その一瞬を大切に生きる
まだその時点では、演技を必要とするオペラは 意識の中にはなかったんですよ （笑） 東京藝術大学音楽学部声楽科を経て、 同大学院 先月、｢Opéra de Montreal｣にて上演されたイタ 独唱専攻を修了した後、 思うところあってイタリ リア・オペラの傑作「SIMON BOCCANEGRA」 で、アメリア役を見事に演じて地元のオペラファ アのミラノに4年間留学をしました。毎晩のよう にスカラ座でオペラを見ているうちに、自然と自 ンを魅了してくれた大村博美さん。 2年前に上演された「マダム・バタフライ」での蝶 分でも演じたいと思うようになっていました。も 々夫人も、内外の批評家をおおいにうならせ、自 ちろん、学生でしたので見ていたのはロッジョー と言われている一番上の席からで 身の当たり役としての評価を決定付けた。今回 ネ（天井桟敷） したけど、 とても楽しく て貴重な経験でした。 は、大村さんに独占インタビューをし、その生き 方に夢を叶える秘訣を探ってみた。 ――オペラ歌手になれたのはどうしてだと思いま すか？ ――モントリオールの印象は？ 私はもともと、遠くの岸にたどり着くためにただ みなさんがとっても気さくで、会って間もない人 がむしゃらに必死に泳ぐよりも、自分が泳ぐこと でも気軽に挨拶を交わすことができるのがいい を楽しみながら近くのブイを目指して泳ぎ、 イル ですね。公演の約2週間前からモントリオール入 カに遭遇したら一緒に遊んで楽しむみたいな感 りしてリハーサルを行っていましたが、稽古場の （目標）まで泳 雰囲気もよくて、気持ちよく練習に取り組むこと じかな（笑）それからまた先のブイ ぐ。 目の前にある小さな目標、 それを一つ一つ達 ができました。北米のエネルギッシュさとヨーロ 「今の ッパの優雅さがここで交わって、文化や芸術にい 成することを大切にしてきました。そして、 自分が出来る限りの、 いい歌を歌いたい」 そう思 い影響を与えていると感じます。 ってずっとやってきました。そうしたら、気がつい たらいつの間にか扉が開いてその先の場所に進 ――オペラ歌手になりたいと思ったのはいつ頃？ んでいた、 という感じでした。初心忘れるべから 両親が大のオペラ好きで、特に父はイタリアのテ ずと言いますが、 舞台に立つときも、私はいつも ノール歌手マリオ・デル＝モナコのレコードを毎 今日が初日だと思って臨んでいます。 日のように聴いていました。私は5歳の頃に洗礼 を受けて、週末は両親と一緒に教会へ賛美歌を 歌いに行ったりはしていましたが、最初に興味を 持って始めたのはバイオリンでした。 それを15歳 まで続けていたのですが、大学受験を目指す頃 となり、当時、習っていた東京藝術大学の教授に バイオリンでの音大受験は難しいと言われてし まい、 さてどうしようと悩んでいました。 私の通っていた高校では、音楽教育に力を入れ ていたので、声楽家でもあった三浦智津子先生 に付いて声楽を始めてみたのです。バイオリン を習っているときは、音楽を難しくとらえていたと ころがありました。毎日、毎日、上達するために練 習を積み重ねていくことが辛く思えることもあり ました。 ところが、三浦先生は私に「音楽は楽しい ことなのよ。気持ちよいときに自然と歌を歌いた くなる。人を愛しく思う気持ちを表すために歌を 歌う。その気持ちを大切にすればいいのよ」 と教 えてくれました。それから、自由に歌うことの楽し さを実感できるようになったと思います。でも、

――今、一番大切にしていることはなんですか？ 一瞬一瞬を大切に生きたいと思っています。そ の日出会った人、その日見た風景、その瞬間に感 謝する心を忘れないようにしていきたいです。 ま た、いつでも最大の集中力が発揮できるように、 常に「体」 と 「心」をベストな状態にしておきたい ですね。 世界的なオペラ歌手でありながら、気さくで純 真，古風ながらも凛とした顔立ちは、まさに大和 撫子そのもの。話し相手を気持ちよくさせてくれ るのは、大村さんの度量の広さに他ならない。 自分は何をしたいのか？何を目指しているのか？ そう悩んでいるあなたに、大村さんの生き方が ひとつのヒントを与えてくれるに違いない。

