コスタリカ （２） クロコダイルに出会った——！！
海岸で、夫が日帰り旅行のバスツアーを予約した。パロ・ベルデ（Palo Verde） と いう国立公園に行くためだった。 ミニバンでやって来たガイドさんは、マリオとい う名の、５、60歳の人で、 スペイン語が聞きやすいのがありがたかった。 途中、ふさふさと葉をつけたとうもろこしの畑や羊たちが車道を歩いているの を見送った。そうするうちにパロ・ベルデという国立公園に着いた。公園といって も、山である。 ここで、ボートに乗る。テンピスケ川（Rio Tempisque）を小さなボー トで進んでいく。 ここは、泥の湿地帯でもある。 ボートは静かに進んでいく。エンジンの音をさせていない。動物たちを驚かせ ない配慮があるのだと知る。乾期には平たい土地であるらしいが、今は雨期なの で、川にはマングローブが見える。川は深そうである。 「ああ、あそこにクロコダイルがいる！」 と案内の青年がいう。船長さんが、川べり にボートで乗り上げる。ボートが更にクロコダイルに近づくと、すべるように這っ て、方向を変え、水の中に消えた。ボートは進み続けた。 「あそこにもいるよ」 「ここにもいるよ」 という具合で、ボートから、私は５、６頭の クロコダイルを見た。好きにはなれなかったが、そのボートに乗り、何頭も見たこ とで、 この動物を怖がらなくなっていた。私にとっては、かなりの進歩であった。堅 い鎧（よろい）を着けた不気味な動物だが、写真を見れば、その目は、一見、優しそ うに見える。野生動物は、時には突然、衝動的な行動に出て、人間を襲う。野生動 物は野生的に生きるのが一番だが、人は彼らとうまくバランスをとりながら、注意 して対応していかなければならないのだと思う。

Sur la route vers Palo Verde, nous avons vu de touffus champs de maïs et des moutons marchant le long de la route. Bien que Palo Verde soit un parc national, c’est également une montagne. À notre arrivée, nous avons pris un petit bateau sur le fleuve Rio Tempisque. Nous avons longé des marais boueux.
ところで、 コスタリカには軍隊というものが ない。1949年憲法で、軍隊は持たないことが 決められているからだ。内戦が続いた隣国の ニカラグアに比べれば、コスタリカは50年も 平和を保っている。
« Wouah, il y a un crocodile là-bas! » s’est exclamé le jeune guide. Le capitaine s’est dirigé vers la berge. Lorsque le bateau s’est rapproché du crocodile, il a rampé (dans un mouvement glissant) pour changer de direction et a disparu dans l’eau. Le bateau a continué sa route.
「もしも、 と仮定して、敵が来たら、コスタリカ はどうやって防御するのかしら？」 と、 コスタリ カ出身の人と話してみた。 「コスタリカから何を奪 い た い か、その 敵 に、 こちらが聞きたいくらいだよ」 と、その人 は笑った。
« Là! » et « là! »; j’ai aperçu cinq ou six crocodiles depuis le bateau. Je n’étais pas folle des crocodiles mais je n’avais pas peur non plus après en avoir vu autant. Ce qui, pour moi, était un énorme progrès. Cela peut être inquiétant de voir un animal avec une carapace. Par contre, leurs yeux paraissent doux et bienveillants sur les photographies. Les animaux sauvages attaquent parfois soudainement les humains sans raison. C’est la meilleure façon pour eux de vivre dans la nature. Je pense pourtant qu’il est préférable que les animaux sauvages vivent dans la nature et que nous devons être prudents lorsque nous les croisons.

Costa Rica (deuxième partie)
À la rencontre des crocodiles! Mon mari a acheté les billets pour notre excursion du jour à une personne sur la plage vendant des circuits en autobus. Nous voulions nous rendre au Parc national de Palo Verde. Mario, notre guide semblant avoir entre 50 et 60 ans, est arrivé en fourgonnette. Par chance, nous comprenions son espagnol sans difficulté.
Le bateau progressait doucement, sans aucun bruit de moteur. On m’a dit qu’ils essayaient d’éviter de déranger les animaux. Alors que le terrain environnant est généralement plat durant la saison sèche, je pouvais apercevoir des mangroves dans le fleuve puisque c’était la saison des pluies. Le fleuve semblait être profond.
Durant le tour de bateau, j’ai aussi vu des singes vivant dans la montagne. Bien que nous ne devrions normalement pas les nourrir, le jeune guide leur donnait des carottes. Cela les a fait venir sur le bateau et grimper sur le dos et la tête des visiteurs. Après avoir débarqué du bateau, nous avons marché dans le parc à peine 5 minutes avant d’être surpris par des cris d’oiseaux ; un hiboux sifflait tout en tenant une douce note grave faisant « Hou Hou », un oiseau criait « Guii » et un autre sifflait à un rythme rapide pour briser la gamme de notes graves continues. Les cris d’au moins une douzaine d’espèces d’oiseaux résonnaient au-dessus de ma tête. J’ai regardé dans toutes les directions pour découvrir de quelles espèces il s’agissait. J’ai n’ai cependant pas pu tous les voir.

