Introducing Peyton Strouth,
CLC’S New Director of Worship & Music Ministry A native of Virginia, Peyton grew up the son and grandson of Pentecostal Ministers. As a preacher’s kid, he has been involved in church music his whole life. Having loved leading church choirs while in high school, Peyton continued on as a soloist and member of numerous choirs in the U.S. and Europe including The Credo Choir, The Orpheus Chamber Singers, The Turtle Creek Chorale, The Larry Parsons Chorale, and Camerata Appalachia, (just to name a few). He was honored to be awarded the inaugural Turtle Creek Chorale Choral Conducting Fellowship during their 2008-09 season. Having earned an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Peyton went on to earn both a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting (2009) from Meadows School of the Arts, as well as a Masters of Sacred Music (2008) from Perkins School of Theology. Both of these colleges are part of Southern Methodist University, Dallas. Peyton comes to Christ Lutheran from Texas, where he served congregations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, most recently as the Director of Worship and Music at Advent Lutheran in Arlington. His official start date will be September 1st, and he really looks forward to being in worship with us for the first time on Labor Day weekend, experiencing each of CLC’s four worship services. Following Labor Day, he will join the staff team on Tuesday, begin working right away with Pastor Eric and Pastor Gail in visioning the plans for the next season of worship services, and begin directing our amazing bands and choirs. Peyton’s Installation will take place at all four worship services on September 15th and 16th. Additionally, on September 30th at 4pm, the CLC bands and choirs are hosting a welcome reception for Peyton. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall to meet him and share in the served refreshments. We are thrilled to have Peyton join the strong ministry team at CLC, and look forward to his leadership in worship and music! To reach Peyton in the church office to greet him further, his email is pstrouth@clchr.org and office phone number is 303-791-0803 x109. Please greet Peyton and give him a warm welcome whenever you have the opportunity!
Christ Lutheran Needs Your Help! The CLC Council is asking for your generosity in giving to help offset Peyton’s relocation expenses in his move to join us here in Colorado. We are asking that all members of the Christ Lutheran Church family prayerfully consider a “special donation” to CLC to help us address this expense so that we can bless the newest member of our church family and staff team as a community of excited brothers and sisters in Christ. With your donations, we are confident that we will be able to celebrate this blessing together! Special thanks to everyone who has already made a donation!

Focusing on the Vision As introduced last month, this new and regularly running article in the church’s monthly newsletter is brought to you by the Executive Team of the congregation. The Executive Team consists of the council’s President Brian Martin, Vice President Nancy Sullivan, Secretary Liesl Farrier, Treasurer Jeff Bergstrom, and the called pastoral staff of the congregation, Rev. Eric J. Allert and Rev. Gail Mundt. The primary purpose of this section is to communicate updates to you about how the Holy Spirit is guiding the church’s leaders toward the vision of God before CLC. This month, we look ahead to the agenda for the annual Council Visioning Summit, scheduled for September 28th & 29th. Key items for prayerful discussion will be the celebration of the work this past year to implement a complete staff team that is not only passionate in creative service, but also remarkable in faithfulness to the LORD and His church. This was established as a primary goal at the previous 2017 summit in the following year for Pastor Eric and Council. We are very proud of the great strides the staff has already made, and very excited for all that God has ahead for blessing through this outstanding team of staff disciples! Next, we’ll be spending some prayerful time reviewing the past year, looking specifically to events that have been formative in influencing the direction of the church’s calling to be Christ’s hands and feet for the sake of the world to the glory of God. A part of this discussion will include reflecting on the 2018 budget, the financial health of the congregation, and the pending needs of the church. This time will conclude with a celebratory assessment of gifts and strengths that CLC has been called by God to steward as a congregation of disciples – the greatest of which are the living Gospels of Christ Jesus that are the members and visitors themselves. Additionally, the Council will be visioning forward the implementation of a Capital Campaign here at Christ Lutheran. A Capital Campaign is a planned church-wide journey of discipleship in stewarding God’s gift of the church for the future. These campaigns nourish the hope of uniting the church in purpose, casting the vision, supporting that vision by connecting giving with ongoing mission, and celebrating the blessing of achieving success in Christ. In addition to reviewing the recommended professional specialists and resources that have been presented to Council, we will also be discussing the goals and objectives for this campaign, in both financial and spiritual formation for the entire congregation. This will be a well-planned and steady journey for all of Christ Lutheran Church, and I am very excited to witness the Spirit of God shower this congregation in blessing after blessing after blessing… Finally, a significant amount of the weekend’s summit will consist of establishing short-term and long-term goals that are measurable in Spiritual Mile-Markers for the years ahead. These mile-markers will provide the Council, committees, ministry teams and small groups the direction needed to chart together a central and shared course ahead in living out our identity as “Gathered, Gifted, and Sent” disciples of Christ. By prayerfully looking ahead further in to the future of God in which we see the Spirit encouraging us to come and discover, we can plan out pivotal steps in more immediate timelines that keep the church on course. This annual summit is a tremendously important event in the life of Christ Lutheran Church. Please keep your Council members, and the work before us, in your prayers. And then, reach out to both your Council and Church Staff to discover together how you are being led by God to celebrate the vision being made real before our very eyes. After all, “CLC & Me: Better Together” wouldn’t be the same without you!
