COUNCIL WRAP UP DECEMBER 5TH, 2023
MULBERRY PARK BASEBALL FIELD REDESIGN
City council awarded a contract to MasterTurf Products and Services, Inc., for the construction services of the Mulberry Park Baseball Field Redesign project. This is part of the routine maintenance and repair program for city-owned baseball fields at Mulberry Park. Mulberry Park continues to hold water in both infields and outfields. This work will help alleviate some water issues by fixing infield areas and leveling the outfields. This will be the project's first phase, fixing two fields, and the second phase will be to fix additional fields at a later stage. The total contract rate is not to exceed $400,000.
SOUTH BOIS D’ ARC SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS
City Council approved a professional services agreement with Pierce-Murray Land Solutions, LLC to provide consulting and design services for Sidewalk Improvements along South Bois d’ Arc (FM 740). The scope of services includes a detailed design for a new sidewalk parallel to S. Bois d’ Arc Street on the east side from just south of Pecan Lane to the Warren Middle School Campus. The contract rate is not to exceed $21,000.
FM 548 EXPANSION PROJECT
City Council approved a Utility Agreement with TxDOT for relocating water utilities along FM 548. TxDOT is expanding FM 548 between HWY 80 Frontage and FM 205. Phase 1 of this project is from HWY 80 to Windmill Farms Blvd. This first phase is widening FM 548 to a six-lane urban road with additional features like retaining walls, noise barriers, drainage systems, traffic signals, and street lighting. The current utility infrastructure conflicts with Forney's transmission lines, prompting the relocation.
FM 741 SPEED LIMIT CHANGE
City council approved an ordinance altering the speed limit on a section of FM 741. The City of Forney requested the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) conduct an engineering and traffic investigation of a section of FM 741 approximately between FM 548 and Windy Lane. This study aimed to see if reducing the existing 55 mph speed limit was feasible. Based on the study's results, a new 45 mph speed limit is recommended. The new speed limit will go into effect within the next weeks. The next Forney City Council Meeting will be on January 2nd. Watch live at forneytx.gov
