Hearts in Motion Walking Group Ages: 19 & up

The Hearts in Motion Walking program is designed to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity by walking. Walking is a great way to boost health and energy and it's easily incorporated into any lifestyle. You can reduce risk factors such as stress, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and body fat by incorporating over thirty minutes of physical activity most days of the week. The group is capped at 16 people and physical distancing is required. Walks will occur in various locations around the community. The first day the group will meet outside the lower foyer entrance of the Recreation Complex and a schedule will be distributed. Skateboarding 101 Ages: 6 & up

Learn the fundamentals of skateboarding with Tim Ladner from Townskate in a fun and safe environment. Students will learn everything from basic board maintenance, park etiquette all the way to proper pushing techniques and basic maneuvers. Helmets are required and pads recommended. POWELL RIVER CO-ED ADULT SLO PITCH LEAGUE From May - August, the Powell River Co-Ed Adult Recreational Slo-Pitch league is in full swing. All abilities and skill sets are welcome in this well organized and fun league. Teams play a number of games per year and we're always welcoming new teams. REGISTERED COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAMS Home Alone Ages: 9 & up

The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. This course will help children understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. Babysitter's Training Ages: 11 & up

The Babysitter's Training Course is aimed at young people turning 12 years of age within the calendar year or older who want to demonstrate their capabilities by completing the course under responsible direction. The Babysitter's Training Course is loaded with special features such as: Child Development and Behavioral Problems, Safety, Handling Emergencies, Games and Play Activities, Children with Special Needs, and more. Introduce your little ones to the world of dance. Classes are designed to encourage little dancers to join in and have fun while dancing with mom or dad. Science is a great way to spark the imagination! Aerial Circus Teens & Performance Troupe

Welcome to circus school! This is a fun class that is both mentally and physically challenging. Classes are designed to build full-body strength and body awareness through ground and aerial technique, stretching and musicality. Participants will learn to navigate the aerial equipment by learning the foundational movement needed for the progression of more advanced movement on the silks. Expect to be upside down frequently!

Aerial muscles are developed on the equipment by learning climbs, knots and a variety of poses in the air. Intermediate students will learn more advanced techniques and transitions in the air that enables them to dance with strength and grace. Senior students will work together to develop ground and aerial routines for the beginner aerialists.

The weather is warming up and what better way to get out and enjoy it than by joining John on Saturday, April 17th for a fun and informative, hands on class. Meet at the complex for a discussion and video then head out to the beach for picking, digging, and eating! Participants must have current tidal license. Get Moving with Joan Ages: 16 & up

Get on the move with Joan Kirkrod, an experienced teacher who will make sure that everyone has a grasp of each move. She guarantees you will spend lots of time laughing and singing along to the songs while exercising both your mind and body. Spring Aquatics SPRING SWIM LESSONS

Due to the current restrictions, we are offering lessons Level 3 and under as parented sessions. You may also notice lessons that have been previously offered twice a week are now offered once a week. This is a temporary schedule change that has been made in order to offer more swim lessons to accommodate more swimmers the opportunity to learn and improve their skills.

Aqua Yoga Ages: 15 & up

Aqua yoga adapts traditional hatha poses to the water environment. The gentle nature of this exercise makes it ideal for all ages and fitness levels. AQUATIC LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS Bronze Medal Programs The ALL NEW bronze medal program is being launched by the lifesaving society, with Bronze Cross holders learning more lifeguarding skills, and considered a “lifeguard assistant.” We are learning how to teach the new program and will offer courses as soon as possible, hopefully Summer 2021. Stay tuned!

National Lifeguard Recertification

This is a pool option, NL recertification for those who have previously held the award. Limited to 6 participants. The completion of Airway Management & Oxygen Administration is a NEW pre-requisite to attend all NL recerts in BC. We will arrange a blended learning AMOA course that is part online, part in class. REGISTRATION DEADLINE April 23, 2021

Water Safety Instructor - Part 4 Course planned for Summer 2021, date TBD. This is the final component required to become a certified instructor. You can register for step 4 if you have completed your online workbook and required teaching experience. All candidates should have their workbooks completed by now so we can focus on getting you in for teaching experience in May, June or July.

AQUATICS GENERAL INFORMATION

How do I register? You may register online, in person, or call reception. If you would like to book a special rate, please call reception. COVID-19 Safety Protocols: Once your session is booked, please arrive swim ready (suit on under clothes) and limit the number of personal items brought to the facility. You will now enter the pool area from lobby view doors, check in with staff, and remove your shoes. You can store personal items on deck as lockers will be extremely limited. A cleansing shower is mandatory prior to swimming. At the end of your swim, use change rooms briefly and exit through hallway to reception & front entrance. Lap Lanes: double-wide lanes are available, up to 4 persons in each, swimming in a large circle (stay to the right). Time limit is 1 hour including a hot tub visit or relaxing in the leisure pool. (Express lanes are 45 minutes). Leisure Swim: small pools relaxation or play, no access to main pool unless lane users are finished or un-booked. Capacity and time limit will vary depending on other activities occurring at the same time. Family Swim: limited to 6 full families (2 adults & up to 4 dependents). Lap lane by request, if space permits. Time limit is 90 minutes. All Welcome Swim: limited to 36 individuals. No lanes available. Time limit is 90 minutes. Aqua Fit: day time classes are limited to 12 shallow end registrants. An additional 6 registrants may book space in the deep end. Session includes a 45 minute class and 15 minutes of leisure swim. Hot tub is limited to 7 individuals at one time with a max stay of 10 minutes and is open to all users with a swim booking. The Sauna remains closed until further notice.