À moment je vécus préciusement Le mois dernier à l’Opéra de Montréal, il y avait une présentation du chef d’oeuvre italien « Simon Boccanegra ». Le role d’Amelia a été magnifiquement joué par Mme Hiromi Omura qui a envoûté plusieurs japonais dans le monde d’opéra. Deux ans auparavant, alors d’une présentation de la pièce « Madame Butterfly », elle avait interprété le rôle de Cio-Cio-San, la femme d’un aristocrate. Suite à une pluie de critiques qui l’acclamaient pour son excellente représentation du personnage, celles-ci lui ont donné un grand sens de la détermination et de la confiance en elle-même. Pour cette fois, j’ai concentré l’entrevue pas seulement sur Mme Omura, mais surtout sur sa manière secrète de vivre et de réaliser ses rêves. Quelle est votre impression de Montréal?
Live every moment Last month at the Opéra de Montreal, Ms. Hiromi Omura performed magnificently as Amelia in “SIMON BOCCANEGRA.” She fascinated local Opera fans in this Italian masterpiece. When she played “Madam Butterfly” two years ago, Ms. Omura greatly impressed the critics at home and abroad, and received an outstanding evaluation. We are fortunate to have had an exclusive interview with Ms. Omura, and to have explored the key to making one’s dream come true from her perspective. -----What are your impressions of Montreal? Everyone is very friendly, and I like the way Montrealers exchange greetings with people they’ve just met. I came to Montreal just 2 weeks before the show opened, but the backstage atmosphere was so pleasant that I had no trouble settling in at rehearsal. I feel that art and culture in Montreal are made unique by a mixture of North American energy and European elegance.
----How do you think you became an Opera singer? I regard small, reachable accomplishments as important. For example, I would much rather enjoy swimming somewhere nearby than swim really hard to get to a point which is far away. If I found a dolphin, I would prefer to play with it before moving on to another place. In the same way, I used to only want to sing to the best of my ability. However, before I realized it, a window of opportunity had opened, and this allowed me to progress. People often say that you should not forget your beginnings, and I always treat every performance as if it were my first.
À quand remonte votre désir de vouloir être chanteuse d’opéra? Mes parents étaient de grands amateurs d’opéra, particulièrement mon père qui écoutait un disque d’un ténor italien nommé Mario Del Monaco à tous les jours. Vers mes cinq ans, j’ai reçu mon baptême quand mes parents et moi allions à l’église les fins de semaines et chantions le livre de cantiques. Néanmoins, mon principal intérêt a d’abord été le violon. J’ai pratiqué le violon jusqu’à l’âge de quinze ans avant la préparation des examens d’entrée universitaire. L’école pour laquelle je préparais l’examen, l’Université d’Art de Tokyo (Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku), m’avait dit que passer l’examen d’entrée au violon était particulièrement difficile; ceci m’avait beaucoup inquiété. L’école secondaire que je fréquentais était reconnue en matière d’enseignement de la musique et du chant; donc, j’ai décidé de m’entraîner auprès de la vocaliste Chizuko Miura, qui est devenue ma professeure. Mon apprentissage du violon m’avait fait percevoir la musique comme étant un domaine ardu. À tous les jours, sans exception, je pratiquais le violon sans arrêt dans le but de devenir meilleure. Ceci me mettait beaucoup de pression et me laissait peu de joie. Par contre, ma professeure Chizuko Miura m’a appris que : « La musique est une chose plaisante.
-----What is the most important thing for you now? I would like to live treating every moment as thought it were precious. I try not to forget the people I have met, the places I have seen, and I make sure to treasure every moment. Also, in order to be able to give my utmost at any time, I try to keep my body and mind in the best possible condition.
Présentement, quelle est la chose la plus importante pour vous? Je crois que je chéris chaque instant qui passe. Les personnes que j’ai rencontrées, les paysages que j’ai vus, je veux me souvenir de chaque petite chose qui arrive et les remercier de tout mon coeur. En même temps, je veux m’améliorer continuellement pour réaliser mon plein potentiel. Je crois qu’en étant une chanteuse d’opéra mondialement reconnue, je dois représenter les vertus de mon héritage Japonais tout en demeurant franche et ouverte d’esprit. Le plaisir qu’on ressent quand on est l’interlocuteur de Mme Omura est un signe de sa générosité, qui ne connaît pas d’égal. Qu’est-ce que je veux faire avec ma vie? Est-ce que je cours vers un but? Pour ceux qui ressentent ces inquiétudes, je crois que suivre l’exemple de Mme Omura pourrait être une bonne idée.

For a world-wide Opera singer, Ms. Hiromi Omura is very friendly and pure at heart. Her generous nature makes the people she speaks with feel relaxed. Her dignified looks are also the epitome of a Yamato Nadeshiko, the ideal Japanese woman.
Pour moi c’était un choix naturel. De mon point de vue, c’était préférable de nager à ma façon et de m’amuser en gardant un oeil sur une bouée au lieu de nager à contre courant et de m’épuiser sans avoir aucun point d’arrivée en vue. C’est comme si je rencontrais un dauphin, nous pourrions nager ensemble. À partir de là je pourrais continuer jusqu’à mon but. Devant moi, il y avait des petites cibles importantes à atteindre; petit à petit je les ai atteintes. Aussi, je me disais, « je veux chanter aussi bien que mes capacités me le permettent ». C’est ce sentiment qui m’a poussé au fil du temps. C’est en faisant cela que j’ai réalisé que j’avais parcouru un long chemin. On dit qu’on ne doit jamais oublier nos origines, même lorsque nous sommes sur la scène, je m’en souviens à chaque fois.

Pourquoi avez-vous décidé de devenir chanteuse d’opéra?

----When did you realize you wanted to be an Opera singer? Both of my parents are big Opera fans. My father listened to the Italian tenor Mario Del Monaco almost every day. I was baptized when I was 5 years old, and went to church with my parents to sing hymns every weekend. However I was initially interested in the violin, so I studied violin until I was 15 years old. While I was preparing for my university entrance exam, my teacher at the Tokyo University of the Arts told me that my skill was not good enough to pass the exam. My high school placed an emphasis on music, so I began to take vocal lessons from Ms. Chizuko Miura. While I was learning the violin, I thought that studying music was difficult, so at times I felt that it was hard to practice everyday to improve. However, Ms. Miura told me: “Music is fun. When you feel good, you automatically want to sing a song. You sing to express your feelings for people you care for. You should cherish that feeling.” From then on, I began to enjoy singing freely. However, I still had no intention of becoming an Opera singer. After studying in the department of vocal music, I graduated with a Master’s degree from the Tokyo University of the Arts, and went to Italy to study in Milan for 4 years. I watched the Opera at the Teatro Alla Scala almost every night. As I was a student, I watched Opera from

Lorsqu’on se sent bien, on éprouve un désir naturel de vouloir chanter. On chante pour transmettre nos sentiments envers une personne qu’on aime. Ce sentiment devrait être considéré comme précieux. » Je crois que c’est à partir de ce moment-là que j’ai ressenti pour la première fois du plaisir à chanter, mais je ne songeais pas encore à participer dans un opéra. C’était pendant que j’étais à l’Université d’Art de Tokyo dans la faculté de musique, en chant, que j’ai réfléchi à aller étudier à l’étranger. Après avoir complété mes études universitaires suivies d’une concentration comme soliste au niveau supérieur, j’ai été étudier à Milan pendant quatre ans. À tous les soirs, j’allais au Teatro Alla Scala, et le désir de vouloir participer dans une pièce est venu tout seul. Bien sûr, étant étudiante, je ne pouvais regarder le spectacle qu’à partir de la loge la plus élevée, mais j’arrivais néanmoins à apprécier cette merveilleuse expérience.

