民主党に政権交代してはや数ヶ月が過ぎた。
It has been several months now since the majority party changed to the Democratic Party. Criticism about the Prime Minister Hatoyama, the fact that he coolly denies things that he said just 2-3 days ago, is starting to come out. Even the public commitment made to the manifesto before the election seems not to be making much headway. The public’s irritation towards a government that cannot seem to decide its own direction is only increasing.
Cela fait déjà plusieurs mois que le Parti démocratique a pris le pouvoir au Japon. Des gens commencent à se plaindre que le chef M. Hatayama change d’idées trop souvent. Même ses engagements et promesses électorales faits avant les élections restent non tenus. D’ailleurs, le gouvernement n’a jamais vraiment été précis dans sa direction ce qui mécontente et irrite le peuple Japonais.
街では、昨日言ったことが、2・3日後にはころっと変わる鳩山首相 の発言に批判や不満の声が出始めている。選挙前に作成したマ ニフェストの公約も、 ここへきて足踏み状態。明確な方向性がし っかり定まらない政府に対し、 国民の苛立ちは増すばかり。 そんな中、今とても注目を集めている人物がいる。それは、 「坂 本龍馬」だ。 「えっ、その人物って、幕末の人じゃない？」 と思った 人もいるだろう。そう坂本龍馬は、明治維新に尽力した幕末の ヒーロー。今年のNHK大河ドラマ「龍馬伝」 では、彼の破天荒で 波乱に満ちた33年の生涯を、人気俳優で歌手でもある福山雅 治が演じ話題を集めている。 また、坂本龍馬にゆかりのある地 を巡る旅行ツアーは、ツアーに参加したいという客が殺到。お まけに、坂本龍馬人形も発売され、人形にセットされたボタン を押すと、何パターンかの音声が流れ、それを聞いた人々を勇 気づけるという。例えばこんなセリフ。 「くよくよしたらいかんぜ よ！」 とか。(う〜ん、すごく元気になれそう〜！) でも何故今、坂本龍馬がこんなにブームなのだろう？以前から
At such times, there is a person that is attracting much attention these days. He is Ryoma Sakamoto. You ask if I got the name right, because he is a person from the end of Edo period. Yes! This Ryoma Sakamoto is the hero of the end-Edo period, one who committed himself to the Meiji Revolution. This year’s NHK (National TV)’s period drama “The tales of Ryoma” depicts the period of thirty three years of charged atmosphere, which was a result of Ryoma Sakamoto’s wild behavior – played by singer-and-actor Masaharu Fukuyama - is the talk of the town. There are also tours taking tourists to places which Ryoma Sakamoto visited, and they are widely popular. There are also Ryoma Sakamoto dolls, which say sentences when we push a button. These words of Sakamoto are said to be extremely motivating – they may be something like “There’s no use being frightened!” (Oh! I feel cheered up already!)

Japan – a country where we cannot really see what the future has in store. Jokes apart, if someone can manage to bring today’s Japan back on track, it would be Ryoma Sakamoto. He would say “Hey ... it’s high time the Japanese government got its act straight!”
En cette période d’incertitude, une personne attire l’attention de tout le monde, il s’agit de Ryoma Sakamoto. Oui ! Il porte le même nom qu’un héro de l’histoire politique du Japon, qui pendant la période de Bakumatu (fin de la période des samouraïs) s’est engagé dans la Révolution de Meiji. Cette année, le chanteur populaire et acteur Masaharu Fukuyama, joue aussi dans une série télé inspirée de la vie courte et agitée de Ryoma qui a vécu jusqu’à l’âge de 31 ans. Les tours qui sont également organisés pour visiter les lieux historiques de Ryoma Sakamoto sont très populaires et toujours complets. Il existe même une figurine de Ryoma qui parle! Elle prononce quelques phrases encourageantes en disant « Ne t’en fais pas ! ». Ça me remonte déjà le moral! Mais pourquoi tout le monde parle de Ryoma Sakamoto en ce moment? Des livres, des émissions de télé parlant de lui existent depuis toujours. La raison pour laquelle il attire tant de gens maintenant, c’est bien évidemment à cause de l’extrême instabilité politique au Japon. Donc dans la politique actuelle, la victoire du Parti démocratique sur le Parti libéral rappelle l’époque difficile qui était celle de Bakumatu-Meiji. Cela dit, les Japonais aimeraient s’inspirer de ses convictions solides et de ses jugements innovateurs pour reconstruire un nouveau gouvernement. Nous sommes inquiets de notre avenir. Blague à part, Ryoma Sakamoto serait le seul qui pourrait accéder sans railleries, à la présidence d’un nouveau gouvernement et reconstruire le pays! Il nous dirait « Il est grand temps de passer aux actes! ».

Have you ever found yourself waiting for a long flight at Narita airport? On the last day of your fun filled travel to Japan, before going back to Narita airport, wouldn’t you like to glance at one last sight? Near Narita airport there is a place filled with history, where you can also find typical gourmet foods, which I shall introduce to you : the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.

成田空港で、長時間のフライト待ち時間ができてしまったら？楽しか Naritasan History った日本旅行の最終日、空港に行く前に、もう一カ所観光したいと思 The temples history in Narita began in the middle of the Heian era (midったら？成田空港から近くて、日本の歴史と美食を堪能できる場所、 dle of the 10th century), when Tairanomasakado led a revolt against 成田山新勝寺をご紹介します。 Emperor Suzaku, who in return, asked a priest to push back the revolt. Eel, Narita specialty
成田名物『うなぎ』
成田山の参道には、生きたう なぎを軒先でさばき、そのま ま蒲焼きにしているお店がい くつも並ぶ。美味しそうな匂 いに、素通りはとてもできな い。ふた付きの箱に熱々ご飯を敷きつめ、その上に焼きたてのうなぎ の蒲焼きをのせた『うな重』をぜひお試しあれ。
When travelling on the road approaching the Naritasan temple, you can see aquariums filled with live eels bubbling away under the protection of the edges of the eaves. It is very common to see restaurants lined up offering eels dipped and broiled in soy-based sauce. The delicious smells make it impossible to simply pass by without indulging. In a covered box, you get a generous portion of piping hot rice covered in eel dipped and broiled in soy-based sauce. This dish is called “Unaju” and you absolutely must try it.
Le temple Naritasan Shinshoji N’avez-vous jamais eu à attendre pendant longtemps votre vol à l’aéroport de Narita? Cette dernière journée de votre excitant voyage au Japon, avant de vous rendre à l’aéroport, n’avez-vous pas eu envie de jeter un dernier coup d’oeil? Près de Narita, il y a un lieu rempli d’histoire, où vous pouvez également trouver des gourmandises traditionnelles, auquel je vais vous introduire: le temple Naritasan Shinshoji.
L’histoire de Naritasan
L’histoire de ce temple a commencé au milieu de l’ère d’Heian (milieu du 10e siècle) lorsque Taira no Masakado fût à la tête d’une insurrection contre l’empereur Suzaku, qui à son tour demanda à un prêtre de refouler les assaillants. Une longue période s’ensuivit, pendant laquelle le temple fut démantelé. Plus tard, pendant l’Ère d’Edo, un très populaire acteur de kabuki, Ichikawa Danjuro, fut né à Narita et fit plusieurs pèlerinages à ce sanctuaire. Ce sont ces fameux pèlerinages plongés dans la tradition qui ont fait de cet endroit un lieu incontournable de la région.
Anguille, la spécialité de Narita
Quand on s’approche du temple Naritasan, on peut voir le long du chemin un resto après l’autre qui vous offre des anguilles grillées et trempées dans la sauce soja. De plus, les anguilles sont cuisinées dans la rue devant les yeux des passants. Les arômes incroyables qu’on y sent nous empêchent de nous en passer et nous forcent à nous gâter. On obtient donc une boîte où l’on trouve une généreuse portion de riz fumant couvert d’anguilles trempées et grillées; ce plat s’appelle « unaju ». Il faut absolument que vous l’essayiez !

