FORNEY MESSENGER OFFICIAL CITY NEWSPAPER

The City Charter requires that the City Council shall declare annually at the beginning of each fiscal year an official newspaper of general circulation in the City. The Forney Messenger meets all necessary criteria and was selected as the City's official newspaper. FORNEY BREWING COMPANY SITE PLAN APPROVED

Council approved a site plan for a brewpub (Forney Brewing Company) to operate at 203 E. Main Street. The applicant intends to remodel the existing site, including constructing a new patio on the northwest elevation. The Forney Brewing Company has intentions of opening in 2024. PROPOSITION E ROAD BOND PROJECTS

City Manager Charles Daniels mentioned in his report that the city’s engineering department has published an RFQ for engineering services for the roadway bond projects. During the November 2022 election, Forney voters approved Proposition E for roads and infrastructure upgrades.These projects encompass the expansion of Lovers Lane, the connection between FM 548 and Monitor Boulevard, an extension for Community Park Road, and a study for a potential grade separation over the train tracks.

CHARTER AMENDMENT ELECTION NOVEMBER 7TH

On August 15, 2023, Forney City Council approved Ordinance No. 23-21, setting a Special Election for November 7, 2023, to amend the city charter. The proposed amendments include adding term limits, changing from 2 to 3-year terms, amending staggered terms, adding special elections for certain vacancies, changing signature limits on a recall petition, and changing the mayoral vote to a tie-breaking vote only.
