Spring is right around the corner! And, what better time of year to be an O’Fallon resident than springtime? There are plenty of fun events planned throughout the season for your family and friends to enjoy as the weather gets warmer!

Spring is just the beginning of the fun in O’Fallon. Last year, we converted O’Day Park into Luau in the Park. Now, this year on May 3, O’Day Park will host the first Fiesta in the Park! And, for the third year, Civic Park will be home to the highly anticipated Whiskers and Wags event on May 19. You won't want to miss this dog-friendly, pet expo and adoption event! Once again, the O’Fallon Public Works Fair will take over Ozzie Smith Sports Complex on May 22. Bring the kids out as they get a chance to explore all of the wonderful trucks and tractors they see around town that our crews use to keep O’Fallon so beautifully maintained.

Spring will quickly turn to summer, where we have even more fun planned! Events such as the Jammin’ Concert Series take over Civic Park and of course, the always-anticipated Heritage and Freedom Fest. Be sure to join us as we celebrate our Independence Day with musical headliners Bret Michaels and Mitchell Tenpenny.

Every year, our wonderful O’Fallon Theatre Works puts on performances that we all can enjoy. Their first show of the season is a musical parody based on a classic video game. Trail to Oregon is an interactive experience, where the audience decides the names and fates of the characters. No two performances will be the same, and we encourage you to get your tickets early for this unique show!

O’Fallon volunteers fill an important role in our city’s overall success. Through service, citizens are empowered to create meaningful change and to have a positive impact on others. Bring the kids to see the big trucks and the vehicles used to provide City services, such as street sweepers, snow plows, a paint striper, a recycling truck, and more. The event is free, and demonstrations include working models of the City’s Water Treatment Plant and the enviroscape water pollution model. Enjoy free rides on the City train, safety awareness games for kids, giveaways, booths, and the chance to talk to City staff. A free hot dog lunch with chips and water will be available.

Join Volunteer O’Fallon as we upcycle t-shirts into rope toys, helping to reduce stress, support oral health, and provide mental stimulation to shelter animals. Water and Sewer

Protect your home and sewer system from "FOG"

Take action to protect your home and sewer by properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) used in cooking instead of disposing them down the drain. FOG can look harmless when it begins as a liquid, however, when it cools, FOG becomes thick and sticky, adhering to the pipes in sewer systems and potentially causing clogs, basement backups, and sewer overflows. FOG can also cause issues in the pipes of your home, producing clogs or backups.

Water Service Line & Sewer Lateral Insurance

The City of O’Fallon offers a Water Service Line Insurance Program that provides assistance for the repair of the water service line that connects each residence to the public water mains. The program covers all residents of the City of O’Fallon and is administered by O’Fallon Water and Sewer. The program is funded by residents through a $12.00 annual fee that is paid when you pay your real estate tax. O’Fallon’s Water Service Line Insurance Program was approved by voters during the April 6, 2021 municipal election.

We also offer a Sewer Lateral Insurance Program that provides assistance for the repair of the sewer laterals that connect each residence to public sewers. The program covers all residents of the City of O’Fallon and is administered by O’Fallon Water and Sewer. The program is funded by residents through a $30.00 annual fee that is paid when you pay your property taxes.

Eligible Repairs Include:

• Repairs to private water service lines from the exterior of the building, one (1) foot from the foundation wall to the meter pit or curb box.

• Replace street, sidewalk, or driveway pavement impacted by the repairs.

• Yard repair.

• Permits and administrative cost.

Stormwater Management

Storm drain maintenance on private property

You can help prevent pollution and clogging of the storm sewer system and protect your property. Keeping storm sewers free of pollution and clogs from leaves, sticks, and more ensures the system can function as designed and helps minimize water buildup that may damage houses or yards.

Storm drains are designed to capture stormwater runoff and are either located at the curb of the street or in backyards. The stormwater runoff is not treated or filtered, so whatever enters the system, exits the system somewhere else downstream into local streams or retention/detention basins.