La fête de l’hiver
Pour plusieurs pays à travers le monde, février est le mois où on célèbre l’Amour avec la Saint Valentin. Mais à Québec, en février, nous célébrons davantage le froid! En effet, du 29 janvier au 14 février se tiendra le plus grand carnaval d’hiver au monde; le Carnaval de Québec. Suivant de près les célèbres carnavals de Rio et de la Nouvelle-Orléans, Québec célèbre déjà sa 56e édition. Cet événement est devenu une manifestation incontournable pour la population et un moteur de l’activité touristique hivernale de la ville. Et ne soyez pas surpris de voir défiler dans la rue un immense bonhomme de neige portant fièrement la traditionnelle tuque rouge et la ceinture fléchée: il s’agit de la mascotte du carnaval: Le Bonhomme Carnaval! Durant les deux semaines de festivités, plusieurs activités sont offertes à la population et aux touristes, dont les plus populaires sont: la parade de Bonhomme Carnaval, la traversée en canoë du Fleuve St Laurent, les sculptures sur neige ainsi que le fameux palais de glace du Bonhomme qui fait le bonheur des enfants et des moins jeunes. De plus, pour vous garder bien au chaud, je vous suggère de vous habiller de façon convenable en utilisant la technique de l’oignon. Cette technique consiste à mettre plusieurs couches de vêtement. Par exemple: vous pouvez mettre un t-shirt, avec un chandail puis votre manteau. De cette façon, si vous avez trop chaud, vous pouvez enlever une couche. Et rappelez-vous, c’est par la tête que le corps perd le plus de chaleur, donc une bonne tuque est essentielle. Et si ce n’est pas assez, vous pouvez toujours traîner votre carafe de Caribou (une boisson alcoolisée, qui a été popularisée dès les premiers carnavals, préparée avec du brandy, de la vodka, du sherry et du porto). The Winter Fest
For several countries throughout the world, February is about celebrating the Love with the Valentine’s Day. But in Québec City, we celebrate winter instead! Indeed, from January 29 to February 14, the greatest winter carnival of the world will be held; the Carnival of Quebec. Following in third place on the List of Top Carnivals, after the famous carnivals in Rio and New Orleans, Québec celebrates already is 56th edition. This event snowballed into an undeniable manifestation for the entire Québec City population, and was an important vehicle for tourism and economical activity in the city. Don’t be surprised to see raveling in the street a huge snowman proudly wearing the traditional red hat and the multicolored belt: it’s the recurring figure during all the activities named Bonhomme! During the two weeks of festivity, several activities are offered to the population and to the tourists, the most popular are: the Night Parade, the Canoe Race along the St-Laurent River, the Snow Sculptures and the famous Ice Palace built for Bonhomme which makes the happiness of both the children and adults. Moreover, to keep you quite warm, I suggest you to equipping yourself in a suitable way by using the “onion technique.” This technique consists of wearing several layers of clothing. For example: you can put on a tee-shirt, with a pullover then your coat. In this way, if you are too hot, you can remove a layer. Remember, the body loses most of its heat through the head; therefore a good hat is essential. And if it’s not enough, you can always carry around your flask of Caribou (a feisty alcoholic beverage, which became popular in the early Carnivals, made with brandy, vodka, sherry and porto.) So have a good Carnival! 世界の国々では二月はバレンタイン・デーによって愛を祝福する月ですが、 ここケベック市ではそれよりも 「冬」の祝福で盛り上がります！1月29日から2月14日の間、冬季最大のカーニバルである「ケベック・カー ニバル（Carnival of Quebec）」が開催されます。有名なリオやニュー・オーリーンズのカーニバルに続き、 世界で3番目に長い歴史を誇るこのカーニバルは、今年で56回目を迎えます。 回を重ねるごとに規模が拡大し、今ではケベック市民にとってなくてはならないイベントにまで発展し ました。冬にはこのカーニバルを目当てに大勢の観光客がケベックを訪れます。この時期に街を歩い ていると、お決まりの赤い帽子にカラフルなベルトを身に着けた、誇らしげな巨大な雪だるまを見か けることがあるかもしれません。これは、Bonhomme*（ ボノム） と呼ばれる、カーニバルのイベントに 登場するマスコットです！約2週間のカーニバル期間中、市民や観光客が楽しめる数々のイベントが催 されます。ナイト・パレード、サン・ローラン川でのカヌー・レース、そして子供はもちろん大人にもうれ しい雪の彫刻とBonhommeの氷のお城などが人気です。また、暖かく過ごしていただくために「玉ね ぎ方式」で服を着ることをお勧めします。玉ねぎ方式とは、何層も重ね着をすることです。例えば、Tシャ ツ、プルオーバー、コート、 といった具合です。 こうすることで、もし暑くなれば一枚脱いで調節すること ができます。そして忘れてはならないのは、体の中で一番熱を失いやすいのは頭だということです。必 ず暖かい帽子をかぶってください。 これでも寒ければ、ポケットにカリブーの入った瓶を忍ばせておけ ば完璧です。 （カリブーとは、カーニバル開催の初期に人気になった強めのお酒で、ブランデー、ウォッ カ、シェリー、ポートワインを混ぜて作られます。）それではみなさんカーニバルを楽しんでください！ ケベック・カーニバルについてはこちらへ：www.carnaval.qc.ca/2010 最後に女性の皆さん！日本とは違い欧米ではバレンタイン・デーに恋人にプレゼントをしなければならな いのは男性です...存分に楽しみましょう！

Now I’m studying management and accounting to one day start up my own cafe. J’habite à Hiroshima. j’ai déménagé au Canada pour étudier la pâtisserie et la gestion d’affaires. Maintenant j’étudie la gestion et la comptabilité tout en travaillant, avec l’intention d’ouvrir à nouveau un café.