Day of Service Sign ups! September 22nd 9am – noon
Pick your favorite project and respond on the response sheet in the bulletin. Please be sure to indicate if you would be willing to lead this project! If you know of supplies or where to get cheaper ones, please let Ally Connections@clchr.org or Karen volunteer@clchr.org know! 1. Renewed Treasures: At this consignment store you will be reorganizing, lifting heavy boxes, moving clothes and furniture around the store. Great place for older families or adults that love organizing! Located at 6512 S Broadway, Littleton, CO 80121 2. Pack Dog and Cat Food: Homeless animals still need to eat. Fifty pound bags are not easy to carry around, so you would be taking the 50 lbs bag and packing it into smaller more manageable bags. All ages welcome! Meet us in the Sonrise room! 3. Laundry pod baggies: For the homeless or low income families, laundry is an expensive task. We will be putting together little bags with quarters, laundry pods and dryer sheets. When the families get the opportunity to do laundry they have everything they need! All ages welcome! Meet us in the narthex! 4. Bake off! Calling all bakers, to support our local firefighters and police we would like to say thank you by making sweets! You will make them here at the church and then deliver them to the different stations! All ages welcome! Meet us in the CLC kitchen! 5. Tie Blankets: You will make tie blankets and deliver it to Julia Temple. 90% of the residents there have no friends or family who visit them, so the net result is the blankets they will receive are the only gifts they get for the year. Great for all ages and very easy! No sewing experience required! See you in the Fellowship Hall! 6. Yard Work! Who wants to get their hands dirty? This project is geared to anybody that wants to help clean up somebody’s home. The people that you will be helping might be older and would like help pulling those weeds or they might enjoy seeing familiar faces in their yard. Great for anybody that loves helping! Addresses to follow! 7. Calling all social butterflies! We need you to hang out with the residents at a nursing home. You would talk with them, play games with them or wherever the morning takes you! See you at Brookdale Senior Living. 9160 S University Blvd, Littleton, CO 80126 8. Kid Kits: For this project you would start at the church putting together kits of games, coloring books, books, colored pencils, anything else that a kid might love to do. Then, after you do this, you will drive to children's hospital and give them to kids that are sick and need a pick me up! Great all ages! See you in the youth Room. 9. Field Elementary: In this new relationship with Field Elementary we are determining how best we can support them, in completing projects on the school property. Details are to come. 5402 S Sherman Way, Littleton, CO 80121 10. Picnic in the Park: Can’t do the day of service but would still like to go to the park? We need help setting up and picking up. If you would like to do that, make a note of which one. For setting up we are going to bring items from the church to the park, chalk the sidewalks, put up signs, set tables and chairs up and a photo spot! Take down is just the opposite! Great for all ages! 9370 S Ridgeline Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129
Welcome...
Welcome to Roger Hubbard and David Kaiser who will become Assisting Ministers in the next few weeks, Roger at the 9:30 service and David at the 11:00 service. Welcome fellas! We are still in need of Assisting Ministers at all services. Please contact Karen if you are willing to be trained to join this ministry. We have many knowledgeable people who can show you the ropes and support you in a new venture.
Women’s Bible Study For several years, Chris Schaeberle has organized and overseen the women’s Bible study that meets on Monday mornings. Many thanks to Chris for her time and efforts for such a long time. Her gentle guidance led many women to a deeper understanding of their own faith through the various studies that have been undertaken. On behalf of myself and many other women, thank you to Chris! Since we do not have a defined leader for this group at the moment, let’s plan to meet on Monday, September 10 to discern the road that lies ahead of us for continuing our Bible study. All women are welcome to join us at 9:30 that morning to determine how best to proceed with our studies, as well as a schedule for the 2018-19 school year. We look forward to seeing familiar faces, as well as inviting new members to this dynamic group.
On Monday, September 17th, Pastor Eric and Pastor Gail will both be at the synod’s theological conference gathering. Participants will be sharing stories that reframe our perspectives, not only about ourselves but about the world we are called to engage and serve. Through guests such as Prairie Rose Seminole (Director, ELCA American Indian and Alaska Native Ministries), Pastor Albert Ranaivomanana (Director, Betela Seminary), Dr. Ray Picket (Rector, PLTS), conversations will continue about community lifestyle practices regarding money and land, culture and society, values and leadership. Taking place at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Pastor Eric and Pastor Gail will continue to work together and with the Synod in their shared continued exploration of what it means to be Christ’s Church for the Life of the World.
