WEEK 7 - Beach Wrecked August 16 - 20 How many beaches do you think we can hit this week! We'll have sand castle competitions, fort building, survival challenges, and more.
WEEK 4 - Summer Olympics July 19 - 23 We'll compete in Olympic themed games! Baton relays, tug-o-war, water balloon toss, obstacle courses, and more!

Aerial Circus Teens & Performance Troupe - TUESDAYS and/or FRIDAYS Ages: 12 - 16
This is a mixed class of beginner and intermediate students. The class starts with a group warm-up followed by strengthening exercises and stretches. Aerial muscles are developed on the equipment by learning climbs, knots, and a variety of poses in the air. Students will do rotations in the air as well as participating in creative ground activities. From May - August, the Powell River Co-Ed Adult Recreational Slo-Pitch league is in full swing. All abilities and skill sets are welcome in this well organized and fun league. Teams play a number of games per year and we're always welcoming new teams. The 2021 season will start in mid June. Learn the fundamentals of skateboarding in a fun and safe environment on Powell Rivers smoothest ground in the dry rink. Skimboarding Day Camp Ages: 7 - 14
Learn the fundamentals of skimboarding in a safe and fun environment with Townskates Tim Ladner! Everything will be taught, from throwing the board to reading the rides, to proper balancing techniques and beach etiquette. Skimboard camps will take place at Mahoods Beach south of town. Students will meet at the parking lot and walk down as a group with the instructor to the best skimboard location. 6 skimboards are available for the first 6 who register, if you have your own board, bring it out and improve your skills! Taught by the Mother/Daughter team Suzi Wiebe and Aubrey Palme, Rec Skate is a 4-class set of skate beginner lessons that is intended to be a feeder program to both minor Hockey and the Can Skate Program. This introductory level of skating will help skaters learn to fall safely and get up unassisted, skate across the ice by themselves without falling and work on basic balance and gliding skills. Helmets and skates will be made available.

This is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace. Through a blended learning of online tutorials plus hands-on training and practice, this 8-hour basic first aid course will give you the confidence to respond to respiration and circulation emergencies, including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke and bleeding. Must complete online portion prior to classroom session. Standard First Aid/OFA Level 1 Ages: 15 & up
Comprehensive 16-hour course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR-C) skills related to adult, child and infant emergencies. Includes a more in-depth understanding of common first aid emergencies. This is a required course for National Lifeguard training. Blended learning environment includes online tutorial plus classroom session. Certification valid for 3 years.

Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Medallion
Minimum age 13 or hold Bronze Star Certification
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.

National Lifeguard Pool Option
Prerequisite: Bronze Cross, minimum 15 years of age, Standard First Aid from recognized agency (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol, Heart and Stroke Foundation) plus Airway Management & Oxygen Administration
The National Lifeguard (NL) Pool certification develops the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. A new prerequisite is Airway Management & Oxygen Administration (AMOA), however, we will deliver this course in tandem with the NL. 100% attendance is required. The next NL & AMOA course offered at this facility will be scheduled on weekends in November of 2021.
Airway Management & Oxygen Administration Provides knowledge and practice to maintain an airway and administer supplemental oxygen. Content includes: safe handling of oxygen, application of oropharyngeal airways and oxygen delivery devices, pulse oximeter use, appropriate use of suction and bag-valve-masks. ADULT & SENIOR GROUP FITNESS REGISTERED PROGRAMS A Walk Through History Series: Willingdon Beach Trail Ages: 19 & up
Enjoy a stroll along the Willingdon Beach Trail with the logging history of Powell River and the qathet region in mind. The Powell River Historical Museum is pleased to facilitate this walking tour featuring historical information, logging anecdotes and a review of several logging artifacts displayed along the trail. Maybe you are new to the area and would like to learn more about our logging history or maybe you used to work in the industry and have your own logging story to share! Either way, you can enjoy this classic Powell River walk.
A Walk Through History Series: Historic Townsite Ages: 19 & up
Take a historic tour through Townsite, the original area of Powell River where over a 100 years ago the town was planned and built by the Powell River Company to house the workers and their families for what was to become the largest newsprint manufacturer in the world. Designated a National Historic District in 1995, Townsite retains many of its original heritage charm and character with most of the original 400 Arts and Craft style homes and many important civic and commercial buildings still standing and in use. Your tour will bring this history alive with many interesting historical features and stories for residents and visitors alike. A Walk Through History Series: Valentine Mountain Ages: 19 & up
Make your way up Valentine Mountain meanwhile enjoying historical information on your surroundings. This walk will begin with history on Cranberry, including touching on the history of the Cranberry Cemetery. Beautiful views of the Malaspina Strait awaits you at the top, along with some short stories and historical information on the islands you see ahead. Hearts in Motion Walking Group Ages: 19 & up
The Hearts in Motion Walking program is designed to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity by walking. Walking is a great way to boost health and energy and it's easily incorporated into any lifestyle. You can reduce risk factors such as stress, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and body fat by incorporating over thirty minutes of physical activity most days of the week. Women with Weights Ages: 16 & up
Did you know that weight training not only builds strength, but builds healthier bones, stronger joints, and can even increase confidence? This small group training program is perfect for you if you want to explore the benefits of weight training with expert instruction from a certified personal trainer in a supportive environment with other women. Participants will learn how to use a variety of equipment, including machines and dumbbells, and learn the basics of a safe and effective weight training program. Sunset Yoga Ages: 16 & up
This fantastic outdoor yoga program is an amazing way to unwind from the day. Open to all levels. Please dress appropriately for outdoor temperatures. Restorative Hatha Yoga Ages: 16 & up
This gentle yoga practice incorporates the use of yoga props and chairs to modify the poses to allow participants to ease into each pose. Please bring a mat and water bottle to class.
