THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS DESIGNATION DEADLINE Calling all CLC Thrivent Members! March 31, 2018 is the final date to designate your Thrivent CHOICE Program Dollars that you received in 2017. As of October 1st, only 37 members have designated their CHOICE Dollars, compared to 44 members last year at this time, out of a possible 116 CLC members that could make CHOICE dollar designations. That's just 33%! It would be great to complete these designations by January 1st, well before the deadline, and get these designations in the calendar year 2017! Use 'em (hopefully for CLC) or lose 'em on 3/31/18. It's simple! Please go to www.Thrivent.com to doublecheck your online Thrivent account to determine if you have CHOICE Program dollars to designate and follow the easy procedure to complete your designation. OR if you are not set up online, you can call 1-800-847-4836 and select "Thrivent Choice" when prompted and talk to a Thrivent representative about your CHOICE Program dollars. Whether or not you choose to designate CHOICE dollars to Christ Lutheran, please use the dollars you've received! If you have any questions feel free to contact Steve Strom, Thrivent Congregational Advocate at CLC at sstrom58@gmail.com. THANKS!
As we celebrate our veterans this month, please join our CLC Military Ministry as they support National Wreaths Across America Day on December 16th this year. Wreaths Across America is an organization dedicated to placing wreaths on individual veterans’ graves in over 1200 locations throughout the US. The organization began in 1992 placing wreaths on graves in the oldest part of Arlington that first year. Since then, the project has added more national cemeteries. You can sponsor a wreath at a specific cemetery, such as Fort Logan, for $15 each, or even volunteer with or donate to a local fundraising group. Please visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org for more information.
Invite a Friend Holidays are a good time to invite friends! Special services and events are held in the church throughout November and December. This is an easy and great time to invite others to CLC! Start thinking, praying and planning about who you will invite this holiday season!
Thanksgiving Worship & Pie Social Join us for our annual Thanksgiving Worship on Tuesday, November 21st at 6:30pm! Our annual “Pie Social and Auction” immediately follows the Thanksgiving service. A Message of Giving Thanks from Pastor Eric
I love Thanksgiving. For me it is a time to reflect in-depth with a grateful heart and say “thanks to God and those most important in my life.” We have so many distractions “side shows”, health issues, work worries that sometimes keep us from settling into the presence of God’s blessed peace. During this Thanksgiving season take time — more than just a “God is great and God is good” moment, but rather open your grateful heart wider. Give thanks, pray for the sick, peace in the world, Christ’s peace in your life, the poor, etc. End your prayer with all glory and praise to you oh Lord. A great tasting Thanksgiving meal takes love and time to prepare. Meister Eckhart (1260 – 1327AD) said, “If the only prayer you say in your life is ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” A grateful Thanksgiving prayer requires no “fancy” religious words, only love and time with the Lord. And please remember to include your church in prayers at Thanksgiving this year, for God has most certainly been very good to Christ Lutheran!
In Thanksgiving of Our Staff As we near some of the busiest times of the church calendar year, it is especially important to me that we take time to express our appreciation and genuine love for the staff here at Christ Lutheran. God has blessed each of them with tremendous ability and remarkable gifts for service. Each and every one of them are a treasure in how God continues to work through them for the sake of the church and the community around us. As Advent & Christmas are both fast approaching on the horizon, so too comes a focus on the joyous impact that generosity brings to those close to our hearts. As many of you know, our staff members consistently go above and beyond what is required of them for their jobs. Often they work many more than the required hours for which they are paid. More importantly, they frequently do it with love and enthusiasm for the ministry of the gospel! Once again, your church leadership wants to offer to you an opportunity to show appreciation for our hard working staff. This gift is determined upon the generosity of the congregational members and friends. If you are able, please consider giving an additional offering over the next few weeks to help with this gift to our staff. If interested, you may mark your checks or envelopes with the words “Staff Appreciation Gift”. You may place your donation in the weekly offering, or mail it to the office attention “Jeff Bergstrom, Treasurer” or give them to one of the council members at church. As always, your generosity is greatly appreciated, and so is the love and support that you offer our staff throughout the year. May you be blessed with the many joys of the season as we again celebrate the birth of Jesus and the love he inspires.
