Valencia bans port fiesta firework final display

Officials in Valencia have refused permission for the ‘end of fiesta’ aquatic firework display from the Jetty in the harbour, on the grounds that part of the launch area is too close to woodland.
If any explanation is still needed
We could have called this local magazine HAVVYER HEARD, but we thought Jávea Jeard would confirm our light-hearted attitude to the serious political and economic problems in Spain, and their effect on Jávea.
The ‘Regulations’ say fireworks may not be ignited any closer than 500m from woodland, and the edge of the traditional launch area is 40m too close. Jávea Mayor, Jose Chulvi met with the Fiesta Councillor and organisers of the Fiesta, and ‘the man from Valencia’ to find a solution. The Mayor pointed out that in the history of the Port Fiesta (and that in the Town) there has been no history of fire risk - but 40m is 40m. The concern of the Valencia department from which permission has to be obtained, is based on a display

Alcalde Chulvi calls situation in Gaza “Catastrophic”
Jávea Jeard
Before the first item on the Agenda was discussed, Mayor Chulvi made an unexpected statement of support for people - who have become known as Palestinians - referring to what was happening as “Catastrophic.” He said Jávea’s deepest sympathy was for those who had lost their lives, families, friends, and homes. One wonders if his tolerant attitude would have been any different, had it been Jávea under attackfrom Benitchell or Denia, or whether he would have still sided with those (Palestians) who have vowed to see everyone of their neighbours pushed into the Mediterranean Sea. On the other side of the Med. as you look out to the East - is Israel.
Point 1 Councillors met on Thursday 31st July and approved the decisions taken by Mayor Chulvi under his delegated authority since June 23rd. Point 2 Coucillors ratified the action taken to object to new - but unseen - underwater boundaries imposed by the regional government, with a new map indicating what is in the public domain, which excludes Cala de Fora. Point 3 Expenditure during the past month was approved. Point 4 Acciona Agua S.A, applied for a financial revision of their contract with the Townhall. Point 5 It doesn’t seem a year since Councillors last revised the cost of sale to the public of the various books the Council offers through its Tourist Offices. The revised prices will be exhibited on the Townhall Notice Board, published in the Provincial Bulletin, then at the points of sale. Point 6 Revised prices were approved for municipal water supplied by AMJASA. No details available but I doubt they have approved the concept of the price you pay on the amount you use. Point 7 Councillors approved modification to the l’illa Plan Parcial proposed by a representative of Juan Fornes Fornes S.A. (the owners of Mas y Mas). Point 8 L’illa B Plan Parcial changes, proposed by Promociones Jávea were approved.
Point 9 Changes proposed to planning proposal 2005-81 were rejected. Point 10 The agreement between Jávea Townhall and Valencia Tourism Agency, was approved at a cost of 10,000€, but it was unclear whether the money would be paid by Valencia to finance Jávea Tourist Offices, or whether the money would be paid by Jávea to help finance regional tourist and national and overseas exhibitions. Point 11 The names of recipients of the 9th October awards, established in 1996 in honour of Jaime I were agreed. The Solidarity prize will be awarded to Antonio Erades Bou, acknowledging his local work, which has often been involved in care of the elderly and charitable events. The second award, for Civic Value will be made to Romantica Alternativa Saladar, a traditional dance group, who are involved in many local cultural events. Belen (Nueva Jávea) asked how recipients were selected, and the Mayor said names were submitted of those deemed to be eligible. Hardly a satisfactory answer. Councillors approved payment of a claim itemised as F2014/57 of 3600€ plus 227€ costs.
Councillors remain concerned that Jávea business are late with payment of their financial obligations towards the Townhall.

Everyone was uninimous about October 9th recipients
Councillors agreed to a readjustment of which Councillors served on the different Townhall committees but Belen abstained. Councillors approved changes to the upkeep of municipal buildings and the Riu Rau should be illuminated.
The Education Councillor presented a Motion claiming that the needs of Jávea schools were being ignored since 2001, referring to Jávea as ‘the forgotten town’ as far as
education is concerned. “We need to invest in people - they are our future, and more courses should be available in Jávea.” The Motion was passed.
Questions and Answers Jose Luis (PP) referred to the total traffic chaos on a Thursday morning in the town, suggesting that tourists be directed to Clot parking. (It would need a park and ride service. Ed.) He again drew attention to the total lack of Continued on page 15

"Consorcio de Aguas de la Marina Alta" - a regional council of 18 municipalities on water management has been revived after years of dormancy. The worst affected areas are Murla and Alcalalí. Wells which supply Pedreguer, Teulada and Benitachell are at very low levels. It is proposed that in the medium to long term, some municipalities use supplies from the Jávea desalination plant, and water from the Vall de Laguar and Benigembla feeds Calpe and Benissa and the environmental management of aquifers is improved. From La Marina Plaza - La Marina Alta... and Dieciocho.. Note: Pego is not a member of theConsorcio.
"Clubs Nautico" waits for renewal of their concessions
The Association of Nautical Clubs of the Comunidad Valenciana recently had a general assembly, in which the renewal of concessions for some of its members (including the Club Nautico de Xàbia) loomed large. Recently the law governing these concessions has changed, but recognises the sporting value as a key element for assessing a concession. However, the clubs being non-profitmaking organisations are much concerned about the fees which may be levied on them, since these would have to be passed back onto their members. There are 27 main clubs in the Comunidad, with around 10,000 users.

The "Fun Trip" initiative, organised by Jávea Town Hall Tourism Department seems to have borne fruit, with more hits on its social media sites. Agenda 21 Editor's note: The article extrapolated the use of the Twitter hashtag "#Xabia365" by 450 people to equate to "32 million impacts on the internet", which, as pointed out by commentator Eduardo, is a meaningless figure. Undoubtedly Jávea got more publicity through the story about the couple photographed "in flagrante" on the Arenal bathing platform at dawn photos which were front page news and went viral on the Internet, with a neat contrast to oil drilling platforms.
Old Town launches promotional magazine
Jávea Old Town business Association has taken a step to promote itself as an open shopping centre by producing a magazine with information on members' promotions and businesses, as well as notes of interest about the area. The new magazine, which can be picked up at the tourist offices has been prepared by Belen Paquitus Crespo in partnership with business owners and the management of the Old Town business.
Why Europeans are waving goodbye to Spain
The municipal register flash figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) show that of the more than half-a-million foreigners who left the local “padrón” over the last year, most were EU citizens. Not counting Romanians and Bulgarians, 219,225 EU citizens disappeared from the local rolls in 2013. Yet new population figures published by INE show that only a few tens of thousands of people have actually left the country. The pronounced drop in municipal population records, claim local authorities, is a result of a clean-up effort that has deleted individuals who had given no signs of life in the previous two years from the padrón. Britons make up the third-largest foreign community in Spain, after Romanians and Moroccans. There are 297,299 Brits on the local population registers, representing a 22.8-percent drop from a year earlier.

