DAN’S debrief

Hi everyone and welcome to the first edition of Moo Matters for 2013.

We have already achieved some great things this year; in particular, I would like to thank Dean Little for getting the intranet up and running. This has been lengthy process with a lot of hard work and the result is fantastic.

I would encourage everyone to go online and start using it, making sure you update your profile photo and extension number as a priority. It’s a great place to find all your updates as well as all the policies and procedures, HR forms, applications, videos and a staff notice board to share news with your colleagues.

Finally, I would like to congratulate all our winners from the City’s annual Reward and Recognition dinner. It was a truly fantastic evening held in a marquee outside the Civic Centre and a great chance to celebrate all of you who have made a conscious effort to make the City a safer, better place for all. You can see more photos from the night on page four of this edition of Moo Matters. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this night possible.

2013 CIVIC CENTRE SPORTS CHALLENGE - TOP FLOOR VS BOTTOM FLOOR Round 1 - Indoor Beach Volleyball Expressions of Interest are now being sought for civic centre staff keen on competing to determine athletic superiority in the civic centre. The Top Floor went undefeated in 2012, but with some recent staff relocations the question is now: “Who will reign supreme in 2013?”

Staff are requested to contact Nick Stawarz (ground floor - ext 5533) or Toyah Tinworth (top floor - ext 5426) to register their interest.

Hi Hugo!

Communications & Events Coordinator Matt Wilson and wife Jana welcomed the birth of their first baby, Hugo Wilson who was born on Sunday, 27 January weighing in at 7lbs. Both parents are doing great and enjoying being a mum and dad!

Christmas [high]lights Written by Sue Wesley As most of you know I light up my home every Christmas with Christmas lights to put a smile on the faces of all our friends, families, neighbours and passersby. Well this year, Harcourts Realty were running a competition for the best lights in the Joondalup region so my daughter Briana sent in a photograph of the house and then all the entries were judged on Christmas Eve. We hadn’t heard anything and thought someone else must have been lucky enough to win but then Briana received a phone call advising that we had won. We were both ecstatic and couldn’t believe what had just happened. Stella from Harcourts Realty met with both Briana and myself to give us our prize. I received $300, Briana received $100 for sending the photo in and $100 goes to our favourite charity, which we chose Breast Cancer WA. I’ll be doing it again this Christmas so make sure you pop past and have a look!

Aquamotion Health and Fitness High Achievers DAVE McILHONE • Had a feature article written about him in Australian Ironman Magazine - June Edition • Was announced as the 2013 Iron Man Bodyblitz Australian Champion CONGRATULATIONS, Dave! He will be flown to Melbourne for photo shoot/interview and have another feature article in an upcoming edition of Australian Iron Man Bodybuilding and Fitness Magazine.

• Placed 3rd in the International Federation of Body Building & Fitness (IFBB) WA State Championships Men’s Physique Category • Had his article for Wanneroo Aquamotion published in Ultrafit Magazine.

• Placed 1st in the IFBB WA State Championships - Bikini Category • Placed 2nd in the IFBB Australian National Championships - Bikini Category • Is featured in an article in Australian Iron Man Magazine HOLLY BROWNLIE • Is featured in an article in Oxygen Womens Health and Fitness Magazine HOLLY SHAWCROSS • Placed 1st in the IFBB WA State Championships - Figure Category • Represented Australia in the IFBB International Championships in Poland Figure Category • Competed in the IFBB Australian National Championships - Figure Category Emma, Amie and Dave are preparing for the upcoming International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) Perth Classic in May.

Trip of a lifetime Community Development Officer, Frankie Bird, had the most amazing adventure to celebrate her ‘Big 0’ birthday.

Travelling and camping through Chilean Patagonia included a 9.5 hour trek climbing above the snow line to the granite peaks of Torres del Paine and visiting the Perito Moreno glacier, an awesome sight at over a kilometre wide and 60 metres high!

It was then off on the Russian Expedition vessel the Sergey Vavilov on a 19 day voyage to Antarctica. They dropped in at the Falkland Islands and visited Sir Ernest Shakleton’s grave on a bleak and snowy day in South Georgia.

Frankie said words cannot adequately describe the awesome beauty and breathtaking scenery of Antarctica with its glacier covered mountains and thousands of

uniquely shaped icebergs; nor the spectacular wildlife sightings - marvelling at swooping albatross following the ship, giant elephant seals wallowing on the shorelines and penguins torpedoing alongside their zodiacs in the water; and standing among hundreds of thousands of king penguins in the snow.

They braved the elements almost every day to go ashore by zodiac in their wellie boots and many layers of clothing.

Frankie wore snow shoes for the first time to make her way through deep snow drifts. The rough seas of the Drake Passage just before Cape Horn took their toll when she ended up being poleaxed by a handrail while the ship was heaving and cracked a couple of ribs. However, she wasn’t seasick throughout the whole voyage despite not taking any medication, so a small price to pay really for such a memorable trip! Frankie has now conquered all seven continents and doubts any travel in the future will even come close to matching this ‘holiday of a lifetime’.

City romance Aquamotion’s Emilia Golik and the City’s Graphic Designer Simon Musgrave celebrated their wedding recently in the beautiful gardens at Caves House, Yallingup.

The ceremony was followed by an intimate reception with close friends and family on the water at Duckstein Brewery.

The celebrations will continue as the newlyweds jet off to America for their honeymoon in March.

A fun afternoon Yvette Heath’s partner Viv had been having medical problems and most of her holiday had been spent going back and forth to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital every day.

To have a break, she had a wonderful afternoon with two of her girlfriends and it was such a laugh and something Yvette would recommend to anyone.

Christmas engagement Congratulations to IT Support Officer, Chris Mills who proposed to his partner Jess Anne on Christmas Day.

Her friend is a hairdresser, make-up artist and photographer and they decided to have a photo shoot.

She made up both Yvette and her friend, gave them hair extensions, showed them some poses to try and do from the internet and then took loads of photos as they tried to pretend they were models! Yvette said the end results were hilarious, as were the attempts at modelling, particularly following a few glasses of champagne.
