Focusing on the Vision: Christ Lutheran’s Vision & Capital Campaign Begins from Pastor Allert

Peyton Strouth Director of Worship & Music Ministry pstrouth@clchr.org Ext 109

Thank you to everyone who is taking part in the campaign feasibility study by means of attending the Town Hall events, completing and returning the surveys, and engaging in the upcoming personal interviews. This time together with the Holy Spirit will provide valuable input for church planning and future visioning. This campaign is so much more than raising money for Christ Lutheran Church! I firmly know that this campaign has the potential to bring us all together as one church, propel a reinvigorated culture of discipleship boldly into a brilliant future, and stir in hearts a strengthened desire to connect to Christ in beautiful new ways that bless us all. This will be my focus throughout the campaign, and I ask that you make it yours as well.

As your Lead Pastor, and as a fellow disciple and brother in Christ, I am asking every parishioner to do five things at this time: 1. Support and pray for Christ’s beloved holy church here at CLC and its leadership, 2. Open yourself to revelation and discovery for what God is eager to do with you and through you during this exciting new chapter of the church’s life together, 3. Continue to receive and study the campaign plan as introduced with each new step, 4. Join in attending worship regularly and engage in the Campaign informational meetings, 5. And seek out ways to volunteer and help with the campaign – utilizing the gifts that you have been specifically blessed to bestow upon this congregation. Building a stronger community of faith begins with getting involved, even if it’s just taking one new step forward with Christ as His disciple. To receive the greatest blessings prepared for us by the Lord in this campaign as parishioners and as a church; we all need to get involved. We are bound together both by our united past in Christian baptism as well as by a common future rooted in abundant grace. May the Lord continue to guide our growth in faith and our service for all of God’s people. Pastor Eric J. Allert

News from the Preschool Hello and happy springtime! It is Preschool Appreciation Month and the kids will be performing on Sunday, April 7th at 9:30am service. We are so excited to perform a new song for everyone!

Be Thou My Vision: A Lenten Reminder by Pastor Eric J. Allert

“Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art: thou my best thought both by day and by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.” – ELW #793 As we draw nearer to the events celebrated during Holy Week, these heralded words of one of my favorite hymns, “Be Thou My Vision”, continually cast the eyes of my heart to remember that when awaiting God’s inspiration for the future of His church, I (we) are to first look to the Lord. Otherwise we resemble the child who, after being told by their parent that a special gift awaits them, wanders eagerly searching aimlessly all around the house only to return confused and exhausted back to the parent who had been holding the gift the entire time. So too, we can be tempted to get wrapped up in our eagerness for vision – desiring to search and hunt down the latest idea that may spark interest, only to eventually turn disheveled back to our own heavenly Parent for guidance. The vision of the church must always be first to the One who created her, calls her as His own, nurtures and supports her, and ultimately guides and equips her for purpose. Together, all our hearts - and all our hopes turn to the Lord for the gift before us: the gift of being a church together that lives joyfully into the discoveries ahead. For truly, Christ alone is the Lord of our hearts – certainly our best thought in both the brilliance of the brightness and the shadows of darkness. It is the God who is the faithful presence of Light eternal – the Light that reveals the vision for His church.

This month we will be talking about careers and inviting parents in to share their jobs. If you have a job you would like to share with the children, please give us a call in the preschool at 303-471-9290 and we can schedule you to visit on Career Day which is on the 30th and May 1st. Conferences will also take place this month giving the teachers and parents time to reflect on the wonderful progress their child has made over this past school year. We have enjoyed our visits with the librarian. Chapel time with our friends in the church office has been fun as well! Our bible themes this month are, “Easter and The Lost Son.” Summer camp is available to all children 3 years through 6 yrs. 11 months old. Registration is available at any time. There will be ten weeks of camp this summer held from Monday through Thursday either 9am – 1pm or 9pm – 4pm. And, you can sign up for as little as one day or as many as you want. Please jump on our website for camp information at www.myclcpreschool.org or we can email you information. Send Deb Morgans an email to dmorgans@clchr.org requesting information. There is a $25, one time supply fee per each child regardless of how many sessions you attend. This fee is all you need to reserve your space and payment is due when your camp session begins. We can let you know what other paperwork might be required if you are not currently attending the preschool. The themes are: Beach/Ocean, All things Art, Animals, All things Outdoors and Sports. We will have a funtastic time! **Camp does not meet over Vacation Bible School week which is the week of July 22nd** Registration for VBS will come from church this month. A special thank you to our amazing CLCP maintenance team! They built cubbies for us and we LOVE them! We appreciate their time, talents and energy to help us! Many blessings for an exciting Easter! Christ is Risen! Deb and Blair

By Jenny Allert, MSN Ed., RNC-OB

It’s April!