Welcome Back to Preschool Hello from downstairs in the preschool! We are so excited to begin a new school year. Summer was very fun with eleven weeks of summer camp! We are looking forward to wonderful things this year and so much fun. We will be starting chapel time with Mr. Gary, Pastors and other staff, music time with Mr. Peyton, Spanish time with Ms. Sofia and our silver speakers who come from a local senior living center. Family Chapel time before school will happen each month as well! We are so blessed to have a staff of 22 amazing women who love to teach and love our Lord. We will begin the week of August 27th. Thank you so much for all of your support – we love being a ministry of CLC and wish everyone a great year in your own adventure. Ms. Deb and Ms. Blair
Sunday School Sunday school kicks off on September 9!
We’re excited to get the year started again! Sunday school is available for all children 3 years-6th grade. We meet during the 9:30 worship service. This is a great way to help your kids learn all the great stories from the Bible in a fun and exciting way. We also use this time to build relationships. Having friends at church is so important. The more time your kids spend in Sunday school the more they will enjoy it because they will have friends there and will know the teachers. If you haven’t registered your children yet, please go to clchr.org, click on MINISTRIES and then scroll down to YOUTH MINISTRIES and then to SUNDAY SCHOOL. You can also email Allyson at childrensministry@clchr.org and she will send you the link!
We are always looking for Sunday school teachers and helpers. If you are 7th grade or older we’d love to have you... male or female! It is helpful for all kids to have consistency so I do ask that you be available for a month at a time but this can be somewhat negotiable. To sign up to be a helper or a teacher, please go to clchr.org, click on Ministries and then scroll down to Youth Ministries and then scroll to Sunday school. You can also email Allyson at childrensministry@clchr.org and she will send you the link!
MILLER FARMS DAY!
If you love to pick vegetables, eat vegetables, or pretend you’re a farmer this is for you! Our day at Miller Farms is Saturday, September 15. We will leave the church at 9:00 that day to head to the farm. Admission for groups of 10 or more is $18 a person. Bring a lunch and drinks or buy them at the farm. This is a fun day of hay rides and vegetable picking! Dress to spend the day on the farm! Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen! We’ll return to CLC around 2:30. Please contact Gary Knutson with any questions at gknutson@clchr.org.
Dynamite begins September 9! Dynamite is a group for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders that meets the second Sunday of the month in the fellowship hall from 5:00-7:00. They eat dinner, play games, have devotion, play Bible Blitz, and do a craft. It is a great way for our upper elementary kids to spend more time together having fun learning about Jesus. Please register your kids on line. Go to clchr.org, click MINISTRIES, and then scroll down to YOUTH MINISTRIES and then click on DYNAMITE. You can also email Allyson at childrensministry@clchr.org and she will send you the link. Please see Gary if you have any questions about Dynamite.
BLAZE (High School Youth Group) continues on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 all year long. This year’s theme is “Don’t fit in! Be You!” All high schoolers are welcome to join this group! We will be participating in CLC Day of Service and Picnic on September 22 and Youth Worship is coming up September 29 and 30. If you have any questions about youth group please contact Gary at gknutson@clchr.org. Confirmation begins Wednesday, September 5 from 7:00-8:30 for 7th and 8th graders. If you have not registered yet, please do that so supplies can be prepared for your middle schooler. You can register at clchr.org, click on MINISTRIES, scroll to YOUTH MINISTRIES and then click on CONFIRMATION. You can also find the calendar and other important information about Confirmation on the Website as well. We are looking forward to another fun year of Confirmation! If you missed the Confirmation Informational meetings in August please contact Gary at gknutson@clchr.org.
First Bible Class begins in October
Classes will be held during Sunday school October 7, 21, and 28. Children in the third grade or older are welcome to attend this class. Due to the information taught and the pace of the class, attendance to all three classes is necessary. If you have questions or if your child is interested in attending this class, please contact Gary at gknutson@clchr.og.