幟町教会 無宗教な私だけど大好きな幟町教会（世界平和記念聖堂）を紹介し よう。宗教を超えて出来ている教会というのが惹かれるところ。 広島は1945年8月に投下された原子爆弾によって街が消えてしまっ た。爆心地からわずか1.2kmにあったこの教会も焼失。苦しんでいる 人達の為に一刻も早く復建しなければいけないと当時の司祭が立 ち上がり世界中の人、街、宗教から多くの寄付寄贈によって 復活し た教会。 それは教会自体をよく見ればわかる。 ドイツの武器工場からは、 もう 武器はいらないと武器を溶かしてできた鉄の鐘。侍の格好をした人 が彫刻されている。教会の中の蓮の形をしている照明は、仏教から の贈り物。窓は松、竹、梅のデザインがされている。他にもオーストリ ア、ポルトガルなど世界の色んな人達からの力で再建された。信徒 だけの教会ではなく市民の為の教会。 数年前のクリスマスに興味本位で友達とクリスマスミサに行った時、 たくさんの信徒さんが司祭の話に耳を傾けているのを見、綺麗な声 の聖歌を聴いているとだんだん居心地が悪くなってきた。軽い気持 ちで来るんじゃなかったと反省していると先に紹介したような話を 司祭が話始めた。 「宗派も宗教も超えて再建された教会は市民の為 の教会です」 と。それを聞いてリラックスし天井からさがっている照 明や窓などを見て改めて納得。被爆地広島の土を利用して作られた レンガは教会の灰色の壁となっている。 ぜひ聖堂ボランティアガイドの方に鐘塔の一番上まで連れて行って もらって。広島の街が見渡せてオススメですヨ。
Noborimachi church
L'église Noborimachi
Even though I do not follow any particular religion, for this month’s column I would like to introduce my favorite church in Hiroshima, the “Noborimachi church” (or World Peace Memorial Church.) The reason I like this church is that it was built thanks to the support from many different people from all around the world regardless of their religions.
Même si je n’appartiens à aucune dénomination religieuse, je voudrais parler de mon église préférée à Hiroshima : l’église Noborimachi (ou World Peace Memorial Church) pour l’article de ce mois-ci. La raison pour laquelle j’aime tant cette église est qu’elle fut construite grâce à un effort global ne tenant pas compte des différences religieuses.
The city of Hiroshima was annihilated by the atomic bomb in August 1945, and the Noborimachi Church, which was located just 1.2km away from the center of the explosion, was completely burnt down. The priest of the church stood up and called for immediate reconstruction in the name of the suffering people who needed the church, and with the donations of many people, cities and religious groups from all around the world, the church was rebuilt. If you look at the whole building carefully, you can see that this church was truly built by the support of many. For example, the iron bell was made by using the metal sent from German arms factory where people melt down the weapons that they believed they no longer needed; There is even a man in samurai costume carved on it. The lotus shaped lights in the church were donated by Buddhists. The windows have designs of pine trees, bamboo and plum trees. Support was also received from Australia and Portugal and many other countries. This church is not only for the Christians but also for the citizens of Hiroshima. A few years ago when I visited the church to attend a Mass on Christmas day, as I watched people around me listening to the priest’s talk and listened to the beautiful voice singing the hymns, I started to feel uncomfortable sitting there. I began to regret that it was such a frivolous idea to come down here when the priest began to tell the story of the reconstruction of the church that I mentioned above. He said “this church which was rebuilt by the support from many people regardless of their religions is for all the citizens.” When I heard him saying this, I felt relieved and was convinced by his words as I looked up and noticed the shape of the lights and designs on the windows. The gray walls of the church are made of bricks from the soil of Hiroshima. I recommend to ask a volunteer tour guide from the church to take you up to the top of the belfry from where you can have a good view of Hiroshima city.
Une bombe atomique tomba sur Hiroshima en août 1945, et l’église de Noborimachi qui se situait à seulement 1.2 km du centre de l’explosion a été détruite. Le prêtre de celle-ci demanda une reconstruction immédiate afin de venir en aide aux souffrants.C’est grâce aux dons des personnes, villes, et groupes religieux de par le monde qu’elle fut reconstruite. C’est en observant l’édifice avec attention que les efforts déployés pour la reconstruire deviennent encore plus évidents. Par exemple, la cloche en fer est faite à partir de métal envoyé par des manufactures d’armes allemandes, celles-ci ayant fondu les armes inutiles. Il y a même une gravure d’un homme en costume de samurai. Les lampes en forme de lotus proviennent d’une donation des instances responsables des sectes bouddhistes. Les fenêtres présentent des dessins de pains, de bambou, et de pruniers. L’effort de reconstruction vint de plusieurs pays, dont l’Australie et le Portugal. Cette église est autant pour les chrétiens que pour les citoyens d’Hiroshima. Il y a quelques années quand je suis allé à la messe de Noël, et que je regardais les gens écouter le prêtre parler et les différents hymnes chantés par la chorale, j’étais un peu inconfortable. Je me disais que venir ici alors que le prêtre racontait l’histoire de la reconstruction de l’église n’était pas la meilleure des idées. Il dit “cette église a été rebâtie grâce à l’effort de plusieurs gens malgré leur appartenance religieuse respective et appartient à chaque citoyen”. Je me suis mis à mieux me sentir, convaincu par ses mots, et j’observais les formes des lumières et les dessins sur les fenêtres. Les murs gris de l’église sont en fait fabriqués à partir du sol d’Hiroshima. Je suggère de demander une visite guidée à un bénévole de l’église qui vous montrera le beffroi, d’où est visible la ville d’Hiroshima.

The heart is pounding and feeling quite anxどきどき☆わくわく☆２月と言えばもちろん バレンタインですね！街中が赤とピンクに染 まり、 ハート型のものがあっちこっちで目に入 ります。そして定番のチョコも色んな形で色 んな味で売られており、 花屋さんも商売繁盛！ 日本では、 男の子達は 「今年はいくつチョコも らえるだろうか」 とわくわく。女の子は「今年こ そ本命のチョコを渡すわ」 とどきどき。 こっち でも同じように心が激しく揺れ動く感情に満 たされます。 ただ一つ違うことは、 男の子も同 時に女の子にチョコをあげられることです。 小学校のころは、もちろんチョコもありまし たが、一番人気だったのがバレンタインのカ ード配りでした。はがきの丁度半分くらいの 大きさのカードをお店で一箱何十枚入りの を購入し、一枚一枚に友達の名前を書き、バ レンタインの日に配るのです。その日は誰が 一番多くもらったかで盛り上がる日でした。 そして本命の子にはチョコ、又はハート型の シナモンキャンディーを配っていました。 ハイスクールでは、毎年同じ行事がありまし た。バラの花一本とメッセージカード付きで ２ドルくらいを学校側が用意してくれていま した。それを送りたい友達、又は本命の子の 分を好きなだけ購入しそれぞれにメッセー ジを書きます。バレンタインの日の朝は、生 徒会長が代表で宛先へと配るのです。もち ろん誰が何本もらうかが勝負！時には色分 けといったアイディアもあって、黄色のバラ は友情、ピンクは気になる相手、そして赤は 本命の相手でした。匿名のもあればはっきり と名前を記入する子もいます。 特にハイスクールでは、フランス語の学校 であったため、様々な国からの子達がたくさ んいました。 カルチャーも言葉も全然違った 中、 この日は誰もそれを問わず参加してい たのを覚えています。 「好き」な気持ち、そし てその気持ちを勇気を振り絞って伝えるっ て事がみんな同じでした。みんな同様この 日は特別で、みんなの心はどきどきとわくわ く感に溢れていました。 「好き」 という気持ちを抱いた心って、温か くなりますね。たとえその気持ちが親友、恋 人、家族、又は結婚相手、そしてどこの国か らの子への気持ちであっても、みんな同じよ うに心という物はポカポカと暖まるものな のですね。みなさん、ハッピー・バレンタイ ンの日お送りくださいませ♪

The usual chocolates that come in many different shapes and sizes are sold everywhere, and flower shops are booming with customers!

In Japan, boys are excited with the amount of chocolate they receive every year, while the girls are nervous to hand out that one chocolate to that special person. Here we have something similar, though one thing that is different is that boys can also give chocolates to the girls on that day.

In elementary school, although we had the usual chocolates, the most popular item to hand out was the Valentine cards. Half the size of a normal postcard, these cards were sold in bulks of a few dozens. Each card was addressed and signed, and were handed out on Valentine’s Day; competing to see who received the most cards was only natural. And there was also the typical chocolate or the heart-shaped cinnamon bits handed out to that one special person. In high school, we had a tradition. Every year the student council would prepare a gift of a rose with a card that sold for about 2 dollars a set. Anyone interested in purchasing a set reserved as many as wished and wrote a little note on each one. Come Valentine’s Day, the head of the student council distributed them to the addressees. Competing to see who received the most roses was, again, natural. At times the committee had changed things around and prepared color coded roses, each carrying a different message: yellow meant friendship; pink, a crush; and red, love for that special someone. Some were sent anonymously, while some were not. In high school, since it was a French school, there were many students from many different countries. Yet despite the differences in culture and language, no one was at odds, and everybody participated on this special day. The feeling of love and the challenge to express that special feeling took the same effort and courage from everyone regardless. For everyone, this was that one special day where our hearts were all filled with excitement and nervousness.

