Romance at the MAYC Shirley Engberg and Andy Schippel met at the MAYC about two and a half years ago at a pinochle card group. Andy was a seasoned player, and Shirley had joined the beginner group to learn the rules of play. Shirley has been a volunteer at the MAYC since about 2011 and enjoys peeling vegetables for big dinners. She coordinates getting the vegetables for the harvest dinner from a local producer. Andy enjoys playing a variety of card games and socializing while at the MAYC. Last September Andy invited Shirley to attend a Vikings football game at U.S. Bank Stadium. They soon began going out to dinner to get to know each other better. They shared their first kiss in the MAYC parking lot. In December Andy proposed and presented an engagement ring to Shirley during the MAYC holiday party. The couple shared a dance for their engagement while the entertainment was performing. When asked what each liked most about the other, Shirley replied, “how he treats his children; he is a strong family man, a sweet teddy bear”. Andy replied, “I like everything about her”. The happy couple has set the wedding date for this summer at Majestic Oaks! Congratulations and best wishes for a bright future together.
