LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Alumnae/i and Friends: During the recent Reunion and Homecoming Weekend, I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with more than 300 alums and friends of the College. Witnessing the faithfulness Mount graduates held for each other and the College affirmed something I concluded in the early days of my presidency—that a hallmark of this community is its shared mercy, grace, help, and trust when there are individual and collective struggles. This is truly a place where people “show up” for one another. In this Annual Report, we gratefully acknowledge all those who showed up for the College during the fiscal year 2020-2021. The generosity of the individuals listed in the following pages ensured the College possessed resources to respond, in a mission appropriate manner, to a global health pandemic and the resulting increased financial challenges facing our students and their families. As a result of your partnership—remarkably demonstrated by your response to the Board of Trustees' Alumni and Friends Grant Challenge—the College is emerging from this period strong and ready to meet the needs of learners of every background. Thank you for everything you make possible for the students we serve. The Mount’s vibrant community is one reason why this is the #RightPlaceOnTheRiver and we are delighted to use this Annual Report to highlight others. You will learn why the Mount will remain the right place for first-generation college students and others from groups underserved by higher education, the right place to prepare for a career as a healthcare professional, the right place for the development of the whole person, and the right place for the cultivation of ethical servant leaders devoted to the common good. Again, my sincere thanks for all that you do in support of the College. On a personal level, I offer my gratitude for the warm and enthusiastic welcome I have received from so many of you. Joining the Mount Saint Vincent community, and in the work of this great institution, is a tremendous privilege and joy. I look forward to all that we will achieve together in service to the Mount, its students, its mission, and its values. With appreciation,
Susan R. Burns, Ph.D.

Expanding the Possibilities for Healthcare Professionals The Bronx has the fewest primary care professionals in New York City and the need for more extensive and accessible healthcare services is significant—so Mount Saint Vincent is changing that. We’re excited to share that the College is set to launch its highly anticipated Master of Science in Physician Assistant (PA) Studies— a 28-month program that will be the first of its kind to be registered in the Bronx. The inaugural cohort, comprised of approximately 50 students, is expected to enroll for the Fall 2022 semester. The PA program, reflective of Mount Saint Vincent’s mission and values, will augment the College’s offerings in the healthcare professions—building on its robust programs in nursing and nurse practitioner studies—and will support enrollment and programmatic goals set in our strategic plan. A booming profession, physician assistants, like nurse practitioners, are among the top six healthcare professions expected to see the most growth in the next ten years—and the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts steady increases in the number of PA jobs, both nationally and in New York. “When you factor in career mobility in a variety of settings, plus flexibility that provides a good income whether they choose to work full-time, part-time, or per diem, it adds up to a fantastic return on the educational investment,” said Dr. Anthony Garofalo, Director for the Physician Assistant Program and Associate Professor. “PAs have a very robust job outlook, and a phenomenal career ahead of them—and most new PAs receive multiple job offers even before they graduate.” continued on page 5

