COUNCIL WRAP UP
FROM MAYOR LEWIS
FIRE STATION 2 IMPROVEMENTS
The City of Forney hired Eikon - an architectural design group - to review the condition of Forney's Fire Station #2. The consultants presented a summary of building conditions that included needed changes to its accessibility, crawl space, mechanical, plumbing and electrical work. The full presentation can be seen here. As a result, the mandatory improvements will be made with funding already allocated in 2022’s Capital Improvement Program (“CIP”). The total cost is projected to range between $1.0 - $1.7 million.
FORNEY POLICE DEPARTMENT GRANT APPROVAL
The City's new Grants Manager, Nicholas Nix, in partnership with Police Chief White applied for and received approval for two new grants - both benefiting the Police Department. The first is a partial cash match for 2 new police officer positions, and the second is $53K for the purchase of 10 or 11 bullet-resistant shields for its patrol vehicles. The City is continually seeking funding from outside sources, and the hard work to apply for and receive funding from both the US Dept. of Justice and the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor, has proven to be advantageous for the City. Good work! Further conversations on future police staffing will be presented to Council once the new Comprehensive Plan is approved - which should occur in February.
RANCH ROAD EXPANSION
City Council approved an interlocal agreement between the City and the Board of Trustees for Forney ISD. This is for the expansion of Ranch Road on the north side of Forney. The segment of Ranch Road from FM 740 to just north of Innovation Boulevard will be widened from two to four lanes (all within the City’s right-ofway). This endeavor will lead to economies of scale for the City and will alleviate traffic and safety issues for residents. The goal is to have it completed before the start of the next school year in August.
HALF PRICE ADOPTIONS AND SPRING SPORTS
The City of Forney’s Animal Shelter is at capacity and needs your help! As an incentive, pet adoptions are half price at $35 that includes spaying, neutering, and rabies shots. You can view adoptable animals here. Also, for participation in the City of Forney’s Spring sports events, you can now register for Sand Volleyball and Adult Softball by clicking on this link.