No 2 windmill on La Plana to be restored
Jávea Townhall has signed an agreement for renovation work to the second windmill that sits on La Plana de San Jerónimo, one of the iconic features of Jávea. The document contains official permission to start consolidation work and restructuring of the walls of this traditional building that was used to harness wind energy for agricultural use. The contractor, a Valencian specialist company called Contrafforte Restauro, work will start ‘soon.’ The project, prepared by Townhall specialists, will be funded entirely by the Generalitat Valenciana. The work was put out to tender by the Ayuntamiento itself with a base price of 39,995 euros and was finally awarded to Contrafforte Restauro for 27,776 euros.
Animal rights groups offer 2,550€ rewards for reporting abuse
Five Spanish animal rights groups have established a fund to reward people or associations who report cases of animal abuse. Two associations have already received €2,550 each, and a third reward is still awaiting a recipient. This first campaign has turned up two egregious cases of mistreatment. An illegal breeding farm in Bullas (Murcia) has been shut down after authorities found hundreds of animals living in cramped conditions, including sheep and birds. The individuals who reported the case said there were also graves containing dozens of horses. It also does not help that there is no single police agency in charge of animal abuse. Cases might fall to the National Police, to the

sense of the word) unnecessary.
August/September 2014 Nº 16
8 Never generalize; nobody likes it and nobody has ever said anything interesting in that manner.
9 Name-dropping is almost as feeble as the use of quotations; wasn’t it indeed Ralph Waldo Emerson himself who averred: "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know!"
10 Don't be redundant; avoid the use of superfluous, unnecessary, otiose, excrescent language. Talent is more than just the ability to open Roget’s Thesaurus at the right page. 11 The passive voice should be avoided at all times, unless you are writing for a newspaper or protecting your sources, whether they exist or not.
English as she is writ
Good English is not something you are born with; good English can only be acquired when you have learnt the hard and fast rules that govern it.
So, for those of you who occasionally have to write in English, and sense that the recipients of your labours are laughing at you; here are the 21 golden rules: 1 Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do.
2 Never use similes, and avoid clichés like the plague; they're old hat.
3 Avoid etc; if you have something to add, add it; if not, finish your sentence. 4 Hash tags & ampersands are ugly; don't use them, even if your Twitter starts to bully you.
5 Strive to boldly go where no writer has gone before, but split an infinitive at your peril.
6 Don't use contractions, even those that give a certain realism to dialogue and aren’t intrusive.
7 Parenthetical notes (however relevant they may seem to be at the time) are intrusive and completely (in the fullest
12 Rhetorical questions only show weakness and a lack of narrative style. Who needs them?
13 A preposition is positively the last thing you should end a sentence with.
14 In as far as it’s possible, and providing the structure of a scene permits it, always, within reason, get to the point as soon as (and I cannot emphasise this enough) possible.
15 Always acknowledge all authors whose work you have or have not used as inspiration. Derivation is not a crime; after all, no man is an island; not even Ibiza. And avoid alliteration. Start each new point with a new paragraph.
16 Say exactly what you mean; a writer needs analogies like a fish needs a bicycle.
17 Refrain from utilising vocabulary of Latin origin when Germanic alternatives exist.
18 Don’t show off your extensive vocabulary by using words that your readers cannot be expected to know; unless you have shares in a dictionary publishing company. Coxcombry is unattractive in a writer.
19 Keep all aphorisms short and to the point, and never exaggerate, even if the sky should open and the earth split apart at your feet.

21 Always leave your readers with a good feeling when they finish what you’ve written; even if death is inevitable.

A PROUD DAD
Four friends, who hadn't seen each other in 30 years, reunited at a party... After several drinks, one of the men had to use the rest room. Those who remained talked about their kids. The first man said, 'My son is my pride and joy. He started working at a successful company at the bottom of the ladder. He studied Economics and Business Administration and soon began to climb the corporate ladder and now he's the president of the company. He became so rich that he gave his best friend a top of the line Mercedes for his birthday.' The second man said, 'Darn, that's terrific! My son is also my pride and joy. He started working for a big airline, then went to flight school to become a pilot. Eventually he became a partner in the company, where he now owns the majority of its assets. He's now so rich that he gave his best friend a brand new jet for his birthday.' The third man said: 'Well, that's terrific! My son studied in the best universities and became an engineer. Then he started his own construction company and is now a multimillionaire... He also gave away something very nice and expensive to his best friend for his birthday: A 30,000 square foot mansion.' The three friends congratulated each other just as the fourth returned from the restroom and asked: 'What are all the congratulations for?' One of the three said: 'We were talking about the pride we feel for the successes of our sons... What about your son?' The fourth man replied: 'My son is gay, and makes a living dancing as a stripper at a nightclub.' The three friends said: 'What a shame... What a disappointment.' The fourth man replied: 'No, I'm not ashamed. He's my son and I love him. And he hasn't done too badly, either. His birthday was two weeks ago, and he received a beautiful 30,000 square foot mansion, a brand new jet and a top of the line Mercedes from his three boyfriends.'

Satellite Fact File
How to cut down on regular bills during times of Recession?
The most popular theme of both my eMails and telephone calls are people who are tired of forking out month after month for satellite rental that seems to increase in time, but to be fair, you do get extra stations on the upgrade. People often comment the programme material leaves much to be desired. Again some people comment that the quality leaves much to be desired!
Now, regarding the television and radio signals received in the Jávea and surrounding villages and towns, tests have proved that very good reception is available with excellent colour rendition and of course also in high definition, 3D and sound of unbelievable stereo quality. So, at the end of the second year, had you been renting this service it may have cost you in the region of 450 Euros, so already having your own equipment would have saved you 44 Euros. Now let’s move on to the 10th year, dare we? On ‘Rental’ you usually have to pay for the satbox and installation, Let’s be very kind and say 300€ and then 10 years of rental, not even allowing for increases in charges in the region of 2.470€ and the minute you stop the service, that’s it -No more Telly. If you had purchased the equipment I recommend and innstall, you would be some 2,000€ in front and these days improvements in equipment suggest they just run and run ! You do the Maths.
Moving on, you may decide that Freeview is really for you, but it would be nice to have the record facility as well, allowing you on a night out to simply pop the unit on ‘record’ after selecting the desired programmes and watch them at your leisure at a more convenient time. This, of course, involves the purchase of a Manhattan recordable Freesat satellite receiver, Twin LNB and a second coaxial down lead (one to record on, and the other for Live viewing). I should mention these satboxes mean you can stay home and watch a programme ‘live’ and ‘record’ another on a different Channel at the same time and it’s all built into the Manhattan. No more having to have a stand alone recorder, with all that complicated wiring etc. Sky / B.T. Sports! For those very keen amongst us who enjoy football, golf, tennis, boxing and

motor racing, a Sky Package becomes very necessary! Sky Cards are available and so are suitable satellite receivers, for which I recommend a Sky+H.D. DRX500GB satellite receiver, offering full ‘record’ and ‘playback’ facility offering over 200 hours. That’s a lot of TV with its 500Gb hard drive PVR and an 8 day programming guide.
I have found it important to consider a 1.4 metre high gain satellite dish, wall mounting kit, twin LNB and of course you will require a twin coaxial down lead, one for live T.V. and one for the record facility. We again estimate - based on many years of experience, two runs of 10 metres in most cases covers the requirement. In all cases mentioned, extra CT100 cable (the ultimate!) is charged at 1€ per Continued on page 10

