SOFIA (Stories Of Faith In Action) New Members On March 5th, CLC welcomed 13 new families who made public affirmation of their baptism and became official members of Christ Lutheran Church. So when you see someone with a blue name tag – please introduce yourself. And a special thank you to all our members for being such wonderful, friendly people. It’s our welcoming environment and culture that make visitors come back, and this couldn’t happen without all of you.
ELCA Global Barnyard On March 12th, our friends from Restoration Ranch came out with two baby goats, two lambs, and one big baby bunny! Their visit helped bring awareness to the ELCA Global Barnyard project which provides animals to families in need in various countries in an effort to defeat world hunger. For example, chicks are raised to produce eggs, goats are used for their milk, and sheep for their wool that families can then trade or sell. This past year, between donations and the outreach budget, CLC was able to purchase: 2 cows, 11 goats, 3 sheep, 3 roosters, and 3 chicks. This equates to $2000! Thank you CLC for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
Chefs for Christ Most people don’t realize this, but our Chefs for Christ ministry has been pretty busy. In addition to providing meals for funeral receptions recently, Chefs has been, is, and will be providing meals to a long-time member of our congregation who is facing cancer. These meals don’t just provide nourishment, they send a message that she is loved and cared for, which is what CLC does best. Our recipient would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to those who are participating in this wonderful ministry.

Preparing the Way of God’s Continuing Work in Our Midst The pastoral leadership and management structure here at Christ Lutheran is based upon the findings of the 2015 Transition Team from the survey process and identification of key areas for improvement for Christ Lutheran Church (CLC), as well as a reflection of additional insight and discussion by Council on these issues. The job descriptions of both the Lead Pastor and the Executive Pastor were designed to bring forth the key future opportunities identified in the transition process for CLC’s continued growth and improvement, including the need for team building; strengthening relationships with the Synod, ELCA, and the local community; pastoral care; adult spiritual formation; and improved management of CLC’s administration and logistical operations. The Lead Pastor would be primarily responsible for Ministry, Worship, Finance, and Community Leadership. The Lead Pastor would be the leader of the Congregation; to lead the Church in implementation and accomplishment of CLC’s Mission and Vision Statement. The Executive Pastor would be primarily responsible for Operations, Administration, Programmatic Ministry Development, and Staff Management to support the Lead Pastor, and to support the implementation and accomplishment of CLC’s Mission and Vision Statement. These functions would also include working in tandem with the Lead Pastor on ministry evaluation, goal setting, strategy, development, and mentoring of lay leaders within the congregation. The Executive Pastor’s responsibilities would be complementary to and supportive of the Lead Pastor’s functions. Both pastors are to be centered in Word and Sacrament, and to share in preaching, teaching, worship, pastoral care, and faith formation. This structure, however, is not a “co-pastor” approach. The Lead Pastor would be the “lead” pastor (akin to a company president or Captain of a ship), and the Executive Pastor would report to the Lead Pastor, (akin to a company Chief Operating Officer or Executive Officer of a ship).
Executive Pastor General Description The Executive Pastor is responsible for the overall management and direction of church operations and staff, leading all functional areas in support and accomplishment of the church’s mission, including strategic planning, administration, human resources, facility maintenance, and operations. The Executive Pastor will lead worship on a periodic schedule as agreed upon by the Lead Pastor.