Catechism & Discipleship: A Confirmation Class for Adults
The ministries here at Christ Lutheran Church are a partnership between the families of all types and varieties, volunteers and staff, teachers and students, pastors and lay leaders, and God. This partnership further blesses the relationships that we all share with one another in Christian discipleship. The more we seek to invest into that relationship, the more God blesses it with His abundant grace and love. Two of my primary goals as your pastor is to both create and model Christian Community, and to provide a Biblical foundation for faith formation and development. That formation and development begins with regular attendance in worship, but it by no means is completed there. Fellowship events, service projects/trips, retreats and camps... and of course, study! With that exciting premise before us, I’m delighted to announce that I will be teaching a Confirmation for Adults course here at CLC on Wednesday nights. When meeting, this class will take place at the same time our youth are engaging in their own Confirmation experiences, beginning at 7pm and ending by 8:30pm. However, the schedule and format of this course will be different, as the first class is set to begin on September 26th. We will be discussing Martin Luther’s Small Catechism of course, but we will also be including into this course a cast of deeper conversations in every-day application about sin, forgiveness, the importance families grounded in faith together, what life and ministry is like as a disciple in the 21st century, and more! So if you have youth participating in this year’s Confirmation program, don’t just drop them off and then pick them up 90 minutes later – sign up with Pastor Eric at pastorallert@clchr.org to take part in this very exciting class. And if you don’t have kids enrolled in confirmation, you come and join us too! Whether you have been confirmed already, or never had the experience but wanted to – this class is for disciples of all ages, backgrounds, experiences, and faith journeys... This class is for YOU! Sign up now, you’ll be glad you did!
Lutheran Family Services Golf Tournament CLC participated in the yearly LFS golf tournament which raises money for various ministries throughout the front range, immigration, the next step program, refugee relocation just to name a few. CLC had two teams participate in the 4 man scramble this year. Team #1 consisted of Keith LaShier, Steve Tolle, Jim Peterson, and Eric Pollack and team #2- Consisted of Tom Coates, Craig Marshall, Mark Yoss and Gary Knutson. It was a gorgeous day and team #2 brought home the championship to CLC for the Rocky Mountain Synod church bragging rights. Tom Coates also won the tournament putting challenge. We look forward to defending our title next year.
FIELD ELEMENTARY
number) or ashley@whizkidstutoring.com, if you’d like more information. An in-house CLC resource is Darlene Danyo, as she has been involved with the Whiz Kids program at Field for several years. The folks at Field were thrilled with the outpouring of love that CLC showered upon them in the form of school supplies. Thank you to the MANY people who gave so generously!
One of the programs that Field Elementary provides for their community is the Whiz Kids tutoring program. The Whiz Kids mission is to “help kids build confidence, skills and relationships that give them a future and a hope. We do this by providing one-to-one tutoring, positive mentoring relationships and spiritual nurture in the name and with the love of Jesus Christ.”
There are two other opportunities to volunteer at Field. On Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, the head volunteer for the food pantry fills the bags that are distributed to the kids on Friday. She would love to have some other helpers assist with that task. Also, Field has started a program called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to track student behavior and offer help when a child is struggling. One component of the program is data-entry to track behaviors and the interventions that are used to support a student. The folks at Field would love to have people help with that data entry. If you are interested in that sort of behind-the-scenes opportunity, please contact Karen and she will connect you with the correct people for this program at Field.
If you believe this might be a program that you would support, please visit the Whiz Kids website at www.whizkidstutoring.com. There are two Littleton sites that serve Field kids: Grace Point Community Church at Broadway & Orchard (Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm) or Bethany Evangelical Free Church at Broadway & Caley (Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm).
Look for information to come about projects to be completed at Field on our Day of Service, September 22. The administrators are determining their needs, but look forward to partnering with us to beautify their school grounds and building. Please contact Ally or Karen if you’d like to be involved at Field that day.
Ashley Weldon is the director for the Whiz Kids program at Field Elementary and she can be reached at 303-506-0073 (cell number), 303-504-9449 (office
There are certainly many more ways for CLC folks to be involved at Field Elementary. Watch this space in newsletters to come for upcoming opportunities to support the kids and families at Field!
SOFIA
(Stories Of Faith In Action)
Vacation Bible School was quite the under taking and without our faithful volunteers, love for God, and excitement for teaching children it would not have worked. This month I decided to bring up the faithful volunteers! These volunteers showed their faith in new and exciting ways, either by teaching children about God, making crafts or dancing and singing! Even the people that decorated the church showed their faith. It truly looked like you were in the ocean, forest, or even a hut! Thank you to all of the people that helped with VBS!
Another HUGE SOFIA is all of the donations that were brought in to give to Field Elementary. I couldn’t wait to share with you how excited the teachers at Field were. A lot of these students couldn’t afford to have pencils, let alone have some for the whole year. Thank you to each and everyone of you that felt compelled to give to children you don’t even know! That is truly a work of faith, that is what we learn every Sunday! Thank you CLC! Thank you to our Projection and Sound booth volunteers, worship would not be the same with out your dedication to this team. Your job is so important and a true work of using your faith in action. I liked to offer a special thanks to the members that help me make sure the projection system is up and running every weekend! Thank you all for your help on the weekends, if you are feeling God calling YOU to this ministry please let me know. I would love to get you involved!