Expanding the possibilities continued from page 2
As skilled medical professionals, PAs are now performing many duties that were once considered the sole purview of physicians. While many PAs can be found working in primary care, such as general internal medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine, an increasing number choose specialty areas like general and thoracic surgery, emergency medicine, and orthopedics. “A Mount Saint Vincent education facilitates critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and moral and ethical decision making,” said Dr. Lynne Bongiovanni, Provost and Dean of the College. “These are invaluable skills in any endeavor, but particularly for individuals who aspire to address the complex healthcare needs of our city and state.” The course of study, according to Dr. Bongiovanni “aims to equip students with the knowledge and aptitude to provide effective care to individuals and families of diverse backgrounds and means. Accordingly, the curriculum includes applied medical, behavioral, and social sciences; patient assessment and clinical medicine; supervised clinical practice; and health policy and professional practice issues centered around public health concerns in under-served areas.” But it’s not so simple to just establish a brand-new, in-demand program. PA education programs must also pass the approval of the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA)—an extensive process to confer or deny program accreditation— and the Mount is currently engaged in the final stages of this rigorous process. This accreditation, along with approval from the New York State Education Department, will ensure that our graduates can sit for their Physician Assistant National Certification Examination. The PA program will share two floors of training facilities in Corazon C. Aquino ’53 Hall—which is nearing completion—including regular use of the College’s state-of-the-art simulation laboratories. Joining them will be undergraduate and graduate students in the Mount’s pre-professional programs in nursing. This will include studies leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, via traditional undergraduate and accelerated
second-degree tracks, and a Master of Science in Nursing in Family Nurse Practitioner (individuals already holding a master’s degree in nursing have the option to complete the Family Nurse Practitioner concentration as an Advanced Certificate). Additional master’s degree concentrations and advanced certificates in allied healthcare fields are projected to be phased in sometime in the future. An immediate benefit of the new facility and programming is the opportunity to offer more options for students to practice working as part of a highly skilled medical team, as physician assistants are educated in a collaborative, team approach—an emerging trend in the health sciences. “The health sciences rely on strong interprofessional relationships,” said Dr. Garofalo. “Practitioners frequently deal with complex cases that require referrals to, or collaboration with, other healthrelated services and specialties, such as
OT, PT, social workers, or behavioral health practitioners. It’s exciting to contemplate the range of possibilities for this advanced level, multi-disciplinary training.” And as we enter the home stretch to unveil this new program, we know it will benefit not only the College, but, in particular, the surrounding Bronx community. “The College’s strong foundation in nursing, which includes both undergraduate and graduate programs leading to a degree or advanced certificate, will serve as the backbone of this new era of training for in-demand health professionals,” said Dr. Susan Apold, Dean of Nursing. “We eagerly anticipate the array of opportunities to further expand the College’s offerings in the professional health sciences. Meeting the demand for these exceptionally trained professionals will further solidify the Mount’s position as a leader in the field of healthcare education.”

Mount Saint Vincent has an enduring and celebrated history as an institution committed to serving the needs of each and every student to walk through the campus gate on the corner of 263rd Street and Riverdale Avenue. Part of that commitment to teaching and learning has been what President Susan R. Burns, Ph.D., refers to as “meeting students when and where they need us.” Higher education faces a challenging shift in climate as we begin to redefine what is referred to as the “traditional” college student to include a network of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds. It’s time for colleges and universities across the country to stop counting on students to adapt to an antiquated education system and begin actively providing learners with the academic and advising supports they need for achievement and retention. To no surprise, Mount Saint Vincent has been a frontrunner in creating that path to graduation for all students. Even as the College continues to grow, develop, and expand, serving the needs of our students remains paramount. More and more learners from diverse communities dream of earning a degree and the Mount has become an engine for turning those dreams into a reality.
That success has been due in part to the Mount’s vibrant network of student support services. With a mission of helping to develop the whole person, advisors challenge their students to exercise their minds, as well as their hearts. Mount Saint Vincent pushes learners to pursue their passions, while providing them with stepby-step guidance to set a plan and see it through. We meet our students when and where they need us. That’s why, in an effort to expand our resources and facilities, the second floor of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Library has been transformed into an integrated student support, tutoring, and study environment— ready and equipped to house the Oxley Integrated Advising Program, the Academic Resource Center, and the slate of Mount Pathways Programs. “The renovated space in the Elizabeth Ann Seton Library is the epicenter of academic advising and support on campus,” said Dr. Burns. “It makes an exceptional education not only possible, but attainable for both current students and generations of those to come. Resources located in the new space, coupled with our dedicated staff members and advisors in Academic Affairs, provide all students—regardless of family background or need—with the environment and support they need to thrive.” continued on page 14

ALUMNI & FRIENDS GRANT CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC, Mount Saint Vincent successfully positioned itself as a leader on COVID safety. However, during the 2020-2021 year, the College was once again unable to host its annual Scholarship Tribute Dinner, which raises essential funds for institutional scholarships and financial aid awards. The loss of the event was especially significant because the pandemic created additional financial challenges for students and their families. Between March 2020 and May 2021, one out of every five Mount undergraduates sought a financial aid appeal. Trustees of the College responded to this need by pledging $250,000 and inviting the Mount’s alumnae/i and friends to match the figure. Once again, this community responded selflessly and enthusiastically, meeting and exceeding the match amount to raise a cumulative $562,600. Anonymous (8)

