Welcome to PARADISE

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER FOLLOWS JÁVEA LEAD

More than a year after volunteers with Cancer Care Jávea decided to purchase a ‘cancer DNA mapping - or sequencing machine’ for Denia Hospital, Britain’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced a £100m project for the UK.

Whilst everyone waits for a machine that will analyse blood and detect cancers in the body, the machine funded by Jávea cancer Care, will monitor patients where cancer has already been diagnosed, to ensure that a ‘cocktail’ of chemo ingredients is ‘matched’ to their needs, and the specific type of cancer that is destroying their quality of life. Our repeated requests to the charity volunteers managing the project for a statement clarifying the whereabouts of Forty-year Tosalet houseowner, David McMullan Mbe recently presented our publisher, Clive Read, with a copy of David’s book tracing the history of the ‘Crayford’ motor car conversions across the range of cars from Mini to Mercedes, but never far away from Fords. Copies available from: mail@dmcmullan.com

We are grateful to Jávea Tourism Councillor Toni Miragall, and his Town Hall colleagues for agreeing that the Town Hall Tourist Offices be the principal pick-up points for this Directory. Published by Jávea evangelical Church, on behalf of the Christian churches in Jávea. There are NO PAID advertisements in this issue.

WHY

any machine and the money, have been ignored. Searching the internet, we discovered plans by ECMOR (English Cathedra of Modern Oncology Research) to work with the Valencia Catolica University fell through, resulting in money that had been paid out being returned. It is still unclear (from the ECMOR website) whether or not the American machine has been purchased - or not - and if it has, where it is? The Jávea charity is now working with Cardenal Herrera

University in Valencia to provide the machine at a cost of 120.000€ as well as a bill for testing kits, estimated at 20.000€ for each of the next 5 years. Controversy accompanied the announcement of the UK scheme on 10th December, that was described as ‘a new way of treating patients that takes into account genetic differencies between people that can affect whether individuals are able to respond to certain drugs, or not.’ This publication fully supports the work of Jávea’s charities and their volunteers. Jávea has been at the forefront of innovation since long before Ann and I arrived, but there is still much more that needs to be achieved. CR

Paradise?

When looking to name this ‘A2Z Directory of Jávea’s services’ a religious title was not on my mind. I chose Paradise (rather than Jávea/Xàbia) because - 25 and more years ago holidaymakers came and bought here, because it was Paradise. Intervening years brought dirt and decline to the point where brits were happy to describe it as Shabbier. I are proud to lead the call for our town to be Paradise resurrected!
