Outdoor Adventure & Nature Education

e-Walks (Ages 18+)

This time, the "e" stands for ecology! Each Tuesday morning this winter, PEC staff will lead a 75-minute walk on the trails to observe the nature of winter and wildlife. We will walk from fall into winter and witness the natural world change before us. During each walk, a different ecological concept will be introduced to the participants and the staff naturalist will relate that concept to the observations the group has made. Topics include photoperiod, dormancy, limiting factors, hibernation, subnivean survival and much more. Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own binoculars and magnifying lens; PEC can provide these tools for those who don't have them. Pre-registration is required; deadline to register is one day prior to each walk. Piedmont Environmental Center Tuesdays, October 4 - December 27, 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. Free Fall Foliage Hike (Ages 18+)

As you hike with a PEC naturalist, you will discover the scenic beauty that autumn brings to the Piedmont. On our walk in the woods and along the lakeshore, you will learn about the natural history of common North Carolina native trees, how to identify them and the process behind the foliage color change. Piedmont Environmental Center Saturday, November 5, 9 a.m. - noon Free

"Everyone was very helpful, patient and kind. They made this event very enjoyable. I look forward to the next one." – Participant in Teach a Kid to Fish