MARISA HANSEN ’23 knew the Mount was the best fit for her—the Right Place on the River—from the moment she first stepped on campus. Her family would not have been able to afford Marisa’s exceptional education at Mount Saint Vincent if it weren’t for the generous Alumni and Friends Grants she received. Those grants have given her the opportunity to be a resident student on campus, allowing her to move out of the small apartment she shares with five other family members and providing her with a quiet space to study. She’s also been able to flourish as a student leader, assuming roles as president of the Campus Activities Board, vice president for the Class of 2023, and secretary of the Science Club, among others. Marisa’s got a bright future ahead of her, aspiring to follow in her family’s footsteps and join the armed forces. Her grandfather served in the Army and her dad as a Marine, and her sister is currently in the Army. Marisa—a biology major—hopes to one day land a career as a laboratory scientist for the United States Navy. But she’ll never forget the academic guidance and financial support she got from the College.
“I’m forever grateful for the Alumni and Friends Grants I was awarded,” said Marisa. “Your generosity has given me a home at the Mount—a place celebrated for its diversity and small class sizes. Thank you giving me a chance to thrive!”

Not only is DORIAN ROBINSON ’22 one of the star players of the College’s men’s basketball team, he’s also a head tour guide for the Office of Admission, vice president of the Dolphin Difference Coalition, and a First Year Experience peer leader. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dorian took a leap of faith traveling across the country to attend college in New York as a communication major—and it was the best decision he ever made. But affording to go to an out-of-state school— especially a small, private, liberal arts college with an emphasis on the development of the whole person— would have been impossible for Dorian without the help of Alumni and Friends Grants.
“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the Alumni and Friends Grants I received,” explained Dorian. “Your generosity has helped not only me, but every single member of the College community. Mount students change lives, and your support has ignited that passion in all of us.” Gifts to the Alumni and Friends Grant Challenge have given students like Dorian the resources needed to launch his career as a sports journalist. But he can’t look toward the future without thinking about the present, and the scholarships Dorian’s received have—without a doubt—taken a great deal of financial pressure off him and his family. Dorian’s words to everyone who selflessly gave to the Alumni and Friends Grant Challenge are simple: “Thank you.”

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT FELIX PAULINO ’23 is forever indebted to the generous donors who supported the Alumni and Friends Grants he’s received. A first-generation college student from the Bronx, Felix never thought attending college—let alone a top-ranked, mission-driven institution like the Mount—would have been possible.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to study at a college close to my home, where I have access to all the resources I need to create my future,” said Felix. “I’m able to continue to help my mom and family financially while I study, which is very important to me.” Felix is involved in countless activities both within and beyond the classroom at the Mount, including advocating for his fellow campus commuters as a Commuter Assistant; playing on the men’s volleyball team; serving as a member of the CMSV Players, RAW Fashion club, and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee; and the list goes on… With a passion for real estate, Felix plans on putting his study of business into action following graduation in just about a year and a half. He has a dream of, one day, opening a real estate agency of his own—teaching younger generations all the skills and knowledge he gained from his start at the Mount. Your support of the Alumni and Friends Grant Challenge has made the Mount a place where all dreams are welcome—for Felix, for his peers, and for each and every student who will walk through the campus gate on Riverdale Avenue.

Student Success continued from page 7
The library is now the new home of our Oxley Integrating Advising Program, which oversees advising and academic resources on campus. Named for alumna Geraldine Motta Oxley ’51, an insurance industry pioneer and generous benefactor of the College, the program leads the region in career education—earning recognition year after year from Colleges of Distinction in the career development category. Advisors in the Oxley Program help students appreciate their strengths and interests, understand the value and range of opportunities associated with their strengths, and strategize how to translate what they love into a meaningful career. Advising at Mount Saint Vincent is twofold. Not only are students paired with an academic advisor from the faculty to help guide their study of a particular major or field of study, students are also paired with a career advisor from the Oxley Program—who closely follows each student throughout his or her four years of study and offers invaluable advice in career development, internship opportunities, and graduate school applications. “The Oxley Integrating Advising Program is unique,” said Dr. Gabrielle Occhiogrosso, Dean of the Undergraduate College. “Support for our students begins at orientation and continues through graduation—and even beyond. Oxley advisors encourage their students to explore, expand, and excel as they select their courses and a field of study, consider internships, and apply for jobs or graduate school. There’s no other program like it in the nation—the Oxley Program is a catalyst for student support and success.” Returning to the library in its updated space is the College’s Academic Resource Center, or ARC. The ARC provides individualized or small group tutoring to all enrolled students at the College, free of charge. Students can meet with a peer or professional tutor to review course content and papers, prepare for classwork or tests, learn note-taking and textbook reading techniques, and organize projects. Plus, the ARC also offers specialty workshops, writing support,