Ces chocolats habituels qui viennent en beaucoup de formes et tailles différentes sont vendus partout, et les fleuristes prospèrent, leurs magasins remplis de gens!

À l’école primaire, même si nous avons eu les chocolats typiques, la chose le plus populaire à distribuer était les cartes de la Saint-Valentin. La moitié de la taille d’une carte postale normale, ces cartes étaient vendues en vrac de quelques douzaines. Chaque carte était adressée et signée, et elles étaient ensuite distribuées le jour de la Saint-Valentin; concurrencer pour voir qui avait reçu le plus de cartes était naturel. Il y avait aussi le chocolat typique ou bien les petites friandises à la cannelle en forme de cœur qui étaient données à cette personne toute spéciale. Au secondaire, nous avions une tradition. À chaque année, le comité des élèves préparait un cadeau qui contenait une rose et une petite carte pour environ 2 dollars chacun. Ceux qui étaient intéressés à en acheter en réservaient autant qu’ils désiraient et écrivaient un petit mot sur chacun des cadeaux achetés. Le jour de la SaintValentin, la responsable du comité des élèves les distribuait aux destinataires. La compétition pour voir qui en avait reçu le plus était, encore une fois, naturelle. Parfois le comité changeait un peu les choses et préparait différentes roses colorées, chacune ayant un message différent: jaune signifiait l`amitié; rose, un peu plus qu’une simple amitié ; et le rouge, l`amour envers cette personne spéciale. Certains cadeaux étaient envoyés anonymement, et d’autres ne l’étaient pas. Dans mon école secondaire, puisque c’était une école française, il y avait beaucoup d’étudiants de beaucoup de pays différents. Mais même avec ces différences culturelles et linguistiques, personne ne posait de questions, et tout le monde participait de cette journée spéciale. Le sentiment d’amour et de le désir de l’exprimer prenait le même effort et courage à tout le monde. Pour tous, celle-ci était une journée spé-

男と女の間に、深い河、溝があるとは昔から言われていること。 でも、皆 さん、時々気が付きませんか？女性である自分の中に、或いは男性で ある己の中に、確かに異性の声が聞こえることに…。今月ご紹介するモ ン・ナイ・ガールは、広大な大地カナダにて唯一、 「スター・サファイア・ エナジー・ワーク」なるセッションを行っているマッサージ・セラピス ト、Bagiya優美子さんです。
It has been said that there is a deep river and a ditch between men and women since the old days. Have you ever notice that sometimes you can hear an inner voice in you? A voice that perhaps sounds like one of the opposite sex? This month, I would like to introduce Yumiko Bagiya. A massage therapist who conducts a session called “Star Sapphire Energywork.” A unique session in this vast land of Canada.

Ce mois-ci, j’aimerais vous présenter madame Yumiko Bagiya, une massothérapeute qui propose des séances d’une thérapie qui se nomme « Star Sapphire Energy Work ». Bagiya-san est la seule à offrir ce type de séance dans cette vaste contrée qu’est le Canada.
「スター・サファイア・エナジー・ワーク」 とは、人間一人一人が、生まれ ながらにして必ず持っている男性性、女性性の二極を「観る」 ワーク。 こ のワークは特に、仕事や対人関係の悩みを持つ人に向いているそうな。 まずは相談者とディスカッション。次に、相談者は横になり、Bagiyaさ んは、両足と体の７つのチャクラ （エネルギーセンター）から、相談者 がどれだけ自分の中の性格（質）に気づいているかを見ます。そして、 その気づきの度合いによって セッションの具体的進行内容 は変わってくるそうです。 例えば、対人関係の悩みがあ るとすれば、該当者を目の前 に想定し、感じることを率直に 話してもらう。その後、今度は その該当者側に立って、該当 者の気持ちになって感じるこ とを話してもらう。そうすると、 該当者が見る自分自身が「観 えて」 くる。或いは自分の中の 男性性側に立って感じること を話し、その後女性性側に立 って感じることを話す。そうす ると、 自分自身の中にある男性 と女性がどうかかわり合って いるかが「観えて」 くる…。

