調剤薬局の中 カナダの薬局は全て調剤薬局です。 どの処方箋も自分の希望の薬局に持っていく ことができます。高血圧や糖尿病などの慢性疾患があっても、症状が安定してい れば、日本のように毎月医師のところに行く必要はなく、年に１、２回だけ医師に 会うのが普通です。その代わり処方箋には、薬と用量を指定された数（12回など） あるいは期間（１年間など）だけ繰り返すことができるリフィルが付いています。 リ フィルの制度は日本にはありません。行きつけの薬局がある人は、医師から直接 処方箋を薬局にファックスで送ってもらう事もできます。 また、医師が薬剤師に直 接電話で処方箋を伝えることもあります。 薬局には、特に忙しい時間帯以外は、普通薬剤師は１人しかいません。他は薬剤 師をサポートするテクニシャンたちです。 このテクニシャンの制度は日本にはあり ません。処方箋の情報をコンピューターシステムに入れたり、錠剤を数えたり、 リフ ィルの注文を受けたりするのは、テクニシャンの仕事です。薬剤師は、薬を出す前 にテクニシャンの仕事が正しく行われているかを確認します。現在のところ、ケベ ック州ではテクニシャンには法的責任はなく、全ては薬剤師の責任となります。 ま た処方された薬や用量が適切であるか、他の薬との併用に問題がないか、 または カンセリングなど、薬学的知識を必要とする仕事は全て薬剤師により行われます。 TylenolやAdvilなど処方箋のいらない薬は、調剤薬局の外の棚に置いてあります。 規則により処方箋は必要ないけれど、調剤薬局の中に保存しなければならない薬 もあります。 これらの薬にはコデイン入りのアセトアミノフェン、抗生物質入りの目 薬、Voltaren Emugel (鎮痛抗炎症外用薬)などが含まれます。 これらの薬は、使用 が適切であるかを薬剤師が判断した時のみ販売することができます。 リフィルは同じ薬局で行う必要はありません。オピオイド鎮痛剤などの１部の例 外を除いて、ほとんどの薬のリフィルは他の薬局に移動させることができます。病 院の近くで最初の薬の購入をすることもあるかもしれませんが、 リフィルは家から 近い薬局に移動させると後々便利です。希望する薬局の薬剤師に薬の名前を告げ てトランスファーを頼むだけで大丈夫です。ただし、時間がかかる時もあるので、 薬が必要となる数日前に頼んでおくのが良いでしょう。 薬剤師が処方監査、調剤監査を行い、患者に適切な医療ケアを提供するために は、ある程度の時間が必要です。また、処方箋自体に何らかの問題があった場合 は、医師に問い合わせたりするため、かなり時間がかかることもあります。時間が ない時は、処方箋を預けて後で薬を取りに来ることもできます。あるいは、薬局に 配達を頼むこともできます。配達は普通無料のサービスです。 医療制度も薬局も日本とは少し違っているため、戸惑う方もいるかもしれません が、システムを理解して薬局を上手に活用してください。質問のある方は、かかり つけの薬局の薬剤師にお尋ねください。

