Aquatics/Swimming

IMPORTANT RULES FOR YOUR POOL VISIT

• Parents/guardians are responsible for actively supervising children when using Lakewood aquatic facilities

• Anyone under 7 years of age must be accompanied by an adult in the pool .

• Anyone 7-10 years of age must be accompanied by a swimmer 12 years of age or older or an adult present in the pool area

• No water wings or swimming suits with flotation devices built in are allowed in Lakewood aquatic facilities Only Coast Guard-approved life jackets or life floats may be worn by swimmers Life jackets are available at all facilities .

• Swim diapers are required for all non-toilet-trained swimmers Appropriate diapers are available for purchase at each facility .

• Proper swimming attire is encouraged at all facilities .

• All indoor and outdoor pools are nonsmoking facilities

• Additional rules are posted at each facility .

• The lifeguards have the authority to enforce these and any additional rules based on participant safety

• Glass containers are not allowed near any pool areas

• No alcohol allowed, as stated in Community Resources Department rules, found at Lakewood org/CRRules

SPECIALTY CLASSES

MASTERS SWIM TEAM

Join the Lakewood Dawgs Masters team where beginning swimmers and seasoned athletes master their goals! Coaches will lead participants through workouts designed for all abilities and provide ongoing stroke feedback Competitive swimming experience is not required, but participants should have an understanding of basic strokes. Set your alarm, grab your goggles and hit the pool!

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding class combines classroom and online learning . Successful candidates will receive an American Red Cross certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid and learn the duties and responsibilities of becoming a Professional Lifeguard . Lifeguard certification requirements: candidates must be 15 years of age by the end of the class; pass prerequisite skills before the first day of class; attend all sessions; complete online modules prior to the start of class .

Ai Chi is a contemplative, breath-focused, stretch and strengthening form of exercise that quiets the mind and recharges the spirit and body Led in soothing warm water, Ai Chi is just the exercise you need to let go in order to balance your natural healing systems .

ARTHRITIS MOVEMENT

Challenge Level 1-2

Classes are designed for individuals with arthritis but are open to anyone Led in shallow, warm water pools, classes focus on improving range of motion for all joints, developing balance and coordination and maintaining independence for daily living .

DEEP WATER

Challenge Level 3-5

These no-impact classes are designed for individuals looking for a new twist on the energizing workouts found in the shallow water . Led in cooler water pools, each class uses the resistance of the water, equipment and intervals to provide a total body workout Participants should be comfortable in 10-12 feet of water

Shallow water classes are moderate-impact classes designed for individuals looking for an energizing workout of higher intensity Led in both warm and cooler water pools, each class uses the resistance of the water along with resistance equipment and structured intervals to provide a total body workout

Zumba® in the water! An intermediate fitness level is recommended for this energetic dance-based aqua class .

GLIDE FIT

Take your total body workout to the next level on GlideFit boards during drop-in classes at Morse Park pool! Using aquatic-based stability training (ABST), this class incorporates yoga, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), core strength and cool-down exercise to maximize the benefits of floating fitness

INTUITIVE EATING WORKSHOP

Intuitive Eating focuses on ten principles to help you ditch dieting and make peace with food Key concepts include waking up with hunger and fullness cues, challenging the food police, respecting your body, gentle nutrition, and most importantly, satisfaction . This is a small group workshop that will utilize the Intuitive Eating Workbook to help each person overcome nutritional habits The 11-week session includes a workbook and is facilitated by a Registered Dietician.

LET’S EAT! COOKING CLUB

These hands-on 4-week programs will teach you the fundamentals of using your kitchen to its fullest potential and working on meal prepping your favorite meals with a nutritious spin and recipe sharing . Most adult classes progress throughout the year, with the exception of Ballroom and Dance Fitness classes, which are not progressive.

Drop-in: All classes are registration classes with a dropin option for those who can only participate when their schedule permits Drop-in fee is $12 for a one-hour class, $15 for a 1 . 5-hour class . For classes in which a partner is required, price is per person .