“Star Sapphire Energywork” is “to see” the male-female polarities that everybody posses from the time of their birth. This work is especially effective to those who have problems at work and difficulties in a relationship. At the beginning of the session, she sits down with the client and has a conversation with them, asking questions to better understand him. She then lays him down to see how much he is aware of his own character (quality) within himself. Checking the seven Chakras or energy centers in both feet and the body. Depending on the degree of his awareness, she creates a tailor-made session.
For example, if the client is having difficulty in a relationship, she asks him to imagine the target person and to talk about her frankly. She then asks him to talk about how he feels from the point of the target person’s view. In doing so, he can “see” himself from the other person’s point of view or to put it more simply from the other person’s eyes. She might even ask him to talk about his feelings from that female point of view as if he were the woman. 実際に、簡単にやってみましょ うか、ということで、Bagiyaさ ん、NICOの両目を使ってのセッション開始。アイマスクで右目を隠し、 左目でBagiyaさんを見つめ、質問に答えます。その後マスクを入れ替 えて、右目で質問に答えます。我ながらびっくり、同じ質問に対して出て くる答が違うのです。人生で一番大事なもの、左目の女性性は「愛」 「温 もり」 「優しさ」 と答え、右目の男性性は「自分自身（と言いながらちらり と左目を見ようとし！）」 「生きがい」 と答えが出てきました。Bagiyaさん は、 こうした相談者を前にして、一緒に、相談者自身が喜ぶこと、本当に やりたいことなどを探していくのです。 これは、エネルギーに働きかけるものですが、マッサージを通じて、既 にある健康な部分を広げていく 「サイキック・マッサージ」 「指圧」 「フィ ジカルマッサージ」 「妊婦マッサージ」など、他にもBagiyaさんが手がけ るワークは様々。 「コミュニケーションが好きだから」マッサージをする というBagiyaさん。人が、本来の美しさに出会う時の感動が、マッサー ジの醍醐味だそう。その温かい笑顔の奥を覗けば「観えて」きます。確 かな感動の積み重ねが、Bagiyaさんの温かな体温となって、 また別の 人を「本来の美」に導いていくのです…。己の中の男性、女性。ピンと来 る方も来ない方も、Bagiyaさんのところに「観に」行ってみませんか… ？
“Let me show you how!” Bagiya-san started the session using both my eyes. I covered my right eye with an eye mask and I answered her questions looking at her with my left eye. I then changed the eye to answer the same questions. Surprise! Surprise! My answers were different. With the left eye or my female quality, I answered “love,” “warmness” and “kindness” to the question Bagiya asked me about the most important things in the life. However, with the other side or my male quality, I answered “myself” and “to find life worth living.” Besides the above-mentioned, to stimulate client’s energy, she also provides a variety of massage sessions to further develop the healthy parts that the client already possesses, such as psychic massage, shiatsu or finger pressure therapy, physical massage, pregnancy massage and so on. Because she likes to communicate with people, Bagiya-san gives massage. According to her, the superb flavor of massage is to have a touching moment with her client when he finds his original beauty. Through her warm smile, I can see that all those accumulated moments support her body temperature and her balance of mind to lead another client to the “real beauty.” It doesn’t matter if the inner male-female doesn’t ring a bell or not. Why not visit Bagiya-san to “see” them?
L’objectif du « Star Sapphire Energy Work » est de prendre conscience de la polarité masculin-féminin qui subsiste en chacun de nous depuis notre naissance. Ce travail énergétique est particulièrement efficace pour ceux qui ont des problèmes liés au travail ou des difficultés dans une relation personnelle. Au tout début de la séance, Bagiya-san s’assoit avec le client et tente de mieux le connaître en lui posant des questions, en entretenant une conversation avec lui. Elle lui demande ensuite de s’allonger et, en observant les sept chakras (ou centres énergétiques) situés sur le corps et les pieds du client, elle tente d’évaluer à quel point il est conscient de sa propre personnalité et de la polarité qui l’habite. Bagiya-san établit alors une séance adaptée au degré de conscience du client. Si, par exemple, le client éprouve des difficultés dans une relation, Bagiyasan lui demande d’imaginer la personne en question et de parler de celleci de façon honnête. Elle lui demande ensuite de se placer du point de vue de la personne en question et d’expliquer comment elle se sent. Ce faisant, le client peut « se voir » du point de vue de l’autre, ou, d’une certaine façon, de se voir à travers les yeux de l’autre. Elle peut même demander au client de parler de ses sentiments du point de vue de cette femme, comme s’il était lui-même une femme; l’idée étant de l’aider à percevoir les côtés masculins et féminins présents en lui et de comprendre comment le fait d’ignorer une de ces facettes peut créer des problèmes ou des conflits. Bagiya-san mise sur les aspects positifs en cherchant avec son client ce qui le satisfait et ce qu’il recherche vraiment. « — Laissez-moi vous montrer! ». Bagiya-san a commencé la séance avec mes deux yeux. J’ai d’abord couvert mon oeil droit avec un masque et j’ai répondu à ses questions en la regardant de mon oeil gauche. J’ai ensuite fait le même exercice en changeant d’oeil et... Surprise!... Mes réponses étaient différentes. Avec mon oeil gauche, celui représentant mon côté féminin, lorsque Bagiya-san m’a demandé ce qui correspondait pour moi aux choses les plus importantes dans la vie, je lui ai répondu : « l’amour », « la chaleur humaine » et « la gentillesse ». Cependant, avec mon oeil droit, et donc mon côté masculin, je lui ai répondu : « moimême » et « trouver que la vie vaut la peine d’être vécue ». En plus de la thérapie dont on vient de parler, Bagiya-san propose toute une gamme de massages conçus pour stimuler l’énergie ou pour maintenir la santé de ses clients. On retrouve parmi ceux-ci le massage psychique, le shiatsu, l’acupression et les massages pour femme enceinte. C’est parce qu’elle aime communiquer avec les gens que Bagiya-san est devenue massothérapeute. Selon elle, la beauté du massage est qu’il permet de partager un moment privilégié avec le client lorsque celui-ci prend conscience de sa beauté propre. Par son seul sourire communicateur, on peut percevoir la chaleur humaine et l’équilibre mental que Bagiya-san s’est forgé par l’accumulation de tous ses moments privilégiés; un état d’esprit qui mènera sans aucun doute d’autres clients à découvrir leur « beauté intérieure ». Akiko Kodama The Takarazuka Revue Company was founded in 1914 by Mr. Ichizo Kobayashi, founder of Hankyu Corporation. It is a theatrical group with the following motto: “Be clean, honest and beautiful.” This group of (only) women continues to captivate many fans with a mixture of singing, dancing and acting, with performances ranging from classic to contemporary. Even though industries in Japan are suffering in this current economic climate, theatres are always packed when the Takarazuka Revue Company’s shows are on.
1914年に阪急電鉄の創始者・小林一三氏によって発足された“宝塚 歌劇団”。 「清く、正しく、美しく」をモットーとし、歌・ダンス・芝居を織り 交ぜ、古典から現代劇まで、女性だけで上演される劇団として、多くの ファンを魅了し続けてきた。 不況の大波が各業界を襲っている昨今にも関わらず、劇場は常に満 員の観客で埋まっているという。 児玉明子さんは、宝塚歌劇団で脚本・演出を担当している。入団14年 目を迎えた今年、文化庁文化部芸術文化課支援のプログラム「平成 21年度新進芸術家海外研修制度」を利用して、モントリオールにやっ てきた。 これは、 日本の将来の文化芸術の振興を担う人材を育成する ため、各分野の若手芸術家などに、海外で実践的な研修に従事する 機会を提供する制度である。
Deeply impressed by a play she had seen, Ms. Kodama came to Montreal in 2009 to study Polygraph, directed by Montreal-born Robert Lepage. Using light and shadow in innovate ways, Polygraph’s story line was based on imaginative ideas that were miles ahead of any plays Ms. Kodama had seen at that time. So she chose Quebec, the place that nurtured Mr. Lepage’s artistic sensitivity, to refine her own.
児玉さんがモントリオールを研修先として選んだ理由は、ケベック出 身の演出家ロベール・ルパージュ氏が演出した「ポリグラフ」の舞台 を日本で見て衝撃を受けたからだそうだ。光と影を巧みに使い、豊か な発想に基いたストーリー展開は、当時見た他のどの舞台よりも群 を抜いていた。ルパージュ氏の感性を育てたこのケベックで、是非と も自分の感性を深めたいという思いからこの地を選んだのである。
She came to Montreal as a participant in the Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists, organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. This is a program which offers young artists opportunities to undertake practical studies abroad in order to foster young talent for the future advancement of Japanese culture and art.
児玉さんが宝塚歌劇団に入ったのは、慶応大学法学部に通っていた ときにたまたま目にした募集を見たのが切っ掛けである。それまで も、 日本の伝統芸能に興味があった児玉さんは、 この特殊な世界に入 ることに抵抗はなかったそうだ。 「宝塚は先輩後輩を重んじますし、なによりも今まで続いてきた伝統 を大切にしています。私自身はそれまで、他の演劇の世界を知らなかっ たので、 自分のいる世界が特殊だという感覚はありませんでした。むし ろ、宝塚歌劇団の生徒が純粋でストイックであり、 また舞台に対してと ても真剣に取り組んでいる姿に、いつも励まされています」 と語る。
During a conversation with Ms. Kodama, she told us the following: “In the Company, we value the vertical relationship of seniors and juniors, and above all, we treasure the traditions which have continued until today. I never felt that the world I belong to was unusual, because I was never involved in any other theatrical performances. Rather, the students of the Takarazuka Revue Company are pure and stoic, as well as being serious about performing on stage, and this encourages me all the time.” Here is her message to young Coco Montreal readers who are in search of future possibilities:
今、自分の進むべき道を摸索しているココモン世代の読者に、 「焦ら なくていいんじゃないでしょうか。実際に、私も自分の理想と現実のギ ャップに悩んだこともありました。 でもある先輩の方に『お前ごときが プレッシャ－なんて感じることはない。やれることをやればいいんだ よ』 と言われて、気持ちが楽になったことがありました。モントリオー ルに住みだして感じることは、 ここはいろいろなものが止まっていな い、流れている所なのだと思います。そんな中で自分をしっかりと見 つめることは難しいかもしれません。 でも、その反面、いろいろなもの を吸収できる場所でもあると思います」 と目をきらきら輝かせる。
“There is no need to rush. I was once hung up on the gap between the dream and reality until a senior of mine gave me this advice: ‘You don’t need to feel the pressure. Do what you can do.’ That made me feel much better. What I have been feeling since I started living in Montreal is that this is a place where nothing is on halt and everything is flowing. It can be difficult to take a long look at myself in this environment. But on the other hand, this is a place where I can absorb so many things, I think.”
日の昇り方や沈み方、 道に溢れている街の音、 雑踏を行き交う人々の表 情や仕種、 いろんなものから刺激を受けて、 変化していく自分が楽しみだ という児玉さん。 目標に向かって真っ直ぐに生きる姿は、 清くて美しい。
She continued to tell us that she is looking forward to seeing herself change because of inspiration received from a variety of situations, such as the sunrise and sunset, city noise, and the faces and attitudes of people she meets on the street. She strives to achieve her goal, and that in itself is pure and beautiful.

