Welcome to PARADISE

61st Anniversary Remembrance Against a mountain backdrop, not disimilar in shape to the Montgó that claimed their lives in 1950, Wing Commander Jim Holland, the RAF Station Commander at Gibraltar, placed a commemorative RAF wreath among the memorial graves of the seven dead airmen, who all died in the 5th December tragedy. Wing Commander Holland was accompanied to the North Front Cemetery in Gibraltar on 5th December 2011, by Lt Col (Ret’d) Stuart Green, who recorded the visit for our readers, and reflected that the 19-year-olds at the time of the crash, Air Craftsmen 1st class Neville Jones from Merthyr Tydfil, Roy Owen Ouseley from Shawbury and Peter Field Thorne from Oswestry, would now only be 6 months into their 80s. Parador Parking Fiasco

Dia wish you a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR

Jávea Town Hall has been ordered by the Coastal Department in Madrid, to prohibit illegal parking of cars on the beach adjoining Jávea Parador and at Granadella. Many users of the Parador have expressed alarm - guests have secure parking on the other side of coast road - but there is good news. Jávea will erect signs but the municipal police will NOT be issuing fines, as the paperwork is the responsibility of the Coasts Department in Madrid, according to a Jávea Townhall spokesperson. The alarm was raised after a coastal aerial survey revealed that cars - 3 deep -

were parked close to the Parador hotel, with the risk (according to Madrid) of cars and their occupants being washed out-to-sea in bad weather. Parking of cars will only be prohibited between the Parador and the position of the second chiringuito ‘beach bar’. It must be coincidence, but effectively removes clients from parking in the region of the FIRST beach bar - which was owned (not sure if it still is?) by the son of former Nueva Jávea councillor, Anna Vasbinder. Surely, politics in Spain couldn’t be that petty or vindictive - could it?

THE PUEBLO or Old Town

THE PORT or Aduanas

With the Gothic Parish Church of St. Bartolome at its centre, the narrow streets remind us they were designed with horse and cart in mind. Wooden front doors open on the street, behind which is a labrinth of rooms and an inner courtyard where livestock were housed. Many properties have been converted into shops and intimate cafés, each with its own tapas to match the atmosphere. It might look boring but the ‘Old Town’ is always fresh, and delivers on promise.

A reminder to everyone that Jávea was - and still is - an important fishing port, proven by the number of refrigerated vehicles that make their way there from places as far away as Malaga. Fuel tax and EU quotas are strangling those who fish, in the same way as few now harvest oranges and other crops that are left to rot. You’ll discover something new with every visit to the Port - and the ‘Fisherman’s Church’ always impresses.

Agenda 21 For 7 years, residents of Jávea have met with Councillors and Town Hall employees to discuss the relationship between Construction, Tourism and Environment. It was always going to be a difficult road, with jobs for Javienses (those born in Jávea) always being more important than ‘green’ issues. You can follow Agenda 21 news at: http://tinyurl.com/5tn2ugg Agents Agents are intermediaries, motivated to make enough money to keep them in business - like anyone else. Never buy - whether or not an Agent is involved without making your own ‘independent’ enquiries (at the Town Hall or from neighbours). Better you lose your dream home - because the Agent may tell you he has another keen buyer - than you lose all your money. Air Conditioning Summers in Jávea are unbearable, with excessive humidity, and an AirCon unit that keeps you cool in the Summer, can also keep you warm in Winter. Many units are inexpensive and will justify their cost (don’t forget what it costs to install and ‘gas’) many times over. They make local summers bearable. Airport Parking For short-term parking Alicante and Valencia airports offer parking connected to the Terminal buildings. For those who need to leave a car while they fly, there are cheap and secure alternatives. Alicante Parking Klaus Tel. 96 568 0941 Mob. 619 936 802 alicanteairportcarparking.com