In the pharmacy
Toutes les pharmacies canadiennes traitent les ordonnances. Vous pouvez choisir votre pharmacie selon votre préférence. Au Canada, un patient souffrant d’une maladie chronique, telle que de l’hypertension ou du diabète, ne consulte pas son médecin chaque mois, mais seulement 1 à 2 fois par an, si sa condition est stable. Il lui est alors prescrit une ordonnance avec un nombre (par exemple 12 fois) ou une durée (par exemple 1 an) de renouvellements spécifiés. Au Japon, ce principe de renouvellement n’existe pas. Le médecin canadien peut également faxer une ordonnance à votre pharmacie ou même dicter une prescription au pharmacien par téléphone.
All Canadian pharmacies can accept prescriptions. You can therefore choose a pharmacy according to your preference. Unlike in Japan, a patient with a chronic disease such as hypertension or diabetes does not go to see a doctor every month; if the patient is stable, they go only once or twice a year. And the patient receives a prescription of refills with a specified number (for example 12 times) or duration (for example 1 year.) In Japan, refills are not accepted in a prescription. A Canadian doctor can also send a prescription to your pharmacy by fax, or even dictate a prescription directly to the pharmacist over the phone.
Dans le laboratoire d’une pharmacie, il n’y a souvent qu’un pharmacien à la fois, sauf pendant les périodes très achalandées. Les autres employés présents sont des techniciens (assistants techniques) qui l’assistent dans son travail. Au Japon le système de techniciens n’existe pas et il n’y a que des pharmaciens dans le laboratoire. Au Canada, le travail des techniciens consiste, entre autres, à entrer les informations de la prescription dans le système informatique, à conditionner les médicaments ou à recevoir et traiter une demande de renouvellement. C’est le pharmacien qui vérifie, avant de délivrer les médicaments, si le travail des techniciens a été effectué correctement. Actuellement, les techniciens n’ont pas de responsabilité juridique au Québec et c’est seulement le pharmacien qui est responsable en cas d’erreur. En outre, le pharmacien exécute toutes les tâches qui exigent une connaissance pharmaceutique. Il vérifie en particulier que le dosage et la posologie des médicaments prescrits sont adéquats pour ce patient, il contrôle les interactions médicamenteuses et il donne des conseils.
In the pharmacy lab, there is often only one pharmacist working at a time, except during very busy periods. The other employees are technicians (technical assistants) who assist the pharmacist. In Japan, the system of technicians does not exist and there are only pharmacists in the laboratory. Technicians' work includes entering prescription information into the computer system, counting tablets, or receiving and processing the request of refills. It is the pharmacist who reviews, before dispensing the medications, whether the technicians' work was done correctly. For the moment, technicians have no legal responsibility in Quebec; it is the pharmacist who is responsible. In addition, the pharmacist performs all tasks that require pharmaceutical knowledge. In particular, he/she checks the drug therapy to see that the dosage is adequate, that there are no harmful drug interactions, and that counseling is given accordingly.
Les médicaments qui ne nécessitent pas de prescription, comme le Tylenol ou l’Advil, sont placés sur les étagères situées à l'extérieur du laboratoire de la pharmacie, dans l’espace libre service. Mais, selon les règlements, il y a certains autres médicaments sans ordonnance qui sont malgré tout disposés à l'intérieur du laboratoire : les comprimés contenant de la codéine en plus de l’acétaminophène, les gouttes ophtalmiques contenant des antibiotiques ou encore le Voltaren Emugel (un anti-inflammatoire analgésique pour application externe). Le pharmacien a l’obligation de vérifier si ces médicaments sont appropriés dans votre cas avant de les délivrer. Il n’est pas nécessaire que tous les renouvellements d’une même ordonnance soient effectués dans la même pharmacie. À certaines exceptions près, comme les analgésiques opioïdes, les renouvellements peuvent être transférés à une autre pharmacie. Vous avez peut-être acheté votre médicament la première fois juste en sortant de l’hôpital, mais il est plus pratique d’aller par la suite chercher les renouvellements à la pharmacie de votre quartier. Pour demander un transfert, il vous suffit de donner à votre pharmacien le nom du médicament à transférer et il se chargera de contacter la pharmacie qui vous avait servi la première fois. Cependant, un transfert peut prendre un peu de temps, il est donc préférable s’en occuper quelques jours à l’avance. Le pharmacien a besoin d’un certain temps pour faire toutes les vérifications nécessaires et vous offrir le meilleur service pharmaceutique. De plus, s’il détecte un problème dans votre prescription, il doit contacter le médecin, ce qui peut prendre un certain temps. Si vous êtes pressé, vous pouvez déposer votre ordonnance et revenir chercher vos médicaments plus tard. Vous pouvez également demander une livraison, un service offert gratuitement par les pharmacies. Le système de santé et le fonctionnement des pharmacies du Canada sont différents de ceux du Japon. Pour plus de détails, n’hésitez pas à vous renseigner sur les services offerts par votre pharmacien.
Non-prescription medications, such as Tylenol or Advil, are placed on the shelves outside the pharmacy lab. But according to the regulations, there are some other non-prescription drugs that are inside the lab: acetaminophen tablets containing codeine; ophthalmic drops containing antibiotics; Voltaren Emugel (anti-inflammatory analgesic for external use); etc. The pharmacist must check if these medicines are appropriate for you before dispensing.

