FIRED UP FOR READING

The Fired Up for Reading initiative has been a massive hit! This year, Forney ISD students collectively read over an incredible 3 million minutes! Thanks to the efforts of Forney ISD, Forney Education Foundation, Forney Fire Department, Walmart, Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, we've motivated students to read with prizes including lunch with a firefighter, firetruck rides, gift cards, and bicycles. A huge thanks to Walmart for generously providing bicycles as grand prizes. Congratulations to our grand prize winners: Daniel, Christian, Devin, Benz, Sophie, Selena, Christina, Seth, Hudson, and Daniel!

PUBLIC SAFETY GRANTS APPROVED

The City Council has approved resolutions accepting funding from The Office of the Governor for two vital public safety initiatives by the Forney Police Department. The first initiative involves providing officers with Body-Worn Cameras, for which the grant totals over $14,205.00, with a 25% match by the City, resulting in a Total Project Budget of $18,940.00. The second initiative focuses on acquiring Rifle-Resistant Body Armor, with a grant of $5,841.44 and no matching amount required. We express gratitude for the outstanding efforts of Nicholas Nix, the city's Grants Coordinator, in securing essential funding for our community.
