APPROVED BUDGET AND TAX RATE
Forney City Council approved the FY 2024 budget, which includes a tax rate of $0.366. Increased property values and early debt redemption have allowed a decrease in the property tax rate of just over $0.21 over the last five years. The FY 2024 budget includes the addition of eight full-time positions for our police department as well as eight additions to its fleet. The full budget can be read at forneytx.gov/budget
NO PARKING ORDINANCE APPROVED
City staff has received complaints from residents regarding Semi-Truck/Trailers parking on South Gateway Blvd. On Tuesday, City Council approved an ordinance restricting parking in the ancillary (inside) lanes of South Gateway Boulevard between Akron Way and County Road 212. No parking signage will be placed in this area.
ALCOHOL VARIANCE APPROVED
The City Council approved special permission for alcohol sales and consumption at 203 E. Main Street in Downtown Forney. This variance was requested due to the property’s proximity to the Forney ISD Academic Center at 309 S. Bois D’Arc. This property was leased to Forney Brewing Company by the Forney EDC, which will be a brewpub serving alcohol on-site. The next step in the process will be to finalize the design for the brewery. We anticipate re-construction of the building to begin in 2024.
WRECKER/TOWING SERVICE AGREEMENT
The City Council approved a wrecker/towing service agreement with Chub’s Towing and Recovery, Inc. Under this agreement, Chub’s will be responsible for incident management services for the Forney police and fire departments. The initial contract duration is one year, and there is an option to extend it for an additional two years once it expires.