I have only been to Japan once so far and, although I only spent 4 and a half days in Tokyo I still consider myself very lucky because I used that time to the fullest. I went at the end of November 2007. Tokyo as everyone knows is such a large city, inconceivably so in comparison to our Canadian towns. I have so many good memories from that trip but my fondest was from my visit to Asakusa.
私が東京を訪れたのはたった１度です。 しかも４日半という短い時 間でしたが、その限られた時間をフルに使いきった自分はとてもラ ッキーだといまだに思っています。私が訪れたのは2007年の11月末 でした。誰もが知っている東京は、我がカナダのどの都市とも比べ物 にならない巨大都市です。私はその旅でたくさんの素敵な思い出を 作りましたが、一番のお気に入りは浅草めぐりです。
Je ne suis allée au Japon qu’une fois et bien que je n’ai passé que 4 jours et demi à Tokyo, je me considère quand même chanceuse car j’ai beaucoup fait durant mon séjour. J’y suis allée à la fin Novembre 2007. Tokyo, tel qu’on le connaît, est une ville énorme, un véritable contraste avec les villes canadiennes. J’ai de bons souvenirs de mon voyage mais mon préféré est ma visite à Asakusa.
I had just seen the imperial gardens, eaten some maguro zuke,don, and was planning to go to Tokyo Tower when my mother (who had been many times) insisted we visit Asakusa. Funny enough, at first I was not at all enthusiastic because I was only focused on seeing Tokyo Tower, which is why arriving in Asakusa was an indescribable surprise. It is a more traditional part of the city off the Ginza line and, before the popularity of Shinjuku, was a favorite destination for entertainment. It is a magnificent area, lined with stores, restaurants, ryokan, temples, etc; There is even, near Asakusa in Kappabashi Dori, stores that sell plastic food items for restaurants!
皇居庭園を訪れ、マグロ丼を頂き、次は東京タワーへ行こうとしてい た時、すでに何度も東京を訪れている母親に浅草に行かなきゃと強 く勧められたのです。東京タワーに行くことだけを考えていた私は全 く興味が湧かなかったのですが、浅草に着いて衝撃を受けました。 銀座線のはずれにある伝統的な町並みで、新宿の人の多さを考える とお気に入りのデスティネーションです。お店やレストラン、旅館や 寺院が立ち並ぶすばらしいエリアで、浅草のすぐそばにある合羽橋 通りではレストランに飾られるプラスティックの料理サンプルまでが 売られています。
However, the sight that is not to miss is the Senso-ji temple. To enter you must first pass through the sea of rickshaw men and the occasional kimono wearing women, and go through the Kaminarimon; The latter are tall gates with a giant lantern in the middle and statues on the side. You will then be led through Nakamisedori, a street way lined with shops selling everything from cell phone charms, kabuki masks, food, j-pop poster and I know not what! It is well worth taking your time exploring each store in Nakamise-dori as you will find items that not only please tourists but also locals, and make great gifts to bring home, also I recommend eating the plum ice cream; The taste is unlike anything we have in Canada, light and sweet but still very flavourfull,there is no comparison. The area with the Senso-ji also comprises a pagoda for Senso-ji, and the Asakusa shrine, the first being a Buddhist temple and the latter a Shinto shrine.
しかし、必ず見逃してはならないのが浅草寺です。中へ入るには、 ま ず人力車の男たちや特別に着物で着飾った女性たちの人の波を通 り過ぎ、雷門を通ります。そこは巨大な提灯が中央にぶら下がり、両 端に像が立っている高い門です。そこを通ると仲見世通りにでます。 そこはたくさんの店が立ち並ぶ通りで、携帯ストラップや歌舞伎の お面、食べ物や日本のアイドルのポスターなどありとあらゆるもの が売られています。 ここは時間をかけて一つ一つのお店を覗いてみ るといいでしょう。観光客が喜ぶ品だけでなく、ローカルなものやお 土産にすばらしいものが見つかるはずです。そしてここで梅アイスを 食べるのがおすすめです。その味はカナダにあるどんな味とも異な り、軽く甘い口当たりで、でもしっかり味わえる他に比べようのない 味です。浅草寺の境内には他にも塔や、最初は仏教のお寺だったの が後に神道のお寺となった浅草神社があります。
Je venais de voir les jardins impériaux, avais mangé du maguro zuke don, et prévoyais voir la tour de Tokyo lorsque ma mère (qui connaît Tokyo) insista pour aller à Asakusa. C’est peut-être étonnant mais au début je n’avais aucun enthousiasme d’y aller, impatiente que j’étais de voir la tour, c’est donc pourquoi l’arrivé à Asakusa était une surprise inexprimable. C’est un endroit de la ville plus traditionnel tout juste sur la ligne Ginza et qui, avant la popularité de Shinjuku, était un endroit populaire pour se divertir. C’est un endroit magnifique, bordé de magasins, restaurants, ryokan, temples, etc. Il y a même, près d’Asakusa, à Kappabashi Dori, des magasins qui vendent de la nourriture en plastique pour restaurants!
The beauty of such traditional buildings was accentuated by a perfect blue sky and an autumn in full bloom, that is why going at the end of November is perfect. There is something very awe inspiring and magical about viewing such old and beautiful structures amidst rustling leaves of red and gold. I saw many wonderful things during my trip in Tokyo but visiting Asakusa was an experience that I still cherish with fondness and definitely recommend. It is well worth the the small detour from Tokyo Tower!

