forward past

fast to the

Oozing Victorian splendour, the Pier stands in pride of place on Southport’s seafront. Restored to its original glory after £7million of investment in 2002, the Pier is a must-see during your time in the town. Known as one of the country’s first ‘Pleasure Piers’ and because of its Grade II listed building status, it’s a landmark the resort is proud to possess. It’s perfect for romantic strolls or a chance to take in the sights and at 3,600 feet it’s the second longest Pier in the UK. Dating back to 1860 this fantastic piece of architecture offers the perfect spot to take in the amazing panoramic views of the Sefton and North Wales coastlines. The Pier also regularly hosts a number of entertainment days, including birdwatching and family events.

If you’d rather not walk the Pier length why not let our Pier Tram take the strain? Hop on board this one-of-a-kind tram (wheelchair accessible) and take the leisurely route down to the Pier Pavilion. It leaves from the Pier entrance every half hour and is the perfect way to experience this great attraction. The Pavilion is sure to spark memories with many as it’s home to a variety of traditional (pre-decimalisation) ‘penny slot’ amusement machines.

12

Have your fortune told or giggle at the fun games – young or old you’ll love this part of the Pier. In the Pavilion you’ll also find a fully licensed bar and café – both perfect for a chance to relax and recharge!

smileson beaches

miles of golden

You really are spoilt for choice in Southport, as beautiful beaches and stunning coastlines run from Southport, through Ainsdale and Formby to Crosby on the outskirts of Liverpool. The ENCAMS Seaside Award has regularly been awarded to two of Southport’s finest, Ainsdale-on-Sea beach and Formby Point. Both had to pass tough tests on their sand cleanliness and safety equipment to get this coveted accolade. And Ainsdale-on-Sea’s award winning doesn’t stop there! It was the first beach in the north west to win the coveted Blue Flag and it’s one of the top beaches in the UK. The nearby Ainsdale Discovery Centre (open summer only) is a ‘must visit’ as it opens up the beach and sand dune nature reserves to young and old alike. If you’re looking to up the ante, Ainsdale-on-Sea is a favourite for activities such as kite surfing, kite buggying and land boarding. Its flat beaches and shallow shores make it one of the sport’s top venues in the UK.

No trip to Southport beach would be complete without a meander down the picturesque Promenade where you can take in the sights and sounds of this wonderful stretch of traditional seaside.