You may have purchased your first medication in the pharmacy close to the hospital, but find it more convenient to pick up refills at your local pharmacy. To request a transfer, simply give your pharmacist the name of the medication to be transferred, and he/she will contact the pharmacy which originally served you. However, this transfer may take time and it is better to ask for it a few days in advance. It takes some time for a pharmacist to do all the necessary medication reviews and to offer you the best pharmaceutical service. In addition, if a problem is detected in a prescription, the pharmacist will likely contact the doctor; this can take considerable time. If you are in a hurry, you can leave your prescription and pick up your medications later. You can also ask for a delivery, a service offered free by pharmacies. The health care system and the pharmacy operation are different between Canada and Japan. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask about the services offered by your pharmacist.

Omotesando est une avenue bien connue où l’on trouve de nombreux magasins de luxe. Cependant, il y a aussi un adorable « café aux oiseaux » sur Omotesando appelé Kotori Café. Il y a de nombreux types d’oiseaux dans ce café. Imaginez-vous en train de converser joyeusement avec un perroquet tout en tenant une tasse de café dans la main, ne serait-ce pas une expérience unique et fantastique ? Le café offre non seulement des breuvages, mais aussi des bonbons et pâtisseries en forme d’oiseau. Trop mignon !

Près des fenêtres, de vrais lits. Ce genre de « cafés lits » sont rarement trouvés en dehors du Japon. Les clients viennent dans le café, commandent des boissons et de la nourriture, et se prélassent dans le lit en lisant des magazines, des mangas, ou discutent simplement avec leurs amis. L’endroit parfait pour se relaxer.

Si jamais le bon vieux temps des repas scolaires préparés par les taties de l’école vous manque, essayez-donc ce café ! Le menu de ce café est arrangé selon les repas scolaires fournis aux écoliers de primaire pendant l’ère Shōwa. Pain hot dog, lait, soupe et croquettes sont inclus. Une imitation parfaite des repas scolaires de l’époque. La nourriture n’est pas extravagante, mais l’ambiance du café ramène les clients à l’époque Shōwa.

Do you enjoy having a cup coffee from time to time? When you want to grab a coffee, what kind of café would you usually go to? Would you choose regular coffee shops like Tim Hortons and Starbucks, or do you prefer special theme cafés such as Cat cafés and Maid cafés? There are several cat cafés in Montreal already, so I assume people already know more or less about them. However, in Japan, there are also other interesting theme cafés. Here I would love to give a brief introduction on some of the creative theme cafés in Japan.

Omotesando is a well-known gathering place for numerous luxury stores. Nevertheless, there is a cute bird café in Omotesando called the Kotori Café. There are various kinds of birds inside this café. Just imagining yourself holding a cup of black tea or coffee while having a joyful conversation with the parrot in the café, wouldn’t that be a unique and fantastic experience? The café offers not only drinks but also candies and baked goods in bird shape. How cute is that!
[Bed Café]
Alongside the windows those are real beds. Such bed cafés are rare to be found outside of Japan. Customers could come to the café, order some food and drink, and stay in bed to read magazines, manga, or simply have a chat with their friends. A perfect place for relaxing indeed.

