Going Strong at 90 Meet Elaine Cook and Bev Eberhard Elaine Cook and Bev Eberhard were recently honored at the fall musical variety show with birthday treats from the ukulele group, as both performers turned 90 in October.

Address Service Requested

Mary Ann Young Center 9150 Central Avenue NE Blaine MN 55434

Elaine has lived in Blaine for the past 25 years. She first came to the MAYC after her daughter researched online and found there was a ukulele class on the regular schedule. Prior to that time, Elaine had only played her ukulele on her annual cruises to Hawaii, which she has been doing since 2008. She joined the Silver Ukes group three years ago and loves it. Elaine states she has made many friends at the MAYC and discovered the fitness classes as well, which she has participated in 2-3 times per week for the past three years. Her secret to living well to 90: “keep active, you can’t just sit at home”. Bev has lived in Fridley for the past 55 years. She first came to the MAYC just over four years ago when a friend told her about the programs available. She met the band leader of the North Country Jamboree and started singing and playing guitar with them for events. Bev joined the Silver Ukes about six months ago and is really enjoying it. When asked her secrets to living well at 90 she replied, “good diet, exercise, socializing with friends, staying involved in activities, doing things you like to do, gratitude for each day, and staying connected with family…with 10 great grandchildren I have earned high dividends on my initial investment!” Bev is also familiar with the nearby Fogerty Arena. She competed in the World Amateur Figure Skating event 20 years ago, and until the last two years, she was enjoying weekly open adult skate at Fogerty. Both Elaine and Bev continue to enjoy practicing with the Silver Ukes and will perform soon at the MAYC. Congratulations on turning 90 and thank you for sharing your talent and stories. You are each an inspiration!
