Kick off the new year by finding all of the gnomes hidden in the Children’s Department and earning a small prize.

Winter Reading Challenge

Ages: All Ages Registration Required Jan. 2 – 31

Experience all the feels this January with a bingostyle winter reading challenge! Learn about the history of emojis, explore the importance of emotions, and complete fun reading activities on your bingo card. Earn a free book when you complete your first bingo, each additional bingo will give you an entry into the grand prize drawing. Ages 0 - 17 can sign up and get bingo cards at the Children’s Help Desk.

Kid’s Writing Workshop: How to Write the Perfect Letter to Get What You Want

Ages: 7 – 12 yrs. Registration Required Sat, Jan. 7 10 a.m.

Want to convince your parents to let you stay up later, have a slumber party, or get a raise in your allowance? Then attend this workshop with local middle-grade novel author Christa Palm. She’ll help you write a letter that will knock the socks off your parents and maybe get you that yes to what

you want. Healthy, yummy snacks included. Sponsored by The Masterpiece Literary Center of Dubuque.

Wacky World of Indoor Sports

Ages: 4 – 8 yrs. Registration Required Sat, Jan. 7 2 p.m.

Join us in the library auditorium as we take outdoor sports and adapt them for indoor play. Tennis court snowed over? Grab a balloon and a flyswatter to volley safely where it is warm. Basketball, baseball, what other sports will we bring inside?

Canvas Library Bag Paint Party

Follow along for a step-by-step paint party as you decorate a canvas library bag with a cute cartoon hot chocolate using fabric markers!

Quirky Origami Sumo Wrestlers

BEAM is an award-winning interactive floor gaming system that you can play with your whole body. The interactive floor projector provides endless educational, social, and physical games for learning and play. Come have fun at the library with BEAM. Limited number of players at a time. Guided Painting: Valentine Cartoon Painting

Join friends for a fun afternoon of following step-by-step instructions to draw and paint a cartoon heart-shaped pizza on a canvas that you can hang on the wall. Because who doesn’t love pizza all year round?

Creative Kid’s Writing Workshop: Free-Write Your Ideas

Calling all writers! Join local middle-grade novel author Christa Palm in a fun free-writing workshop that helps you get past your writer’s block to create. The Solar System