and reinforcement of study skills, aiding students across the disciplines with the assistance they need to flourish in their classes.
sacrifices many of their families make to send their children to college will no longer be a factor in stifling our students dreams and passions.
Also joining the Oxley Integrated Advising Program and Academic Resource Center in the library are our three Mount Pathways Programs—HEOP, TRiO, and MAP—which open doors for students from groups typically underserved by higher education or who might otherwise not have the possibility of a true college experience.
The library renovation project was largely funded in part by a New York State and Municipal Facilities Grant—which was secured through the advocacy of New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi. The grant, totaling $500,000, will be combined with funds from the estate of alumna Helen Stafford Curry ’35. Throughout her lifetime, Helen was strongly committed to student success and upward mobility at the Mount. She funded the development of the Curry Center in Founders Hall—a studentcentered “one-stop-shop” for the Registrar’s Office, Bursar, and Financial Aid—and has contributed a generous amount of money to establish the Saint Vincent’s SAFE Fund, an endowment that provides the College a resource to assist students in crisis or with emergency needs.
HEOP students benefit in an array of academic and personal supports in order to make the transition to college less strenuous. Sponsored by a federallyfunded grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the TRiO Student Support Services program has been a hallmark of student support on campus since 1997, improving the retention of firstgeneration, low-income learners at the College. And MAP—or the Mount Access Program—is designed for students who demonstrate the potential and motivation to succeed in college, but whose SAT/ACT scores and high school records are below the normal admission requirements for enrollment at the Mount. Seeking to offer access to an exceptional education for every motivated student, these Pathway Programs afford students—from a multitude of cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and ability backgrounds—the support needed to complete their degrees. At the Mount, success is theirs to seize. The space includes offices for advisors and Academic Affairs staff members, computer labs, quiet study spaces, and student lounges. These areas will make it possible for students to have a safe space to study, grow, and thrive among the College community. All Mount students are ambitious and determined, and the
“The Mount’s mission and values call us to meet learners when and where they need us,” continued Dr. Burns. “Living that mission means more than just offering longer office hours or extra credit sessions. It means deeply listening to our students when they're struggling, celebrating with them when they accomplish a goal, and helping them develop a plan to achieve their personal and professional dreams—and put that plan into action. Our newly designed space in the Elizabeth Ann Seton Library has been intentionally reimagined to encourage students, faculty, staff, and administrators to interact with each other in a way that allows for the development of meaningful relationships that we know are critical to learners’ success, in and beyond the classroom.”

Senior student MIGUEL LOSA ’22 appreciates the diversity of the Mount’s campus and has fully immersed himself in all of the opportunities—both academically and co-curricularly—the College has to offer. But none of his success would be possible without the Alumni and Friends Grants he was awarded from generous donors. Miguel, who’s double majoring in art history and studio art, has a goal of becoming an art conservator and restorer—working diligently to study every detail of famous pieces of art and refurbish them back to their original beauty. Coming to Mount Saint Vincent has also allowed Miguel to form deeper connections with his Filipino roots. He picked up a minor in Philippine studies and currently serves as president of SAMAHAN, a club founded to aid students in advancing and embracing their Filipino heritage. He’s also assumed several leadership roles on campus, including serving as a senator for the Class of 2022, playing on the men’s volleyball team, acting as a member of the CMSV Players, and working as a Resident Assistant.
“I am grateful to the College’s donors for supporting me in my education and my professional development as both a student and a leader on campus,” Miguel explained. “Not only have the Alumni and Friends Grants I’ve received aided me and my family financially, they’ve also motivated me to continue to strive for the best in my future at the Mount and beyond.” 18