If you ever miss the good old days’ school lunch meal provided by lunch aunties, you really have to give this cafeteria a try! The menu in this café is designed according to the school meals provided for elementary and middle school students in the Showa period. Hot dog bun, milk, soup and croquette are all included. A perfect imitation of the school lunch set provided in the Showa period. The food might not be extravagant, but the ambiance in the café really carries people back into the Showa time.

これらの状況以外で、特にここケベック州では、冬が長い為 に季節的に気分が落ち込みます。その沈んだ感情が続き、 徐々に家庭、職場、学校等でいつも通り人と接することが難 しくなったり、仕事、学校へ行くのが億劫になることがよく あります。 これらの症状が続く場合、季節性常道障害もしく は冬季うつ病、季節性気分障害といいます。

Le mois dernier, nous vous avons présenté les problèmes pouvant mener à la thérapie. Durant des périodes clés de la vie comme les études à l’étranger, le chômage, un divorce, une fausse couche ou le postpartum, le décès de membres de la famille ou de proches, des problèmes de santé graves comme le cancer, le stress ou l’inquiétude accumulés dans la vie quotidienne peuvent être améliorés par la thérapie et le counseling.
À l’arrivée du printemps, ceux qui ont souffert du blues de l’hiver voient leur moral remonter avec la température et retrouvent leur mode de vie habituel. Cependant, les Montréalais vivant dans une ville soumise à des chutes de neige pendant la moitié de l’année (de novembre à avril), nous conseillons la thérapie ou le counseling aux personnes souhaitant améliorer leur quotidien pendant ces six mois hivernaux ou à celles pour qui les symptômes se prolongent au printemps. L’art-thérapie ne nécessitant pas d’expression orale, elle est particulièrement adaptée aux gens qui ont du mal à mettre des mots sur leurs sentiments d’abattement. À travers un processus de création, il devient possible de mettre à jour l’irritation et la morosité, puis de les résoudre. La température s’apprête à chuter de plus en plus et les jours ne cessent de raccourcir. En faisant attention à votre cycle de vie et en respectant des règles de vie appropriées, vous serez en mesure de préserver votre santé.
Have you ever heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder (Winter Depression) during the long Montreal winters? Last month, we discussed life circumstances in which people may end up requiring therapeutic treatment. Life transition periods such as studying abroad, unemployment, divorce, miscarriage, childbirth, mourning for family members or friends, disabilities, or facing serious illness like cancer, often result in stress and anxiety that may constantly interfere with our daily lives. In these situations, seeking support from a therapist or a counselor can be a step towards improvement. Besides the aforementioned circumstances, as the somber feelings resulting from the long Quebec winter persist, keeping regular contact with family, friends, or colleagues becomes more difficult. Sometimes even going to work or school can be burdensome. If these symptoms persist, they are then referred to as “Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)”, “winter depression”, or simply “seasonal depression”. Characteristic symptoms such as depression, oversleeping, binge eating, gloominess, and fatigue can often be observed during the winter, even though people with these symptoms will be healthy both physically and mentally during the other seasons. This is similar to the “May disease” in Japan, which, instead of occurring during the winter, calls for loss of appetite, weight loss, and insomnia in the early summer. Has anyone living in Montreal ever experienced some of these symptoms, or an abnormally prolonged period of fatigue? Although the cause of winter depression has not yet been elucidated, it is known that as daylight hours lessen, secretion of melatonin is either excessive or delayed. This in turn causes our biological clock to go out of order. Further, as we receive less and less time of stimulation from sunlight, there is fewer secretion of the neurotransmitter serotonin. This induces a decline in brain activity, which leads to depressive feelings or cravings for excessive sleep.