1974年９月18日生、東京都出身。慶応義塾大学法学部政治学科卒業 後、1997年4月、宝塚歌劇団に演出助手として入団。作品ごとに込めている メッセージは、”人は愛するために生まれてきた”。1998年宝塚バウホール公 演『Endless Love』 （花組） で脚本・演出家デビュー。2007年『シークレット・ハ ンター』 （星組） で大劇場デビュー。
Ms. Akiko Kodama is the script writer and stage director at the Takarazuka Revue Company, and this year marks her 14th anniversary working for them. What triggered Ms. Kodama to join the Takarazuka Revue Company was an advertisement she happened to see for new recruits. Although she was a student majoring in law at the Keio University, she was already interested in Japanese traditional performing arts, so she did not hesitate to join the unique world of the Takarazuka Revue Company.
Born in Tokyo, on 18th September, 1974. After graduating from Keio University’s Faculty of Law, Department of Political Science, she joined the Takarazuka Revue Company as an assistant stage director. Ms. Kodama is known for her ability to spot each performer’s unique qualities, and bring out the most attractive qualities of each Takarazuka actor. The message she sends through each play she is involved in is “everyone is born to love.” She made her debut as a script writer/stage director in 1998, with Endless Love (Flower Troupe), which was performed in the Takarazuka Bow Hall. In 2007, Secret Hunter (Star Troupe) was the first of her plays to be shown in a big hall.
La Takarazuka Revue a été mis sur pied en 1914 par Ichizô Kobayashi, fondateur de la compagnie de chemins de fer Hankyû. Constituée uniquement de femmes, cette troupe de spectacle dont la devise est « pureté, précision, beauté » continue de séduire un grand nombre d’admirateurs grâce à ses productions classiques ou modernes qui allient chant, danse et théâtre. En dépit du marasme actuel qui touche durement tous les secteurs de l’économie, les représentations du Takarazuka Revue font toujours salle comble. Akiko Kodama fait partie de la troupe depuis 14 ans et s’occupe des scénarios et de la mise en scène. Cette année, elle s’est rendue à Montréal grâce à un programme de l’Agence de la culture du Japon qui offre aux jeunes artistes de divers domaines la chance d’effectuer un stage pratique à l’étranger. Le but visé par ce programme est de former ceux qui auront la tâche de promouvoir les arts et la culture du Japon. Akiko Kodama a choisi Montréal à cause de la pièce « Le polygraphe » mise en scène par le Québécois Robert Lepage. Lorsqu’elle a assisté à une représentation de cette œuvre au Japon, ce fut le choc : le déroulement de l’histoire foisonnant d’imagination ainsi que l’utilisation judicieuse de l’ombre et de la lumière distinguaient cette pièce de toutes celles qu’elle avait vues jusqu’à maintenant. C’est donc le désir de développer sa propre sensibilité dans le lieu qui avait nourri celle de Robert Lepage qui a poussé Akiko Kodama à choisir le Québec. Akiko Kodama s’est jointe au Takarazuka Revue après avoir aperçu par hasard une annonce de recrutement alors qu’elle était étudiante à la Faculté de droit de l’Université Keiô. À l’époque, elle cultivait déjà un intérêt pour les arts traditionnels japonais, et son entrée dans ce monde particulier s’est faite sans hésitation. « Au Takarazuka Revue, on respecte l’ancienneté des membres, et plus important encore, on prend soin de la tradition qui se poursuit encore aujourd’hui. Pour ma part, comme je n’avais jamais connu les autres mondes des arts de la scène, je n’avais pas l’impression que le monde où je me trouvais était spécial. Les étudiantes du Takarazuka Revue sont authentiques et stoïques; leur attitude très sérieuse face à la scène m’encourage toujours beaucoup », explique Akiko Kodama. Elle livre également ces conseils aux lecteurs de la génération Coco Montréal qui cherchent leur voie. « Je pense qu’il n’est pas nécessaire de s’impatienter. J’ai moimême eu des soucis au sujet du décalage entre mes idéaux et la réalité. Mais une des membres de la troupe plus expérimentée m’a dit : « Quelqu’un comme toi n’a pas à ressentir de pression! Si tu fais ce que tu peux, tout ira bien. » Je me suis sentie plus à l’aise. Depuis que je suis établie à Montréal, j’ai l’impression que cette ville est un endroit où toutes sortes de choses sont en mouvement et ne s’arrêtent jamais. Dans un environnement comme celui-là, il peut être difficile de porter un regard fixe sur sa propre personne. Mais je crois que d’un autre côté, c’est un endroit où on peut assimiler beaucoup de choses », ajoute-elle, les yeux brillants. La manière qu’a le soleil de se lever et de se coucher, les sons de la ville qui remplissent les rues, les gestes et l’expression des passants dans la foule… Akiko Kodama dit qu’elle est stimulée par tout cela, et c’est avec plaisir qu’elle se voit changer sous ces influences. Cette femme qui vit droitement en se dirigeant vers son but est rayonnante de pureté et de beauté. Née le 18 septembre 1974 à Tôkyô. Après ses études au Département de politique de la Faculté de droit de l’Université Keiô, elle se joint au Takarazuka Revue en avril 1997 en tant qu’assistante à la mise en scène. Avec sa vision particulière, elle met en lumière la personnalité des interprètes afin de dévoiler les attraits des membres de la troupe. Le message que l’on trouve dans chacune de ses œuvres est le suivant : « Nous sommes nés pour être aimés. » Akiko Kodama a fait ses débuts en tant que scénariste et metteuse en scène en 1998 avec le spectacle « Endless Love » au Bow Hall Takarazuka. L’année 2007 marque ses débuts au Takarazuka Grand Theater avec le spectacle « Secret Hunter ».