Essential Job Functions 1. Support the Lead Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s mission, through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, planning, and overall direction and management of church staff. 2. Ensure the operational readiness of the church through oversight and management of the support staff performing duties in administration, finance, human resources, and facilities management. 3. Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures that provide the Lead Pastor and church staff with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church. 4. Provide guidance and training for church leaders (both in ministry and support areas) to undergird the healthy, long-term growth of the church. 5. Partner with the Lead Pastor and Visitation Pastor to ensure pastoral care needs of the congregation are met. 6. Lead the church’s building and maintenance programs including contractor selection and construction, and support the Lead Pastor in capital fund raising campaigns, master planning, design and architecture. 7. Lead the ministry staff in establishment and ongoing direction of ministries and programs that effectively reach the church’s demographic, insuring the accomplishment of the overall mission. 8. Work within the Lead Pastor’s direction to facilitate and coordinate an annual strategic planning process including evaluation of ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values; development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of three year goals. 9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Pastor Allert’s Message Change… It’s a word that in some churches is nearly classified as an expletive. Worship patterns, our usual seats in the sanctuary, even Jell-O recipes… Some church-goers develop certain behavioral trends that provide a sense of comfort in familiarity. For these brothers and sisters of Christ in our family, news of change rings alarms of anxiety, turbulence, confusion, distrust and fear. That’s not a judgement statement – it’s a recognized state of reality many experience, a reality that needs to be met with compassion and understanding. If and when change is not easy for any one member of a family, change ought not to be easily accepted by the rest of the family. As St. Paul writes in Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” In the past few years here at Christ Lutheran, there has been a tremendous amount of change, truly a remarkable amount. Decoration and campus resources, infrastructure and organization, worship life and opportunities for discipleship growth, and yes of course; staffing. Though we certainly connect with tangibles such as singing certain genres of Christian music and where we meet one another around a cup of coffee or lemonade, there is something uniquely powerful that stirs our souls around changes in staffing. That something is relationship. God has blessed us with the lives that we have. God has blessed them further with opportunities to grow along the way in our relationships with one another. This past Lenten season, we have been looking at the theme “The Journey to Who We Are”. All along each of our journeys, we have been blessed by those people in our lives in which relationships have been created, nurtured and shared. And when those relationships change – especially when it happens beyond a sense of our own control or desire – it hurts. In that hurt, those ringing alarms of anxiety, turbulence, confusion, distrust and fear sound off ever so loudly in our aching souls. To some extent or another, that is how God created us to be and to feel. To suggest denying such a reality insults both those who are hurting, and our own divine Architect. Even so, feelings generally do not alter our current realities. Rather, they help us to cope and to grow stronger in them. When embraced and given room to breathe, our feelings have the potential to be expressed in ways that are not just healthy for the rest of the family, but healthy for our own individual well-being. They are a very real part of each of our journeys. And no one person is at the exact same point of the journey, with the exact same responding feeling, as any other member of the family. Understanding this truth with compassion, but also with purposeful clarity for where the family continues on ahead, helps the journey to lovingly progress. When that is able to happen, the alarms begin to silence themselves, confidence starts to rebuild, vision regains clarity, and shared momentum drives ahead. In life, there are very few constants. That truth provides an opportunity to fully appreciate each gift and discovery as they are available to us. I also find comfort in one of those very few constants in life; the love of God that sustains, brings peace, renews hope, casts out fear, gives hope, and casts vision. May that same Love of God that blesses me with each of these gifts, be of great strength to you as well. For truly, this holy church of our Lord’s that is Christ Lutheran will continue to weather change when need-be, will do so together as a family, and will venture on in the beautiful calling that God has for us. Team Leader Worship Team Training We will have an Easter Worship Team training session for Assigned Team Leaders only on Sunday, April 9th (Palm Sunday) at 9:15 AM in the Youth Room.
Decorating the Church and Organizing Easter Flowers We will be decorating the church for Easter on Wednesday, April 12th at 10am. Easter flowers need attending to before they are placed in the sanctuary on Good Friday. We will also be setting up for Maundy Thursday hand-washing.
Prayer Vigil
Prayer Vigil After the Maundy Thursday worship on April 13th, from 9:00pm to midnight, the Sanctuary will be open for personal meditation. Prayer books, bibles and hymnals will be available.
Nursery Volunteers for Easter We are in need of people to help in the nursery during the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30am services on Easter Sunday. If you can help please sign the response sheet.