Pour entrer il faut d’abord se faufiler parmi une mer de pousse-pousse et des quelques femmes en kimono, et passer par le Kaminarimon; Ce dernier est en fait un ensemble de piliers avec une lanterne au centre et statues géantes. Vous passerez ensuite par Nakamise-dori, une rue remplie de magasins vendant des “charms” pour cellulaires, des masques kabuki, de la nourriture, des posters jpop et je ne sait plus quoi! Cela vaut la peine de prendre son temps dans les magasins de Nakamise-dori car il y a des trouvailles non seulement pour les touristes mais aussi les locaux, ainsi que de super cadeaux pour ceux à la maison. Je recommande aussi de goûter à la crème glacée sakura; son goût particulier ne se trouve pas au Canada. Léger et sucré mais quand même intense, cela ne peut se comparer. Le lieu du Senso-ji comprend aussi une pagode pour ce dernier ainsi que l’ “Asakusa shrine”, le premier étant un temple Bouddhiste et l’autre un haut lieu Shinto. La beauté de ces bâtiments traditionnels est rehaussée par un ciel bleu pur et un automne en plein essor, il faut donc y aller en fin novembre. Voir de telles structures parmi des feuilles rouges et dorées qui scintillent inspire un sentiment de révérence solennelle. J’ai vu des choses magnifiques à Tokyo mais c’est ma visite à Asakusa qui m’a vraiment le plus marqué et que je recommande donc aux futurs touristes. Cela vaut bien une pause avant de voir la tour de Tokyo!

In Japan it’s said that every town has one face in the morning and another at night. The morning face of the town I live in, Asakusa, is “a town of temples.” The town is a historical site and tourist attraction with many temples and shrines, including the famous Asakusa Temple (Sensoji). But at night the town takes a 180°turn to become “a town of bars!” In the evenings, just as the temple doors close, the doors to Asakusa’s numerous bars around open, and the personality of the town changes completely. There are so many bars of so many different types that one cannot just sum them up simply as “bars.” Let me introduce you to some of the more special bars in Asakusa. Kamiya Bar, known for its unique cocktail “Denki-bran,” is frequented by famous literary figures and is practically a landmark in Asakusa. Kamiya Bar has been serving cocktails for 120 years now, keeping the recipe unchanged and the quality intact. For those of you who like live entertainment, I recommend Ginmaku Rock, which provides an experience that’s very close to theatre. At this bar you can enjoy a variety of live shows. From jazz and rock to burlesque, at Ginmaku Rock you can see local artists and famous stars light up the stage until dawn. For sake lovers, I recommend Suzurou, which is located near the Kaminari-Mon gate of the Asakusa Temple. The bar’s ambience and menu are pure Japanese.
Il est dit que ce quartier possède un visage de jour et un visage de nuit. Mon lieu de résidence est dans un des petits quartiers de Tokyo, le visage de jour d’Asakusa « la ville des temples ». Le début de la popularité d’Asakusa, son abondance historique en temples Shinto et Bouddhistes qui est un lieu touristique, représente le côté latéral du visage de jour. Le visage de nuit est...littéralement « le quartier des bars » ! Au couché du soleil, nous sortons des temples et nous entrons dans un monde à part, un nombre incalculable de bars nous ouvrent leurs portes. Le quartier est transformé. Le mot « Bar » n’est pas suffisant pour expliquer l’ampleur des bars d’Asakusa. C’est ici que je vais vous introduire quelques endroits. Reconnu pour leurs cocktails spéciaux « Denki Buran » et « Kamiya Bar » sont aussi considérés comme des points de repères bienaimés d’Asakusa. Ils offrent des recettes de cocktail qui n’ont pas changés depuis 120 ans ainsi qu’un service impeccable. Pour toi qui es un amateur de spectacle, je te suggère « Gimaku Rock» qui est situé près de la rue des théâtres. Il y a des prestations de musique de Jazz et de Rock à des spectacles de burlesque. Ce bar offre une grande multitude de divertissements, incluant des artistes locaux, dans une atmosphère très plaisante qui ne cesse de changer jusqu’à l’aube. D’autre part, pour ceux qui veulent prendre un verre tranquillement et boire de l’alcool japonaise, je vous conseille « Suzuro » qui est situé tout près du Kaminari-Mon (endroit touristique) . Son nom reflète l’essence de la paix et de la lumière qu’on retrouve dans sa sélection et son ambiance.
Although all of the various bars in Asakusa have their own unique characteristics, perhaps the one with the strongest and most distinct personality is Gallery-ef. The 142-year-old stone building has been preserved and is now reborn as an art bar. The building has survived the great Tokyo earthquake of 1923 and the bombings in 1945—it’s a living piece of history. One night the bar will showcase the latest trends in the art scene, and the next night poignant pictures of the bombings. On a third night it might host a live musical performance. Gallery-ef is at the crossroads of past, present, and future. Oh, and by the way, the fresh-fruit cocktails available here are the best in Tokyo—nah, make that the best in Japan! So if you’re ever in Asakusa, make sure you open the door to the night, and see what it feels like to stand at the crossroads of history and culture.
Pour continuer, ces bars ne font que représenter une fraction des bars dans Asakusa, un bar qui possède une personnalité en soi est le bar « Gallery-ef ». Ce bar est localisé dans un vieil entrepôt âgé de 142 ans qui à été restauré a son état original. Gallery est à la fois une résurrection artistique et un bar. Ce lieu a passé a travers le Grand Tremblement de Terre de la région du Kanto en 1923 et à la Grande Attaque Aérienne de Tokyo en 1945; il est un témoin de l’histoire. Parfois il sert d’exposition pour des pièces d’arts de fine pointe, d’autres fois il expose des photos du bombardement aérien, et quelquefois il accueille des prestations de musique... En passant, ses cocktails à base de fruit frais sont possiblement les meilleurs de Tokyo, non, les meilleurs du Japon!? When you head North on Saint-Laurent St. and pass the overpass of Highway 40, you will be in the garment district of Montreal. Did you know that? There are approx. 850 local brands around the building at 555 Chabanel. You can find everything related to fashion from mannequins, to sewing machines, to underwear, casual clothing, to shoes and bags, to wedding dresses, etc. Originally Montreal was known for its fur trading, but now is the most active city for fashion all over Canada. The location of the city makes it perfect for fashion as it is where North America and Europe cross each other. Since 1968, YKK, well known as zipper, has its Canadian head quarters in a suburb of Montreal and is also the centre of textile in Canada.