In order for the storm drains to work properly, they need to be kept clear of debris and other obstacles that may obstruct their openings. If the openings become clogged, this could increase the risk of localized flooding in yards, causing property damage.

How can you help?

• You can help by keeping these openings clear. Clearing such debris from in front of storm sewers will help them function as intended. Do not plant landscape around the openings; stay at least three feet away from openings.

• Do not deposit grass clippings, leaves, or branches into storm sewers, into the creek, or on creek banks. Large accumulations can cause pipes to become clogged and back up and flood properties or streets.

• Remove trees and bushes directly next to storm sewers when they are just starting to grow before they get large enough to cause potential damage to the storm sewer structures or block flow due to their size.

Help a local charity when you pay O’Fallon utility bills

Have a question or concern for City of O’Fallon staff? If so, visit the Citizens First Center at www.ofallon.mo.us

Residents can easily assist local charities by donating $1, $3, or $5 per billing cycle when they pay their City water, sewer and trash collection bills. Each year, the O’Fallon City Council designates a charity to receive the funds, and for 2024 your voluntary donation can help Meals on Wheels. The nonprofit depends on voluntary donations for the hot, nutritious food delivered to homebound seniors who can’t easily make a meal.

Public Assistance

O’Fallon’s Grants and Assistance programs can help eligible residents with home maintenance

O’Fallon’s Grants and Assistance Division can help eligible residents with home maintenance repairs, like HVAC replacement and roof replacement. For low-income residents and others who qualify for help, the City of O’Fallon offers a variety of programs such as zero-interest loans and grants for home maintenance. All programs are subject to funding availability.

Mobile Home Repair Program

O'Fallon's Mobile Home Repair Program assists low-tomoderate level income O'Fallon residents with mobile home repairs that they would not otherwise be able to afford. This program offers up to $3,000 in the form of a one-time grant for eligible repairs.

Are you looking for a new place to live? The Housing Resource Fair will cover topics like buying, selling, renting, preapproval, credit repair, and down payment assistance.

O'Fallon Transportation Program

O’Fallon’s Transportation Program provides transportation for necessary medical, shopping, and essential services and is available to O’Fallon residents who meet one of the following criteria:

• At least 62 years of age; or

• Be deemed disabled per HUD Section 504 regulations; or

• Qualify as low income or moderate income.

Veterans Service Officer Available

Missouri AMVETS Representative Veterans Service Officer, William "Sif" Sifford will be available by appointment only, in the O'Fallon Veterans Office at City Hall. The Veterans Service Officer is a liaison for veterans and their families in obtaining benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans Service Officers assist veterans in filing service-connected disability claims with the VA. Here are a few things the Veterans Service Officer can assist with:

• Act as your official representative to the VA.

• Assist in ensuring all evidence necessary for a successful claim is submitted in a timely manner.

• VA Disability Compensation

The Veterans Service Officer will help distinguish which injuries are eligible for compensation, and file paperwork.

• Veteran's Pension

The Veterans Service Officer can assist you in filing for a Veteran's pension. They can also help you understand the evidence necessary and the application.

• Survivor's Benefits

Surviving spouses may be eligible for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC). The Veterans Service Officer can help you understand the requirements and submit the application.

• Burial Benefits

The VA will pay benefits toward burial expenses; however, the amounts may vary. The Veterans Service Officer can find that information for the survivor. Additionally, they can help with filing for a U.S. Flag, Presidential Memorial Certificate, standard government headstone or marker, or a Government Medallion.

• Understand VA Correspondence.

• Provide Guidance in other VA benefits.

• Current VA Regulations.

Tips for your DD-214

Your DD-214, Discharge Papers and Separation Documents, is the most important military document you will ever receive. This form serves as your proof of military service and is often used to verify military service for benefits such as the GI Bill, VA Loans, VA medical benefits, retirement benefits, burial benefits, employment, and membership in veteran’s organizations.