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
My Income Tax return form has been send back to me because, in response to question 4, “Do you have anyone dependent on you?” I replied: ‘2 million illegal immigrants, 1.1 million dope users, 4.4 million unemployable Jeremy Kyle scroungers, 900,000 criminals in over 85 prisons, plus 650 idiots in Parliament and the whole of the European Commission.” They said this was not an acceptable answer! So, who did I miss out? (Alan, Evesham)
A father buys a lie detector robot that slaps people when they lie. He decides to test it out at dinner one night. The father asks his son what he did that afternoon. The son says, “Idid some schoolwork.” The robot slaps the son. The son says, Ok, Ok. I was at a friends house watching movies.” Dad asked. “What movie? did you watch? Son says “Toy Story”. The robot slaps the son. Son says, “Ok, Ok, we were watching porn.” Dad says, “What at your age, I didn’t even know what porn was.” The robot slaps the father. Mum laughts and says, “Well he certainly is your son.” The robot slaps the mother. From Eileen Weetch
For those who do not listen to the 'Today' programme on Radio 4, this is English humour at its best. Right at the end of a programme recently, there was a discussion about the obscenely high cost of entry into Premiership football games, the cheapest price of £60 and £100 per game is not uncommon. An older chap being interviewed said he could recall many years ago arriving at the turnstiles (it was probably West Ham United) "That’ll be ten quid, mate". "What?!" the old chap said "I could get a woman for that!" The man on the turnstile retorted, "Not for 45 minutes each way with a brass band and a meat pie in the interval, you wouldn't!" from Lesley Myer

Family Problems
Two men met at a bus stop and struck up a conversation. One of them kept complaining of family problems. Finally, the other man said, "You think you have family problems? Listen to my situation. A few years ago, I met a young widow with a grown-up daughter, and we got married. Later my father married my stepdaughter. That made my stepdaughter my stepmother and my father became my stepson. Also, my wife became mother-in-law of her father-in-law. "Then the daughter of my wife, my stepmother, had a son. This boy was my half-brother because he was my father's son, but he was also the son of my wife's daughter, which made him my wife's grandson. That made me the grandfather of my half-brother. "This was nothing until my wife and I had a son. Now the half-sister of my son, my stepmother, is also the grandmother. This makes my father the brother-in-law of my child, whose stepsister is my father's wife. I'm my stepmother's brother-in-law, my wife is her own child's aunt, my son is my father's nephew and I'm my own grandfather! "And you think you have family problems!"
Big Cavity
"Open wider," requested the dentist, as he began his examination of the patient. "Good grief!" he said, startled. "You've got the biggest cavity I've ever seen -- the biggest cavity I've ever seen." "OK, doc!" replied the patient. "I'm scared enough without you saying something like that twice." "I didn't!" said the dentist. "That was the echo." Received from Pastor Tim. Apartment Block Problems!
Every so often we get called to oversee a client who has assumed that it’s quite a simple matter to call on someone like me who can offer a wealth of experience on television reception and usually that means they require U.K.T.V. Sometimes we strike ‘Gold’, having checked out with the Powers who decide what is possible, and find a satellite dish is allowed on the roof. The next problem is how to get suitable cable/s down to an apartment on the second floor or worse, the ground floor. Sometimes the parties concerned allow you to drop a cable down the side of the building and all you have to do is race down floor by floor, getting each apartment holder’s permission to hang out of their Balcony and pin the cable to the wall. It can be very tricky and a lot of tact is required if the owner is about!
At this stage you can get a complete refusal and the only method is to run cables/s through the existing tubing floor
by floor, that is very time consuming and just occasionally you cannot find a route. The usual reason, plenty of cables at some point and no room for any more. It does happen and everyone looses out. Not quite though, read on…
As in the U.K. there are various cable systems available, some privately owned, and some use the facilities on offer from the Telephone line. Now Movistar do have the whip hand on these things as they seem to be the master of the situation and have done deals with many other companies on a shared basis, everyone wins! We have to face facts that I and others simply having tried many various routes have to call it a draw and suggest the client consider using their telephone line as the basis for TV reception. It cannot quite match all of the criteria that your own satellite dish can provide, however, technology marches on and I think it has a very bright future, there may even become a time when it becomes the system ‘norm’! Recently I have completed two site visits and have viewed the results and must say they have delivered good quality sound and vision and to a person who has been advised that all other systems are impossible to function, this is a solution!
If you live in a Community of Horizontal Owners, we will see if there are problems, and come up with the answers, IN SPANISH, for YOU to submit to the President or Administrator.

Jávea Jeard Hello Folks,
August/September 2014, Nº 16 Page 11
Well we all knew that one day we would retire (for the second time) and indeed we stopped holding classes, at the Art Centre Javea on 10th July. Lorely is 65 and Glyn is 71. We opened the Art Centre in 2002 so it has been open now for 12 years. We have really enjoyed running it and have made so many great friends. Quite a few of you have been coming every week for the whole 12 years. We told one of you, a good friend, yesterday and she burst into tears. This upset us too as we realise what a gap this might leave in all our lives. We have lots of things we would like to do that we seem not to have had time for. We have photographs from the last 30 years still in shoe boxes that need sorting and putting in albums. Glyn wants to spend time on his model railway and will move it from the engine room into studio one. He has also joined the railway group and an astronomy group. Lorely has joined a genealogy group but hasn’t had the time to do any research. Glyn enjoys the garden and will spend more time pottering. Lorely has always been interested in antiques and will spend more time trading on eBay. Lorely’s Mum, Gill is 92 and we would like to spend more day time together as a family. There will also be more day trips in the future that we could go on. We also want to take Gill on a cruise back to Naples in Italy, she

drove a 5 ton supply truck up and down Italy at the end of the war. Lorely also enjoys porcelain restoration, so Monday mornings will remain a restoration class. We will also continue to do valuations of antiques and collectables to raise money for the charity ‘HELP’ on a Monday morning where the public can bring items for advice. The charge is €3 per item or set and all the money goes to ‘HELP’. It is easier for the group of experts on a Monday to do this, rather than having a yearly Antiques Roadshow. The queues were long and we didn’t have time to talk to people in depth about their objects. We will still have an ‘Arty Farty Garden Party’ this year. It will be an opportunity for us all to get together again. Put it in your diary, Saturday 11th October, lunchtime at 1pm. We will send out invites and reminders nearer the time. I’m sure we will all keep in touch one way or another, we are only a ‘phone call away. With love and warmest wishes Lorely and Glyn.