CENTENNIAL SOCIETY WE GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE our Centennial Society donors—alumnae/i and friends who have made long-range or planned gifts to the College. Such gifts include bequests, life insurance, appreciated securities, retirement funds, charitable gift annuities, real estate, and personal property.
CENTENNIAL SOCIETY SPOTLIGHT
LIZ BROWN, M.D., B.S. '68
Elizabeth "Liz" R. Brown, Class of 1968, is an avowed snowbird, traveling annually between her summer home in Silver Lake, New Hampshire and her winter home in Port Charlotte, Florida. She is active in both communities, planning golf outings and social gatherings, some of which raise funds for college scholarships. Her enthusiastic support of her alma mater is many-layered: she co-chairs the College’s Science Advisory Committee, has served as a Mount Mentor, and stays in touch with other Mount alumnae. A distinguished neonatologist, Liz earned her M.D. from the University of Maryland and trained in Boston at Harvard Medical School’s Joint Program in Neonatology. After training, she was invited to join the staff as a clinical physician in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, pursuing an abiding research interest in fetal and newborn lung development for many years before retiring in 2008. As a member of the esteemed Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance, a program of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Liz helps the organization provide opportunities for Kellogg Fellows around the world to make a positive impact through a wide variety of social justice initiatives. Liz has also been quite creative in making charitable contributions to the College. She has named Mount Saint Vincent among the residual beneficiaries of a trust she set up, and in 2016, she named the College as one of the beneficiaries of her Individual Retirement Account (IRA). Her initial pledge allowed her to establish the Dr. Elizabeth R. Brown Scholarship, which she augments annually through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from her IRA. Liz’s annual QCD withdrawals help to satisfy her required minimum distribution (RMD), and since the contributions are used for charitable purposes, the gift doesn’t count as income, thus reducing Liz’s annual income level and providing another tax advantage.

CENTENNIAL SOCIETY SPOTLIGHT
PEGGY STEFFANN '65
Peggy Steffann, Class of 1965, decided to attend the College of Mount Saint Vincent after hearing her mother, a 1939 graduate, speak glowingly about her own experiences here. Knowing her mother had maintained friendships with many classmates over her 97 years, Peggy did likewise. She has attended every class reunion since her 1965 graduation, has maintained connections and close friendships with many classmates, and has been actively involved with the Alumnae/i Association since 2015. She is currently its President. Peggy retired in 2007 after a 42-year career in social work that began almost immediately after graduation. Armed with her Mount degree and an M.S.W. from Fordham University, she worked with children and families in foster care and adoption, residential placements, and other services, first as a social worker and later as a supervisor and administrator. Over the years, Peggy has observed much growth and many changes at the Mount. One aspect has remained constant: “The Mount continues to strive for academic excellence and student success,” she says. “I see the College reaching out to an increasingly more diverse student body, providing quality education in a supportive environment.” Peggy wanted to make a gift to the Mount that would help maintain the excellence and affordability of a Mount Saint Vincent education in the years to come. As a longtime contributor to the work of the Alumnae/i Association, she wanted to ensure her contributions would continue. She chose to accomplish this by naming the College in her will as a beneficiary of a portion of her estate. In this way, Peggy hopes to enhance the impact that her many years of service and support will have on future generations of students.

