Summer Sun Visor Materials: • Foam Geometric Stickers – Pack of 600 – 17665 • Foam Sheets – Large – Pack of 10 – 10788 • White Elastic – 30 Metres – 15119 • Other materials required: Hole punch, BLM template (page 7), scissors and a stapler

Create your own unique visor which is handy to take anywhere!

1. Print out the visor BLM template on page 7.

2. Staple the foam sheet to the back of the BLM template. This will secure the image making it easier to cut out.

3. Using scissors, cut the visor shape out. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.

4. Align the cut out template on top of the cut out piece of foam. Using the hole punch, punch out the two circles where indicated.

5. The two holes are where the elastic is to be threaded through.

6. Before removing the backs of the self-adhesive geometric stickers, arrange your design on the top of the visor.

7. Once your layout is complete, remove the backs of the self-adhesive geometric stickers and stick them down.

8. Using a 40cm piece of elastic, thread it through one of the holes and tie a knot. To get an accurate fit, hold the visor to your head and wrap the elastic around your head to the other hole. Secure the elastic to the hole with a knot.

9. Your visor is now complete and ready to wear! Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Other materials required: Scissors and BLM Templates (pages 8-11)

1. Assemble your wooden person by attaching the feet to the body. Glue is required for permanent assembly.

2. To make your Surf Rescuer print out and colour in the BLM template provided on page 8. Cut out your BLM template using scissors. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.

3. Use soft yarn wool and sticky tape to give your person hair. Draw on a smile and add wiggle eyes using glue. Allow to dry.

4. Align the clothes on your wooden person’s body. Use sticky tape to attach the tabs of your BLM template clothing to the back of your wooden person.

5. Your 3D wooden Surf Rescuer is now dressed and ready to hit the beach and save lives! You can use the same steps and the BLM templates on pages 9-11 to create surfers too! 4

Rip Awareness Beach Scene

You can escape a rip by knowing your options: Stay calm. Raise an arm to seek help. Float with the current until it releases you. Swim parallel to the shore or towards breaking waves and use them to help you in. Source: Beachsafe by Surf Life Saving Australia https://beachsafe.org.au

• CleverPatch™ Acrylic Paint Tube – White – 75ml – 16886 • Other materials required: BLM templates (pages 12–15), markers, scissors and sticky tape.

1. Print the BLM templates on pages 12 to 15. Be sure to use Cover Paper for a sturdy base. Using scissors, cut along the right hand edge of BLM template 1 (page 14). Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.

2. Apply glue to the left hand edge of BLM template 2 (page 15).

3. Place the Rip Current Awareness BLM template 1 on top of the glued edge on BLM template 2. Allow to dry.

4. Use markers to colour in the flags on page 12, then use scissors to cut out each flag, person and stand from pages 12 and 13.

5. To create the flag poles, apply glue to the bottom of two matchsticks, then place them into the top of a spool. Repeat this process 3 times to create 4 flag poles. Allow to dry.

6. Fold along the dotted line on each of the flag faces. Use sticky tape to tape down the edge on the back of the flag. Choose the flag to use depending on the surf conditions, then slide the chosen flags on top of the assembled poles.

7. To decorate the beach, apply glue to the sand area along the bottom of the beach scene BLM template.

8. Sprinkle sand onto the glued surface and shake off any excess sand back into the container.

9. Use watercolour and acrylic paint to colour in the water as this will give the sea a bit of depth. Arrange your flags and people on the beach and take note of the safe areas to swim.

Watch your Seagull swoop and glide in the wind as it tries to catch all the chips!

1. Print out the BLM template provided on page 16. Colour and cut out each piece. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.

2. Use a craft knife to cut along the dotted line of the Seagull’s body. Adult supervision is recommended when using a craft knife.

3. Slip the wings into the slit and fold them in half.

4. Assemble your wooden mobile brace using a paper fastener in the centre circles. Paint the brace blue using CleverPatch™ acrylic paint. Allow to dry.

5. Place a hole into the Seagull’s head using a needle and thread through a piece of craft line around 20cm long. Repeat for the tail and both wings.

6. Tie the other end of the craft line through the end hole of the brace. Repeat for the tail and wings.

7. Tie pieces of craft line in the other brace holes. Pierce a hole in both ends of the chips & shells, then thread beads, shells and chips onto the craft line. Tie a knot in the end of the craft line to secure the templates and beads in place. Your mobile is now ready to use!