Aquifers "at their limit" in many parts of Spain
The "New Water Culture Foundation" (Fundación Nueva Cultura del Agua) has criticised the excessive use of water in productive processes, noting particularly agriculture which uses up to 80% of the country's water resources. They point out that water is being extracted from aquifers faster than it is being recharged, and that it "is necessary to change the current view of water policy in Spain," which considers only servicing of production and economic development in the short term, because "little attention is paid to the recovery of the status of aquatic ecosystems and sustainable management to ensure sufficient water quality in the future.”

Everything you need to survive the Spanish Health Service - for 6,50€
The Health Service in Spain is every bit as good - and many say MUCH better than in the UK, but no matter the level of professionalism and skill of the doctor or nursing staff - if you don’t speak Spanish, ‘Murphy’s Law’ says those who care for you will not understand English or Spanglish. What they DO understand on the Costa Blanca, and instantly recognise, is the Booklet “Tell the Doctor” which lists all the words and phrases you are likely to need during your visit to the Health Centre or Hospital. The book is NOT intended to replace a competent Interpreter for those visits when accuracy and understanding are essential. Originally compiled by Jenny Bussey, founder of Jalon Valley HELP, copies can be obtained from the OASIS HELP CENTRE, C/. Toni Llido 5 (at the rear of La Caixa bank in the Port) for 6,50€ a copy. Tell the Doctor is also published in French and German, but the OASIS generally only stocks the (blue covered) English edition.

|One animal dumped in Spain every three minutes, reveals bestselling author and petitionstarter
Spain has the worst record in Europe for pets being abandoned, with one animal dumped every three minutes. Author and journalist Rosa Montero has brought this to the public's attention and started a petition on campaign site Avaaz calling for tougher legislation on cruelty and neglect of animals, given that at present, pet protection laws are within the jurisdiction of regional governments, meaning there are 17 different ones in place and not all of them are suitably effective.
Police point for Tourists set up on the Port
A special office to help tourists who have become victims of crime or who have committed offences has been established in Jávea Port. The idea is to offer assistance to foreigners in their own language, and give them advice on what to do e.g. following the theft of cards and documents etc. The "Servicio de Atención al Turista Extranjero" (SATE) will be in the Police office next to the Tourist office and will be open at the same times as the Tourist Office, so as to be able to use the support of translators there. Xàbia joins Alfaz, Orihuela and Finestrat in having such an office.
Fire breaks out on the Cumbres del Sol
A fire broke out on the Cumbres del Sol at noon on Wednesday 23rd July. By 3.00pm it had reached the peak of the Puig Llorença and 40 people had been evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure. The fire was eventually controlled by ground and air firefighters, and the area was watered overnight to ensure it was extinguished. The fire seems to have started through negligence by sparks from a circular saw. Much of the limited green zone on the Cumbres was burned. The Photogallery on Las Provincias shows dramatic pictures of the area.
Spain's protected areas for Marine birds multiplied by 20
New protection area area off the Cabo de la Nao declared The Spanish Government has declared 39 new marine ZEPAs (Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves special protection zones for birds). Among these is an area off the Cabo de la Nao, the "Plataforma-talud marinos
del cabo de la Nao" described thus: Surface: 2681,10 km. Description: Large Marine area located opposite the Cabo de la Nao in the Ibiza channel . Runs parallel to the coast between Cullera and Alicante and its closest point to land is the Cabo de la Nao 3 km to the west. It is an area of high productivity, suitable for spawning stocks of small pelagic fish. It represents one of the main feeding areas of the balearic shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus), during the breeding season. It is also the second most important feeding area for the European storm petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) while reproducing in the Spanish Mediterranean. Audouin's Gull (Larus audouinii) also appears in significant numbers in the breeding season, as well as Cory's shearwater (Calonectris diomedea). The Balearic Shearwater is equally common in the area during the autumn and winter months.

In addition CO2 emissions will be reduced by 300 tonnes per annum, and the noise from the pumping station significantly reduced. The Mayor of Benitachell, Josep Femenia was present at the inauguration as Jávea supplies water to the neighbouring town.
Souvenirs of the Lambert exhibition
Fundación Cirne has produced a collection of 10 postcards featuring the drawings of André Lambert depicting Jávea at the beginning of the 20th Century. These are on sale in the three areas housing a large exhibition on the Lambert family (Casa del Cable, Casa de Tena and Museu de Xàbia), and tourist offices, for 5 Euros. People who buy these or a copy of the catalogue of the exhibition will receive as a little gift ( from Amjasa) a facsimile of the article, an "epistle" which Lambert's son wrote for the cultural journal "Janus". The original was written in Latin, but has been translated into Castilian and Valenciano. It contains his relections on Jávea, its history, geography, culture and peoples. etc.
"Before I die" initiative comes to Xàbia Port On Wednesday 30th July, a board was installed in the port area with a single

purpose: that everyone passing by will write on it what they would like to do with their life before they die. Developed by Lifestrong Coachings, the wall has the support of the town with Councillor Juan Luis Cardona inviting people to "stop for a moment to think about what you want to do with life and what your dreams are". The group, which is made up from coaches in the area, propose Jávea be the entry point for the social campaign into the Comunidad Valenciana. Representatives Marián Martínez and Jordi Vilanova said that the urban activity is aimed at improving communication between people who are aware of the transient nature of life and live this life more thoroughly by considering their hopes and dreams as possible challenges.
Inside San Antonio Lighthouse
Given the controversial proposal to convert the San Antonio Lighthouse into a hotel (see item, July 2nd below) . Jávea resident Santi Thevenet (tvnet.es) persuaded the lighthouse keeper to open the doors so he could make a short video. It can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/100784212
Townhall wants outpatient station at the Arenal for the summer
Mayor Chulvi has asked Marina Salud, the company which runs Denia hospital and regional health care, and has a shortage of staff during the summer, with only 18% of the staff on holiday being replaced, despite the huge influx of visitors to this area. He demanded sufficient resources should be made available for basic health care, via the provision of sufficient staff, and the setting-up of a summer outpatients station at the Arenal. The Mayor complained that the Valencian government "…says that tourism is the main source of revenue in the region and yet is not aware that safety is one of the factors weighed up when choosing a holiday destination.' Calpe and Denia have beach-side summer clinics, yet Xàbia which provides a lot of the revenue for Marina Salud, does not.
Only one company bids for Canal de la Fontana management
The Valencia Government has received only one bid for the management of the Canal de la Fontana. The name of the company has not been disclosed, since the bid must follow the same procedure as if there had been 20. i.e. checking that the documentation is correct and the bid correctly valued. cooperation between the organisers of fiestas, the public and drivers when fiestas were celebrated. The narrow, cobbled streets of the inner ring road have certainly worsened the situation. Vicente (Compromis) referred to grants to several towns in the region, including Jávea, but the regional government failed to itemise which school should be the recipient. IES Nº 1 needs money spending on fixing the roof where rainwater has entered and pieces of ceiling had come loose. The decision by the regional government to create a Hotel using the buildings of San Antonio lighthouse, were criticised because Jávea had not been consulted, the decision made by Portuaria. Councillors agreed it was totally unacceptable when nearby properties were forced to abide by local regulations.
Public Questions A member of the public asked about Jávea Park Civic Centre, which had cost 65,000€ to establish and wanted to know how the decision to create it was made, and where the accounts could be examined. It was claimed that Jávea Townhall had abandoned Jávea Park, both the private and publicly owned areas. Alcalde Chulvi explained the Centre was established as a place where questions could be answered. The amount of dog excreta in Jávea streets was unacceptable, and it was suggested the owners be fined - but few dogs have identity discs or are chipped so their owners can be traced. In any case, the dog would need to be ‘arrested’ and the evidence collected. “It were not my dog that dunnit” would be the normal reply. When Tony Cabban was responsible for ‘services’ he arranged for members of the ‘Blue Brigade’ to keep the pavements of Jávea clean. It was claimed that streets in the centre of the Old Town and the Montañar were the worst affected - two areas where tourists were encouraged to visit and spend their money.

