LevelUpYourGrillingGame withSynergyGrills

With pioneering, award-winning technology, the Synergy Grill is revolutionising the hospitality industry Through high power and low energy consumption, Synergy Grills enable faster food preparation while significantly reducing energy costs when compared to equivalent grills on the market.

Read below to find out how a Synergy Grill can level up your grilling game in your commercial kitchen

Innovative Cooking Technologies

The Synergy Grill features a range of cooking innovations you won’t find in other char grills on the market today, resulting in delicious product for your customers to enjoy!

Synergy Grill uses a patented award-winning gas burner system The system utilises electronic ignition with flame protection probe - no thermocouple required!

Synergy’s heat capturing technology further enhances high heat to focus directly on the food, requiring less energy, while the combination of the natural ceramic heat bed and Vortex air technology ensures exceptional heat distribution

The entire Synergy Trilogy range features SMART control technology and digital controller

The rapid heat up function allows the unit to reach the perfect cooking temperature in just 30 minutes, after which point Synergy Grill will automatically default to your last heat setting Each burner features independent heat regulation via the SMART digital controller and tactile buttons with 10 power settings

The Synergy Grill is far kinder to food Fat is atomised whilst cooking on the grill, and less moisture is lost during cooking. This allows for natural oils to be returned to the food without causing the “black smoke”, soot flavour that is often associated with standard grills. The Synergy Grill is quick and easy to clean (no fat trays here!), by using a vacuum or brush to remove the remaining debris from the grill

Protecting Staff and the Environment

Synergy Grill creates less “potent” smoke, as it caramelises the food Staff work in a cleaner, less polluted environment, whilst the extraction system works more efficiently and requires less cleaning due to the reduced emissions passing through the ventilation system

Synergy Grill significantly reduces CO² emissions with significantly less gas consumption.

Winner of the 2019 Footprint Award for Sustainable Catering Equipment, Synergy are the only gas grills that have gained accreditation from the Carbon Trust, a global organisation that is providing solutions for the world’s climate crisis

What’s Included?

Synergy Trilogy grills are available in 1, 2, 3, and 4 cooking zone configurations

The Synergy Trilogy char grills include a slow cook shelf for resting and multi-functional cooking, and a garnish rail for easy user access to garnishes and bastings.

Optional accessories that elevate the Synergy grilling experience include an added griddle plate, divider plate for eliminating food cross contamination, a resting shelf, rotisserie add-on, and a stainless-steel stand with undershelf to suit all Synergy grills

OakbankGolfClub OakbankGolfClub

anditsvitalvolunteers anditsvitalvolunteers

Nestled in the heart of the Onkaparinga Valley, you will find South Australia's second oldest golf Club: Oakbank Golf Club

Prior to moving to the current course on Smith Street, the Club was located at the famous Oakbank Racing Club's racecourse for its first 100 years.

In 1994 the new nine hole Oakbank Golf Course was laid out on land that had been owned by J and A G Johnston Ltd since 1858. The transformation from farm land to linksstyle golf course began under the direction of longstanding Johnston's company secretary - and Life Member of the Oakbank Golf ClubBryan O'Leary

In June of 2015, the Club was able to purchase the course from the wealthy Hills Johnston family The committee and Members see themselves as custodians of the Club and they are doing all they can to ensure its continued success and survival for future generations.

Membership in 2015 amounted to 135 There has been a fantastic increase in numbers in recent years with membership today totalling 320, which includes an encouraging growth in juniors A familiar story with other golf Clubs in SA, the COVID period actually helped in growing numbers and Oakbank has retained the membership of these newcomers since.

How has the Club achieved this renewed lease of life?

A great core of hard working, multi skilled volunteers have brought about this recent growth.

President Bruce was very proud to talk about the volunteers’ dedication and enthusiasm being a vital part of the Club’s success Bruce feels that having everyone on same page and working towards same goal is essential. They have plans to engage with local schools soon, again with an eye on the future A local college covers turf management in one of its courses and Club has built an association with the college to promote this. There is a core of 10-12 volunteers with many more willing helpers whenever there’s a call out to assist with specific projects

A team of 3 tend to the mowing - Dick, Ken & Ashley, with 3 holes each and mowing 3-4 days including fairways before 6am on Thursdays!