The O’Fallon Veterans Assistance Office is able to assist veterans and family with procuring a replacement DD-214.

Team O'Fallon took The Plunge!

The Polar Plunge is an annual challenge in which costumewearing teams plunge into the frigid February waters of Lake Saint Louis for this challenge! This group of individuals were willing to brave the cold for a good cause.

Once again, Team O'Fallon stood tall, ready to make a splash for charity. The team was comprised of enthusiastic members from across many departments at the City of O'Fallon. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri’s year-round program of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

O’Fallon Safety Town

O’Fallon Safety Town is a nationally-accredited program to teach children ages 4½ through 6½ how to play safe and stay safe. The course is presented in a kid-sized, simulated city layout and classroom and includes an off-campus field trip. Under the guidance of police officers, a certified teacher, paramedics, firefighters, railroad police and trained volunteer staff, children can experience “real life” situations and they will be taught to evaluate “safe from unsafe” and how to react safely. O’Fallon’s Safety Town course is devoted exclusively to teaching safety.

Registration for the program opens Monday, April 1 at 8 a.m., when parents or legal guardians can register online at www. ofallon.mo.us/safety-town

Space is limited, so early enrollment is encouraged. The cost for the two-week session is $60 per child; each additional child from the same family is $40. Fees must be paid in full when children are enrolled.

Weekly yard waste disposal resumes March 12

With lawns already greening up, it’s time to get mowing! Our weekly yard waste service resumes the week of March 12. As a reminder, your yard waste pickup day is the same as your recycling day.

If you’re not yet enrolled in yard waste collection, you can sign up at any time. The cost is $5.62 per month ($11.25 per bi-monthly trash bill). A one-year commitment is required. To sign up or for more information contact staff at 636-272-0477 or ofallonrecycles@ofallon.mo.us.

Electronics & Appliance Recycling Events

Residents and non-residents can bring outdated or broken electronics and appliances to O’Fallon’s Electronics & Appliance Recycling Events from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2 and June 22. The drop-off events will be held in the parking lot at the southwest corner of T.R. Hughes Blvd. and Tom Ginnever Ave., adjacent to CarShield Field.

Bulk Waste Drop-off Events

Saturday, April 13 and June 8

7 a.m. – 3 p.m., Environmental Services Transfer Station

Drop off your bulk-waste from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 and June 8. During these events, O’Fallon trash customers can drop off certain items that are too large to fit in trash containers, such as carpeting or furniture, at the City’s Waste Transfer Station. To utilize this service, O’Fallon residents must be current customers of the City’s trash service with their account in good standing. Residents will be required to display a current photo ID showing their O’Fallon address. There is no charge for trash customers. The transfer station is located at 1572 Progress West Ln. Free Shred-It Day for O’Fallon residents

Saturday, May 18

8 a.m. – noon, Environmental Services building

O’Fallon’s Environmental Services Division offers a “Shred-It Day” where anyone can bring in boxes of paper to be shredded in a secure environment. The event will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Environmental Services building at 1550 Progress West Ln.

To participate, place the documents in cardboard bankers’ boxes, or cardboard boxes of a similar size, and drive up to the facility and drop them off. Please make sure the boxes are not too heavy to lift or overfilled. The service is free for residents for up to five bankers-sized boxes. Additional boxes will be accepted for a cost of $5 per box. Additionally, non-residents can drop off their paper for shredding for a cost of $5 per box.

To utilize this service, O’Fallon residents must be current customers of the City’s trash service with their account in good standing. Residents will be required to display a current photo ID showing their O’Fallon address.

Please do not bring computer discs or hanging file rods. If you can tear it, then you can shred it with this complimentary service. It is okay for documents to have staples or paper clips.

2024 Public Works Fair is on Wednesday, May 22 at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