I can’t deny that a long recession made an impact on the fashion industry. However, in order to bring back greater enthusiasm, the industry organized a united fashion week this year. I was blessed with a few opportunities to see some fashion shows, and covered the “Autumn Winter Collection 2010.” Ten designers conducted the show, where fur coats, knitting materials and patterns were presented. For coats, the main stream is slim silhouette with a bulky look using fur and feather around the neck and sleeves. On the other hand, I saw long gloves and bigger sized bags even as small accessories were attracting attention. I think they may come into fashion in the next winter. The last person presented in the show was Simon Chang, whose collection was met with shouts of joy and a big hand by audience (In 2008, the collection of Simon Chang received an honor of “Order of Canada” from the Canadian government). I was impressed with an outstanding red and khaki to contrast to black in general, and feather to provide a soft feeling. Because the winter is long and severe, it is a technique to spend time enjoying fashion but there opportunities for women to dress up such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day in winter. Is it a little bit early to make space in my closet in order to prepare for the coming winter, eh?!
On ne peut ignorer qu’une longue récession a eu un grand impact sur l’industrie de la mode montréalaise. C’est pourquoi, dans l’espoir de lui redonner de la vigueur, les différentes compagnies qui composent cette industrie ont organisé une semaine de la mode. J’ai donc eu la chance d’assister aux défilés et de couvrir par la même occasion les diverses collections automne-hiver 2010. Dix couturiers se sont partagé la vedette lors de l’évènement, où manteaux de fourrure et tricots étaient à l’honneur. Pour les manteaux, la tendance est aux silhouettes minces et aux volumes solides cintrée, au niveau du cou et des manches, de fourrure ou de plumes. J’ai aussi pu observer qu’autant d’attention était portée sur les gants longs et les sacs de grande taille que sur les accessoires plus petits. Ce qui me laisse croire que ces éléments feront sensation l’a prochain. La dernière collection présentée au défilé – et accueillie avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme -- fut celle de Simon Chang, qui s’est close sous une pluie d’applaudissements. (En 2008, la collection de Simon Chang avait reçu l’Ordre du Canada) L’utilisation des rouges et des kakis pour contraster le noir m’a particulièrement impressionnée, tout comme la manière dont les plumes étaient utilisées pour adoucir la ligne des manteaux. Puisque notre hiver est long et ardu, il est un peu difficile de profiter pleinement de la mode, mais il existe quelques occasions, comme Noël et la Saint-Valentin, où la « fashionista » en nous peut enfin s’exprimer. Il est un peu trop tôt pour faire de la place dans ma garde-robe pour l’hiver prochain, n’est-ce pas?

恥ずかしがりやで人見知りの娘が、意外な一面を見せてくれたの は、学校の芸術発表会でバイオリンを演奏した時のこと。天に向 かってハートを大きくオープンしての堂々たる演奏に、観客の大 拍手をいただき、満面の笑顔でお辞儀を繰り返していました。そ の後も娘は、相変わらず慎重でシャイですが、いざという時の舞 台度胸を獲得した自信が、ハートの奥底で大事に温められていま す。
My daughter was shy in front of strangers, but she showed me another side to her when she played the violin at the arts recital in her school. She performed with dignity and she opened her heart toward the heaven, her performance won her the applause of the audience. She bowed repeatedly at the end with a big smile. After the recital, she became her careful and shy self as usual, however, now I know that in the deep part of her heart she keeps confidence carefully, the confidence she gained from the stage, in case an unexpected situation arrives.

This month, as my nice lady in Montreal, I would like to introduce you to Angela Chan, Director of Lambda-School of Music and Fine Arts, who supports children’s smile and arts’ activities. Lambda is a school providing education in the fields of all kinds of Arts such as music, fine arts, photo, etc. The school has well trained instructors with fully quipped facilities. More than that, I can feel the passion of the people who are gathering at this school - the school is full of love, hope and possibilities.
設立者であるAngelaさんは、幼い頃おもちゃのピアノの演奏と絵 を描くことが大好きな少女でした。その後ピアノレッスンを始め、 厳しい先生に指導を受けて授業が嫌いになり、ピアノから離れた こともあったけれど、やがて再びピアノ演奏に魅力を感じ始めま した。一方で、やはり子供時代に楽しんだ「先生―生徒ごっこ」が きっかけで、本格的に「教育活動」にも関心が高まり、遂には「ピア ノ」 「心理学」及び「教育」に関して博士号を取得。ピアニストとし て世界で活躍中のWonny Song 氏との出会いも後押しとなり、子 供たちの芸術活動を支援する学 校設立を夢見始めてから１５年 で、ようやく２００８年に、夢の 学校、Lambdaを開校することが できたのです。開校後、現在にい たるまで、興味深いプログラムの 数々、ワークショップやコンサー トなど、積極的に活動を展開して います。 Angelaさんは言います。 「少数精 鋭のエリート学校を創りたいの ではないのです。さまざまな分野の芸術に触れ、慣れ親しむ場を 提供することで、子供たちに、 自分自身をよく知るチャンスを与え、 人生を積極的に楽しむ姿勢を応援していきたいのです」華奢な 体からはちきれんばかりに溢れ出ている情熱を、その瞳にほとば しらせて語るAngelaさん。Lambdaは自分の人生そのものだけれ ど、 自分自身よりもずっとずっと長く生き続けてほしいそう。
Angela-san, founder of the school, was a girl who liked playing the toy piano and drawing pictures when she was little. Later she started taking piano lessons. There is only one time in her life that she was not playing the piano because she had grown to dislike it. Why had she grown to dislike it? A teacher that was very strict with her. However, she later regained her interest in piano. She has many enjoyable memories of the “TeacherStudent Play Game (or acting teacher-student in the play)” that she would take part in with her teacher and that brought her real attention to “educational activities.” She earned her Ph.D. related to piano, psychology and education. Meeting with Mr. Wonny Song, a pianist who is active in the music world, he helped her establish her dream school, Lambda in 2008. 15 years later she fulfilled her initial wish. Since opening the school, she has aggressively developed a variety of interesting programs, workshops, concerts and so on. Angela-san says, “I don’t want to create a school for a small group of the best elites. I want to give children opportunities to connect with arts, and to find themselves by providing the place to get to know the arts, so that they can enjoy their positive lives.” During her talk, I noticed that her eyes were full of passion, overflowing from her slim body as if it is bursting. Lambda itself is her life, but she wants it to live longer than her life.

