BUDGET PRESENTATION
Finance Director Deborah Woodham presented the proposed FY 2023-2024 budget. The proposed budget includes a breakdown of how the city receives money and how it plans to utilize it during the upcoming fiscal year, which begins on October 1st, 2023. The proposed budget can be viewed here. On September 5th, the city council will hold a public hearing and receive public comments on the proposed budget.
NOVEMBER 7TH SPECIAL ELECTION
City council approved an ordinance that proposes amendments to the City Charter. The city charter is the fundamental governing document for the city and outlines certain authorities and restrictions the city has over municipal affairs. Some proposed changes include staggered, 3-year terms for council members and term limits of 3 consecutive terms. More information is available in the ordinance calling for a special election. Residents will have the opportunity to vote on these amendments in a Special Election on November 7th, 2023.
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTMENTS
The city council made appointments to the Animal Adoption Center/Shelter Advisory Committee; Board of Adjustment; Building Standards Commission Board; Economic Development Corporation; Historic Overlay District Architectural Review Board; Park and Recreation Board; and the Planning and Zoning Commission. The city received 38 boards and commission applications! We appreciate everyone who applied to serve our city and made the time to attend the meeting.
BACK TO SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE
The city is holding a back-to-school food drive to support the Food Pantry in providing essential resources to those in need within the community. The food drive will run from August 15th to September 15th, 2023. The pantry welcomes donations of non-perishable food items and specifically requests the following items to help meet the immediate needs of the community: individual cereals, chicken noodle soup cans, ravioli or pasta, ramen noodles, mac & cheese, vienna sausages, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, pop tarts, Jello cups, & pudding cups. Drop-off locations include City Hall, Community Development, Forney EDC, Fire Station #1, and the Forney Police Department. Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
