oy believes in living the simple life and, looking at her stunning and sexy body one would think that she is the wild party type girl but you’d be surprised to know that Joy rarely goes out to party because she doesn’t like drinking alcoholic beverages and the second hand smoke that you usually get during a night-out. Instead she spends most of her time singing and dancing on her own and sometimes with her friends when the hit the karaoke joints in Japan. Like most women she enjoys shopping for shoes, bags and sunglasses. A smoking hot body its hard to imagine Joy munching on her favorite Filipino food the “kakanin” or rice cake variants, when in Japan she goes on a food trip and loves to eat Japanese delicacies such as sushi, sukiyaki and yakiniku.

hen Club Filipina model and resident columnist Akemi Kobayashi Po visited the Philippines last November 2014, I invited her to try out Crossfit at CFMNL Libis the first crossfit box (gym) in the Philippines. With a very little idea of what the fitness program is all about (basing everything from a year of reading my articles here on health and fitness) , she gave in to my invite. Like any beginner, Akemi was excited but a little bit nervous on her first ever trial. The first part, the warm up, raised her heartbeat a little. She then showed more

FIRST CROSSFIT enthusiasm for the main "WOD" or workout of the day. Our model's physical fitness was put to the test during the wod. She did box jumps, push ups,sit ups, air squats and 400 meter runs in between rounds. Although these are all bodyweight movements it was a little bit hard because together with the class she has to finish the workout within a given time, which of course gave her almost no rest in between sets, leaving her gasping for air, Going hard and pushing herself on every movement, she did not give up until she has gone thru all the sets,She finished the workout on time. Happy and feeling lucky to survive the workout, Akemi gave a thumbs up for Crossfit saying that everyone should try and join because contrary to what she has been hearing about Crossfit, she says it is safe and is an effective way to be physically fit. She encourages others to try it, too. Being a mom to a 4-year old boy, I also asked her what kept her trim and fit. She said she eats healthy foods, doesn't drink and she exercises at home whenever she has extra time just so she can maintain her sexy body and stay fit and prepare her for photoshoots and pictorials anytime of the year. If Akemi believed the negative
rumours about Crossfit, she probably would not have tried and proved to herself how safe and fun it is to join this fitness craze everyone is talking about. Yes the saying is true, "If you don't try you will never know". So for those of you visiting or coming home to the Phillipines you can check out Crossfit Manila Philippines or visit www.cfmnl.com and book for a trial. They have 5 branches namely Libis, Fort,Kapitolyo,Makati and Alabang. Who knows the trial might just be the start of your journey to a fitter and healthier life.

TRIP
Volume 3 Issue 15 CLUB FILIPINA

herry Chaneco spent most of her formative years here in the Land of the Rising Sun, since her mother brought Therry to Japan when she was just 15 years old. Take one look at her Facebook page, and you can see clearly that Therry loves to dance. That is made evident from several dance videos on her page. But most people are not aware that she is also a Taekwondo enthusiast, and is only a few lessons away from earning her belt. When Therry is not busy dancing or kicking, she may well be cooking up a storm in her kitchen. Her culinary creation styles vary from Filipino delicacies to Japanese recipes. Furthermore, she prides herself on being an expert within the realm of Italian cuisines. Therry says she makes one mean Peperoncino pasta meal. Traveling is another staple of Therry’s Facebook and Instagram social networking accounts. In addition to her local journeys within Japan and various parts of the Philippines, Therry has been to Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong. She eagerly anticipates more traveling in her future. This month, we present documentation that our Girl Next Door is a triple threat on the dance floor, in the kitchen, and as a world traveler. Who wouldn’t want to be in Therry Chaneco's shoes?

BERGEN NORWAY
O
ne of my favorite places in Europe is Bergen, Norway. I stayed in Bergen for three-days. Yes, it was very short but I was able to maximize the itinerary. .It was pouring heavily when I arrived at midnight. Fortunately though, the weather started to get fine by noon. I forced myself out of bed and began exploring the city. Umbrellas were not needed then. At first, it seems similar to other European countries, not until you discover the natural treasures of Bergen. Just after a few minutes of strolling, I fell in love with the place. How I immediately wished there was an available work for me. I will transfer in a heartbeat. It must be the sceneries. Ending my first day was a trip to Fløyen. Fløyen is one of the seven mountains of Bergen. It is a perfect place to relax and have a glimpse of the entire city. I’ve been walking all day, so it was a good place to stretch my legs. And as I said earlier, the weather was perfect thus Mr. Sun did show up. It was a bonus point for me considering Bergen is known