It was claimed that there were no night patrols by police in the Old Town as all those on street patrol were assigned to the Arenal, Port and Beach. There was confusion as to whether ‘Paseo David Ferrer’ is a pedestrian facility or not, as cyclists, roller-bladers, skate-boarders and scooter users were a particular annoyance at night. No one had thought of imposing a speed limit and would it affect joggers? It was alleged that the driver of the beach cleaning unit drives so close to the wall that damage is being caused. This was not a monthly meeting that will remain in our memories for what Councillors said or members of the public learned. CR
October 9th Award winners 2014
Following the July monthly meeting of Jávea Councillors, we received notification from the Press Office that La Romantica of Salt Marsh and Antonio Erades would receive the 9th October 2014 Vila de Jávea awards, made annually since 1996. The Townhall unanimously supported the recognition of Antonio Bou Erades in the solidarity section for "complacent and great bonhomie and in recognition of his charity work on behalf of the elderly and disadvantaged. Antonio Erades brings joy and happy moments to everybody who hears his voice of the strings of his guitar.” Also, "for their willingness to participate in all charitable events and festivals over many years, always with generous collaboration." The award for Civic Values will be presented to the musical group Romantica Alternative Saladar, founded in Jávea in 1994 and popularly known as the RAS. The City Council wants to promote the dissemination of traditional root music and to re-popularise genuine singing and dancing of Valencia and the Valencian (Albades, Havana, Polques, Valsos, pasodobles) forms, and also for work on the recovery of the popular expression of the people and help in various cultural initiatives of the City, especially Jávea Folk festival.
On a Different Note
Councillors recognised the everchanging boundary imposed by the regional government, applying to the Mediterranean Sea where it approached Jávea. The major change affects the area between the port of Javea and Cala de Fora. Town Planner, Pere Sapena, said Consistory boundaries are marked on the promenade of La Grava and south parking Arenal. They also believe the Ministry's decision to leave the grounds of the National Parador private are in

contrast to the hotel's own facilities and farm called the Punta del Arenal, which "seems an error or inconsistency" . Another issue approved was the inclusion of the municipal contribution to the roofing project and lighting of riu rau d'Arnauda (the work has a cost of 84,539 euros and a grant from the Valencian Agency of Tourism 50%) and the balance from Jávea Townhall cash reserves. In terms of motions, Councillor for Education, Empar Bolufer, submitted a text to support schools in the municipality, whose teachers and especially the IES Antoni Llidó for defending public education and quality, calling on the Department of Education to extend their offer training courses and that they respond to unanswered requests since 2001. The mMyor felt that this secondary centre of Jávea has become a "real concern" and regards us as "one of the great forgotten the Consell" whom he accused of "disrespect, abuse and blocking any initiative that benefits the students' reality and causing discomfort in our school community.” The motion was approved unanimously by all political parties.

(but men are welcome)
Pets - both a blessing and a burden
Three years ago our son Peter was asked to give a home to 'Doogie', a 17 year old dog when the owner wasn't able to keep him anymore. Doogie was a sweet little dog but he was very insecure and in the first few months wouldn't let Peter out of his sight. If he was left in the car or in the house for a short time, by the time Peter had returned, Doogie had barked all the time Peter was away and had got himself into a terrible state.
When Clive, Peter and I established the Oasis Centre in the Port area of Jávea, Doogie came each morning and spent his time, mainly sleeping in his bed next to Peter's desk. I was Doogie's carer and would take him for his walks or prepare his meals. Gradually Doogie became used to Clive and I looking after him

by Ann Read after a 5-year ‘rest’
and soon Peter was able to leave him with us overnight or for a few days. The children that came into the Oasis Centre with their Mums to choose cards would sit and stroke him while Mum was busy.
We all loved him and he became one of our family. He was an undemanding dog, quite happy to stay in his bed while we were all busy in the Oasis but he loved his walk round the block each morning, sniffing all the lovely smells that other dogs had left. About six weeks ago we noticed that he had lost interest in life and wasn't even interested in going for a walk unless he desperately needed to relieve himself. He was eating two good meals a day but seemed to be losing weight. The next thing we noticed was that he had difficulty standing and walking and when I took him for his walk round the block, about half way round I ended up
Five weeks ago Peter took Doogie to a Jávea vet who examined a lump he had on his foot and told Peter to bathe the sore with an antiseptic, but it didn't seem to be helping at all and in the end we put baby socks on his foot to stop him from licking it all the time and making it bleed.
Two weeks ago, we had a family conference and Peter said he was considering having Doogie put to sleep as he seemed so unhappy with life. As Peter lived in Vergel, Clive suggested he take him to see the vet we always used when we had pets, who had a surgery in Vergel. We always found her so caring and we used her for many years until our last dog died twelve years ago. So that afternoon Peter took Doogie to see the vet and she gave him a thorough examination, and said that the reason he was so thin, even though he was eating big meals, was that his liver was huge and was absorbing all the food before any of the goodness could be taken into his body. He also had an irregular heart condition and she said that she hated to say it but confirmed that the responsible decision to make was to put him to sleep.

42 tons of used clothing collected in Jávea in first 6 months of this year
The non-government organisation (NGO) 'Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo' has been working since 1987 to promote environmental protection and initiate co-operation programmes in Africa, Latin America and Asia as well as Social Assistance in Spain, thanks to the resources obtained through the management of used clothing. In the first half of this year, Humana collected 41,932 kilograms - almost 42 metric tons - from the special containers in Jávea.