明けましておめでとうございます。Bon appétit!シリーズ、2017 年も引き続きモントリオールの美味しいお店をご紹介してま いります。 どうぞ御贔屓に！ 元旦号に相応しい、エネルギッシュな日本食レストランの登場 です。昨年４月のオープン以来、急速に人気店のひとつに上り つめた炭火焼鳥屋、Otto Yakitori Izakayaです！ 温もりの感じられる木目調の店内に一歩入れば、相撲部屋の はっぴやほっこりするだるまの置物、壁に広がる色鮮やかな 絵に目が奪われます。車輪がOttoのスペルの組み合わせで出 来ているかのような自転車が、お店のシンボルマーク。 自転車 を愛するモントリオールの街にうってつけでもあります。 店名のOttoは日本語の「お父さん」に由来。共同オーナーであ るHiroshi Kitano、Hanhak Kim、Ni Linの三氏が全員お父さん であり、あだ名として呼び合っていたそうです。北野さんはＮ Ｙの本格日本料理ひろ久を経てモントリオールへ。温かく迎 え入れてくれたこの街が、すぐに大好きになったそうです。 本格的な炭火焼でいただく串焼きはどれも美味。炭火焼の遠 赤外線効果で、肉も魚もうま味が逃げることなく残り、煙にい ぶされた風味も格別となります。豚バラ、 スパイシーラム、牛タ ン、そして焼き鳥盛り合わせのオットーセットがお勧め。また 串焼き以外にも、一品料理が充実。 レギュラー版に加え、 日替 わりのスペシャルメニューも要チェックです。 トリュフが品よく 香るチキンとスイートポテトのフライ。ロブスターはグリルし て良し、蒸して良し。刺身にしてもなお良し。週末の真夜中限 定の塩ラーメンは楽しい夕べの締めくくりに相応しい。冬場に 嬉しい鍋料理の湯気に包まれれば、外の寒さもへっちゃらで す。 「自転車は世界を救う乗るアート」 （ピーターセン）。食のアー ティストOtto Yakitori Izakayaで2017年もボナペティ！

bois) Otto Yakitori Izakaya s’est rapidement taillé une place enviable parmi les établissements les plus courus. Dès qu’on franchit le pas de la porte de ce restaurant au décor dominé par la chaude texture du bois, notre regard est attiré par les multiples décorations comme les happi (veste ample en tissu imprimé) aux couleurs d’une « écurie » de sumo, les daruma (figurine représentant le moine Bodhidharma) à l’air satisfait et les gigantesques illustrations aux couleurs vives qui ornent les murs. Le logo du restaurant représente un vélo où les roues forment les « O », et le guidon et la selle les « T » du mot « Otto »; un choix parfait pour Montréal, cette ville de vélo! Le nom « Otto » vient du japonais otōsan, ce qui signifie « père ». Les copropriétaires, Hiroshi Kitano, Hanhak Kim et Ni Lin, sont tous trois pères et se sont donc tous donné ce surnom. M. Kitano a œuvré au restaurant de cuisine japonaise classique Hirohisa à New York avant de s’installer à Montréal. Il dit être tombé instantanément amoureux de cette ville qui l’a accueilli à bras ouverts. Toutes les brochettes, grillées sur véritable charbon de bois, sont délicieuses. En effet, grâce aux « infrarouges lointains » émis lors de la combustion du charbon de bois, la saveur des viandes et des poissons, plutôt que de s’échapper, reste et s’agrémente même du parfum de la fumée. Côté brochettes, je vous recommande d’ailleurs le flanc de porc, l’agneau épicé, la langue de bœuf et l’assortiment de yakitori (brochettes de poulet) « Otto Set ». Sinon, brochettes à part, le menu à la carte se révèle très intéressant. Comme le menu normal, le menu du jour mérite que l’on s’y attarde : poulet au sophistiqué parfum de truffes, patates douces frites, homard grillé, cuit-vapeur ou en sashimi, etc. Offert seulement la fin de semaine en fin de soirée, le shio ramen est la manière idéale de terminer une sortie en ville! Et, en vous laissant envelopper par la vapeur réconfortante d’un nabe (plat mijoté dans un chaudron) convivial, la froideur de l’hiver deviendra un souci du passé. « Voyez les vélos comme des œuvres d’art enfourchables qui pourraient bien sauver le monde. » — Grant Petersen. « Bon appétit! » en 2017 aux bons soins des artistes culinaires de chez Otto Yakitori Izakaya.