Bruce gave a shout out to Jamie, Alistair, David, John, Johan, Cooper and weed sprayers Bruce and Dick too

Jeff does the bar for four days including stock purchasing and stocking and there

KEEPING IN TOUCH - APRIL 2024 PAGE 20

are 20 RSA trained volunteers available to work behind the bar Food wise, the ladies hold a monthly soup and scones get together and Mondays and Wednesdays see the gentlemen settle in for beers and pies after their rounds

Come and try golf sessions are held on Thursdays and are a great social days. Often they are fortunate to be able to have a professional on hand who is able to answer questions and give advice

Early on Saturdays see the first 40 players out on the course, followed by another group at 11 30am

The week I visited, they’d had another 60 golfers for this session which makes for a lively time back in the clubrooms when the ‘serious’ part of the day is finished.

Larger social events are held about 4 times a year such as Quiz Nights

It is clear to see the huge impact volunteers have had and continue to have at Oakbank Golf Club and they are an excellent example of how important a group of willing hands are to our South Aussie Clubs Well done to all involved!

SINGLE USE PLASTIC

CHRISTINECARTER, MEMBERSHIPMANAGER

Single-use plastic beverage containers (including coffee cups)

On September 9 2020, the South Australian Parliament passed the Single-use and Other Plastic Products (Waste Avoidance) Act 2020 This legislation was the first of its kind in Australia and a positive step towards avoiding waste.

Clubs SA has been keeping Members informed well ahead of the planned bans implemented in stages each year.

The next phase is planned to be introduced 1 September 2024 and Clubs are again likely to be impacted Of most relevance to our Members are the bans covering:

Single-use plastic beverage containers (including coffee cups) offer convenience for consumers, but these items and their attachments (such as lids and beverage plugs) have limited recovery and recycling pathways, creating confusion for consumers In order to tackle plastic pollution, business and industry must transition to more reusable and certified compostable cups, lids and beverage plugs.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) consumer food and beverage containers

Expanded polystyrene cups, bowls, plates and clamshell containers were prohibited from sale, supply and distribution in South Australia on 1 March 2022 Other expanded polystyrene (EPS) consumer food and beverage containers in the market (e g gelato tubs) will be removed and complete the approach intended for this type of plastic EPS trays used for meat, fruit and other food items for retail sale will be phased out

KEEPING IN TOUCH - APRIL 2024 PAGE 24

Single-use plastic food containers

Fibre and other certified compostable, or non-plastic recyclable or reusable alternatives can replace single-use plastic food containers with various alternatives already available and in use.

Plastic confetti and plastic ballon sticks/ties

Plastic confetti causes preventable damage to the environment and will be phased out in South Australia The interpretation of what constitutes confetti will be defined in regulations to follow Plastic balloon sticks/ties will be phased out

Other items to be phased out are:

Plastic Barrier Bags

These will be phased out, enabling the market to switch to compostable alternatives, certified to Australian Standards for compostability [AS4736-2006 and AS5810-2010]

Thick supermarket or boutique-style plastic bags

There are alternatives for these and the timing of this ban allows retailers to source alternatives and inform customers.

Plastic bread tags

Plastic bread tags can be replaced with non-plastic alternatives, as has already been introduced by at least one major bread producer.

Further information is available at the Replace the Waste website HERE>>

For alternatives, our Corporate Partners at HCH - HOSPITALITY CATERING HARDWARE - have a wide selection of BioPak products available.

FOODSAFETY FOODSAFETYRESOURCES RESOURCES

From early December last year the new food safety standard, standard 3.2.2A, came into force and councils will now have their health officers checking compliance

This introduced the need for clubs deemed to be a category one food businesses to have all of the following management tools in place and category two businesses needing to implement the first two:

1 Food handler training

2 Food safety supervisor

3. Showing you’re managing key food safety controls

Clubs deemed category one or two who have not yet got these in place need to implement them ASAP

A number of members have asked where they can find resources in relation to this and food safety generally and members can refer to Clubs SA member’s site on the Food Safety page. This includes an FAQ on the new standard created in consultation with SA Health and templates for recording temperatures There is also an extensive Food Safety Fundamentals Package and a number of other useful documents and links

Members can also find useful resources from the following sites and bodies:

SA Health including this site; Food Standards Australia & New Zealand; and Clubs local Council

A list of Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) who offer the food safety supervisor training can be found on this page

Members can also contact Clubs SA’s partners Stoddart and Hospitality Catering Hardware (HCH) if they want to speak to someone about equipment and compliance in their kitchens Members can also enquire with them about having a food safety audit done on their premises.