Improvistos is a project to revitalize the run-down Orba neighbourhood in Alfafar. Improvisto’s project is based on the principle of cohousing, an approach that is popular in Scandinavia, where communities consist of private homes with shared facilities, and where residents play an active role in how the community is designed and managed. Most local residents seem to be largely unaware of the proposals to revitalize their neighborhood. Local media have hardly covered the UNHabitat prize, and the local town hall has yet to comment officially.
Emergency exit from Granadella cleared
Jávea’s Environmental protection brigade has cleared the Calle Pic Tort, Granadella. This road was previously signed as a dead end, but in fact it led to the urbanisation above. Though the surface is not perfect, it serves as an emergency exit from Granadella. The Brigade - comprised of 15 previously unemployed people, is scheduled to clear 102,015 linear metres of roadside, barrancos and water courses throughout the municipality in maintenance and fire prevention measures - a particularly important function in this extrememly dry year. This brigade will work until September 30th, then another brigade of 15 will work until the end of the year. From XAD. El Ayuntamiento...
Spain’s new generation of leaders
They are well educated, media savvy, and have avoided playing the same blame-game approach to politics as their elders. The European elections, which produced surprises such as the appearance of Podemos, seem to have marked a watershed in Spanish politics. The Socialist Party and the United Left have begun a renewal process that will see veterans such as Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba (about to celebrate his 63rd birthday) and Cayo Lara (62) respectively step down. The abdication of King Juan Carlos after almost four decades on the throne has deepened the feeling of a generational handover. By the time of next year’s general election the leader of the Socialist Party will be in their forties, whether it is Madina, Sánchez, former defense minister Carme Chacón, or even Andalusian premier Susana Díaz; while the United Left will likely be led by Garzón, with 35-year-old Iglesias at the helm of Podemos, and Rivera, aged 34, heading Ciutadans.

IMF doubles 2014 growth forecast for Spain in just six months
In the space of six months, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has changed its 2014 growth forecast for Spain significantly: from 0.6% to 1.2%. The report insists that “Spain’s overarching policy priority must be to ensure the recovery is strong, longlasting, and most pressingly, job-rich.” The IMF also joined other organisations such as the OECD in warning about the increase in inequality in Spain and the risk of social exclusion for growing numbers of people, even those with a job. According to IMF figures, the four million people who have lost their jobs since 2007 have lost 50% of their income on average.
EU takes Spain to court for ‘poor waste management’
The European Commission is taking Spain to court for breaching two environmental legislations. Despite earlier warnings, a number of landfills “are still operating in breach of EU legislation,” the Commission said. It added that almost five years after the final deadline for closure of landfill sites, 28 non-compliant sites have not been closed and three others “still need to be brought up to the required standards.” The Landfill Directive lays down standards to protect human health and the environment from the negative effects caused by the collection, transport, storage, treatment and disposal of waste. The second case concerns a high-speed rail link under construction, for which “no adequate environmental impact assessment was carried out”, the Commission said. It stated: “In an effort to urge Spain to rectify these matters, the Commission is taking Spain to the EU Court of Justice on the recommendation of Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik.” From :Energylive news.

Given the bond most of us share with our animals, it's natural to feel devastated by feelings of grief and sadness when a pet dies. Many people who have never had a pet cannot understand the depth of feeling we have for our pets. For many people a pet is not "just a dog" or "just a cat". Pets are beloved members of our family and when they die, it's like losing one of our close family members.
Everyone grieves differently. Grieving is a personal and highly individual experience. Some people find grief comes in stages, where they experience different feelings, such as denial, anger, guilt, depression and eventually acceptance. Others find that the grieving period is shorter but a special anniversary or something that triggers a memory can bring the feeling of loss back.
When Roger, the first dog Clive and I had became ill and died, I grieved for two weeks. I was working as an office supervisor in a printers and it was very embarrassing when I think back, that I could be talking to a customer and suddenly burst into tears. I vowed I would never have another dog, I couldn't go through the pain of losing another dog again.
Three months later, Clive who worked at the same printers was asked by our business partner if Clive could take the typesetting machine back to our home and work from there as space was a premium and the new machine was taking up too much space.
On the day that Clive moved with the machine back to our home, he disappeared at lunch time and didn't say where he was going. He appeared an hour later with the most beautiful golden labrador that he’d just collected from the PDSA animal shelter. His name was Rusty and I immediately fell in love with him. Clive said he arrived at the animal shelter and when he had filled in all the appropriate forms, he was taken into an exercise yard and told to wait. He was expecting to be shown dozens of dogs in pens and asked to choose one. But no! The young assistant appeared with Rusty on a lead which she handed to Clive with the words, "Rusty, go for a walk with Mr. Read and see if you like him!" When Clive agreed to take Rusty home for a trial period he asked why he hadn't been given a choice of dogs. The assistant explained that the shelter had been waiting for several months for a suitable home for Rusty, one with a large garden so he would have plenty of space to exercise. Rusty had been in the animal shelter for about six months and was a firm favourite with the staff, they all loved him. The shelter had a policy of

putting a dog to sleep after a specified time if he/she hadn't found a home but the staff hadn't got the heart to put Rusty to sleep because he was such a lovely dog and he had been very badly mistreated in a previous home. So when his waiting time was up and he was due to be put to sleep, he was smuggled into another pen, given another name and kept there until his time was up again, and this went on until Clive turned up.
Rusty was a wonderful dog and quickly adapted to life with us. He used to wait in the garden each morning for the postwoman to turn up and run to the gate to meet her. She would put the mail into Rusty's mouth and he proudly brought it to us in the house. Eventually he fathered a litter of puppies and we were given the choice of the litter. I picked the runt who was so small he wasn't able to feed because all the other stronger puppies pushed him out of the way. We called him Snowie even though he was jet black apart from a white tip on his tail. When we went to collect him when he was six weeks old, we took Rusty with us in the car and on the way home I sat with Rusty and the new puppy in the back seat and Rusty licked Snowie all over as if to say, you are mine and I am putting my scent on you. They were good friends but when he got older, Snowie was definitely the topdog, even though he was the younger of the two. Unfortunately, when Snowie was a young puppy he was hurt by a gang of boys while he was playing in our large garden. They broke his tail in three places and the only thing the vet could do was to take the tail off. So we were left with a totally black dog called "Snowie". When we moved into Ivy Lodge, our home for the elderly, both the dogs