A Happy New Year to all our readers! In 2017, we’ll continue to introduce you to delicious Montreal restaurants with our “Bon appétit!” series. We hope you’ll join us on this culinary ride! Today’s featured spot is a lively Japanese restaurant perfect for our first edition of the year. A sumibi-yakitori (charcoal-grilled chicken) shop, Otto Yakitori Izakaya has risen rapidly in popularity since opening in April of last year. From the moment you step into the warm wood-grain interior, you’ll find yourself caught up in the shop’s decor: the sumo half-coats (called happi,) the cheerful daruma doll decorations, the colorful paintings adorning the walls, and more. The shop’s logo is a bicycle whose parts come together to spell out its name: perfect for a city so in love with cycling! The shop’s name, “Otto,” is a play on “otōsan,” the Japanese word for “father.” All three of the co-owners (Hiroshi Kitano, Hanhak Kim, and Ni Lin) are fathers, and it seems “otto” was used between them as a nickname. Kitano came to Montreal from New York’s Hirohisa, a restaurant specializing in authentic Japanese cuisine. The city welcomed him warmly, and he fell in love with Montreal right away. Authentically grilled over a charcoal flame, each and every one of the skewers here are delicious. Charcoal grilling cooks food using far-infrared radiative heat, letting both meats and fish fully retain their savouriness and lending them an exceptional, almost smoky flavor. We recommend the pork back, spicy lamb, beef tongue, and the Otto Set grilled chicken platter. Together with their skewers, they also offer a full array of side dishes. In addition, make sure to check out their daily specials as well as their regular menu. Try some sweet potato fries or chicken done with refined, fragrant truffles. Whether grilled, steamed, or served up fresh and uncooked as sashimi, the lobster here is a fine choice as well. Finally, if you’re out on the town on the weekend, be sure to finish off your evening with a bowl of their salt broth ramen, offered only on weekends late at night. No matter how cold it gets outside, you’ll be toasty where it counts when you’re all wrapped up in the steam off their delightful winter seasonal hot pot, too. Grant Petersen said, "Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world." So in 2017, let’s let the food artisans at Otto Yakitori Izakaya lead us to a bon appétit!

