Dream Catcher Materials: • Wooden Dream Catchers – Pack of 10 – 19678
This activity is inspired by the 2022 Book Week theme, ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open...’
• CleverPatch™ Watercolour Disc Set – 24 Well – 19012 • EverZart Permanent Pens – Black – Pack of 20 – 19810 • Other materials required: Pencil, eraser, paint brushes, ruler, scissors, water and splash mat or scrap paper.
1. Protect your work surface with a splash mat or scrap paper. Choose 3 colours of watercolour paint that will blend to create an ombré effect. Start with the lightest colour and paint the top half of the wooden circle. The top has a single hole and the bottom has 3 holes.
2. While the first colour of paint is still wet, add your second lightest colour to the bottom half of the circle. Use water on your brush to help blend the colours together. If your paint has started to dry, add more paint to help the colours blend. Allow to dry.
3. Paint the top quarter of the wide feather and the top half of the two thin feathers with the same colour as the bottom half of your circle.
4. Paint the remaining parts of the feathers using your darkest colour. Use the same technique from step 2 to blend the two colours to create an ombré effect. Allow to dry.
5. Use a pencil to sketch some patterns onto your painted dream catcher. We have used lines and dots. Once you are happy with the design, trace over the pencil using a permanent pen. Erase any pencil marks.
6. Cut two 20cm and two 30cm lengths of thread. Thread one of the 30cm lengths through the hole in the wide feather. Thread the other end through the bottom, middle hole in the circle. Bring the ends together and tie a knot to secure.
7. Thread a 20cm length of thread through the hole in a thin feather. Thread the other end through one of the holes next to the middle feather. Tie a knot to secure. Repeat for the last feather.
8. Thread the remaining 30cm length of thread through the top hole in the circle. Tie a knot to create a hanger. Trim any excess thread. Your Dream Catcher is now ready to display!

Mini Beehive Materials:
GLUE GUN
• Terracotta Flowerpot – 15317 • Felt Squares – Pack of 100 – 10785 • Macramé Cord – 2mm x 275m – 19344 • CleverPatch™ Glue Gun Starter Set – 12505 • Other materials required: Scissors, pencil, ruler and templates (page 13).
1. Print out the templates on page 13. Cut out the template pieces and trace onto your chosen felt colours. We’ve chosen to include 3 bees, 3 flowers and 4 leaves. Cut out the felt pieces and set aside.
2. Cut a 6.2m and a 1m length of macramé cord.
3. Use a glue gun to add glue to the rim of your pot. Begin wrapping the 6.2m length of cord around the rim.
4. Continue wrapping the cord around the pot. Push the cord down so it touches the previously wrapped cord. Glue in sections as you wrap to help hold the cord in place.
5. Secure the end of the cord length to the side of the pot with glue. Allow to dry.
6. Tie a knot in one end of the 1m length of cord. Thread the other end through the hole in the base of the pot so the knot sits inside the pot. Apply a small amount of glue to the hole and the cord. Allow to dry.
7. Work the cord into a coil around the knot. Apply glue as needed to secure the coil in place.
8. Apply glue around the edge of the pot and wrap the remaining cord to finish the coil. Allow to dry.
9. Check to see if any areas of cord are loose on the pot. If so, apply small amounts of glue to secure. Allow to dry.

This activity is inspired by ‘Just One Bee’ by Margrete Lamond & Anthony Bertini. Illustrated by Christopher Nielsen.
10. Glue the beehive felt shape to the side of the pot. Allow to dry.
11. Cut a 10cm length of macramé cord. Place glue around the edge of the felt circle. Wrap the cord around the felt circle on the glue. Allow to dry.
12. Glue the body stripe felt piece to the oval body felt piece to assemble your bee’s body. Allow to dry.
13. Glue one bee wing piece to the front of the bee body. Glue another bee wing to the back of the body. Ensure both wings of your bee are facing the same direction. Allow to dry. Repeat steps 12 and 13 for your remaining bees.
14. Glue the felt flower centre pieces to the centre of your felt flower shapes. Allow to dry.
15. Glue the felt leaves to the top of the pot in your chosen position. Glue your flowers in place so they overlap some of the leaves. Allow to dry.