The month we celebrate Easter... So what’s more fitting then talking about the health benefits of EGGS! For a long time the egg got a bad rap, especially around the word “cholesterol.” What if I told you that the egg is healthy, even in the realm of cholesterol? Let’s take a closer look at the health benefits of the egg. Eggs are a good source of high quality protein. Half of this protein is found in the white portion of the egg along with vitamin B2. The whites are also full of vitamin

D, B6, B12, and minerals, including copper, zinc, and iron. The yolk contain more calories and fat. However, they are a great source of HEALTHY cholesterol, and fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, K, and lecithin. Depending on what the chickens have been fed your egg may also include Omega-3 fatty acids. Eggs contain all 9 essential amino acids, which are important to get in our diet, as we cannot process them in a supplement form. Although, you should always consult your doctor if you have been advised to decrease your cholesterol, over the years we have learned that the cholesterol found in healthy food has less of an effect then the cholesterol found in saturated fats. Most doctors will encourage you to decrease your saturated fat (less than 20g from women and less than 30 g for men per day), and encourage you to enjoy that Easter egg! *If you are concerned or unsure if you can consume eggs please speak with your primary physician!

VOLUNTEERING MAKES YOU HAPPIER According to folks at Western Connecticut State University, volunteering can make you happier. Helping others kindles happiness, as many studies have demonstrated. When researchers at the London School of Economics examined the relationship between volunteering and measures of happiness in a large group of American adults, they found the more people volunteered, the happier they were, according to a study in Social Science and Medicine. Compared with people who never volunteered, the odds of being “very happy” rose 7% among those who volunteer monthly and 12% for people who volunteer every two to four weeks. Among weekly volunteers, 16% felt very happy—a hike in happiness comparable to having an income of $75,000–$100,000 versus $20,000, say the researchers. Adapted with permission from Simple Changes, Big Rewards: A Practical, Easy Guide for Healthy, Happy Living, a special health report published by Harvard Health Publications Seems like yet another good reason to get involved here at CLC!

Altar Flowers

Volunteer Appreciation Event A good time was had by all at the Volunteer Appreciation dinner.

Appetizers were served while a string quartet played, followed by entertainment by Stick Horses in Pants comedy improv group. The comedy group can be found online at www.thestickhorses.com. You can watch clips of their act or buy tickets to see them perform in Colorado Springs. Even the silly game that we played after dinner was a lively activity that brought out the competitive nature of many people! Thanks to all who attended, and a special thank you to the CLC staff who made the evening possible. If you want to be invited next year, all you have to do is VOLUNTEER!

Did you know that you can pay for altar flowers online in CCB? Simply sign-in to CCB at clchr.ccbchurch.com, find the Give button next to the $ icon, choose a one-time gift, choose the designation of Worship Flowers, and then indicate the amount you wish to pay for the flower arrangement. Twenty-five dollars is the minimum amount, but feel free to give more, if the spirit moves you! All that’s left for you to do after that is to contact Karen or Sam in the office to designate the date for which you are purchasing the flowers.

A different ministry that I would like to highlight this month is our Sign Team. We have a great team that changes our sign on Broadway. With our crazy Colorado weather changing out the sign can be a little tricky, so I wanted to highlight them and their ministry! We love that they do this. It’s a great way for CLC to communicate with our community and with you, our members! Their job can be completed at any time during the week and is very easy to do. If you would like to join this ministry please contact Karen Patz in the church office!

SOFIA

(Stories Of Faith In Action)

Another behind the scenes group is the Communion Bread Team. They bake communion bread for the upcoming weekend. They do such a wonderful job and we love having real bread at the altar! Again, this group can complete their duties at any time prior to the weekend. If you would like to join this group please let Karen Patz know! We really appreciated Cory and Cayden Rheault helping us shovel after that huge snow storm. Thank you for seeing a need and acting on it. We know that the job was a tough one! We loved how you put your faith in action and helped us dig out!
