“All the Feels” Winter Reading Challenge

Kick off the new year with a bingo winter reading challenge! This year’s theme is all about looking ahead to the future—to the new year, new normal, new resolutions, and all the feelings that come with it. Hygge Nights

Hygge is the Danish tradition of enjoying the coziness and comfort of relaxing with friends. Drop in for a cozy night of hot chocolate, hot tea, and cookies. Feel free to bring craft projects to work on, or a favorite book to read. The library will provide coloring sheets, colored pencils, puzzles, and all the snacks.
Geek Out! Book Club

Geek Out! Book Club is a bi-monthly book club for adults that reads fantasy, science-fiction, dystopian, and other unique titles. The books for the next book club are available to borrow at the Check Out desk about two months before each meeting.

Ukulele Time! Adult Ukulele Lessons

Want to learn how to play the ukulele? Join librarian Ben to work on chords, exercises, and songs all geared toward beginners. If you are brand new to the instrument, consider arriving early for help with tuning your uke. Participants are encouraged to bring their own instrument or check one out from the library. A limited number of ukuleles will be available at each session on a first come, first served basis for those without an instrument.
C-SPL Spice Club
Ages: 18 yrs. & older Registration Required F, Feb. 17 & Apr. 21 Take Home Kits
Spice up your life with the C-SPL Spice Club! Register every other month to receive a sample of the featured spice along with an informative brochure with history, facts, recipes, and more. Spice Club Kits will be available to pick up from the second floor Reference Desk. Supplies will be limited, and registration will open on the first of each month.
DIY Macramé Wall Hanging
Ages: 18 yrs. & older Registration Required M, Jan. 23 6 p.m.
Come relax with hot cocoa and create a beautiful macramé́ wall hanging using simple materials and only two knots: a reverse lark’s head knot and a square knot. Supplies are provided. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Recycling: Beyond the Basics

Attend this free event in the library’s first floor program room, or sign up online to receive a Zoom link and attend virtually. Reduce your household waste and improve your recycling knowledge! DMASWA Education and Communication Coordinator Bev Wagner will answer tricky recycling questions and share advice on how best to deal with items like batteries, compost, and other household waste.
Mason Jar Candle Making

Do you love candles and want to learn how to make your own? Join us to make a unique and personalized mason jar candle in the color and scent of your choosing. Supplies and light refreshments provided. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Music @ your library® is a First Fridays concert series that features local and regional musicians. Concerts are in the third floor auditorium and are free and open to the public.

Have you always wanted to go to the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, but just haven’t made it yet? Now’s your chance to try it for free! Use your library card to pick up two free film vouchers from the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, and then exchange those vouchers at the Festival Box Office inside Hotel Julien Dubuque for two free movie tickets! Free vouchers will be available at the second-floor Reference Desk. The film festival takes place in downtown Dubuque from April 26 - 30. Author Tom Fate “The Long Way Home: Detours and Discoveries” Reading and Signing

Carnegie-Stout Public Library welcomes author Tom Montgomery Fate for a reading and signing of his latest book, “The Long Way Home: Detours and Discoveries.” Tom Fate is a professor emeritus at College DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where he taught creative writing and literature courses for more than 30 years. “The Long Way Home” is a travel memoir that includes memories of his time spent in Maquoketa, Iowa. It is his sixth work of creative nonfiction. His essays have been aired on NPR, PRI, and Chicago Public Radio. Copies of his book will be available for purchase at this event from River Lights Bookstore.