Angela-san got a part of her name from “angel”. A big angel, Angela-san, keeps the wings of children or angels warm to fly freely in the sky, sends them warm wind to take off, and sends a gentle smile as their depart. By doing so, Angela-san attracts many angels around her today as well.
Une personne angélique Alors qu’elle jouait du violon lors d’un récital organisé par son école, ma fille, d’ordinaire si timide avec les étrangers, m’a montrée un tout nouveau côté de sa personnalité. Elle a joué avec tout son cœur en faisant preuve d’une grande dignité. Sa performance lui a valu une pluie d’applaudissements alors qu’elle remerciait la foule par plusieurs révérences, un grand sourire accroché au visage. Après le récital, elle est redevenue cette petite fille réservée et timide que je connaissais, mais je sais maintenant qu’au fond d’elle se cache une confiance nouvellement acquise par cette expérience, une confiance dont elle saura user si l’occasion se présente. À mon humble avis, la possibilité de s’exprimer librement dans une atmosphère d’ouverture est un aspect important de l’éducation des enfants que nous offrent les arts. Ainsi, la dame que je voudrais vous présenter ce mois-ci est Angela Chan, la directrice de l’école Lambda, une institution spécialisée dans l’enseignement de la musique et des Beaux Arts qui offre de nombreuses activités artistiques destinées aux enfants. L’école Lambda offre des programmes dans plusieurs domaines artistiques, comme la musique, les arts plastiques et la photographie… L’école bénéficie d’un corps enseignant professionnel et de locaux bien équipés. De plus, on peut sentir toute la passion qui anime ceux qui oeuvrent à la réussite de l’école, faisant en sorte que l’établissement inspire la chaleur humaine et l’espoir. Madame Chan, la fondatrice de l’établissement, adorait jouer du piano et dessiner lorsqu’elle était petite, et son intérêt l’a plus tard menée à suivre des cours de piano. Il n’y a qu’une chose qui l’ait temporairement éloignée du piano depuis ce temps; une professeure particulièrement stricte lui avait fait perdre la passion. Elle a par contre vite repris goût au piano et se rappelle maintenant de nombreux souvenirs heureux liés à ses cours de piano. La relation qu’elle entretenait avec son professeur fait partie de ces souvenirs heureux qui ont contribué à lui donner le goût d’enseigner à son tour. Elle a donc obtenu un doctorat lié au piano, à l’enseignement et à la psychologie avant de rencontrer monsieur Wonny Song, un pianiste réputé qui l’a aidé à fonder, en 2008, cette école dont elle rêvait. Il lui a fallu 15 ans pour réaliser son rêve et depuis, elle œuvre activement à développer un éventail de programmes d’études, d’ateliers, de concerts et autres évènements aussi intéressants les uns que les autres. « Mon objectif n’était pas de créer une école qui s’adresse exclusivement à une petite élite, explique madame Chan. Je voulais offrir aux enfants une occasion de découvrir les arts, et de se découvrir par les arts, dans un cadre positif. » En l’écoutant parler, je pouvais voir le feu qui habite cette femme menue, la passion qu’elle tente de communiquer. On pourrait croire que cette école est toute sa vie, et qu’elle souhaite que sa création lui survive. Angela tient son nom du mot « ange ». Peut-être ce nom lui étaitil prédestiné, elle qui regarde avec bienveillance les « petits anges » qu’elle a formés quitter son école pour tracer leur propre chemin dans le monde des arts.

C’est le temps des sucres qui débute vers la fin mars! Dans les différentes érablières du Québec, les acériculteurs s’activent. Car pour déguster le précieux sirop, on doit d’abord recueillir la sève des érables. Cette eau légèrement sucrée se transformera, après ébullition, en un sirop délicatement parfumé. Bien que fortement ancrée dans nos traditions, la coutume de recueillir la sève de l’érable et la manière d’en produire du sirop et du sucre nous vient des Amérindiens qui bien avant l’arrivée des Européens, en connaissaient la valeur et les techniques.
It’s already April, and spring is here! The weather is warmer and tree sap is beginning to flow... If the maple leaf is the emblem of Canada, it’s not without good reason. Actually, sugaring season begins in mid March! Before the coming of the Europeans, native peoples used clay pots and simple fires protected only by a roof of tree branches to boil maple sap. This was the first version of the sugar shack (cabane à sucre.) Even if production methods have been made simpler and more efficient since colonial days, the process remains essentially the same. The sap must first be collected and then boiled immediately to make a good quality syrup. Surprisingly, it takes 32 to 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup!

Les lieux ou les fermes, situées dans des érablières et qui s’occupent de la récolte du sirop d’érable, ont reçus au Québec le nom de Cabane à sucre. Ces cabanes sont devenues très populaires. Au Québec d’aujourd’hui, on en compte plusieurs centaines et tout le monde peut y déguster les produits issus de la récolte. Il y en a partout, vous en trouverez dans les alentours de Montréal et même sur l’île de Montréal. On vous y servira des plats traditionnels québécois, accompagnés de sirop d’érable, tels que les oreilles de crisse : des grillades de lard rôties. À l’extérieur, des promenades en traîneau dans les érablières sont proposées ainsi que la traditionnelle tire sur la neige. Et pour terminer, voici une petite statistique intéressante : le sirop d’érable est majoritairement produit au Canada, avec 83 % de la récolte mondiale, et ce particulièrement dans la province de Québec (75 % de la production mondiale). Alors, puisque vous êtes dans le pays de l’érable, profitez-en pour vous sucrer le bec!