Easter Egg Hunt CLC Mops and CLC Staff will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at CLC for Youth on Saturday, April 8th at 9:30 AM. Weather permitting, event will be outside. Please meet in the grassy area near the preschool at 9:30am. Hunt begins at 9:40!
Refreshments on Easter Sunday Please join us in the Fellowship hall for wonderful fresh baked goods after services on Easter Morning. Please bring a treat to share!
Stations of the Cross in the Sanctuary on Good Friday We will be projecting the Stations of the Cross from 10:00-11:30 AM and 1:15-4:15 PM on Good Friday, April 14th. Please feel free to go into the Sanctuary at any time during those hours.
Placing the Flowers on Good Friday
We will be placing the flowers around the Altar after the 7pm Good Friday Service on April 14th. Everyone: Please plan to stay a few minutes to stay an extra few minutes to help. With everyone there it should only take a few minutes.
Easter Flowers/Plants Easter flowers/plants may be purchased in memory or in honor of someone special. Plants are $16 each and will decorate our Sanctuary on Easter. Easter Flower envelopes are located in the Narthex. Please fill out the information needed on the front and back of the envelope including dedication and place it in the offering plate.

Easter Shuttle Please help us with space by riding ride the shuttle for Easter Sunday. The shuttle will run back and forth from the southeast corner of the AMC parking lot across from Outback from 7:00 to 11:30am on Easter Sunday, April 16th .
Volunteers to Clean up the Church after Easter We will be cleaning up the church after Easter weekend on Wednesday, April 19th at 10:00am. Please help us put back chairs, move plants and just do minor clean-up.
SEMI-ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Sat., April 29 in the Fellowship Hall, 6:30pm There will be a Potluck Dinner at 6:00pm before the meeting begins, so please bring a dish to share! We are in need of volunteers to help with setup/ cleanup. If available, please mark the response sheet or contact Dianne at outreach@clchr.org. The Nominating Committee has been hard at work throughout all of March in both reaching out to suggested candidates and receiving names of possible candidates for the 2017 Executive Pastor Call Committee. On April 11th, the Nominating Committee will present to Council the final roster of names of those members in the church that have confirmed their interest and availability to serve on this Call Committee. Council will receive this roster and at the April meeting, deliberate and appoint the Call Committee. After the Call Committee has been appointed by Council, they will be introduced to the congregation and commissioned into service during worship. If you want to be considered for service on the Call Committee, it is important that you inform Pastor Eric or members of the Nominating Committee if you haven’t done so already. The nominating Committee is Pastor Eric J. Allert, Don Alpern, Kathy Boyer, Beth Ott, John Ringkob and Bret Sumner. Thank you!
Dear friends and fellow travelers at CLC, I am finally in Houston, and am gearing up for a full-on sprint during Holy Week, but I had one last thing to say. During my long drive down to House of Prayer I had a long chance to reflect on the blessings poured out to our family. The last few weeks of time in Highlands Ranch was especially meaningful as I read through card after card of thanks, got to see how our family will be remembered alongside others on the tree of life, received gifts of all sorts - pillows, mugs, pictures, financial gifts, t-shirts, just to name a few, and I am reminded once again of how I had difficulty saying thanks on the evening celebration on the 19th. As Maya Angelou related, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." So it is, that while overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, I try to say that I am thankful, but more importantly I will never forget the way that you made us feel loved. Again, I say thank you for all the gifts and blessings over the years, and thank you for the ways that your love will shape the lives of those I meet in the future. Harrington Carnival • April 22nd, 11-1pm Did you know that Harrington Elementary was the first school in Denver Public Schools to be named after an outstanding teacher: Mary Harrington? This inner-city school knows that college is the key to making dreams come true and that’s why their motto is “College is an Option for EVERY Student“!!! Harrington Elementary School is located in Northeast Denver in the Cole-Clayton neighborhood. Currently our population is approximately 500 students in ECE through fifth grade. Christ Lutheran Church has “adopted” this school and each year we collect