1. Mix equal parts light blue and white paint together to create a sky blue colour. Paint your art board with the blue mixture and allow to dry.
2. Print out the templates on page 12. Cut out the template pieces. Place the silhouette piece in the centre of your canvas. Trace around the shape using a pencil.
3. Decide which colours you would like to include in your bird. Think about the wings, tail, body and head. Trace around the base template pieces onto your chosen colours of cover paper.
4. Trace around the wing feather piece onto the colours you chose in step 3 for the base wing pieces. You will need at least 20 feathers for each of the four wing sections.
5. Trace around the tail feather piece. You will need at least 21 tail pieces. You can use multiple colours for the tail if you wish!
6. Trace around the wing and tail feather pieces in the same colour as the base body piece. You will need at least 36 feathers. Cut out all of the paper pieces and group according to each section of your bird.
7. Glue the base tail piece to the tail outline on your canvas. Align the coloured paper with the pencil outline. Allow to dry.
8. Glue your tail pieces on top of the base tail section of your bird. Start at the bottom and overlap the feathers as you move towards the top of the tail. Allow to dry.

14. Repeat steps 10 to 13 for the right wing pieces. Allow to dry.
15. Glue the body base piece to the canvas, overlapping the feathers from the wings and tail. Allow to dry.
16. Start at the top of the tail and glue the feather pieces to the body. Cut some of the feathers in half to add small feathers to the chest. Overlap the pieces as you work towards the head. Allow to dry.
17. Glue the head piece to the canvas. Ensure you cover the top of the feathers from the body. You may need to step back from your canvas to see if you need to add any extra feathers and fill in any gaps. Allow to dry.
18. Add facial details to your bird’s head using markers and a permanent pen. Your Colourful Bird Artwork is now ready to display!

2. Measure and cut out three 25 x 15cm rectangles using white cover paper.
3. Use brown watercolour paint to paint tree trunks onto the sheets of cover paper. Align the three sheets in a vertical line so the design flows from top to bottom. Allow to dry.
4. Use dark green watercolour paint to add shrubs to one piece of cover paper. Use circular motions with your paint brush. Blend the top with a small amount of water on your brush. Allow to dry. This will become your Forest Floor background.
5. On each sheet, use grey to paint thin strokes between the tree trunks to add trees in the distance. They don’t need to be even or straight!
6. On a sheet with only tree trunks, use light green watercolour paint to add leaves to the top of the tree trunks. Allow to dry. This will be your Canopy background. The remaining sheet will become your Understory background.
7. Glue each background sheet to the inside, back wall of a cardboard diorama box. Allow to dry.
8. Assemble one end of each diorama box using double sided tape.
9. Tear coloured cover paper to create bark shapes. Glue the shapes to cardboard rolls to create tree trunks. Allow to dry. We are using five rolls to create two trees. Three rolls for a tall tree and two rolls for a short tree.

10. Cut 5 slits in another cardboard roll about half way down the roll. Bend the cardboard to create branches. Decorate using teared paper to match the other rolls. Allow to dry. This will become the top of the tall tree.
11. Cut a sheet of dark green and light green tissue paper in half. Scrunch one piece into a loose ball to create a bush. Glue the tissue paper to the bottom of the Forest Floor layer. Allow to dry. Repeat using the other piece to create a second bush.
12. Use Blu-Tack® to attach a roll for your small tree to the Forest Floor on the right side. Scrunch a 1/4 sheet of dark green tissue paper into a loose ball. Place the tissue paper into the top of the roll to create leaves.
13. Cut three 4 x 12cm strips of grey cover paper. Roll a strip and slide it into one end of a roll for your tall tree. Use tape to secure in place. Repeat for the other 2 rolls for your tall tree.
14. Place the tall roll on the left side behind the bush and secure with Blu-Tack®. Close the box using double sided tape. Place the Understory layer box on top of the Forest Floor box. Use Blu-Tack® or tape to hold in place.
15. Align the second roll for your small tree with the roll on the right of the Forest Floor layer. Align the next roll for your tall tree with the left roll. Secure both using Blu-Tack®. Insert more green tissue paper into the top of the right roll. Close the box using double sided tape.
16. Place the Canopy layer on top, using Blu-Tack® or tape to secure. Place the last roll into the left side of the Canopy layer so it aligns with the roll underneath. Secure with Blu-Tack®. Close the box using double sided tape.
