Meet Outreach Uganda's Project Coordinator, David Ocitti in September From mid to late September, David Ocitti, OU Project Coordinator and native Ugandan, will be visiting the metro Denver area for the first time. We are encouraging our sponsors, donors, volunteers and anyone who's interested in our work to take advantage of this opportunity to meet David and ask questions, learn more about Uganda and how our projects impact the communities we serve. David will be staying at our home in Highlands Ranch from Sept. 16th through the 26th. We would love for other CLC members to host David for a dinner in your home or take him out for a cultural event in the afternoon or to go for a walk in your favorite park. All ages, especially children, could benefit from this learning experience! He is greatly looking forward to the chance to thank everyone who has been helping the women and children of Uganda. We will also be hosting an open house (tentatively scheduled for Sept. 24th) during his visit. He will be at CLC on September 21st. From Colorado, David will move on to southern California to attend a workshop to learn techniques for cultivating a certain herb (a multipurpose tree) that will help generate additional income for northern Uganda farmers. Please call or email Carol or Jim Davis if you would like to host David for dinner or have any questions (carol@outreachuganda.org or 303/694-2335).

Pastor DJ’s Message

What do you want to ask but were always afraid?

Rev. DJ Dent, Associate Pastor pastordent@clchr.org Debbie Freeman Interim Office Staff for Outreach & Equipping dfreeman@clchr.org Gary Knutson Director of Youth & Family gknutson@clchr.org Deb Morgans Director of Preschool dmorgans@clchr.org Mary Behnke Administrative Manager mbehnke@clchr.org Sallie Burns Financial Secretary sburns@clchr.org Linda Holcombe Director of Music lindaholcombe64@gmail.com Nicholas Koltay Administrative Assistant nkoltay@clchr.org Carrie Mallery Principal Pianist Larry Scalfari Pianist Barbara Pierson Director Nursery Ministry Barbara.Pierson@comcast.net Meliha & Predrag Vajzovic Custodians

It has occurred to me over the last several weeks that I may be answering questions that no one is asking. For instance: is anyone still arguing the points of justification and the means of grace as they were in the 16th century? Anyone? Assuming no one answered in the affirmative, I have a proposition. Rather than writing articles about what I think you would ask, I am going to open up my newsletter articles to the questions you are actually asking. If you have a question about the Lutheran interpretation of the book of Revelation, ask it! If you were wondering how many kings sat on the throne of the Southern Kingdom, fire away! In the response sheet in the coming weeks, you will see a line to ask Pastor DJ a question, please take advantage. These will remain anonymous so no need to worry about appearing foolish or anything of that nature. However, if you are seeking a more personal response, you may want to include your name so that I can make the personal connection. In the months that follow, the newsletter articles I craft will reflect the questions I have received. I’m looking forward to what occupies your hearts and minds. Peace, Pastor DJ

THEME BASKETS FOR OKTOBERFEST The Theme Baskets were such a hit, that we are starting early so that there will not be such a mad rush at the end to decorate. Some of the baskets last year and/or possibilities include: children’s books, chocolate, High Tea at the Brown Palace, a football party, wine, going to college, books,

movies, sports, car supplies, tea pot and various teas, stuffed animals, kids makeup, spa day, winter warmth, dinner and a movie, and many, many more. You can donate all of the fixings or just a portion of a basket. We have had baskets donated by groups, such as the Choir, Women’s Book Club, MOPS, Rejoice Circle, Agape Circle, Crossroads Band, CLC Council , confirmation groups, as well as families and individuals just to mention a few. If you are interested in donating a basket, please sign the response sheets at Church and bring in everything needed for the baskets, as soon as possible. You can bring your materials into the church office.

DECORATING THEME BASKETS If you are creative and have time to decorate Theme Baskets for Oktoberfest this year, we are in great need of your help. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact our Theme Basket Coordinator, Jill Stuab at jstaub4@gmail.com, or sign the response sheet.

2014 l a n o i t ega Congr vey... Sur nd a e t Upda teps S Next

In May, the CLC Council initiated a congregational survey to assess the mood of the church and in turn help guide future direction. 240 responses were received, with 85% of those coming from church members. Overall, the responses indicate that the congregation is pleased with the state of the church. One notable area weighing on the congregation's consciousness is church finances. Of the respondents who answered the question regarding CLC's financial state, a majority indicated that they were "concerned". The council expects to utilize the survey results to guide future strategic direction, beginningwith near-term decisions for the coming year. A detailed review and discussion of the survey findings will be a meaningful part of the agenda for the November Business Meeting (slated for Saturday, November 15th). Subsequently, as that date draws near you can expect to see more information related to the specifics of the survey. In the meantime, please feel free to talk with any of the Council members regarding the survey and planned next steps. -Steve Schaeberle