became part of our extended family. Our County Council supervisor Steve Wright would turn up for an unscheduled visit and nearly have a heart attack. The main lounge would be full of elderly residents sitting in reclining chairs, our two grandchildren Anna (six months old) and Jamie (2 years) playing on the floor and Rusty and Snowie being petted and stroked by the residents. Steve was not amused and would say to us "Why can't you act like all the rest of the homes, it's like a zoo in here with animals and babies! Get them out of here, I can have you closed down you know!" We didn't take any notice of him and our dogs and grandchildren still carried on as usual, the two dogs followed us everywhere we went. We eventually sold Ivy Lodge and moved to Jávea in 1985. I can well remember the day we had to say goodbye to all our extended family, there were a lot of tears but we were excited at the prospect of life in another country. So on 18th November 1985, we loaded the car with the last of our possessions, put the two dogs in the back seat on blankets and off we went. We drove down to Plymouth where we stayed at an animal friendly bed and breakfast and next morning caught the ferry to Santander. Both our dogs loved our new home in Jávea, we had 5,000 square metres of land so they had plenty of space to explore. I have such lovely memories of our life together, memories are so important as we get older.
Doogie When Ben our last dog died twelve years ago, we decided that because of our lifestyle and work commitments, not to get another dog. But Doogie coming into our life, even if it was only for three years, has been a real bonus, and we still get the pleasure of other people's dogs when their owners bring them into the Oasis Centre.

Jávea Jeard August/September 2014, Nº 16 Page 21 REFERENDUM - Scotland or Cataluña on your mind
No one knows the effect of voters in Scotland deciding to disunite the United Kingdom and Westminster politicians are threatening loss of the £ - but accept them now if issued by Scottish Banks like the Clydesdale. But the vote by Catalans might have more far-reaching effects on us Brits on the Costa Blanca, Alec Salmond and the result after voting on Thursday 18th September may be in our thoughts, but it is another referendum planned for 9th November as the Catalans for seek their own independence from Spain.
The last Catalan leader to try to proclaim the existence of a Catalan state, Lluis Companys, did so in October 1934, 80 years ago this year, against: “monarchist and fascist forces who mean to betray the Republic”. It was, he said: “a grave and glorious hour” for Catalans.
The Spanish prime minister at the time, Lerroux, ordered the Captain General of Catalonia, Batet, to declare a state of war in the region and quash the rebellion, which he did with his edict. His forces surrounded the Catalan government building, the Generalitat, and stormed it. Artillery pieces and machine guns were brought out onto the streets of Barcelona, and 46 people were killed.
That version of Catalonia lasted just ten or eleven hours after the Mossos, the Catalan police force, surrendered to the Spanish Army and Civil Guard. Companys and the members of his government were all arrested and imprisoned initially on a boat called the Uruguay to await trial. The Catalan parliament was closed, a civil governor appointed by Madrid and the Catalan Statute revoked.
Companys and his ministers were sentenced to 30 years in jail for the crime of rebellion, but were pardoned after the Popular Front won the general elections in February 1936, five months before the start of the Civil War.
Contemporary supporters of the independence of Catalonia insist that violent confrontation is not and never will be part of their secession narrative or activities and hope that Madrid will somehow just hand over the keys to the castell if they can achieve some kind of majority in a vote that, in Madrid’s eyes, will always be illegal.
But the crime of rebellion still exists in the 1995 Spanish criminal code. Article 472.5 is quite clear that the legal definition of rebellion includes: “declaring the independence of a part of the national territory”, and article 476 is very specific about the legal duty of Spanish military officers to use “the
means at their disposal” to quash any attempt at rebellion “with forces under their orders”.
The longest jail sentences the leaders of such a rebellion could expect to receive nowadays are not very far short of those handed down to Mr. Companys and his ministers: 15 to 25 years in prison.
Observers may add these legal notes to Mr. Rajoy’s constitutional defence of the rejection of any vote on a referendum, the overwhelming parliamentary vote against the request in April, and this week’s declarations by Pedro Sánchez, the new leader of the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE), who said the consultation could not take place because it is illegal.
For the past two years, since Diada Day in 2012 and Mr. Mas’s meeting with Mr. Rajoy shortly thereafter, Spaniards have expended much time and energy contemplating the different future outcomes for the Catalan question.
Politically, Mr. Rajoy and the governing Popular Party have been unwise to employ the arrogance and contempt they have shown towards supporters of Catalan independence, whilst Mr. Mas and Catalan politicians have spent two years egging on Catalan voters with dreams of peacefully and democratically redrawing the map of Spain for the first time in 300 years.
The balance of most forms of real power—legal, political, police, military, etc—currently weighs in Mr. Rajoy’s favour. Independence fans claim social power and majority citizen support for a vote on secession but Catalan voices against secession have grown in number of late, and unless supporters of independence are willing to actually fight against those other forms of real power in some more rebellious way, it is difficult to see how they can win any extra-legal political conflict.
The economic question is more of a double-edge sword. The stakes are massive, 19% of Spanish GDP and 26% of Spanish exports, contagion in the Basque Country—but the very size of the Catalan economy mean it is systemically important within Spain, as is Spain within Europe. Mr. Junqueras, the leader of Catalan Republican Left (ERC), hinted at this way of raising the stakes in global financial markets in a recent interview with Bloomberg.
No one knows how this will play out, if Mr. Mas will succeed in holding the Catalan vote on November 9, or whether Mr. Rajoy will attempt to enforce Spanish law slightly more energetically over the coming months, but the closer Spain gets to that autumn day, the more the complexities of the real world will take us deeper into unknown and unknowable political territory in Spain, and all of the scenarios will unfold within today’s highly-connected, high-speed 21stCentury world.
What happens when Mr. Rajoy orders the Civil Guard to uphold the law in Catalonia and Mr. Mas orders the Mossos to defend his government’s position? Bond yields could begin to spike quite dramatically towards the start of November. Sourced from The Spain Report
Australian Love Poem
Of course I love ya darlin You're a bloody top-notch bird And when I say you're gorgeous I mean every single word. So ya bum is on the big side I don't mind a bit of flab It means that when I'm ready There's somethin' there to grab. So your belly isn't flat no more I tell ya, I don't care So long as when I cuddle ya I can get my arms round there. No Sheila who is your age Has nice round perky breasts They just gave in to gravity But I know ya did ya best.
I'm tellin' ya the truth now I never tell ya lies I think it’s very sexy That you've got dimples on ya thighs. I swear on me nanna's grave now The moment that we met I thought you was as good as I was ever gonna ge.
No matter what u look like I'll always love ya dear Now shut up while the cricket’s on And fetch another beer.
Brings a lump to your throat doesn't it?