Buses 150.000 €uros has been allocated by Jávea Town Hall to build a new Bus Station on land that had been reserved for an Auditorium/Theatre, in Avenida Palmera. Like the ‘New Town Hall’ it will prove to be a ‘folly’ if Jávea’s poor and inadequate bus service in is not improved. The elderly in outlying areas who can no longer drive have been disregarded. There is a subsidised service from Toscamar to the Arenal, Port and Town, that is cheap and reliable, but little else. If you are a Pensioner there are concessions. Obtain the form from the Services office above Parking El Clot, and hand it - after completing your details, a photo of yourself and the fee, to one of the bus drivers, who will tell you when they will have your ID card with barcode. Those not of pensionable age can buy a ‘Season Ticket’ for 10 €uros that buys 13,50 €uros of journeys. Local services are provided by Autobuses Carrió Tel: 96 558 1036 www.autocarescarrio.es There are connections to Valencia and Alicante, using the motorway, or visiting villages on the way, using the N-332 and ALSA buses. Cable and Satellite TV Many properties in the South of Jávea are served by underground cable from Balcon al Mar, and some even receive internet by cable. A vast range of radio and TV programmes from throughout the world are available, the cost depending on the package you choose. For those beyond the reach of the cable network, many of the programmes are re-transmitted terrestially from Costa Nova or Cabo de San Antonio. Camping and Campsites Jávea has two, both with facilities for static units intended for all-year-round occupation but which welcome tourists and their tents. Neither are ‘close’ to the beach, but Camping Naranjos is less isolated than Camping Jávea.

Butano Gas in the Cities may be piped, but in Jávea, most people rely on bottles, though some foreigners and commercial premises have gas on tap - in a tank. There are two suppliers: Repsol, whose bottles are orange and heavy. and Cepsa, whose bottles are much lighter and silver colour. Your house insurance may be invalid if you have a claim and cannot prove that your gas installation was safe, with a current (valid for 5 years) Certificate. English speaking Sebastian, who lives in Denia, is an independent inspector, authorised by the Ministry of Industry, used by many to inspect and certify their homes. He can be contacted on 687 480 183. Itinerant ‘Gas Inspectors’ - working only on commission for out-of-area companies - regularly visit Jávea, and charge huge amounts for replacing out-ofdate tubing or regulators, using very intimidating tactics. Propane and other gases are available and there is a specialist supplier for oxygen and industrial gases in Benissa.

December 2011 Chiringuitos (Beach Bars) From June to September each year, Jávea Council licenses temporary ‘beach bars’ between the Parador and the Port. Tenders are invited for a 3 or 5-year term, which are opened in public, and then evaluated by Town Hall staff to see how fully they match the Tender requirements. There is strong rivalry between those tendering, as well as between those who win. Churches Roman Catholic Port Parish of Nstra. Señora de Loreto C/. Thought 4 2 day Love Each Other - It's That Simple! ...you are my followers if you love each other. John 13:35 Before Andrew Jackson became president of the United States he was a general in the Tennessee Militia. During the War of 1812 his troops were fighting bickering among and themselves so he called them together and said, 'Gentlemen, let's remember the enemy is over there!' We'd all do well to remember that. It's easy to love God because of everything He's done for us; it's harder when it comes to loving those we have to live with. A respected Bible teacher says: 'If there's anything that would keep me away from Christ if I was lost...it would be the attitude of Christians towards one another...When I was a kid and an argument broke out...my dad used to say, "We may have a few differences inside these walls but remember, we're family. If your brother or sister needs you...take care of them...love them...and pull for them."' Everything we need to know...can be found in these two verses, 'Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself...look out...for the interests of others' (Philippians 2:3-4 NAS) In other words, think about the other person ...Don't be selfish. Sounds like something a teacher might say to a roomful of nursery children...yet how many adult problems could be solved if that was the driving force in our relationships? How many couples could reconcile their marital differences?' Jesus said, 'People will know...you are my followers if you love each other.' In the hours before He died He was still praying for us to '...become one heart and mind...' (John 17:21 TM) YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN FREE COPY OF THE WORD 4 2 DAY IN (3 MONTHS) BOOKLET FORM BY PHONING 96 646 2848.