PlayOurWayProgram SignificantSportingGrant

Sporting Clubs are advised that the Federal Government via the Department of Health and Aged Care have opened applications for its significant “Play Our Way Program”. This grant will offer up to $200 million in total over 3 years to provide funding for solutions and improvements that address participation barriers faced by women and girls

Currently applications are open until 2pm (AEDT) 29 April 2024, although further opportunities to apply should occur in the future.

Entities including incorporated not-for-profit associations can look to apply for funding under one of two streams:

1 Participation and Equipment e g modification of and/or new programs that help deliver quality sport or provide more opportunities for women and girls and/or new or upgraded equipment to assist women and girls in playing sport etc

Facilities e g construction or modification of facilities, playing areas or spaces for sport and/or physical activity to make them more inclusive, safe and accessible for women and girls etc.

2 Clubs wishing to apply need to closely view and understand the assessment criteria and the process that will occur There will also need to be a lot of documentation attached to the application such as an indicative activity budget and a letter of agreement from the facility and landowner to all aspects of the proposal

To be successful an applicant will have to properly detail how their proposal provides value for money and will result in enduring change for women and girls facing barriers to participation in sport and physical activity In particular those assessing will want to see how this will benefit those in priority populations, being: First Nations peoples; those who are culturally and linguistically diverse; people with a disability; those who reside in regional, rural and remote areas; those residing in a low socioeconomic area; and/or those who identify as belonging to the LGBTIQA+ community

Clubs who are interested in finding out more or applying can visit the following page on GrantConnect which is a centralised database of current Australian Government opportunities A logon will need to be created to download and view the guidelines

KEEPING IN TOUCH - APRIL 2024 PAGE 30

A link to the GrantConnect page can also be found on the Clubs SA Website on the Grant Watch page where grants that may be of interest to clubs are listed

About Autism SA

Clubs with Heart Enhancing Inclusion and Accessibility Project

Autism SA is a registered charitable organisation with a strong legacy of advocating for autism acceptance, research, and support. With over 400 staff and a wide range of services, Autism SA aims to improve the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families through empowerment, education, and support

We have a successful track record in fostering autism inclusion through community partnership including our collaboration with Drake’s supermarkets which has led to a popular ‘quiet time’ session, where shoppers can enjoy a low-sensory experience

Did you know?

Clubs with Heart Enhancing Inclusion and Accessibility Project

The benefits of getting involved:

Untapped market:

There are over 200,000 autistic Australians, and their demand for suitable entertainment and outings is currently being unmet For example, a survey of parents of Autistic children asked if they currently take family vacations and 87% replied no When asked if they would be more likely to do so if travel facilities were autism-friendly, 93% said yes. (Cross, 2021) Our local community research affirms these findings Currently, only 4% of autistic people believe businesses know how to support them. (ABS, 2018)

Positive branding opportunity:

Undertaking autism-friendly training presents positive marketing opportunities and the ability to brand yourself with our autism-friendly logo. After receiving training your club can be listed on our autism-friendly business directory, enabling autistic people and their families to find it

No cost:

All services provided are completely free.

How to get involved:

You can make whatever changes are most suitable for your club For example, this could be:

Doing free staff training

Holding a ‘quiet dinner’ or other event at your club

Having a sensory guide created for your website/socials so people know what to expect before visiting

Creating a permanent or temporary quiet space in your club

Autism Awareness Staff Training

What is autism?

Autism is a neurological developmental difference that changes the way a person sees, experiences and understands the world

The term ‘spectrum’ is used because the support needs and abilities of autistic people vary significantly.

Individuals on the spectrum may have skills in particular areas, while finding other aspects of life very challenging.

Why do Autism Awareness Training?