BURY US IN BOTTLE-TOPS
Javea, Benitachell, Calpe etc. collected enough tops to buy Noa a new wheelchair and I believe - also - a hoist. We need many tops to make a difference to Noa’s life, as the Company that processes the tops only give a little per kilo of tops. Not only that, the Spanish Government has reduced her disability payments. It is not just plastic tops from water, juices and milk (by the way you can lift the plastic from the cartons of milk and juices, which gives us almost double the amount in weight). There are many tops from cosmetic and

Hello, My name is Krystyna Stefanczyk and I came to collect the bottle tops for Noa. I am collecting with Jávea U3A where you got in touch with Steven Burke the President. I do hope you can include the photo of Noa, which will provide a REAL link between the bottle tops and a recipient of some of the money raised. Noa is about 9 years old now, but when she was about 4 years old she was misdiagnosed by the National Health Service here in Spain and sent home several times with a temperature, when she actually had meningitis. She suffers from all sorts of illnesses now and was severally brain damaged. She lives in Calpe, but her grandparents to whom I give my collected tops live here in Javea. Medical research
It was as late as the 17th and 18th centuries that serious documentation of research into the workings of the human body began to be undertaken. How such bodies were obtained for research is debatable and questionable in the law of the time, but the work was the foundation for many of today’s textbooks and on-going research. The latter part of the 20th century saw legislation introduced for the provision of human remains for research purposes, and most countries developed schemes whereby people could properly arrange the donation of their bodies, after death, to a teaching establishment.
The law in Spain
Only the donor can offer his or her body for teaching purposes. You cannot offer both your whole body and individual organs. You have to choose between the two. WALKING ON THE GRASS
The room was full of pregnant women with their husbands. The midwife said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on a soft surface like grass or a path. "Gentlemen, remember - you're in this together. It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her. In fact, that shared experience would be good for you both." The room suddenly became very quiet as the men absorbed this information. After a few moments a man, name unknown, at the back of the room, slowly raised his hand. "Yes?" said the midwife. "I was just wondering if it would be alright if she carries a golf bag while we walk?" Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it? This kind of sensitivity just can't be taught. from Ian Thomas

DONATING YOUR BODY Continued from page 23
autopsy - so what happens then? Your survivors will want a Thanksgiving Service and what happens nexrt depends on whether ‘Plan B’ is a cremation with the ashes in a niche, or the coffin itself placed in a niche.
If the donation is accepted there will be no ‘remains’ to cremate and/or bury, and therefore the ‘normal’ funeral procedure is changed. This has to be discussed in advance with those who care, so that they know and understand the wishes of the donor, and are properly prepared. There is no reason why some form of memorial service cannot be held to give thanks for the life of the donor.
The procedure Once the above is clear to all concerned, the donor can apply to the local teaching establishments Departmento de Histologia y Anatomia Facultad de Medicina Universidad Miguel Hernandez Ctra. Alicante – Valencia s/n 03550 San Juan de Alicante Tel: 96 591 9434 (in Spanish)
The donor will receive self-duplicating forms in Spanish together with a letter, possibly in English. The forms should be completed, witnessed by a friend or neighbour, and signed. The top copies should then be returned to the above address.
August/September 2014, Nº 16
The final correspondence will be a letter of thanks with contact telephone numbers. These are for contact purposes at the time of death and should be given to those who will act at this time for the donor. They will contact the establishment via the numbers provided, whereupon the donor's body will be collected and taken to the establishment.
Here, for obvious reasons, the body becomes a number, and passes through a preparation process before being accepted in the teaching areas.
There will come a time when the remains will no longer be of benefit for teaching purposes. They will then resume their proper identity, be taken reverently to a local crematorium, cremated and the ashes strewn on hallowed ground.
Finally
If it is required that the ashes be returned to the family, this must be made clear when the donation papers are being completed, as they cannot be asked for by the family later. The only costs in donation are those incurred in postage and telephone calls. The teaching establishment is responsible from collection of the remains through to cremation.
Page 25
We recognise this is a serious and emotive subject, and recommend that those considering donation fully consult with family, friends, etc., and ensure that their wishes are accurately made known. We also gratefully acknowledge the help and assistance of Lionel Sharpe and Keth Wilman, who have been friends of Ann and I since 1989. Some additions by CR.

Reorganisation of the ISVH Bomberos Balcon Al Mar
A combination of events since the middle of last year has seen the size of our trained crew fall to about half of our normal numbers. These changes include the recent resignation of the Commandant who found that trying to balance the priorities of running a business with the many hours required of him to be an effective Commandant too difficult to manage. The proper organisation and safety of the crew always comes first and so for a short time we have been unable to manage fire call-outs and the service was briefly suspended. However S ren Meilick, with many years of fire fighting experience with us, has stepped forward as our new leader and was formally appointed on Monday 28th July. This will enable the ISVH Bomberos to be readily available to fight fires in the Balcon al Mar area during this, our highest fire risk time of the year. Thankfully this means that for the ISVH Bomberos it will be business as usual for the next few weeks. One of our current priorities is to recruit and train new ISVH Bomberos so as to rebuild the team to the preferred operational levels we have enjoyed in the past. With this in mind we look forward to hearing from anyone who might be interested in joining us. Russell Klopper ISVH Bomberos Vice President

RIP-OFF GAS MEN
Gas Inspectors now ring in advance to arrange an appointment in order to allay suspicion that they are crooks. Here is a typical example of what can occur. "Yesterday I received a telephone call from an "engineer" saying our gas system needed its 5 Year check. He gave our name and address - although I should have twigged that the name was the one shown in the Phone Book. I arranged for them to come at 3pm. Before this, we phoned the gas company who said they knew nothing about it and they wouldn't phone in the morning for an afternoon appointment! Two guys duly arrived at 4.30 but we were ready for them. I took a photo of them plus their "unmarked" car and toldthem to go away! One of the men didn't say a word and the other was getting quite abusive. We immediately went to the Police Station and showed them the photos. They explained that they were not "illegal" but could come to your house, look at the gas tank, then charge you an extortionate amount of money for repairs!!!! The police said we are under NO obligation to allow anyone into our property. Looks as if the onus is on the unsuspecting client......... We gave the police details of the vehicle but don't know if they will contact the owner of the car. Please tell your friends about this ‘scam’ to prevent others from paying much more than any inspection and replacement parts are worth, Check what sort of vehicle they are in.

SUNDAY CAN BE SUCH A BORING DAY
But not if you start it at the 11am Morning Service at the Oasis Help Centre, which is as much ‘an entertainment’ as a ‘spiritual experience’, whether it is Clive or Ann who has responsibility as the MC and preacher. Every Sunday morning is different with refreshments afterwards and many go on to various nearby or Pedgreguer ‘eateries” and find that new friendships and eternal destinies have been carved. If you need a ‘helping hand’ because we are ALL shy of new demands on our emotions - phone Ann on 669 386 701 or Clive on 669 386 702 and they will arrange for someone (or one of them) to meet you and act as your ‘buddy’. Jávea Evangelical Church was established in 1992, now meets at the OASIS Help Centre it has created in the street belind LA CAIXA bank in the Port, where it offers 30,000 greeting cards for all occasions for 1€ each, as well as a huge range of print facilities, including one-off 4-colour T and polo shirts.