Dive School (See Sub Aqua) Drinking and driving DON’T - it’s not worth it! Driving/Driving Licences There are excellent books in English like "Motoring in Spain" by Brian J Deller, that are updated as needed. In general - be aware that Spanish drivers do not indicate (particularly going left) around roundabouts and will stay in the outside lane all the way around. Use your wing mirrors. They do not indicate when turning off a road either, do not stop for pedestrian crossings nor acknowledge any courtesy you give them. They will also be inches from your rear bumper when on fast roads and will overtake to fill the gap you leave from the car in front, as taught in the UK. This is particularly annoying in the Calpe tunnel, where you MUST leave a 100m gap between yourself

December 2011 and the car in front, when an overtaking car can move into your gap, leaving you with a ‘photo fine’ for travelling too close. Thought 4 2 day Confront Your Fears (1) God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 Fear is something you will experience each time you try something new, like a new job or a new relationship or a new investment strategy. You will never succeed as long as you keep giving in to fear. The corporate world risks failure every time they launch another product. The fashion world risks failure with each new clothing line. Yet they're willing to take multimillion-dollar risks to improve their merchandise and boost their sales. Do they always win? No, but without taking a risk they've no chance of succeeding at all. The poet wrote: 'There was a very cautious man who never laughed or played; he never risked, he never tried, he never sang or prayed. And when one day he passed away, his insurance was denied; for since he never really lived, they claimed he never died!' The fact is, we all fail! The failure rate of the human race is one hundred percent, and everyone (you included) qualifies for membership in this club. But that doesn't mean you have to live in the fear of failure. Faith in God is what gives you the courage to confront your fears and live the life He meant you to live. If you don't, you'll suffer the regret of 'what could have been.' You'll never be perfect, so you'll never be perfectly successful. That doesn't mean you will not succeed in life but you must try. Fear is a 'spirit,' and if you let it, it will control you. God offers you three better options: 'Power...love...a sound mind.' You can read part 2 on page 13

Museum The museum originated in 1969 following the creation of a small collection of historical and ethnographic items gathered by youths led by J. B. Soler and J. Celdrán. A few years later, these materials occupied an office of Justice of the Peace and, in 1973 the chapel of St. Anne. In 1975, the City acquired through the efforts of J. Soler Blasco (then Mayor of Jávea) the old palace house of Antoni Banyuls, which since 1977, has housed the current permanent collection. It was in recognition of the main promoter and first director, Juan Bautista Soler Blasco, that the corporation gave the Museum his name. Since 1985 the Curator has been a local archaeologist who manages and advises technically. Alongside the permanent exhibition rooms are other services: library (with almost four thousand volumes), archeology and ethnography storage and a small restoration laboratory. Thought 4 2 day Confront Your Fears (2) You can read part 1 on page 11

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 A tourist was driving through the countryside when he saw an old farmer sitting in a rocking chair on his porch. Behind his farmhouse was seventy-five acres of land. The tourist asked, 'Is that your land?' 'Yep,' he replied. 'Well, what are you doing with it? Thinking of growing cotton?' the tourist asked. 'Nope, I'm afraid the boll weevils will get it,' said the farmer. 'What about corn?' the tourist asked. 'No, I'm afraid the locusts will eat it,' he replied. 'Well,' the tourist asked, 'What about raising cattle?' The farmer said, 'I'm afraid the price of beef might go down.' 'So, what are you going to do with all that prime farmland?' the tourist asked. 'Nothing. I'm just going to play it safe.' Is that how you feel? When you choose to play it safe in life, your potential for success is like that barren wasteland. As long as fear rules your life you won't step out in faith and fulfil your destiny. The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Isn't it better to risk failure and do what God wants, than risk displeasing Him? We've all experienced the fear that makes us want to pull back. Only those who overcome it go far in life. '..."Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant"' (Psalm 35:27). Conquering the fear of failure begins with believing, 'God wants me to succeed.' Undergirded by that truth you cannot only defy your fears but defeat them. YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN FREE COPY OF THE WORD 4 2 DAY IN (3 MONTH) BOOKLET FORMAT, BY PHONING 96 646 2848.

