STREET MAINTENANCE PROJECTS
Public Works Director Kyle Groves presented a street maintenance list planned for FY23-24. The city recently had a contractor perform a study called the Pavement Condition Index study that reviewed the quality of every city-maintained street and, as a result, has created a priority list of street improvements. Some of the roads include Bois D’ Arc, Pinson, and Gateway. The full list is available here. The presentation can be watched online at forneytx.gov/meetings.
COMMUNITY PARK MULTI-PURPOSE FIELD IMPROVEMENTS
City Council approved a contract for construction services to Home Run Construction, LLC, for the Community Park Multi-Purpose Field Project. This project will provide 6.4 acres of lit practice and game space for all youth and adult leagues. Upon completion, the project will nearly triple the city's lit field space. Construction will begin in late January and be complete in mid-August.
DISPATCHER PAY PLAN
Council approved an increase in the salary structure for Forney Police Department Dispatchers/Telecommunicators. To maintain competitiveness with neighboring police departments, the Forney Police Department sought a restructuring of the existing pay plan. The new pay plan incorporates incentives for current dispatchers/telecommunicators and hiring incentives to facilitate recruitment for these crucial positions. Other agencies in the region are offering similar incentives to boost their recruitment and retention efforts for these roles.
QUIET ZONE UPDATE Council approved a service agreement between the City of Forney and the Union Pacific Railroad. This Service Agreement allocates funds for Union Pacific (UP) to enable the City of Forney to enhance the existing median at the Chestnut UP Crossing, ensuring compliance with safety measures required for a Quiet Zone. These improvements will permit the City to submit a Notice of Establishment to reinstate the Quiet Zone.
