Ceramics for Beginners

AH Lower Level Instructor: Addy Schober
Learn the basic skills and techniques of ceramics. Participants will end with two finished pieces to take home. Please note: There are three sessions scheduled with the last session designated for pick up. There will be a one week break to allow time for firing. All materials will be provided.
Nature Art Class

Participants will explore and engage with the natural world through a combination of science investigation, crafts, and interactive activities. Dress for the outdoors as part of this session will be held outside, weather dependent.

Ready to take the next step with your garden? Start your own transplants at home! During this workshop we will discuss lighting, timing, stalk pinching, container sizing, and fertilizer considerations to get the best transplants with the resources you have.
Participants will also get a tour of the City of Dubuque greenhouse and plant their own tomato seeds to take home!

This fun and creative class introduces toddlers to the world of yoga through animated poses, books, music, crafts, and games. Little yogis will enhance fine motor skills, develop coordination, and practice self-calming techniques through breathing exercises. Get ready to go on a journey where we will roar like a lion, swim with the dolphins, and soar like a butterfly. Giving your child the gift of this experience is one they will never forget. Each child must be accompanied by an adult caregiver to attend this class.

THE WIZARD OF OZ

It’s The Wizard of Oz you know and love — except that the characters are live on stage and in full color. Oh, and everyone dances the whole time! Based on both the book and the classic 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz brings Frank Baum’s unforgettable story to life — while giving it a ballet twist. Choreographer Erin Alarcón let her imagination run free in this original ballet. with blended roles for the company’s professional dancers with parts for young guest dancers from the Dubuque area, led by the Academy of Ballet.
PERFORMANCES: APRIL 21, 2023 AT 7:00 P.M. AND APRIL 22, 2023 AT 1:00 P.M.
Support for The Wizard of Oz provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support provided by the City of Dubuque Special Projects grant program and the City of Dubuque Department of Leisure Services.
Attention young dancers: Would you like a chance to try out for a role in American Midwest Ballet’s The Wizard of Oz? Up to 55 local young dancers (ages 9 and up) will be cast in this production and appear alongside professional dancers. More information to come. Come hang out after school at the MFC on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Enjoy a snack, meet other teens, play games, access our wifi, do homework, and use our computers! Registration NOT required.

Teen Nights are planned weekly on either Monday or Wednesday nights. Activities include games, movies, field trips, and FREE dinner! Registration is required. Check the MFC Facebook page for details!
LGBTQ+ Support Group
at the Multicultural Family Center
Ongoing, 2nd & 4th Monday of each month Ages: 18 yrs. and older 6 - 7:30 p.m.
This adult support group is for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, +plus. The MFC is a place where anyone can feel free to be themselves without concern about being treated differently because of sexualorientation and/or gender identity/expression.