When it comes to being a romantic, I may definitely be one – but I don’t hold first place among my family members. Although perhaps hard to believe for some, it’s not me but instead my older brother who would most likely win the prize for “most romantic” in my family. And I have the story to prove it.
Lorsque vient le temps d’être romantique, je crois définitivement l’être – mais je ne détiens pas la première place parmi les membres de ma famille. Bien que cela soit un peu difficile à croire pour certains, ce n’est pas moi mais mon frère aîné qui gagnerait probablement le prix du « plus romantique » dans la famille. J’ai même une histoire pour le prouver.
Now that it’s April, I’m thinking of my brother’s love story for two reasons: First, there’s April Fool’s Day. And wasn’t it a few wise men and “the King” himself who told us only fools rush in? Second, my brother – arguably a fool in love – proved the famous Elvis song wrong and got married four Aprils ago. My brother is a wise man, but some might say he foolishly rushed in when, after making the long journey to visit me in Japan, he found himself in a karaoke box singing “Love Me Tender” with a Japanese woman he barely knew, a woman who stole his heart by the end of this three-minute song. After spending the evening singing one love song after another together at karaoke, and then meeting only a few times more, the love sick duo were forced to part. My brother sadly boarded the plane home to Canada and left his girl (and heart) behind in Japan. The long distance lovebirds had their fair share of difficulties, the number one challenge being that they were separated by a very wide ocean. As their love for one another continued to grow, the geographical distance between them seemed to cruelly grow wider. With his mind consumed by thoughts of only her, my usually sensible sibling decided it was time to think with his heart, and not with his head. It was no April Fool’s joke when my romantic older brother suddenly announced that he was putting his Canadian life on hold and moving to Japan to be with the love of his life. A couple of years later, no one was surprised to find him still in Japan, engaged, and planning his upcoming Japanese wedding. On April 15, 2006, I watched as my handsome brother – all dressed up in traditional Japanese wedding garb – lived the fairy tale and married his Japanese princess. Family and close friends joined the celebration and watched as they exchanged vows, the rings, and a kiss. In Japan, a ‘first song’ replaces the western ‘first dance,’ so the bride and groom chose to sing the first song they had ever sung together, “Love Me Tender,” a song that seemed to tell their story before they even knew they would have one. Yes, they did rush in. And no, they couldn’t help falling in love. But now, they’re loving each other tenderly. Maybe it isn’t so foolish to rush in after all. Happy Anniversary, Sean and Yuu!

Maintenant que nous sommes en Avril, je pense à l’histoire d’amour de mon frère pour deux raisons : Premièrement, il y a le Poisson d’Avril. N’y avait-il pas quelques hommes sages et le «King» lui-même pour nous dire seulement les fous se dépêchent? Deuxièmement, mon frère - qu’on peut affirmer être un fou en amour - a prouvé que la célèbre chanson d’Elvis avait tort et s’est marié il y a 4 Avrils. Mon frère est un homme sage, mais plusieurs diraient qu’il s’est précipité dans sa relation. Après avoir fait le long voyage pour me visiter au Japon, il s’est retrouvé au karaoké chantant « Love Me Tender » avec une femme Japonaise qu’il connaissait à peine, une femme qui vola son cœur avant la fin de cette chanson de trois minutes. Après avoir passé une soirée à chanter des chansons d’amour les unes après les autres au karaoké, et ensuite de s’être vus quelques fois de plus, le duo de fous d’amour a dû se séparer. Mon frère est tristement rentré au Canada et a laissé son amour (et son cœur) derrière au Japon. Les amoureux de longue distance ont eu leur part de difficultés, le premier défi étant qu’ils étaient séparés par un très vaste océan. Comme leur amour continuait de grandir, la distance géographique entre eux semblait cruellement s’agrandir. La tête remplie d’images et de pensées de son amoureuse, mon frère si sensible décida qu’il était temps de penser avec son cœur et non sa tête. Ce n’était pas une blague du 1er Avril lorsque mon frère romantique a soudainement annoncé qu’il mettait son style de vie Canadien de côté et déménagerait au Japon pour être avec la femme de sa vie. Quelques années plus tard, personne ne fût surpris de le trouver encore au Japon, fiancé, et planifiant son mariage Japonais. Le 15 Avril 2006, j’ai vu mon frère, beau et élégant – habillé dans un habit Japonais traditionnel – en train de vivre le conte de fées et marier sa princesse Japonaise. La famille et les amis proches se joignirent à la célébration et ont été témoins de l’échange des vœux, des bagues, et du baiser. Au Japon, une « première chanson » remplace la version occidentale de la « première danse ». Donc, les mariés ont choisi de chanter la première chanson qu’ils ont chanté ensemble, soit « Love Me Tender », une chanson qui semblait raconter leur histoire avant même qu’ils sachent qu’ils en auraient une. Oui, ils se sont précipités. Et non, ils ne pouvaient s’empêcher de tomber en amour. Mais maintenant, ils s’aiment tendrement. Peut-être que ce n’est pas si fou de se précipiter après tout. Joyeux anniversaire, Sean et Yuu !

Port town—Nagasaki Nagasaki is one of my favorite cities. It is well known for being a peaceful city as well as a city of Peace. In my case, it is the topography that strikes me the most. The city is quite compact and faces to ocean while a mountain is niched behind it. Nagasaki reminds me of Onomichi city or Kure city near my hometown Hiroshima: there are lots of houses on hillsides, therefore the city has a very “slopey” feel to it. It should also be mentioned that Nagasaki has a very particular atmosphere because the city has a long history of trading and relations with foreign nations, and that can be seen in it’s cross-cultural undertones. So we can easily see Chinese style things and European style things side by side. There are many well preserved churches. I went there for the Lantern festival to celebrate the new year of the lunar calendar. There were lots of lanterns everywhere throughout the city. After the sunset, the lanterns transported us to a romantic world. The festival has many kind of events: an emperor parade, a dragon dance and a lion dance for example. There are also many great typical “matsuri” foods to be snacked upon. The festival’s duration is 2 weeks, so make sure to reserve those dates in your schedules and go!