Leishmaniasis This ‘notifiable’ disease is caused when a healthy dog is bitten by an infected sand fly. The vet can help you. Vaccinations Vaccinations give your pet the best chance of a long and healthy life. The Town Hall offers vaccination against rabies. Pet Passport Pets now have the same right of relocation within the EU as humans. There is a delay of 6 months with vaccinations and blood tests to prove the animal is not a danger in another location. Pine Trees Pollen from pine trees will be a major problem to anyone suffering from hay fever, from as early as March, each year. Needles & Caterpillars The strange ‘pear-shaped’ bags hanging from pine trees that look as though they have been created by over-active spiders, are the day-time resting place of caterpillars that graze on pine needles at night. The adult, as a moth, lays around 300 eggs in August that hatch a month later. When fully grown, the Caterpillars can be seen in a procession, as if holding each other’s tail with their own head, and have a poisonous protein on every hair of their body, as they search - usually during March - for soft soil in which to pupate. Contact with human skin can produce extreme redness and swelling and any pet which disturbs a procession should be immediately taken to a Vet. It is said, that by removing pine tree branches below 3 metres (but DO NOT cut them where there are baskets of these enemies) protects the tree because the feeble female moth cannot fly that high.

Johnson Brandon If there is the possibility of the family returning to the UK permanently before schooling is complete, private education is often preferable, because it follows the UK curriculum (more or less) On the other hand, if you and your children intend to spend the rest of your lives in Spain, best to get immersed as soon as you can, with - free education in a state-funded school. Some schools in Jávea teach every subject in Valenciano, creating double difficulties for children not born here. I am told that parents now have the option to choose a school that does not teach in Valenciano, if they think it would harm their child’s education. Thought 4 2 day Staying when you feel Like Quitting ...Love...keeps going to the end. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 When Ed and Alice went for marriage counselling the therapist asked Alice, “What first attracted you to Ed?” She replied, “His strong, silent temperament.” The counsellor continued, “So why do you want a divorce?” Alice answered, “His strong, temperament!” silent Sometimes what drew us together ends up a major irritant. In every relationship there are times when it seems it would be easier to quit than to hang in. But short of physical and emotional abuse, there are advantages to working through your issues. For example, there are: 1) Emotional benefits. Contrary to what Hollywood's culture would have us believe, divorced people are more likely to feel depressed due to loneliness. In fact, many say although there were disagreements in the relationship, they miss having somebody to come home to. 2) Health benefits. Emotional stress leads to physical problems, and being in a relationship, especially a good marriage, can be beneficial for your health. It's like having your own nurse or therapist. 3) Community benefits. What your kids see influences their future choices. Staying in your marriage teaches them how to work through relationship challenges. Couples with strong marriages are helping to build a nation of loving, responsible parents who can guide their children onto the right track. 'Love...keeps going to the end.' Author Christy Scannell says, 'When my husband and I got married, we agreed it was for life... Weeks before our wedding we made a pact to work out whatever problems came our way...Yes, we fight. We accuse. We toss barbs...but we won't be moving out or filing papers...whatever happens we're staying.' YOU

Attempts to overthrow the Law by AbusosNo have been unsuccessful, an EU Court recently deciding the practice was NOT unlawful. Spain does not recognise the function of a District Valuer who would stipulate the value of the land involved. Socialists cancelled the River Ebro water project and PP endorsed the LRAU, prompting some to suggest that there is little point in voting in National elections. Back in 2003 the (then) Mayor promised to introduce ‘Ventanilla Unico’ - one window - for residents and it has always been a TOP manifesto item! One proposal was for each of the Tourist Offices to act as the Point-of-Contact, receiving requests “expones” and giving an indication of when to call back for the answer. The ‘Expone’ would be moved from office to office, rather than the applicant needing to do so. The traditional Townhall in Plaza de Iglesia in the Town centre, was vacated for refurbishment. At the same time new Council Offices were created as part of the El Clot parking scheme, but remain unoccupied because there are no funds to equip and furnish them. Town Plan Every town is obliged to have a “Strategic Plan” which states what can - and cannot -

