At 11:15AM, Ardy Vos will play love songs on the piano and everyone is invited to sing along. No time for shyness, sing aloud and raise a ruckus! No critics allowed in the crowd. Enjoy a delicious meal of chicken Kiev, orzo Florentine, green beans, fresh fruit, a delicious brownie, milk, and coffee at noon. Door prizes randomly drawn following lunch. 2022 Meal Price Adjustment Meals Now $5 It has been over 10 years since the Volunteers of America program has increased the suggested meal donation for the dining program. With increased food and supply costs, the new suggested donation is $5 per person, effective immediately. This remains a great deal for the quality, variety, and taste of the lunch meals. Thank you for your understanding and your contributions. Hope to see you often for lunch. Registration is required. Upcoming Special Events Register Early Minnesota History Center
Thursday, March 31, 9am-4pm, $67 Small groups will enjoy a guided tour through The Greatest Generation exhibit hall. Featured will be people who grew up during The Great Depression, came of age during World War II, and those who participated in the postwar boom. These defining events have resulted in a variety of rich and diverse life stories: tragic to heroic, dramatic to ordinary. You will then have time to explore the museum until the group departs for lunch at the Downtowner Woodfire Grill. Indicate lunch choice at time of registration: chicken pear salad, rueben with lean corned beef, half club sandwich and cup of chicken vegetable soup, or chicken salad sandwich. Lunch includes a non-alcoholic beverage. Register by March 15, no refunds after the deadline.
Liver and Onions Luncheon Tuesday, March 15, noon Back by popular demand, this homemade meal will be prepared by staff and volunteers for a noon luncheon instead of the scheduled VOA meal. Menu for the day: liver and onions (alternate-hamburger patty with mushrooms and onions), mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, bread, and a cookie. Register by March 11 and specify entrée choice at time of registration. Cost is $5 per person.
Wine Tour and Tasting Thursday, April 28
9:45am - Approx. 5pm, $65 Enjoy a beautiful day of scenery and three destinations on this fun, relaxing tour of local vineyards. Start the day at Aamodt’s Apple Orchard and St. Croix Vineyards for an hour stop for coffee, bakery items, wine, or cider tasting, at your own expense. There will be time for a quick stroll on the grounds as well. Next stop and relatively new to the area is Rustic Roots Vineyards for lunch (menu TBD) and optional wine tasting. Round out the day at Winehaven Winery for a final wine tasting and if time allows, a tour of the facility. Price includes: transportation, lunch, and wine tasting at two vineyards. 2022 Tax Assistance At press time it is still unknown if AARP or the State of Minnesota will be providing income tax assistance at Anoka County sites. If you wish to receive an update by an automated phone call, please provide your name, address, and phone number by calling MAYC staff at 763-786-9375. Once MAYC staff receive any new information about the tax assistance program, those registered will receive an automated phone call with the update. Thank you for your patience.

Program Spotlight Beginning/Refresher Pinochle Mondays 10am-12pm Classes Start February 28 Interested in learning a new card game or need a refresher? Try this fun game of runs, aces, marriages, and of course the pinochle-jack of diamonds/queen of spades combination. Lessons are available on Mondays from 10AM12PM beginning February 28 for those who wish to learn or refresh their skills. Lunch is served at noon, so make a day of it and register for lessons and a tasty meal. Intermediate: Mondays at 1pm For those who have mastered skills in this game, register to join others on Mondays at 1PM. Questions can be directed to the group leader, Sue, at 763-754-9153.
Basket Making Class 2nd and 4th Mondays, 10am-12pm Looking to get the creative juices flowing and take pride in a self-made project? This may be the craft program for you. Join instructor Francis Shirley as she teaches the art of basket making. Basket difficulty will progress as students request and master projects. These beautifully crafted baskets can be kept or used as gifts since they are so well constructed. Prices vary based on basket materials and supplies but generally range from $11-$16 each. Plan Your Move Decluttering Session Thursday, February 17, 10am-12pm Whether you are thinking of selling this spring or later in the year, it is never too early to start thinking about one of your biggest investments and what changes it will mean for your future when you decide to sell your home. This senior housing workshop brings in experts to teach you about the selling process and how we help with a seamless transition. You will hear from local REALTOR® | SRES, Renee Miller of Keller Williams Realty Elite, as she touches on understanding home values, timing your move, market statistics in the area including how the pandemic has influenced the market, and how Realtors market your home to get you top dollar. Renee will also go over resources and their use of referral partners to help you downsize and declutter in preparation for your move. Wheel of Fortune Tuesday, February 8, 11am Register for lunch and come early to play, Wheel of Fortune. This is a rousing game word puzzles, the category will be, famous people. Prizes will be available to win. Game rules: contestants will be seated around the dining tables. Turns will rotate as a contestant is asked by the game host to guess either a vowel or a consonant. If the letter is in the puzzle, the player will be asked to guess one more letter in the puzzle or solve the puzzle during their turn. If the first letter guessed is not in the puzzle, play will immediately pass to the next player in a clockwise rotation. A used letter board will be displayed throughout play. Good neighbor rules apply; one prize allowed per person maximum. This is a fun and fairly non-competitive game, so give it a try! This travel company is high quality and utilized by many metro area senior centers. Expect full itineraries with 4-5 star accommodations as you travel to and from your chosen vacation destination. Home Movie Transfers Blaine residents can drop off VHS tapes, 8mm and 16mm film reels, or slides of personal home movies/ photos at MAYC the first week of each month. Eric from North Metro TV will transfer the content to a DVD and return everything to MAYC for pickup about one month later. Be sure to label at least one item with your name and phone number. A form identifying the type and number of items you are dropping off needs to be completed at MAYC before being sent to be transferred to DVD. February is American Heart Month Are You Hearth Healthy? Did you know that heart disease continues to be a leading cause of death among Americans? Common symptoms of a heart attack include discomfort in the chest, uncomfortable pressure, fullness, pain, short of breath, a cold sweat, feeling lightheaded, and nausea. If you experience the above symptoms, dial 911 and get examined by a medical professional. Fortunately, heart disease is often preventable by living a healthy lifestyle.
