For a step by step guide on how to sew a blanket stitch go to bit.ly/2RkoFzh
1. Use the BLM template provided on page 8 to cut out a piece of purple felt. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
2. Fold the bottom third of the felt upwards to form a pouch shape, leaving a flap at the top. Crease the felt firmly and then unfold.
3. Flip the pouch over. Use the BLM template to cut out a white felt cross. Use a simple back stitch to sew it to the middle front panel with purple thread.
4. Fold the bottom third back upwards to re-form the pouch shape making sure the cross is on the outside. Use a needle and white embroidery thread to sew a blanket stitch along one of the edges.
5. Flip the pouch back over and use a needle and white thread to sew a blanket stitch along the top edge. Make sure you don’t sew through the front piece of felt. Then sew down the other side through both pieces to secure it shut.
6. Choose a small button and sew it approximately 2cm from the bottom edge of the pouch. Leave 30cm of thread hanging loose and tie a knot in the end.
7. Fold the flap down to close the pouch and position a large button directly above the small button on top of the flap. Sew it in place. Wrap the loose thread around the two buttons to hold the pouch closed. Your pouch is now ready to use.