What I like about St. Valentine’s Day is of course, the love. It is the day I can let that special person in my life know how much they mean to me and how much they fill my own heart. I would like to recommend a restaurant to those who wish to spend time with their precious person happily on such a special day.
Old style houses built in the beginning of the 19th century on Saint-Rose – an old road along Mille Îles river on the north side of Laval , reminds us of those old days. レストランのオーナーは、 ロベルト・デカリィさん、 人が喜んでい るのを見るのが大好きという。 彼にとって従業員は家族同然、 食 べにきてくれるお客様は友人として迎えているそうだ。2001年 からは、 レストラン脇にオーベルジュを新たに開業している。 ラバル市内にはおおよそ450件ほどのレストランがあるそうだ が、ケベック州観光局が毎年認定するレストラン・コンテスト で、 ラバル観光地区内において過去４回金賞に輝いている。 4月下旬から9月下旬までは、噴水の音がBGMとなり花が咲き 乱れる中央テラスで、のんびりとランチを楽しむことも可能だ。 私が行った平日のランチタイムでは、奥の部屋でパーティ が催されていた。 日替わりメニューの上には『BONNE FÊTE Mme Fernande pour vos101 ans（マダム・フェルナンドさん 101歳の誕生日おめでとう）』のプリントがしてあった。嬉しい ことはみんなで歓びを分け合おうという、ロベルトさんの配 慮に基づくものだ。
Les Menu-Plaisirs built in 1982 has many regular customers. The main menu includes meat and fish dishes with unique sauces and all the ingredients are local. The restaurant keeps on hand 5,200 bottles of wine with 650varities. The owner himself brought his Sunday carpenter’s skills into the interior decoration. The best part is the warm and friendly greetings from the staff. Robert Décary, the owner of the restaurant, loves to see people taking delight in their food. I was told that he treats his employees like members of his family. In 2001, he also started the inn besides the restaurant. The restaurant has won 4 gold medals among approx. 450 restaurants in the Laval tourist area, in a contest that the Quebec government has every year to acknowledge excellent restaurants in the area. You can enjoy lunch with the sounds of the water fountain in the main terrace where flowers bloom between late April and late September. When I visited during lunch time on a weekday, a party was being held in the back room. At the top of the day’s special menu, “BONNE FÊTE Mme Fernande pour vos 101 ans (Mrs. Fernande, Many Happy returns to your 101th birthday)” was written. Robert made all the arrangements for sharing the happy event with everybody that came in the restaurant.

モントリオ―ルに根を降ろしてから早14年。 某観光会社のガ イドをしながらも、 日系新聞の記者やコミュニティ誌に記事を 投稿しています。 モントリオ―ル・ケベックが大好きな私が、 特 選した場所を紹介します。
Une journée très spéciale en compagnie d’une personne chère À l’approche de la Saint-Valentin, la ville commence déjà à se couvrir de cœurs rouges et autres symboles d’amour. Ces images réchauffent nos cœurs gelés par le froid de l’hiver en nous redonnant du courage et de l’espoir. Ce que j’aime à propos de la Saint-Valentin, c’est évidemment l’amour. C’est en effet le jour où je peux dire à cette personne chère combien elle compte pour moi, combien elle remplie mon cœur d’amour. J’ai un restaurant à recommander à ceux qui souhaiteraient passer du bon temps avec une personne chère en ce jour de réjouissance. Sur le boulevard Sainte-Rose, une vieille route qui longe la rivière des Mille-Îles au nord de Laval, de vieilles maisons datant du début du 19e siècle nous rappellent le bon vieux temps. Récemment, ces maisons ont été transformées les unes après les autres en restaurants haut de gamme qui, je crois, ne vous décevront pas. Grâce à cela, Sainte-Rose est devenue une rue magnifique! Coïncidence; la maison de Céline Dion est elle aussi située sur cette rue. Construit en 1982, le restaurant « les Menus-Plaisirs » accueille beaucoup de clients réguliers. Le menu principal est composé de plats de viandes et de poissons accompagnés de sauces uniques, et tous les ingrédients sont locaux. Le restaurant possède une cave à vin de 5200 bouteilles provenant de plus de 650 maisons viticoles. De plus, le propriétaire a mis ses propres compétences de menuisier à contribution dans la décoration intérieure et le personnel offre un accueil chaleureux et amical. Robert Décary, le propriétaire du restaurant, aime entendre les gens complimenter la nourriture. On m’a dit qu’il traite tous ses employés comme des membres de la famille. Il a même ouvert en 2001 une petite auberge à côté du restaurant. Cet établissement a gagné 4 médailles d’or lors d’une compétition annuelle organisée par le gouvernement québécois et regroupant environ 450 restaurants dans le secteur touristique de Laval. Vous pourrez apprécier un bon dîner au son de la fontaine sur la terrasse bordée de fleurs de la fin avril à la fin septembre. Quand j’y suis allée, la semaine durant l’heure du midi, on avait organisé une fête à l’arrière du restaurant. Au-dessus du menu spécial du jour était écrit « BONNE FÊTE Mme Fernande pour vos 101 ans ». M. Décary avait tout organisé pour partager cet événement heureux avec tous les clients présents ce jour-là. Quand je me suis assise, je ne pouvais m’empêcher de regarder tous ces couples qui profitaient de la compagnie de l’autre tandis que les célibataires mangeaient leur repas en paix, un livre à la main. Tout le monde est bienvenu et tout est mis en oeuvre pour que l’on se sente à l’aise. Lorsque vous visiterez ce restaurant pour y déguster des plats tout simplement délicieux, vous aurez aussi la chance de partager votre joie avec ceux qui vous entourent.

How to improve luck for health Hello People in Montreal. Hope you are well. This is the 12th and will be the last segment. I hope you understand Feng Shui better now. You know, you can work well or do what you like all because you are well. So this time I will introduce how to improve luck for health by Feng Shui. The place that influences your health the most is the kitchen. If the kitchen is filled with good chi, your family has no health problems. In China, the place where we cook food to help keeping our lives is the most important. If the place is filled with fresh and good chi, that brings good chi for food as well. If you eat foods with good chi, inevitably good chi will flow into your body. It is important to keep the kitchen clean and tidy wherever it is located. If the kitchen is dirty, bad chi is coming so please clean the dirt every day. If a knife is left on the kitchen counter, that causes quarrels between husband and wife so please put it back in its knife stocker. Decorating flying pans on the wall is not good either. Please put all the cooking utensils in the drawers where they belong. Fire and water are not compatible in Feng Shui. Please keep them apart. For example, microwave and kettle or coffee machine; cooker and fridge
should be put apart. It is also not a good idea to put the oven toaster on the fridge. If you cannot make a space anywhere else, please put something like a thick board between them. If around the cooker is dirty, you might suffer with pain above the neck. This is because bad chi is coming from the dirty cooker or fan and influences your health. Please clean each day. Do you attach memos or photos on the fridge door? This is also not good in Feng Shui as bad chi going into the fridge every time it’s opened. If you really want to do so, please attach the memos or photos on the sides of the refrigerator. You need to keep the fridge door clean as well as the entrance. As for the dining table, a round shape is good for family luck. In Feng Shui, round shape is auspicious so if the table is round, families can do well. Wooden table is good as wood has warm impression and good chi come around and stay in. Keep the kitchen clean and try to improve luck for your health.