今回は、スコットランド、ハイランド地方の風景を楽しみ、スコットラン ドの歴史にふれ、ホグワーツ特急のモデルとなったジャコバイト蒸気 機関車（Jacobite Steam Train）に乗る１泊２日のツアーに参加しまし た。 ツアー１日目、15人乗りのミニバンでエディンバラの中心街を出発 し、間もなくすると、世界遺産でもあるフォース鉄道橋が見えてきまし た。1890年に完成したこの橋は、汽車が倒れてしまうほどの強い風が吹 く土地柄をふまえ、強風を十分に考慮し頑強に設計されています。 このあと、 ミニバンは今夜の宿泊地、ネス湖の湖畔を目指します。ネス 湖の静かな水面に、風もないのに、スーッと一本の筋が見えます。もし かして、ネッシー？と思わせるような神秘的な湖です。 ツアー２日目は待ちに待ったジャコバイト蒸気機関車「ホグワーツ特 急」に乗る日です。ジャコバイト号は、 ウエストハイランド鉄道のフォー ト・ウィリアム（Fort William）からマレイグ（Mallaig）を結ぶ68キロを走 ります。 発車から約30分後、待望の「グレンフィナン高架橋」 （Glenfinnan Viaduct）を通過します。連続する21のアーチがゆるやかな曲線を描き、後 部から橋の上を走る先頭の機関車を入れて写真を撮る構図は鉄道マ ニアの夢です。 100年以上前の機関車が、世界最古のコンクリート橋を通過します。蒸 気機関車発祥の国、英国の底力の賜物であるとしか言いようがありま せん。興奮冷める間もなく、橋を過ぎるとすぐに「グレンフィナン」駅で 20分停車します。ホームには、ハリーが使っていたトランクとそっくりな トランクが置かれ、ホグワーツ特急の終着駅の雰囲気をかもし出して います。 ここでは、魔法の箒（ほうき）にまたがって写真が撮れるので、 お見逃しなく。 片道、約２時間、終点のマレイグ駅に到着。マレイグは港町で、 スカイ島 （Isle of Skye）へのフェリーの出港場所です。帰りの出発時間までの２ 時間の間、ゆっくり街を散策し、名物料理のフィッシュ・アンド・チップス や小エビをふんだんに使ったシュリンプ・バーガーを味わい、満喫しま した。汽車は、同じルートを通って帰るので、再度、 グレンフィナン高架 橋の撮影に挑戦。今度は、早くからデッキに出て撮影場所を確保。車内 の窓ガラス越しよりもきれいに撮れます。途中、スコットランドで一番 美しいといわれる渓谷で、標高1,000メートル級の山が連なるグレンコ ー（Glen Coe ＝ゲール語で「嘆きの谷」を意味する）を通ります。 この辺 りで、ハリポタの「アズカバンの囚人」や「炎のゴブレット」が撮影されま した。 今回は、念願の「ホグワーツ特急」に乗るだけでなく、スコットランドの 歴史を知り、自然の素晴らしさ、特に、霧に包まれた魔物に魅了された 旅となりました。

Emprunter le Poudlard Express de Harry Potter
Pour cette aventure, nous avons pris part à un circuit de deux jours durant lequel nous avons pu apprécier les paysages époustouflants de la région des Highlands; touchés par la riche histoire de l’Écosse et emprunté le train à vapeur Jacobite, le modèle du Poudlard Express.dans le monde réel. Le premier jour, nous avons quitté le centre d’Edimbourg dans une mini-fourgonnette avec quinze autres personnes. Le Pont du Forth est apparu peu après devant nous. Ce pont, inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO, a été achevé en 1890 mais, même aujourd’hui, est assez solide pour supporter les vents particulièrement forts de cette région. La mini-fourgonnette a continué sa route jusqu’au bord du lac Loch Ness où nous avons passé la nuit. À un endroit, alors que le lac était calme et qu’il n’y avait aucun vent, j’ai repéré une ligne marquant la surface de l’eau. Aurait-ce pu être Nessie? J’ai eu l’impression que ce lac cache de nombreux mystères. C’est le deuxième jour que nous avons emprunté le train à vapeur Jacobite, également considéré comme le Poudlard Express, et nous contenions notre excitation avec peine. La ligne du train à vapeur Jacobine parcourt 68 kilomètres entre Fort William et Mallaig. Environ trente minutes après notre depart, nous avons traversé le tant attendu viaduc Glenfinnan : une série de vingt-et-une arches sous de longs virages de voie ferrée. C’est le rêve de tout amateur de chemin de fer qui peut prendre , depuis le dernier wagon,des photos époustouflantes de la locomotive longeant le pont au loin. La locomotive à vapeur, construite plus de 100 ans auparavant, parcourt le plus vieux pont de béton du monde. Il est difficile de décrire la sensation ressentie lors de du passage sur ce cadeau historique du berceau de la locomotive à vapeur, le Royaume-Uni. Juste après avoir traversé le pont, toujours vibrant d’excitation, nous nous sommes arrêtés vingt minutes à la gare de Glenfinnan. Une malle sur la plateforme, similaire à celle utilisée par Harry dans les films, nous a immédiatement transportés au terminus du Poudlard Express. Et si vous en avez l’occasion, ne manquez pas la chance de prendre des photos à cheval sur le balai magique. Dans un sens, cela prend environ trois heures pour atteindre Mallaig, le terminus. Mallaig est une ville portuaire à partir de laquelle il est possible de prendre un ferry vers l’île de Skye. Puisque nous avions deux heures avant de repartir, nous nous sommes promenés dans la ville et avons goûtés les spécialités locales: poisson et frites et hamburgers pleins de petites crevettes. Puisque le trajet de retour était le même, j’ai tenté ma chance de prendre des photos du viaduc Glenfinnan. Cette fois, je suis sortie plus tôt sur la plateforme afin d’obtenir une bonne place. Depuis la plateforme; vous pouvez même faire de meilleure photo que depuis la fenêtre. Auretour nous avons traversé, la plus belle vallée d’Ecosse avec une chaine de montagnes de 1000 mètres. Harry Potter et le prisonier d’Azkaban et Harry Potter et la Coupe de feu ont été tournés dans les environs. Durant cet inoubliable voyage, nous avons non seulement emprunté le Poudlard Express mais également été charmés par la riche Histoire de l’Écosse et sa splendeur naturelle même dans le noir, où nous avons ressenti la magie noire rôdant dans l’inquiétant brouillard.
C’est une des scènes les plus marquantes des films de Harry Potter : la locomotive à vapeur, le Poudlard Express, longeant le viaduc en un long virage pendant que Harry et les autres effectuent leur premier trajet de Londres à l’École de sorcellerie.