Thank you. Thank you! THANK YOU!!! I want to say a special word of thanks to all of the staff and volunteers that worked so hard to create and achieve a wonderful Lutherfest 500 event this year! Your efforts and faithfulness helped to provide a monumental event in the history of this congregation that won’t soon be forgotten! It is truly a delightful blessing to celebrate such a wonderful time as both your lead pastor and as your brother in Christ!

Pictures for Online Directory (Say “cheese!”) Consider taking and/or using an upcoming holiday photo for CLC’s online directory! There are many names without pictures and there are certainly those that could be updated! The directory helps the CLC community to know and recognize one another by name. Send your picture to Shalean: office@clchr.org. The online directory is password protected so only CLC members and staff have access to it.
Young Adults in Global Mission or YAGM
busy learning, playing and having fun at school. We are so blessed to have such nurturing teachers who love unconditionally and supportive parents who have wonderful ideas to share. We are thankful for our school and church family! If anyone has ordered Butterbraids, they will be delivered on Wednesday, November 1st for church members. We will put them in the kitchen freezer and label the order with your name. Please pick them up sometime during the week or by November 12. Thank you for your support! Our goal is to supplement our scholarship fund for community outreach. Family Chapel will meet on November 13 and 14 at 9 a.m. All are invited.
Pastor Gail spoke to the (YAGM in Central Europe from 2015-16) OWLS last month about her time overseas as a missionary (and had a great time sharing!). She learned that the OWLS attending were not aware of the fabulous YAGM program sponsored by the ELCA. Ninety-nine young adults were commissioned in August to spend a year being the heart, hands and feet of Jesus in a foreign country. These countries include: Argentina/Uruguay, Australia, Cambodia, Central Europe, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Southern Africa and United Kingdom. If you would like to learn more, follow this link: https://www.elca.org/Our-Work/Global-Church/Global-Mission/Young-Adults-in-Global-Mission
Our children will be learning about, “Jesus feeds the 5000” and “Daniel in the Lions Den”, music time with Ms. Linda, reading with our senior friends and also sharing a Thanksgiving feast with friends and family here at the school. If you would like to give some of your time to the preschool, please give us a call at 303-471-9290 or email Deb at dmorgans@clchr.org. We would love to share your talents and gifts with the children. We leave you with a favorite bible verse: Matthew 18:4-5 “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” “And, whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.” Blessings to you and your family, Ms. Deb and Ms. Blair
CALL COMMITTEE UPDATE
In October, the Call Committee reviewed and then updated our Ministry Site Profile in the search for our next Executive Pastor. Pastor Eric was able to reconnect with Rev. Sarah Moening in the Office of the Bishop, and a second slate of candidates is being prepared for the Call Committee to receive in November. Please continue to keep Pastor Eric, our Call Committee, the Church Council and our staff in your supportive prayers. Your efforts to demonstrate your love for the leadership moving ahead have been a wonderful blessing. We thank you for the additional patience that you have given, and the recognition of the importance for the process. Additional updates will be made through the appropriate release methods when ready.

Attention ALL CLC members! The OWLs group is under new management and they have taken the “older” word out of the name and replaced it with “outstanding”, so if you want to join an “outstanding” group, OWLs might be just the group for you! Their next lunch meeting will be November 10 at noon. Please join us! We welcome new members, and we promise not to check your ID!
Scrip Cards Pay Off! $326.60. Who wouldn’t love to receive a check for that amount on some random day of the week? Well, CLC did receive such a check from the scrip/gift card program last week. Thank you to the faithful members who continue to support this great ministry. That check came to us as a result of reloadable King Soopers cards, and we just happen to have several of those on hand for sale. Please come into the Fellowship Hall to pick up your reloadable King Soopers card or to purchase any of the other great cards we have in stock. Order forms are also available so you can buy exactly the card(s) that you want to give as a gift or use for your own shopping. Orders will be placed on the first and third Mondays of the month, so the next orders will go in on November 20th. Our goal is to grow this program so that CLC receives a check at least twice as large as our last one! Please help us to achieve that goal by purchasing a gift card or six!