to have rain for 365 days, normally. The next day, after finding out another good weather forecast, I booked myself to the fjords tour. Seeing the online site was enough for me to forget that I didn’t have sleep the day before. I thought, I will be in paradise. PARADISE INDEED. I was running out of words to describe the place and choosing few pictures for this part was very hard. During the
trip, I was wearing my blog shirt and one Australian tourist approached me and said that she liked my shirt. Ha! She just gave me a business idea. Just when I thought I had seen the best Bergen has to offer, I went up to Mt. Ulriken the next day and it was equally breathtaking. I can stay in one spot for the whole day by just looking at Bergen's cityscape. Even
if you are afraid of heights, you’ll forget that fear once you go to Mt. Ulriken. It will make you appreciate high places. It was a fun-filled three-week journey. If I will be given the chance to go back to Europe, I'll further explore Norway. I will be waiting for that moment to arrive, when I have enough money to travel again. How did you get started with bodybuilding? I started working out when I was about 15, doing the typical cardio and pilates. Eventually over the years I moved towards the weights, however I was always on the machines and too uneducated and intimidated to go towards the weights. It wasn't until I started working out with my boyfriend in 2012, when I actually stepped into the weight area and using the dumbbells! After that I started doing a lot of research and became addicted to the positive results! How would you describe your preparation for the USBB competition? I was told about the upcoming competition maybe three months before, and kind of thought about it but didn't really consider joining as I didn't have the balls! Haha. My gym director kept telling me I should go for it and I was like "meh, we shall see." Around 8-weeks out from the show date, I just figured, what do I have to lose? So I got serious, created my own meal-plan, training, and cardio schedule, and just went for it. How does it feel to take first place? To be honest, I didn't expect to win. I didn't have any coach or trainer telling me exactly what to eat, how much to eat, what to do in the gym, what to expect…all that jazz! I basically just took it as a learning experience, and if I placed, great, if not, at least I accomplished a goal and stayed dedicated to myself! OH, and I would end up with a rocking body! Where does your motivation come from? My biggest motivation is the mirror and seeing progress! This competition really to myself that I can accomplish anything if I just stay dedicated to my goals! What is your weekly workout schedule like? Currently, I am focusing on gaining strength and muscle, so I am doing a lot of compound movements and lifting HEAVY. I do weight training maybe 3-4 times a week, and I don't really have a set 'routine'. I sort of do my own thing and it works because I am always sore the next day! I don't

do much cardio (surprise!), and if I do it is usually a 5-10 minute warm-up or HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). My schedule was much different when prepping for the competition, but my goals were also different. I can say that I did MUCH more card (yuck) and days of training was more 'specific'. Â If you had to give advice to those wanting to get into fitness, what would you say? I could go on and on about fitness! But in a nut-shell, quality over quantity, weights over cardio, and diet. I say quality over quantity because doing the proper movements is much more important than how much you can lift! If you aren't sure about how to do a certain exercise, never be afraid to ask or do your research! Another probably amazing fact, especially for you ladies, is you will not get "bulky and manly" by lifting weights! You will have much better results in the weight room than hours on the hamster wheel. Lastly, diet! Don't starve yourself! Your body needs the proper macro and micronutrients in order to stay energetic and healthy! Eat for your goals and eat in moderation! What is your diet like? My diet now and my diet prepping for the competition are very different. For the competition I measured everything as well as prepared most of my meals in advanced. I did not starve myself and many of my co-workers would be shocked how much and how often I ate! LOL. My diet is still very healthy but also flexible. I won't lie, I eat peanut butter and chocolate pretty much everyday. What are your three best tips for someone looking to make some healthy changes? 1. Health starts from the inside - with that being said, you need to nourish the body with a balanced diet and water! You cant expect to feel great in the gym if you are starving yourself or eating crap! 2. Train hard and smart - like I mentioned earlier, quality over quantity! Ask for help, hire a trainer, or do your research! Google is your best friend! 3. Love your body - get plenty of sleep and don't stress too much! Slow progress is still progress, so never give up and keep going!

Naoji Kitaoka, President & CEO
Philippine Staff of PG&Co. ready to help you
PG& Co. multi-cultural staff ready to assist you in any language.