Nagasaki, ville portuaire Ce mois-ci, je vais vous parler de Nagasaki, une de mes villes préférées. Tout comme Hiroshima, la ville de Nagasaki est connue comme étant un symbole de paix. Bien qu’il existe d’autres raisons d’aimer cette ville, ce qui me fascine le plus de Nagasaki est sa topographie. Cette petite ville fait face à la mer et est adossée à une chaîne de montagnes. Si l’on compare à Hiroshima, Nagasaki pourrait rappeler Onhomichi ou Kure. Les maisons se succèdent dans les rues aux pentes abruptes qui traversent la ville. De plus, comme Nagasaki a été pendant très longtemps le théâtre du commerce international du Japon, la ville a gardé plusieurs influences chinoises et occidentales. Elle a par exemple conservé plusieurs églises. Tout ceci donne à la ville une atmosphère bien particulière, atmosphère que l’on peut apprécier à l’occasion du « Festival des lanternes » marquant le Nouvel An chinois. Lors de cet évènement, toute la ville est décorée de toutes sortes de lanternes, petites et grosses, qui créent, le soir venu, une ambiance magique. Plusieurs évènements s’enchaînent pendant le festival, comme une reconstitution d’un ancien cortège impérial, une « danse du dragon » ou encore une « danse du lion ». On peut profiter de l’ambiance festive tout en dégustant des mets préparés spécialement pour l’occasion par les yatais et les kiosques montés devant les restaurants du coin. Comme le festival se déroule pendant 2 semaines entières, on peut prendre tout notre temps pour profiter des festivités. Aucune raison, donc, de ne pas aller visiter cette ville si particulière.

今回は私の好きな街のひとつ長崎のお話。 長崎も広島と同じ平和都市として有名な街。共通点も惹かれる理由のひとつだけど私は長崎のような地 形が好き。そんなに大きくない街が海に面していてその背後には山がある。広島でいうと尾道や呉のよう な街。斜面にたくさん家が立ち並ぶ。細い坂の街。おまけに長崎はずっと昔から外国との交流が盛んだっ ただけに中華系や西欧のものが多い。教会も多い。独特な雰囲気を持っている街。 さて旧正月、春節のお祭り 「ランタンフェスティバル」に行ってきた。想像を超える人出と街中が大小様々 なランタンで溢れ、夜になると更に綺麗！昔の皇帝パレードの再現や龍踊り （じゃおどり）、獅子舞などイ ベントも盛りだくさん。屋台や店先にならぶ美味しい食べ物をつまみつつどっぷり楽しめるお祭りです。2 週間ほど続くお祭りなのでうまく時間合わせられるのではないかな。お勧めです！

にほんご – Japanese だんだん、春の気配が感じられるようになりま したね。初めての冬を体験された方は、いかが でしたか？これから、モントリオールは日に日 に賑やかになるので、モントリオール生活を楽 しんでいただけると思います。今回は、モント リオールでの「にほんご」についてお話しよう と思います。 モントリオールで少し生活されると、日本語に 興味のある現地の方と知り合う機会があるの ではないでしょうか。母国語だから、 もちろん教 えられると思いながらも、実際に教えてみると 色々な質問攻めにあい、結局「う～～ん」 「えっ ～～と」 と答えられないことがありますね。もち ろん、本格的に日本語教師として教えるには勉 強し、免許をとることが必要ですが、友達に教 える時のテクニックをここでお教えしましょう。 現地の人は、映画や漫画などで聞く、自然でカ ジュアルな日本語を学びたいと思っています。 その一方で、実際に日本語クラスや日本語の 教科書などでは、必ず丁寧な言い方「です、ま す」などで勉強します。友達に教えてる自分が、 意外に「です、 ます」を普段使っていないことに 気がつきませんか？そのため、たどたどしい会 話になってしまったり、そんな丁寧な言い方し なくていいよ～とカジュアルに教えたり。 どちら がいいのでしょうか。 まず、そのお友達がどのくらいの日本語レベル かにもよりますので、 どこまで勉強しているか を聞いてみましょう。そして、友達同士で使う自 然な言い方（会話）を、少しずつ教えてあげる のも彼らにとっては新鮮でよいと思います。も ちろん、 「です、ます」も目上の人や初対面の人 と話すときには大事なことも教えてあげるとい いでしょう。 また、たくさんの単語をいっぱい教 えてください。 日本語の会話は簡単なんだよっ てことが分かるのではないでしょうか。

日本語での会話では、たいていの場合、主語 を省略します。例えば、I am Canadian. I like Japanese Manga. などのセンテンスでも、 日本 人の間で会話するときは、 「カナダ人だよ。 （カ ナダ人です。）漫画がすきなんだ。 （漫画が好き です。）」 といいますね。 「私はカナダ人です。私 は漫画が好きです。私は日本語を勉強してい ます。」など、一々 「私は、私は、私は・・・」 と言わ ないのですね。かえって、 「私は、日本語を勉強 し、不自然な日本語を話す外国人です。」 と言っ ているようです。 （これが、 「私」を強調して自分 のことを言ってる場合はもちろん使いますが。 反対に、英語やフランス語では、必ず主語がい ります。英語やフランス語では、主語によって 動詞を活用させなくてはいけませんね。She is French. He likes Manga. などのように。 自然な日本語を教えてあげることを心がけてく ださい。また、日本ではカタカナを使う機会が 多いことも教えてあげるといいでしょう。 レスト ランのメニューや、看板など、カタカナの割合 もかなり増えてきていることに気づきますね。 カタカナは大事です！ また、Language Exchangeをしている場合は、 日本語は20分、英語/フランス語はその後で20 分などと、可能な限り分けてするといいでしょ う。混ぜながらやっていると結局、教えている のか、学んでいるのか分からなくなってしまい ます。時間配分をしっかりして、充実した楽しい Language Exchangeができるといいですね。 現地の人とたくさん日本語、英語、フランス語 を話す機会を作り、積極的に話して練習しまし ょう。英語、 フランス語を学ぶだけでなく、日本 語の魅力、美しさも再確認できるのでないでし ょうか。