Join me, won’t you? One of the things that I have come to love about CLC is the number of people who serve in such a variety of ministries. Lately I have noticed that we have some families who serve through several generations. For example, the Hubbards serve on a Worship Team, as does their daughter, Liesl and her husband. That sort of multi-generational ministry is awe-inspiring to me. Just before my dad passed, he asked me to carry on his faith through service to a church. He knew we were members here at CLC, but I was not as involved as he wished. My dad was a role model to me for my faith, and now my son is very involved here at CLC, along with my husband and me. I urge you to consider how you can become more involved at CLC, both as a role model to younger generations and as a way to further your own faith and commitment. Since I have become more involved here, both as a congregation member and as a staff member, my faith has grown and my commitment to CLC is stronger than ever. Join me, won’t you?

Catch The Spirit: Empowered for a Stewardship of Christ’s Church! by Pastor Eric Allert Someone once said there are two ways of looking at life: “You can take it for granted, or you can take it with gratitude.” The choice we make determines our character. For the person who wants to grow in faith, seeing stewardship as thanksgiving is a great starting point. Some of us may not have had a previous experience of weekly Christian giving. Some of us may be new Christians and want to understand what stewardship, giving, and the weekly offering means for the Christian faith walk. Our giving to God is a powerfully deep and spiritual practice of faithful discipleship. Christian stewardship is a way of life to manage the blessings we have received. Stewardship is about our spiritual need to first respond with thanks to God from whom all blessings come. Giving is our way to respond to God for what He has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ.
This year, as we look forward with great hope and excited anticipation for the blessings of 2018 and our stewardship of those blessings, we remember again St. Paul’s prayerful words of encouragement for Christ’s church: “I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.” (Ephesians 3:16-17). We as Christ Lutheran Church will continue to keep our faith rooted in God’s love, and seek to respond to that love with our gifts for the sake of the church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Offering thanks for what God has given to us and for what God has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross is a starting point. Then comes our heartfelt response. In worship, we are invited to offer back to God ourselves including our time, talents, and financial resources God calls us to account for what we have done with our money. If we can pass the money test, will it not say something about the character of our lives, whether or not we are Christians at all? Billy Graham once said, “If a person gets his or her attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in their life.” Christians should always have a thankful heart and indebtedness for the generosity of God; for freely, God has given unto us the gifts of faith, salvation, and life everlasting. Freely, we have received; and freely, we should respond to Him generously to support His church and His mission of love and salvation.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month
By Jenny Allert
Diabetes is a serious condition that can cause many health concerns if not managed appropriately. 30 million Americans live with diabetes with an estimated 1.5 million Americans over the age of 18 being diagnosed each year. There are essentially 2 types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when your body does not make insulin like is should, this type is not avoidable. Type 2 diabetes on the other hand is when the body produces insulin but isn’t able to use it appropriately. Insulin is necessary for our body to absorb sugar. It used to be that Type 2 diabetes was seen only in adults, but it can develop at any age and the incidence in children is on the rise. 84 million Americans are living with pre-diabetes with a very high likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes in the next 5 years. Unlike Type 1 diabetes, there are steps that can be taken to help prevent the development of Type 2 diabetes. 1 out of 3 Americans either have diabetes, pre-diabetes, or are at a high risk of developing diabetes.
SO what can we do to help decrease our risks of developing diabetes?
• Eating smaller portions and healthy foods, this can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. • Physical activity can help control blood glucose levels, weight, and blood pressure, as well as raise good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol, which helps delay, or prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. • Losing just a small amount of weight (between 5-7% of total body weight) can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes for those who are at high risk. In summary, taking the time to take care of YOUR physical health can and will greatly decrease the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. Simple life style changes can make all the difference! So this November as we enter into Diabetes Awareness month take the time to take care of your health.