SISTERS OF CHARITY IN 1847, THE SISTERS OF CHARITY OF NEW YORK founded the College of Mount Saint Vincent to provide excellent liberal arts education in the Catholic tradition, preparing students for lives of professional accomplishment and service. With great pride, we strive to fulfill this mission. In the tradition of the Sisters of Charity, we ask everyone who works at the College to be committed to this fundamental purpose: to educate the whole person, to take part in a lively conversation with religious faith, and to engender a dedication to service. Listed here are Sisters who, during the past year, have lent their talent, wisdom, and spirit in a variety of capacities to work on behalf of the College. With immense gratitude, we acknowledge and celebrate their leadership, dedication, and commitment to Mount Saint Vincent. THE RIGHT PLACE FOR... Service to the Local Community At the conclusion of Reunion and Homecoming Weekend—on October 17, 2021—the College officially installed Susan R. Burns, Ph.D. as the sixth president of Mount Saint Vincent. The celebration, which included a Mass offered by Rev. Dennis Holtschneider, President of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, was a way for the entire Mount community to reaffirm our mission, review our history, and reignite our values.
“I recently graduated from the College,” noted Jordan. “And I was looking for a way to not only continue my relationship with both the Mount and the Sisters, but to serve the community that had given me so much over the last four years. Working as the Coordinator of Vincent’s Table is a humbling experience for me, and it’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of Saint Vincent de Paul.”
As part of that renewal, the College has partnered with our foundresses, the Sisters of Charity of New York, to establish a new outreach program to the local community. Recognizing that people living in the area around the Mount’s campus need help, leadership from both the College and the Congregation have joined together to address food insecurity for individuals and families in the northwest Bronx and southern Yonkers through a new program— Vincent’s Table.
Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical, calls the faithful to express a shared responsibility to care for the earth—our common home. The Sisters of Charity have adopted the period between September 2021 and August 2022 as a year to alleviate the cries of the earth Pope Francis outlines in Laudato Si’—and specifically to continue to serve the poor. The Congregation and College have a long-standing obligation to helping our brothers and sisters in need through a commitment to Vincentian/ Setonian values. “The work we’re doing at Vincent’s Table aligns profoundly with both the missions of the College and the Congregation led by the works of Saint Vincent de Paul, aiming to restore dignity to all individuals and serve the people who need it most,” explained Sr. Maggie Kelly. Staffed by Srs. Maggie Kelly and Mary Lou McGrath, and lead by Mount alum and Coordinator Jordan Douglas ’21, the program has a simple mission: Vincent’s Table responds to the needs of those who face food insecurity and homelessness in the northwest Bronx and Yonkers by providing them with nourishing food and other assistance when possible, while recognizing the dignity and value of each individual.
But Vincent’s Table is committed to more than just addressing the needs of those in the local Bronx and Yonkers areas; it also offers a way for members of the Mount community to live out the College’s mission and get involved with hunger and homelessness advocacy. “We already had over 100 students who participated in summer programs through HEOP, MAP, and TRiO help organize the space in Rosary Hall and sort through clothing and supply donations,” said Matthew Shields, Director for Mission and Ministry. “The College’s annual Month of Service, held over the months of September and October, brought in countless other student volunteers from the Mount—making sandwiches, sorting donations, and getting ready to help with distributions.” Sisters of the Charity living at Mount Saint Vincent Convent also have opportunities to volunteer with Vincent’s Table. Just a short walk across the street, Sisters have been eager to get involved and help further the Congregation’s centuries-long commitment to the ministry of hospitality.
With that, the Vincent’s Table team hit the ground running and has been hard at work seeking out vendors and establishing partnerships in the Riverdale and Yonkers communities. Jordan’s diligently organizing distribution lines, working to secure grants, and developing communication plans to let those in the local community know that Vincent’s Table is here to help. The first floor of Rosary Hall, across from the Convent and adjacent to the Great Lawn on the Mount’s campus, used to serve as a residence for Sisters. With plenty of empty storage space, a kitchen, a living room to meet (and permission from Sr. Donna Dodge, President of the Sisters of Charity), the group transformed part of Rosary Hall into their home base. The space now houses a food pantry, clothing closet, and offices for staff and volunteers.
Vincent’s Table has only just begun to make a small impact in addressing the needs of the local community around the Mount Saint Vincent campus. And after much planning, the first distribution event took place during the first week of November—enabling over 200 individuals and families to have the food and supplies they need to gather and celebrate the holidays. Weekly distributions will continue to take place in local church and organization parking lots, allowing the program to reach the hands—and stomachs—of those who need their help. “There’s a quote from Elizabeth Ann Seton, something along the lines of: ‘The front door, the back door, the side door that leads to the chapel…all the windows, upstairs and downstairs, open at your coming,’” said Sr. Mary Lou. “We might not be gathering in a chapel, but we’re gathering in the street— just like Saint Vincent de Paul did. Though Vincent’s Table, we’re opening all the doors to get food and supplies to those who need it in the local area around the Mount’s campus. And we won’t stop until everyone’s been fed.”