Research has shown that 95% of parents with autistic children consider staff training in autism awareness to be important (24%) or very important (71%) (Cross, 2021) This training tries to address common barriers in visiting public places. These barriers include the fear of causing discomfort or inconvenience to others, lack of support in managing behaviour, and fear of judgment from others. Positive and empathetic staff attitudes significantly improve parents' satisfaction with venues

What is included in the training?

Our 20 minute training session covers the following topics:

What is autism?

Sensory characteristics

Behavioural characteristics

Creating autism-friendly spaces in venues

Interacting with autistic patrons

Supporting autistic patrons and their family members

Collaborating with autistic colleagues

Q & A

We recommend allocating extra time for questions and flexibility in delivering sessions, either in-person or online via Teams.

Benefits to you

Clubs with Heart Enhancing Inclusion and Accessibility Project

By investing in this training, you can: Boost your workforce's confidence in serving autistic patrons and family members. Tap into a broader customer base, considering there are more than 4 million people with disabilities in Australia, including around 204,000 autistic individuals.

Become eligible to join the Autism Friendly Charter when 75% of your workforce completes the training This opportunity showcases your venue as a preferred choice for autistic patrons of over 20,000 people You can proudly display the Autism-Friendly logo on your physical venue, website, and social media platforms.

CHANGINGYOUR CHANGINGYOUR CLUB’SCONSTITUTION CLUB’SCONSTITUTION

A club’s Constitution sets out the rules for the running of the organisation. Occasionally a club may decide that changes are needed to their Constitution

When making changes however it is important a club knows how to properly do so in order to ensure the changes are valid and that no breach of the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 (SA) (the Act) occurs Section 24 of the Act states that changes to a club’s Constitution can be done where members agrees via a Special Resolution, or by another provision that is specified in their Constitution As such, it is important that a club firstly closely checks their Constitution to see if it specifies how changes can occur If a specific provision is not contained in the Constitution, then a Special Resolution (a resolution passed at a duly convened meeting of the members of an association) is needed

A Special Resolution can be made at either an Annual General Meeting (AGM) or by calling a Special General Meeting

Whichever meeting the resolution is proposed at, clubs need to keep in mind that all other requirements for these meetings specified in the constitution need to be followed e g sufficient notice and quorum requirements

Appropriate notice will need to be given to members where a Special Resolution is proposed, with the Act specifying that at least 21 days’ written notice needs to be given Constitutions can impose a longer

notice period, but can’t im

The Notice will need t Motion is being put forw Resolution to make changes to the Constitution and this should also be listed clearly on the meeting’s agenda as an item On the Notice the changes being proposed need to be specifically detailed so that members will understand what is being proposed and can then make an informed decision as to whether to attend and whether to support it or not. For example:

The following resolution will be proposed as a special resolution at the special general meeting:

To make alterations to XXXX Club’s Constitution in the following manner:

Remove clause xx

Remove clause xx and replace with xx etc Where there are a large number of changes, it may be best to attach a full copy of the new draft constitution

The Notice should also explain the effect of the proposed change and the reasons for it.

For a Special Resolution to pass, the Act requires a majority of not less than threequarters (75%) of members of the association who are entitled to vote and who attend the meeting either in person or via proxy where your rules clearly allow this Unless your Constitution says otherwise, it is

KEEPING IN TOUCH - 2024 APRIL PAGE 38
Rhys Braybrook, Workplace Relations & Policy Manager

it is 75% of eligible voters who are in attendance at the meeting rather than 75% of eligible members as a whole, at the same time checking to make sure your Constitution don’t require a higher majority Again any quorum requirements that your Constitution states for an AGM or general meeting will also have to be met.

If the changes are accepted, then you must notify Consumer Business Services SA (CBS) of this within one month A guide on how these changes can be lodged and what is required can be found on the Clubs SA Members only site under the Application Guides & Information Sheets page

Members are also reminded that Clubs SA has now commenced the rollout of its new Club Development Program which has been designed to improve and develop the governance and leadership of licensed and unlicensed Clubs throughout South Australia

There will also be further training courses released later this year including one specifically on Constitutions called Constitutions 101 where this and many other topics will be covered.