school supplies and host a carnival at the school. This year the carnival will be April 22 from 11 – 1pm. Together we celebrate the end of a successful school year knowing that we’ve made a difference in the lives of the children and their families by modeling generosity, giving, and God’s love. The carnival features games and a bounce castle. The carnival is free to all students and their families. There is also a food booth serving brats and hot dogs, soda, chips, candy and pickles that is free to everyone in the school. Donations of these food items are welcome as well as donations for booth prizes. If you are interested in giving a cash donation to off-set the $2000 we spend on the event, it would be greatly appreciated!! Volunteers to help run the carnival may sign-up on the response sheet, sign the clipboard, or contact Dianne at outreach@clchr.org. Working this event makes a great service project for individuals, families, small groups, and confirmation groups. All volunteers are asked to please arrive no later than 9:45 am. News from the Preschool
Hello and happy springtime! It is Preschool Appreciation Month and the kids will be performing on Sunday, April 23rd at the 9:30 a.m. service. This month we will be talking about careers and inviting parents in to share their jobs. If you have a job you would like to share with the children, please give us a call in the preschool at 303-471-9290 and we can schedule you to visit on Career Day which is on the 19th and 20th. Conferences will also take place this month giving the teachers and parents time to reflect on the wonderful progress their child has made over this past school year. We have enjoyed our Senior readers from Lincoln Meadows and our Music time with Ms. Linda. Chapel time with Mr. Gary, Pastor DJ and Pastor Eric is also fun! Our theme this month is, “Easter and The Lost Son.” Summer camp is available to all children 3 years through 6 yrs. 11 months old. Registration is available at any time. There will be nine weeks of camp this summer held Monday through Thursday either 9 a.m.–1 p.m. or 9 a.m.–4 p.m. And, you can sign up for as little as one day or as many as you want. Please jump on our website for camp information at www.myclcpreschool.org or we can email you information. Let us know if you would like us to at dmorgans@clchr.org. There is a $25, one time supply fee per each child regardless of how many sessions you attend. This fee is all you need to reserve your space and payment is due when your camp session begins. We can let you know what other paperwork might be required if you are not currently attending the preschool. The themes are Beach/Ocean, Art, Animals, All Things Outdoors and Sports. We will have a funtastic time! **Camp does not meet over Vacation Bible School week which is the week of July 24th** Registration for VBS will come from church this month. Pastor Eric is excited to announce a new ministry at Christ Lutheran Church. Wind and Spirit Wind & Spirit here is a unique monthly fellowship and Bible study opportunity for motorcycle and convertible/ Targa-top vehicle owners. Our first event is (weather permitting) Sunday, April 30th beginning at 1pm in the church parking lot. There, we will begin with a time of introductions followed by Bible study, and then a planned scenic enjoyable cruise together through some of God’s beautiful creation around the local areas of the front range until stopping for dinner together. Cost will be your fuel and your food, and friends are certainly welcome to join in. However, to make necessary arrangements, please respect a deadline to sign-up with Pastor Eric at pastorallert@clchr.org by the end of April 16th, Easter Sunday.

2017 Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly If you are interested in attending the 2017 Synod Assembly in Colorado Springs May 5-7 as a voting member, please contact Pastor Eric at pastorallert@clchr.org so that you can be considered for approval at the upcoming Spring semi-annual meeting on April 29th. The church needs to approve four voting members (preferably two couples to save expenses to the church).
As many of you know, my family obligations and concerns have grown considerable in the past few months. I now know that I must see them all through to the end. Unfortunately, with that in mind, I feel that I will not be able to commit to my work at CLC as I had hoped and ask that you please keep me and my family in your prayers. It has been such a pleasure and privilege to have worked with such a fine Congregation and Staff such as CLC. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity to learn more about the Lord and his good works and have a better understanding of myself. I love and hope to see you all very soon! - Debbie