Welcome to Paradise happen in different zones. It is normally revised at 10-yearly intervals, but the content is bitterly controversial, and its preparation and approval can often take 6 or 7 years. Jávea’s new Plan is overdue. Trains Connection to Spain’s national rail network is via Valencia, with Gandia being the closest station. Most travellers from Jávea join the train at its first stop, Xeraco, which is close to the AP-7 motorway exit, and has ample free parking. There is often talk of reopening the former link from Gandia to Denia that was closed in a ‘Beeching’ exercise, but the project has never received central government funding. There is a high-speed AVE connection from Valencia to Madrid (93 minutes) and a connecting bus from Jávea and Denia. FGV The Valencia Government provides a coastal train service between Alicante and Denia, but Gata de Gorgos (a 7Km drive away) is the closest it comes to Jávea. GUARDIA CIVIL ARRESTS 25 ‘ILLEGAL’ GAS INSPECTORS Following local complaints, including some from people who have been charged hundreds of Euros for replacement pipes and regulators that REPSOL or CEPSA would have replaced for 80 or 90% less, the Guardia Civil has arrested twenty-five false gas installers. Vulnerable property owners, confronted by uniformed men at their gates, faced with the threat of losing their gas supply, parted with cash, paid by credit card, or were driven to the bank to withdraw cash. Hiding behind a "front" company in Alicante city, the ‘inspectors’ were sent early each morning to homes likely to be occupied by the elderly or foreign nationals in Pedreguer, Jávea, Denia, and Gata de Gorgos. The twenty-five arrested, twenty-three men and two women, 23 of Spanish nationality an Ecuadorian and another French, have been reported to the Courts for crimes of fraud and conspiracy. Urbanisations Whether you live in a group of houses, or an apartment block, you are governed by rules, which must be obeyed. The Law relating to Horizontal Property applies in the absence of specific rules. Vado A ‘Vado’ is a plaque, issued by the Council, for an Annual fee, so that any citizen can protect the vehicle access from the street to their home or underground parking area. A ‘Temporary Vado’ can be obtained to ensure access for a removal van to park outside your property to load or unload. You first apply at the Council office above Parking Al Clot, pay the fee at a Bank that has authority to accept Town Hall payments (see Banks) then take the receipted form to the Technical Office, and finally, go to the municipal police office on Plaza Constitución, who will issue the permit. Valor Catastral This equates with ‘Rateable Value’ in the UK. It forms the basis for Jávea Townhall to calculate the IBI. Verbal Agreements These are binding in Spain as they are in most other countries. Vets (see Pets) Votes and Voting The first requirement to vote is joining the Padrón list of residents, for which the Town Hall receives around 200€ per person, per year. Once on the Padrón, residents need to apply to join the Censo Electoral to vote in local and European elections. If you are interested in looking at how the 2011 election worked, look at http://tinyurl.com/3tv322g V.P.O’s. Special low-cost housing is created for low-income tenants.

One rings the other and lets it ring 3 or 4 times before closing the call. The other rings back, lets it ring 3 or 4 times, and ends the call. Both know the other is alive and well. If the first or second call is not received - try again - and be prepared to phone whoever has the key to the non-responder’s property. Jávea Police will always assist if contacted on 96 579 0081. Wells were then purchased in the Jalón Valley area as everyone waited for surplus water from the River Ebro to be brought to the Costa Blanca. When the Socialists came to power in Madrid they cancelled the Ebro project, compensating contractors and again left Jávea with the prospect of salty water. Newly-elected Jávea councillor Ana Vasbinder is credited with bringing Jávea’s Desalination plant to fruition. Jávea’s new Government team are discussing water from the salination plant being made available to other towns, to generate income for Jávea.

Welcome to Paradise Visitors can tour the Desalination plant on a Wednesday. For pools Water from AMJASA can be used to fill your swimming pool, but the cost is quite high. Wills In the UK you can write your own ‘Last Will and Testament’, have it signed by 2 witnesses, and it will govern what happens to your assets when you die. Spain is totally different. Only a Notary can create the public documents that contains your final wishes, retaining the original in his archives and sending notification to the Registry of Wills in Madrid. Abogados (lawyers) can advise on the wording where there are complications like previous marriages or illegitimate children, but you will have to pay the Notary fee, whether you have an Abogado or not. If your situation is not complicated - just spouse, car, house and legitimate children - the Notary can provide you with a template you complete as and where appropriate, so that all issues are included. The Original Notary's Office is in Historia Chabas, Nº 6 (I think). If you were to travel from the PORT towards the town, passing the Ctra. Cabo La Nao, on your left, and on to one-way traffic, at the junction where USED TO BE SOME TRAFFIC LIGHTS, (with Compters Xabia on your bottom left, and Amparo the Pharmicist top right, TURN LEFT and Historia Chabas is the FIRST little road on your RIGHT. Park anywhere you can find!!!! The NEW Will supercedes and replaces any previous.