Private Dance Instruction: Private dance instruction is available by appointment; book a single, three or fivelesson package in the dance of your choice . Wedding dance instruction is also offered using the couple’s chosen music . CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

TOTS IN ACTION (AGES WALKING – 4 YRS.)

Enjoy playing on gymnastics equipment and engaging in various gymnastics activities . This class requires preregistration for each day/time up to 14 days in advance. There is a maximum of 10 participants Trained staff will supervise and assist skills, but do not provide structured activities .

KANGAROOS (AGES 18 MOS. – 3 YRS. MUST BE WALKING)

This class gives children their first exposure to our structured gymnastics classes . Children will use assorted mats, low and high beams, rings, Pre-School bars, tumble trampoline, and more The class ends with 10 minutes of free play/gym exploration and requires one parent/caregiver to participate with the child.

TINY TUMBLERS (AGES 2½ – 4 YRS.)

This class introduces toddlers to the concepts of following directions and being in a class all on their own! Children enjoy jumping, rolling and learning pre-school level gymnastics skills

LITTLE LEAPERS (AGES 4 – 5 YRS.)

Children enjoy weekly themed activities, navigating gymnastics obstacle courses and continuing basic skill progressions Children begin to develop strength and agility while learning the basics of gymnastics in a fun environment

KARTWHEEL KIDS (AGES 5 – 7 YRS.)

This is a beginning gymnastics class and an introduction to basic tumbling and gymnastics skills Students will be introduced to a progression of rolls, handstands and cartwheels along with basic beam, bar and vault skills using gymnastics equipment No prior gymnastics experience necessary for this class.

BRONZE FLIPS 1 (AGES 7 – 12 YRS.)

This is a beginning gymnastics class and an introduction to basic tumbling and gymnastics skills Students will be introduced to a progression of rolls, handstands and cartwheels along with basic beam, bar and vault skills using gymnastics equipment No prior gymnastics experience necessary for this class. This level may require repeat sessions to accomplish development for the next level.

BRONZE FLIPS 2 (AGES 7 – 12 YRS.)

This is our level 1 gymnastics class . In addition to perfecting basic skills, gymnast will work on increasing flexibility and strength Additional skills will include round offs, back extension rolls, backbends, bridge kickovers, sole circle dismounts, and inversions . This level may require repeat sessions to accomplish development for the next level.

SILVER FLIPS/PRE-TEAM (AGES 7 – 12 YRS.)

This is our level 2 gymnastics class for students working on intermediate level skills . In addition to perfecting level 1 skills, gymnasts will work on round off connections, back walk overs, front hip circles, handstand pirouettes, and handstand/cartwheels on beam Participants will have the option to compete in the 2023 CARA Gymnastics season Coach approval is required for registration.

CARA GOLD STARS TEAM (AGES 7 – 18 YRS.)

This team level is Compulsory 3 & 4 Must have passed Silver Flips/Pre-Team or have Team Coach approval. Leotard and athletic shoes required at each practice. Gymnasts will continue to develop skill progressions and learn CARA gymnastics routines for the 2023 CARA Gymnastics Competition Season

CARA GOLD STARS TEAM–OPTIONALS (AGES 7 – 18 YRS.)

This class is for CARA Team Optionals level ONLY . Must have Team Coach approval to register. Leotard required. Gymnasts will continue to develop skill progressions and learn CARA gymnastics routines for the 2023 CARA Gymnastics Season This class includes two additional two-hour practices per month, typically on Fridays . Coach will give gymnasts the additional practice schedule on the first day of class

BOYS GYMNASTICS

This coed recreational program provides the opportunity for individuals with disabilities to learn and develop fundamental skills in a safe, fun and noncompetitive environment All games and practices will be held at Lakewood Park. All athletes and partners are required to attend at least one practice (9:30-11:00 a.m. on 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/26). Friday Games starting on 6/2. All abilities welcome!
