Prerequsite

This course begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Endurance standard is a 400 metre swim within 11 minutes. Candidates must attend ALL sessions. Bring your Canadian Lifesaving Manual and provide proof of your Bronze Medallion certification to the instructor

Emergency First Aid/OFA Level 1

Ages: 15 & up

This is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace. Through a blended learning of online tutorials plus hands-on training and practice, this 8-hour basic first aid course will give you the confidence to respond to respiration and circulation emergencies, including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attach, stroke and bleeding. Must complete online portion prior to classroom session.

Are you new to the weight room? Attend a one hour orientation session to familiarize yourself with our cardio and weight equipment and learn how to use them safely and effectively.

Aquatic Personal Training Packages

All session are 45 minutes. The viscosity of the water provides an excellent source of resistance when incorporated into an Aquatic Personal Training Program. This resistance allows for muscle strengthening without the need of weights. This program is especially useful for those with arthritis, healing fractured bones, or who are overweight.

Weight Training, Spin and Pilates instructor. She is also a certified Personal Trainer on land and in water. Bianca is fascinated by the human body and all its capabilities and the science that always discovers new and improved workouts to either get people in better shape, helps them to recover from injuries or improve their everyday mobility.

Gerrimae has had a lifelong passion for movement, food, and people. She was the owner of Thrive Fitness, went back to school to pursue an education in nutrition, became a certified indoor rowing instructor then opened My Element Health and Fitness. For 15 years she shared her knowledge and energy, empowering women to move and thrive. She has broadened her knowledge base greatly by becoming a nutrition coach to allow her a wider approach to her personal training. Her clients benefit not only from excellent coaching but from her lifelong nurturing of people in her care.

Kimberley Gage is a BCRPA Personal and Older Adult Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Yoga Teacher. A cheerleader at heart, she is passionate about helping clients meet their health, fitness and mobility goals, regardless of their ability. Kimberley employs a variety of strength and mobility techniques to increase mindbody awareness and improve function.

Roché Rossouw is a BCRPA personal trainer, group fitness instructor and health coach. She is certified in Older Adult, Steady Feet , and Precision Nutrition Level 2, and enjoys teaching people to use the best technique possible when they exercise. “I believe everybody who is able to move, can start somewhere and get stronger if they use good exercise technique, consistently show up to train and try to have fun in the process."

Nia is a holistic movement class and a powerful fusion of dance, martial arts and mindfulness practices. Nia is for every body, regardless of age, health or fitness level. Practiced barefoot, Nia’s purpose is to inspire and guide people to listen to the wisdom of the body, choose movement that feels good, and find connection in community. Using a system of 52 simple moves, each Nia workout delivers full-body conditioning leaving you energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced.

Running may be the simplest form of exercise, but it is also a skill. Running fast is a highly technical skill. This 4 week program is designed to teach some of the most fundamental and impactful basics of running faster, regardless of your sport. You can expect to take away drills that will help you improve your own running training and techniques to increase your running speed and economy. Learn from our running coach who has worked with a wide variety of clientele with a large range of ages and abilities, from youth to senior, and from young athletes to Olympians, over a 25 year career. In partnership with the BCEHS Community Paramedicine Program, the FREE Vitals Clinic is a drop-in program where participants can have their blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood sugar and temperature checked by our community paramedic. You will have the opportunity to discuss health issues that might be causing you concern. No medical treatments will be provided at these appointments.