Riding on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express
It is one of the most distinctive scenes of all the Harry Potter films: the steam locomotive named the Hogwarts Express, racing along the viaduct in a slow gradual curve, while Harry and the others make their first journey from London to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For this adventure, we participated in a two-day tour, where we enjoyed the stunning scenery of Scotland’s Highland region; touched upon the rich history of Scotland, and rode on the Jacobite Steam Train - the real-life model of the Hogwarts Express. On day one, we left the center of Edinburgh in a minivan with 15 other people. Not long after, Force Bridge appeared before us. This World Heritage bridge was completed in 1890, but even today is solid enough to handle this region’s particularly strong winds. The minivan continued to the lakeside of Loch Ness, where we would rest for the night. At one point, when the lake was still and there wasn’t any wind at all, I spotted a single line trailing on the surface of the water. Could it have been Nessie? I felt this lake held many mysteries. It was on day two that we rode on the Jacobite Steam Train, a.k.a the Hogwarts Express, and we could hardly contain our excitement. The Jacobite Train line runs 68 kilometers between Fort William and Mallaig on the West Highland railway. About 30 minutes after our departure, we passed the long-awaited Glenfinnan Viaduct: a series of 21 slowly arching curves in the rail line. This is the stuff of dreams for railroad buffs, who can take stunning photos from the last car, of the distant locomotive running along the bridge. The steam locomotive, built more than 100 years ago, runs on the oldest concrete bridge in the world. It is hard to describe the feeling of experiencing this historical gift from the birthplace of the steam locomotive, the United Kingdom. Immediately after passing over the bridge, still brimming with excitement, we stopped at Glenfinnan station for 20 minutes. There is a trunk on the platform just like the one Harry used in the films, which immediately transported us to the terminal station of Hogwarts Express. And if you ever get the chance, don’t miss your chance to take photos riding on the magic broom! Going one way, it takes about two hours to reach Mallaig, the terminal station. Mallaig is a port town where you can take a ferry to the Isle of Skye. Since we had two hours to spare before returning, we enjoyed strolling around the town and tried the local specialities: fish & chips, and shrimp hamburgers made of plenty of small shrimps. Since the return trip follows the same route, I took my second chance to take photos of the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This time, I went out to the deck early to secure a good spot. From the deck, you can get even better photos than through the windows. Coming back, we passed the Glen Coe, the most beautiful valley in Scotland with a 1000-meter high mountain range. Both “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” were filmed around here.

The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection.