While living in Japan, I met a variety of people, all of whom agreed that the colder months of the year seemed to bring on a severe and recurring symptom of ‘cold hands and feet,’ one which only appeared to affect the ‘gentler sex’. Having experienced a childhood of Canadian winters that often hit the minus 30 mark, I understood this syndrome only too well – though I never thought to associate it with my gender. I must have taken to heart what my high school French teacher told me so many loves ago. As I complained of icy hands in class one day, she winked at me, and said: “Cold hands, warm heart,” and smiled knowingly. (I had just started dating my high school sweetheart. I blushed and promptly headed back to my seat.)
Lorsque j'habitais au Japon, j'y ai rencontré une grande variété de gens, et tout un chacun s'entendait pour dire que les mois les plus glacials ont tendance à s'accompagner d'un symptôme assez sévère et récurrent, celui des « pieds et mains froides ». On disait aussi que ce symptôme touche principalement les individus de sexe féminin. Puisque j'avais fait l'expérience des hivers canadiens et de leur température pouvant souvent atteindre -30 degrés Celsius, je ne comprenais que trop bien ce symptôme — que je n'avais par contre jamais directement associé au sexe féminin. J'ai sûrement pris au pied de la lettre ce que mon professeur de français au secondaire m'avait dit il y a longtemps : alors que je me plaignais de mes mains glacées en classe, elle me fit un clin d'oeil en disant « Mains froides, coeur chaud », et m'adressa un sourire complice. (Je venais de commencer à fréquenter mon premier amour. Je rougis donc et retourna rapidement à mon siège.)
Years later, I found myself on the other side of the world, trying to survive my first frigid February in Japan. Although temperatures never came close to a frostbite-filled February in Canada, I still found the Japanese winter experience to be much more of a challenge. Yes, the outdoors may have been considered mild by Canadian standards but indoors (you know, the one place in Canada where you can actually wear a tee-shirt in the wintertime) was pure hell—without the heat. Lacking both central heating and insulation, Japanese homes are chilly, to say the least. This drastic difference in indoor heating sparked my first case of homesickness in Japan. I’d come home after a hard day’s work only to wrap myself more tightly in my winter coat. I’d watch white breaths of air leave my mouth between sips of warm soup. I’d shiver myself to sleep under a pile of blankets; and I’d dread the freezing midnight trips to the bathroom. I soon learned that there is no worse time to be single than during a Japanese winter. Without a boyfriend to cuddle away your winter blues, winter in Japan can be almost unbearable. But luckily, before I had a boyfriend to cuddle with on a cold winter’s night, I learned about the warming effects of kotatsu(1) tables, futons(2), nabe(3) parties, and dips in the onsen(4), not to mention the magical array of warming paraphernalia I’d never before heard of in the great Canadian north. After a couple of winters with Hiro though, I didn’t have to worry about my cold hands anymore. I knew I had someone special keeping my heart warm. (1) A low table, with heat lamps attached to the underside. Often kept in a Japanese living room, Japanese people enjoy draping a futon blanket around the table, and keeping themselves warm by sitting or lying partially underneath. (2) A Japanese “futon” is synonymous with a Canadian “duvet.” (3)Literally meaning “pot,” nabe can also refer to various types of soup. Throwing a variety of ingredients into a huge ceramic pot, Japanese families and friends will enjoy both making and eating this soup together, especially when it’s cold outside. (4) Japanese hot springs.
日本に住んでいた頃は様々な出会いがありました が、共通意見として、年で一番冷え込む数カ月は重 度の「冷たい手足」の症状に頻繁に苦しめられまし た。それはどうやら「女性特有」 という事でした。頻 繁にマイナス３０度台まで達するカナダの冬の中 で育った私には、この徴候は容易に理解できまし た— 特に女性、 という括りで考えた事はありません が。恐らく、高校時代のフランス語の先生がおっしゃ ったある事を心に留めていたからだと思います。あ る日、授業中に冷え切った手の事で文句を言ってい た時、彼女は私にウィンクをし、 「冷たい手、温かい 心」 と意味あり気に微笑まれたのです。 （ちょうど、高 校時代の恋人と付き合い始めたばかりの頃でした。 私は赤面し、即座に席に戻りました。） それから数年後、私は地球の反対側で、 日本での初 めての２月を乗り越えようとしていました。霜焼けに 苦しめられるカナダの２月の気温には程遠いもので はありましたが、私は日本の２月の方が辛く感じまし た。 もちろん、外気温はカナダ基準によると穏やかな ものではありましたが、室内（ご存知の通り、カナダ の真冬に実際Ｔシャツで過ごせる唯一の場所）は本 当に地獄でした— 暖房無しの生活です。セントラル
ヒーティングも絶縁体も欠けている日本の家は、控 え目に表現しても、肌寒いと言ったところでしょうか。 室内暖房設備のあまりの差は、私の初めてのホーム シックを引き起こしました。一日働いて疲れて帰って も、更に冬用コートにきつく包まって過ごさねばなら ないのです。私は、温かいスープを啜りながら、合間 に出る自分の白い息を眺めていました。夜は、重ねた ブランケットに包まり、震えながら眠りに就き、夜中の 御手洗いまでの道のりを恐れたものでした。そして、 日本の冬に一人ぼっちでいるほど辛いものはない、 と間もなく思い知りました。ピタッと寄り添いながら 冬の陰鬱とした気分を吹き飛ばしてくれる彼氏がい なければ、 日本の冬に耐えるのは辛すぎるでしょう。 しかし幸運な事に、冬の夜に寄り添う事のできる彼 氏と出会うよりも早く、私は暖房効果のある 「炬燵」、 「羽毛布団」、 「鍋パーティー」や「温泉に浸かる事」、 そして言うまでもなく偉大なるカナダ北部では聞い た事もない、ありとあらゆる温めグッズを知る事が できました。 ヒロと共に過ごした冬の日々以降、もう私は冷たい 手を心配しなくても平気になりました。私の心を温 め続けてくれる人がいると知る事ができたからです。
Plusieurs années plus tard, je me suis retrouvée à l'autre bout du monde à tenter de survivre à mon premier mois de février glacial. Malgré que les températures ne frôlent jamais celles des févriers quasi arctiques du Canada, j'ai trouvé que d’affronter l'hiver japonais constituait un réel défi. En effet, bien que la température extérieure soit tolérable selon les standards canadiens, la situation à l'intérieur des maisons (vous savez, le seul endroit au Canada où l'on peut porter un t-shirt pendant l'hiver) était infernale — sans l'aspect incandescent du terme. Dépourvues de chauffage central et d'isolation, les maisons japonaises — et c'est le moins que l'on puisse dire — sont fraîches. Cette différence au niveau du contrôle de la température intérieure fut l'élément déclencheur de ma première crise de mal du pays au Japon. Après une longue journée de travail, je ne revenais à la maison que pour m'emmitoufler encore plus dans mon manteau d'hiver. Je regardais mon souffle se condenser dans l'air entre des lampées de soupe chaude. Je m'endormais en frissonnant sous une montagne de couvertures; j'anticipais avec horreur les voyages nocturnes aux toilettes. J'ai rapidement appris qu'il n'y a pas de moins bon moment pour être célibataire au Japon que durant l’hiver. Sans un copain à cajoler pour soigner les blues hivernaux, les hivers japonais sont presque insupportables. Mais, par chance, j'ai appris à apprécier les effets réchauffant des tables kotatsu, des futons, des nabe-party et des saucettes dans les Onsen — sans oublier les différents gadgets chauffants dont je n'avais jamais entendu parler dans le Grand Nord canadien — avant de me faire un copain. Après quelques hivers passés avec Hiro, je sais que je n'ai plus à m'inquiéter à propos de mes mains froides. Je sais que dorénavant, j'ai quelqu'un pour garder mon coeur au chaud.

Masato quit smoking cold turkey because it’s too cold to smoke outside. まさと君、 タバコ、キッパリやめたんだって、外で吸うのはすごく寒いから。 My new year’s resolution is to quit drinking alcohol. I’m going cold turkey. 私の今年の抱負は、お酒をやめることです。キッパリとやめます。
このように、“Cold Turkey”の言い方は、突然キッパリとやめるというときに使われ ます。 もともと“Cold Turkey”は、Talk Turkey、Talk matter- of –factly (talk straight)な どの使われ方をしており、 ストレートに言うといった意味でした。そこから、“Cold Turkey”は、Without preparation（準備が要らない） ということから、何の前触れ もなく、きっぱりとなどの意味を持つようになったようです。 例で分かるように、薬（Drug）、たばこ、お酒などを断つときに使われることが多い ようです。 カナダにきて、 タバコがあまりにも高額なためにやめた方もいっらしゃるのでは ないでしょうか。今後、禁煙を心がけている人は、是非、 この言い方を試してみて ください。
