fter all those binging during the Christmas season, you now feel as if you just woke up and had a nightmare. All your pants got smaller, shirts more fit. No it's not your clothes that got smaller it's you who got bigger. Yes you are now 5-10 pounds heavier than last November. But don't be scared all those unwanted pounds are easy to lose thru this diet: Paleolithic diet better known as Paleo diet or (caveman diet) This is the diet our ancestors used and for sure that was the reason they were healthier back in the day. Paleo diet does not need the calorie counting method that most of you readers do follow so if you would follow me in my Paleo escapade first thing you should stop is counting calories. This diet focuses on meat, eggs, fish, fruits and vegetables. Stay away from grains, pasta, wheat and oats. Why do you have to stay away from grains?? Simple because our ancestors 8

didn't have access to agriculture before. But do you really want to know why you have to stay away from grains? That's your assignment, research about lectins, where you get them and why it is bad for you. To give you a better understanding about Paleo diet here are some helpful tips:

1 Cut out grains (in particular 1. gluten grains such as wheat, barley & rye), vegetable oils (sunflower, rapeseed, safflower, etc.) and sugar. 2 Eat plenty of meat, fish, fowl/ 2. poultry, eggs and plenty of all types of vegetables (although best to avoid too many potatoes if trying to lose weight or have VOL. 2 NO. 1 C LUB

blood sugar problems). 3 Drink water, unsweetened 3. tea or coffee. Easy on the diet coke, the artificial sweetener (aspartame) can interfere with the brain cells that control appetite and weight regulation. 4 Eat fat for fuel – it’s the stuff 4. in step #1 that leads to heart attacks and makes you fat, not saturated and animal fats. So don’t bother with most stuff marketed as low-fat. Cook with butter, ghee, lard, dripping or coconut oil. Olive oil is also great and is ideal for salad dressings (with a splash of balsamic vinegar). Avocado’s are awesome. 5 Supplement with omega 3 oil 5. or make sure you eat a couple of servings of oily fish a week (sardines, mackerel, salmon, etc.).

66. Consider a vitamin D supplement, especially if you don’t get out in the sun often. Best to avoid milk (try cream in your coffee if you don’t like it black). 7 Red wine (1-2 glasses a day), 7. dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), fruit, nuts & seeds in moderation are all OK as an odd treat. 8. 8 80/20 rule – eat this way 80% of the time and enjoy a guilt-free cheat day once a week. 9 Get some exercise (lifting 9. weights is good to maintain and build lean muscle mass) and get 8 hours quality sleep a night. 10 10. Did I mention that you have to stop eating grains? Yes you should. That’s tip number 1 right, I am just reminding you. Now you have an idea what Paleo lifestyle is, might as well follow this diet. So easy even cavemen did it. Remember, eat until you are full and eat whenever you are hungry. By following the Paleo food guide you should never be afraid to eat because you are eating healthy foods and you are not starving yourself just to binge more on your next meal. More about paleo tips on our following articles so stand by for our next issue. :)

s makeup artists we constantly apply makeup to ourselves and our clients. Our skin deserves some pampering from all those chemicals applied on our face. But we don't need to spend a lot of money on branded and expensive beauty products or go beauty parlors or spa for relaxation because there are a number of simple beauty treatments that we can use with things that are easily available in our homes. Here are some home beauty tips that you can try for yourself.

- To relax your eyes from stressful and sleepless nights, use thin slice of cucumber as eye pads. Another option is to use cotton pads soaked in cold milk. Lie down and place them on your closed eyes and relax for at least 10-15 minutes.

She graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Finance from the Crafton Hills College in California and even worked for several loan and mortgage companies in the US before she realized that she wanted to pursue her childhood dream of entering showbiz. She is now involved in several modeling projects and was FHM Magazine’s featured model last December (a popular men’s magazine in the Philippines) We could give out several quotes about the sun and sunshine, but we guess we'll just let Soleil’s photos do the talking..

FIREWORKS I

f there’s a fireworks display, it means there’s a celebration, most obvious of them all is the New Year Celebration. Fireworks display never ceases to amaze spectators of all ages. Back in the Philippines, welcoming New Year is not complete without fireworks. And if you are staying in Japan for the holidays, you might be surprised how quiet and dark the your surroundings will be. No fancy displays. And if there is any, it would be just for a few seconds. In Japan, fireworks display, or hanabi, signal the beginning of summer. It is one of the most anticipated events in Japanese calendars. I think it is pretty much similar on how Filipinos await the fireworks extravaganza during New Year.

A few months ago, I watched the Japanese film "Oniichan no Hanabi (Fireworks from the Heart)" and learned a thing or two about fireworks. One particular line from the said film that I can still remember until now was "every firework bears the heart and soul of the people". Most of us always thought that it is just a simple firework, but to the maker, it is not. It has a story of its own, one that is worth telling whether it is for a summer or new year celebration. If next year, I am still stranded in Japan, I will see to it that I have my tripod. But with or without tripod, just being with friends and alcohol, it would be more than fine already. Happy New Year Everyone!

WALANG BASAGAN NG TRIP

T

Kaasar to the nth power! 1.

Mabuhey! 21

SEXY MOM OF THE MONTH

Star Fire In The Ice

Its no wonder Judith's online internet name is "Starbercks" you could say that just like a cup of coffee - she can keep your senses wide awake with her sexy curves and alluring personality.

We hear it gets really cold up there in Akita, how do you keep yourself warm? Keeping my friends close and embracing the love of my family keeps me warm and safe during the dark and cold winter nights in Akita... Wow, that's very dramatic of you... Kidding aside, after living here for more than 7 years - I am already used to the cold winter season Akita has to offer... Sanayan lang pala, but whenever I feel cold I just exercise. Keeps me warm at nagiging sexy pa ako di ba? Speaking of sexy, which part of your body do you think is the sexiest? Well people tell me that my eyes are very sexy. Some guys actually think that I am trying to seduce them with the way I look at them. So lets get to the serious questions: What keeps you busy? Aside from being a full-time housewife, i also have my own online shop named Starby Jp Corner which sells fashion and beauty related products. How is life in Japan treating you? I have never imagined that ill be living in Japan, let alone marrying a foreigner because I have always been attracted to Filipinos only, kasi sweet and thoughtful ang mga Pinoy. But I guess that I am 22

destined to live and start a family here in Japan. Life is more convenient here, ang kalaban mo lang ay lungkot because you get to be far away from your family and friends in the Philippines. But then again it's really easy to make new friends with other Filipinos here in Japan. I have made new friends from all over Japan through Internet forums and Facebook. I also have a lot of Japanese friends from our neighborhood and my son's school so it's not really that lonely. You seem to have adjusted well in living your life in a foreign land, do you have any advice for other Filipinas in Japan? Most of us Filipinas here end up being housewives, so aside from our daily routine with our family - try to bring spice to your life by giving yourself some "me" time while you child is at school and your husband is at work. Make new friends and socialize with other people. Go to the parlor, dress up and party with friends. But after all the fun, I believe that true happiness lies in our own home. For me, family is the most important aspect of my life. Family bonding need not to be outdoor excursions or out of town trips, by simply asking how your husband's day was at work or talking to your child and helping out with their assignments can help you get closer with each other as time goes by. And that's how a Star brings Fire in the Ice.

Philippine Staff of PG&Co. ready to help you
