Annual Jewelry Sale

Tuesday, October 10, 8:30am-5pm

Come one, come all to the 19th annual Mary Ann Young Center Jewelry Sale Fundraiser. Open to the public, all are invited to browse the amazing selection of items on display. Expect a wide variety of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, watches, sets, and more, all at very reasonable prices. This sale is possible thanks to the donations of dozens of individuals. Donations of jewelry are accepted throughout the year. Our jewelry leader spends an enormous amount of time with recruited volunteers to sort, clean, price, and organize for the sale. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the MAYC. Proceeds go to the MAYC Activity Fund for entertainment and programming needs. Help is needed to set up for the event on Monday, October 9 from 9AM-12PM, and again on the day of the sale on Tuesday, October 10 from 8AM-6PM. If you are interested and able to help with the sale, please contact staff to let them know your availability. Spread the word to family, neighbors, and friends. Hope to see you at the sale!

Long History Serving the Blaine Community

Jerry Schilling has a long history of serving the Blaine community. He drove the MAYC bus for many years, was a food handler for the VOA program, and served at the MAYC and other dining sites in the area. A member of the City of Blaine Senior Advisory Board for many years, he also served on the Senior Housing Planning Committee when plans were being made to build Clover Leaf Courts Apartments in 1999. Jerry and his beloved wife Lou became residents of that complex two years later, and Jerry continues to live there. Another activity he really enjoyed was the Blaine Safety Camp, serving for over 10 years at that event. Jerry was also an election judge for nearly 20 years, delivered food to the food shelf, helped with Blaine World Fest, was a former King of the MAYC, has assisted with evening dinners for the past 30 years, helps staff with participation and volunteer hour statistics, and more. When asked his favorite thing about volunteering he replied, “just to be here, this is my whole outlet now and I look forward to it” said Jerry.

His favorite volunteer activity is cooking. Jerry is also an avid reader making sure to never read the same book twice. His favorite dinner is the Harvest Dinner. Those attending the September Harvest Dinner will enjoy Jerry’s culinary skills as he assists in preparing dessert again for 180 lucky people! Thank you, Jerry, for your 30-year commitment to serving the Blaine community and the MAYC. We hope to enjoy your talents and skills for many more years to come!
