AQUATICS AQUATIC PROGRAMS Aqua Yoga Ages: 19 & up
Aqua yoga adapts traditional hatha poses to the water environment. The gentle nature of this exercise makes it ideal for all fitness levels. An opportunity to increase water comfort and practice the basic building blocks for swimming such as floats, glides, breath control, and basic kicking drills. AQUATIC PROGRAMS Deep Fit Ages: 19 & up
Feel the freedom in this zero impact classes that are scheduled as a series. Buoyancy belts are provided to help maintain surface support in deep water. Bring your own kayak to the pool on selected days to practice your skills in a safe and warm environment. 4 kayaks will be permitted each session. Please register at least 48 hours in advance to avoid cancellation. Fee covers 1 kayak and 1 paddler for ones day; regular admission rates apply to additional paddlers sharing a kayak. This is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace. Through a blended learning of online tutorials plus hands-on training and practice, this 8-hour basic first aid course will give you the confidence to respond to respiration and circulation emergencies, including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke and bleeding. Must complete online portion prior to classroom session. Comprehensive 16-hour course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR-C) skills related to adult, child and infant emergencies. Become a certified Red Cross swim instructor for employment in aquatic environments. Bronze Medallion
Minimum age 13 or hold Bronze Star Certification
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross. Monday September 27 - December 6 from 4:00 - 6:00pm $225 Location: Poolside Room & Aquatic Centre
National Lifeguard Pool Option & AMOA Prerequisite: Bronze Cross, minimum 15 years of age, Standard First Aid from recognized agency (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol, Heart and Stroke Foundation) plus Airway Management & Oxygen Administration
The National Lifeguard (NL) Pool certification develops the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. A new prerequisite is Airway Management & Oxygen Administration (AMOA), however, we will deliver this course in tandem with the NL. 100% attendance is required. Rec Skate
Taught by the Mother/Daughter team Suzi Wiebe and Aubrey Palme, Rec Skate is a 4-class set of skate beginner lessons that is intended to be a feeder program to both minor Hockey and the Can Skate Program. This introductory level of skating will help skaters learn to fall safely and get up unassisted, skate across the ice by themselves without falling and work on basic balance and gliding skills. Hi, I’m Brittany Service! I’m a born & raised Powell Riverite, and the local proprietor/vocal coach at Service Vocal Training! I’ve been immersed in the Arts my whole life: from singing to speech arts, acting to dancing, — I’ve done it all! I’m thrilled to be a new Instructor at the Complex, offering introductory singing and rhythm classes to Powell River’s youth, and I look forward to bringing many more classes for multiple age groups in the future!

The Babysitter's Training Course is aimed at young people turning 12 years of age within the calendar year or older who want to demonstrate their capabilities by completing the course under responsible direction. Welcome to circus school! This is a fun class that is both mentally and physically challenging. Classes are designed to build full body strength and body awareness through ground and aerial technique, stretching, and musicality. Participants will learn to navigate by learning the foundational movement needed for the progression of more advance movement on the rope, silks, hoop and trapeze. Bianca Hoppe has a professional background in the medical field and is a certified BCRPA Group Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, Third Age, Weight Training, Spin and Pilates instructor. She is also a certified Personal Trainer on land and in water. Bianca is fascinated by the human body and all its capabilities and the science that always discovers new and improved workouts to either get people in better shape, helps them to recover from injuries or improve their everyday mobility. Gail Westgate has studied fitness theory, weight training and personal training for over a decade. Choose to Move is FREE, flexible and provides you with motivation and support to become more active. In Choose to Move, you receive both individual and group support. You will work with a trained activity coach to develop and stick to a physical activity plan made just for you. You choose activities that you know you will enjoy and are able to do!