December 2011 The ORIGINAL is retained by the Notary, who provides you with a copy. The Notary is OBLIGATED to notify the Archive of Wills in Madrid (Registro Civil Central de Madrid - de Testamentos y Últimas Voluntades) of the name, and place and date of birth of everyone for whom he holds the original. When the Testator is deceased, on production of a copy of the entry of Death (in Denia Court in the case of Jávea) application can be made TO MADRID, stating the reason you want a copy, and asking where the latest document is held. On production of the authorisation from Madrid, the Notaria will provide you with a Certified Copy of the Original Document. Spanish Law stipulates the inheritance rights of a spouse and children, but allows a Brit to choose to leave their assets as they wish - even 100% to the cat or dog’s home - but family always have the right to contest the intentions of the Testator. Work Non-Spaniards - and especially those who are not fluent Spanish speakers - will find it VERY hard to get employment. Employers pay a punitive tax for employing staff, so there is a huge ‘black’ labour market where the government receives nothing in respect of Income Tax or Social Security, and the employee has no rights, health cover or pension to look forward to. Autonomo - self employed - is one option, but skills that were amply rewarded in the UK (PA to the MD) are worthless in Jávea, where villa-cleaning is all you might be offered. This is a huge generality, but DON’T listen to people who will promise you work if you relocate to Jávea - the chances are 99.9% against. It can be viewed on ‘Swiss Cable’ - Channel 25 and rotates with other local information on a continuous loop.

Thieves targeted Montgo homes in the second week of December, in the area around Pic de la Batalla, even entering homes when the owners were ‘at home’. Owners in every area are warned to maintain their vigilance, and ensure that their doors and gates are securely locked, even when they may be expecting guests to arrive for a seasonal celebration.

MUNICIPAL POLICE CATCH 8 POACHERS WITH HUNDREDS OF SEA URCHINS Local Police have caught eight divers who illegally mined sea urchins (known locally as bogamarins) in the Pallers cove at Portichol. Those caught were each estimated to have caught 300 creatures, each of which was individually returned to the sea, with the expectation that most would survive. Government Decree 50/2005, which regulates fishing for this native species carries a maximum fine of 600 €uros. In the case of repeat offenders, the fishing or diving gear they used can be confiscated. Regional rules impose a total ban from March to December and prohibits the removal of urchins by diving, whether snorkelling or bottles.

Regional Criticism The Valencian Government have disagreed with parts of Jávea’s General Town Plan proposing dispersed construction of more villas and chalets, and have recommended high density apartment housing, claiming it will reduce the cost of providing services. Existing developments should be completed before more are considered. They also list La Guardia, Cansalades, Lluca, Granadella and Capsades as being unsuitable for additional development.

AMJASA BOSS GETS THE PUSH AMJASA Manager, Vicente Arribas received a letter telling him he was sacked from the 60.000 €uro a year job he’d held for 10 years, on the grounds that he lacked qualifications. BLOC councillors estimate it may cost as much as 120.000 €uros in compensation if Vicente decides to litigate for wrongful dismissal, when it was not even on the Agenda at the recent Board meeting.

Plumbers fix leaks Jávea’s plumbers will be used by AMJASA to repair leaks to the municipal water supply, rather than use their own employees.

Practical Democracy 22 children aged between 10 and 12 years of age, winners of a ballot of 422 fifth and sixth-grade pupils, will meet as a “Children’s Council” to advise the Town Hall on policies affecting children.

Recycling success More than 100.000 Kgs of old clothing was donated by Jávea residents in the past year for overseas charities, an increase of 26%. Had the clothes been placed in the ‘grey bins’ it would have cost 6.500 €uros for disposal as garbage.

English lessons 75 students recently received diplomas issued by Jávea Council, having been taught by 11 native British residents, thanks to an initiative of the ‘Help Desk’. Classes will recommence in the new year, offering German tuition, as well.

It’s Rain Dear According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should have known ... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.
