This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, ‘Songlines: The Living Narrative of Our Nation’, encourages us to learn about the Dreamtime – when ancestral spiritual beings shaped our rivers, lakes, plants, land formations and living creatures. NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate our Indigenous cultural fabric – something we do every day at the City of Sydney. In preparing Sustainable Sydney 2030, the strategic plan that guides everything we do, our community told us that better recognition of Indigenous identity and community is incredibly important. So we created The Eora Journey, a plan that includes public art, support for major events, an economic development plan and a knowledge and cultural centre. I hope you enjoy this diverse program for NAIDOC Week and take the chance to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the country.
