CRIME CONTROL PREVENTION DISTRICT
The Forney City Council has approved an ordinance proposing the establishment of a Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD), with the purpose of promoting and developing crime reduction programs, strategies, and providing necessary staffing and equipment that will result in crime control and prevention and increase the quality of life in the City of Forney. The City Council, which serves as the initial temporary board of directors of the Crime Control and Prevention, is proposing an initiative for the November 5th, 2024 election that would reallocate a portion of the sales tax generated for the Forney Economic Development Corporation to support the CCPD’s crime prevention efforts. The funds from a 0.25% sales tax allocation will be used to invest in policing personnel, technology, equipment, and programs. The establishment of a Crime Control and Prevention District would not result in a tax rate increase but involves a reallocation of existing sales tax revenues, which requires voter approval.
NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
May 19-24 is National Public Works Week. Mayor Pro Tem Sarah Salgado and Forney City Council presented a proclamation to a few members of our Public Works Department in recognition of this week. This year's theme, "Advancing Quality of Life for All," highlights the incredible work our public works department does every day. They manage our streets, sewer, water, grounds, facilities, and fleet, and are the first to respond in emergencies. Thank you for all that you do!