GRANTS & CONTRACTS GOVERNMENT AWARDS During 2020-2021, the College received $9,756,559 in pandemic relief grant funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and American Rescue Plan Act, dispersed by the U.S. Department of Education. Half of the funds are allocated in emergency grants to students and the balance of funds are being utilized to address the operational challenges the College faces as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2020, the College began a new five-year SSS TRiO grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The College received $331,000 in the year to provide counseling, academic support, career and financial guidance, and

mentoring to 160 eligible students. The College will receive $1.6 million in funding over the course of the grant period, which runs through August 2025. In March 2021, the College received notification of a $467,739 New York State Higher Education Capital Matching Program grant to support acquisition of health simulation laboratories. In October 2020, the College began the third of a five-year National Science Foundation Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Students. activities for 22 students pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. The grant will provide $959,955 over five years. The 2020-2021 academic year was the second year of a five-year award to operate a New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). The program is designed for students who have the potential and drive to further their education, but due to limited academic and financial resources, would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend college. The grant authorized $1,350,000 for 2020-2021, with cumulative funds awarded totaling $6,750,000 through 2024.
In 2020-2021, the College continued to advance the work of its second grant project funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). The College has been awarded $299,950, cumulatively through 2022, to implement systems and educational activities that reduce sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. FOUNDATION AWARDS The Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities made an award of $15,000. The grant, made in memory of Yvonne Raskob, supported scholarships for nursing students. The Arthur Williams Residuary Trust awarded the College $28,750 in scholarship funding for nursing students.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING Generations of donors contribute annually to keep the College of Mount Saint Vincent strong, and their dedicated support allows the Mount to continue its mission for future students as well. There are many opportunities for giving to the College and gifts can take several forms. Most contributions also provide the donor with an income tax deduction for the year of the gift. Please carefully consider the many options available for your future giving.
ANNUAL FUND An Annual Fund gift is an opportunity to provide an unrestricted contribution to the Mount. The Annual Fund supports all areas of the College, including financial aid, faculty development, buildings and grounds maintenance, student activities, and upgraded technology programs. CAPITAL GIFTS Capital gifts are designated by the donor to fund the College’s capital needs, such as construction and renovation projects.
SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships give talented and deserving students the opportunity to afford a Mount education. Gifts can be made to a general scholarship fund or to the Scholarship Tribute Dinner to benefit all scholarships. An endowed scholarship can be named and will support future generations of students.
WAYS TO GIVE CASH Gifts of cash immediately benefit the College. Checks, cash, and contributions made through a donor’s MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express credit or debit card are gratefully accepted. SECURITIES Like cash contributions, a gift of securities entitles the donor to an income tax deduction in the year it is given. The most convenient way to give a gift of securities is to arrange a transfer by a broker to the College’s account. To make a gift of securities, contact the College’s broker: The Lerner Group Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc. 225 Liberty Street | 39th Floor | New York, NY 10281 212.236.5583 CORPORATE MATCHING GIFTS Many businesses have matching gift programs, which can double or even triple a gift to the College. They are easy to arrange and are of no cost to the donor. Please contact your employer’s human resources office for more information about matching gifts.
PLANNED GIFTS Planned gifts are popular and creative ways to support the Mount and can allow you to receive significant financial benefits during your lifetime. BEQUESTS You may include the Mount in your will by designating a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate to the College. PLEASE REMEMBER: • Any gift can be made in honor of or in memory of someone special. • In order to receive a charitable income tax deduction for this calendar year, gifts must be postmarked by December 31. All credit card gifts must be processed by December 31 as well. • The IRA charitable rollover allows taxpayers age 70 ½ or older to make tax-free charitable gifts of up to $100,000 per year directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts to eligible charities, including colleges, universities, and independent schools. To make a gift via the IRA Charitable Rollover, please contact your IRA plan administrator. • Gifts can be made online at mountsaintvincent.edu/giving