Costa Rica (part 2)
Encountering crocodiles! My husband bought the tickets for our day tour, from a person selling bus tours on the beach. We wanted to go to the Palo Verde National Park. Mario, our guide who looked between 50 to 60 years old, arrived by mini-van. It was lucky that he spoke clear Spanish. On route to Palo Verde, we saw bushy cornfields and some sheep walking along the roadside. Although Palo Verde is a National Park, it is also a mountain. Upon arrival, we took a small boat out onto the Rio Tempisque River. We passed muddy marshland along the way. The boat proceeded quietly, without any engine sound. I was told that they tried to avoid disturbing the animals. The surrounding land is flat during the dry season, however I could see mangroves in the river since it was the rainy season. The river seemed to be deep. “Wow, there is a crocodile over there!” said the young guide. The captain almost ran onto the riverbank. When the boat drew closer to the crocodile, he crawled (in a “sliding” motion) to change direction, and disappeared into the water. The boat kept on going. “There it is!” and “here it is!” I saw five or six crocodiles from the boat. I was not fond of the crocodiles, but also unafraid after seeing so many of them. For me, this was considerable progress. It can be eerie, to see an animal wearing a hard armour. On the contrary, their eyes looked gentle and good-natured in photographs. Wild animals sometimes out of impulse suddenly attack humans. It is the best way for them to live in the wild. However, I think wild animals are best to live in the wild and that we should be careful when encountering them. During the boat tour, I also saw monkeys living on the mountain. Although we normally shouldn’t feed them, the young guide gave them carrots. This caused them to get on the boat and climb on the backs and heads of the visitors. After we got off the boat, we walked in the park for around five minutes or so. We were surprised by the cries of birds; an owl screeched while keeping the quiet bass “Hoo-hoo,” a bird cried “Ghee,” and the other rattled in a fast pace to break the thoroughbass notations. Only the “cries” of dozens of types of birds echoed over my head. I looked in all directions to discover what kinds of birds were. However, I couldn’t see them at all. By the way, there is no army in Costa Rica. It the 1949 constitution it is written that no army would be established. Comparing to neighbouring countries such as Nicaragua where civil war continues, Costa Rica has kept the peace for 50 years.

ボートツアーで山にいる猿も見た。本来は 食べ物を与えてはいけないが、ボートの案内 の青年がニンジンをやると、猿はボートに乗 ってきて客の背や頭に乗った。ボートを降り て、 この公園をほんの５、６分歩いてみる。驚 いたのは、鳥の声だった。フクロウの「フー・ フー」 という静かな低音の上に「ヒュー！」 とい う声がする。 「ギー」 と応対する鳥がいる。 「カ タカタカタ」 と素早いスピードで静かな通奏 低音を破る鳥がいた。何十種類の「声」だけ が頭上を横切っていく。 どんな鳥なのだろう、 と方々に目を走らせるが、鳥の姿は全く見え なかった。
“If an enemy should attack, how would Costa Rica defend itself?” I tried to ask this question to a local Costa Rican. He laughed and replied “what exactly would they want take from Costa Rica?” Costa Ricans and the country are peaceful. And it looks like its standard of living is higher than other neighbouring countries.
Par ailleurs, il n’y a pas d’armée au Costa Rica. Il est écrit dans la Constitution de 1949 qu’aucune armée ne serait établie. En comparaison aux pays voisins comme le Nicaragua où la guerre civile est toujours en cours, le Costa Rica est demeuré en paix pendant 50 ans. « Si un ennemi attaquait, comment se défendrait le Costa Rica? » ai-je essayé de demander à un Costaricain. Il a ri et répondu: « Que voudraientils prendre au Costa-Rica? » Les Costaricains et leur pays sont pacifiques. Et il semble que son niveau de vie moyen est meilleur que celui des pays voisins.

L'industrie de la musique japonaise
L’industrie de la musique au Japon est unique, mais surtout intéressante. Dans cet article, quelques volets de cette dernière seront abordés. En ce qui concerne les genres musicaux dans cette industrie, le rock japonais, communément surnommé le “J-rock“, est l’un des plus populaire. Il peut plaire à tous, car les groupes musicaux de ce genre peuvent varier, allant d’un style doux jusqu’à un style plus sinistre. Au Japon, les styles musicaux sont semblables à ceux retrouvés aux États-Unis. Toutefois, ils possèdent des traits uniques qui les distinguent des musiciens américains. C’est surtout pendant les années 1980s que le rock d’Amérique a influencé la musique produite au Japon. Comme c’est le cas avec les groupes musicaux plus traditionnels en occident, au Japon on peut retrouver des groupes musicaux comprenant quatre membres. Cependant, le style unique du Japon contient aussi des exceptions comme le groupe AKB48, qui contient 48 membres à lui seul. Une autre caractéristique qui rend l’industrie musicale au Japon particulièrement unique consiste de ses vidéoclips. Contrairement à l’Europe et en Amérique du Nord, le focus du vidéo est plus misé sur la danse. La grande variété de la chorégraphie utiliser affirme ce point. Ayant donc ses propres caractéristiques, la musique japonaise peut sembler différente, voire étrange pour les Canadiens.

日本の音楽業界はとてもユニークです。今回は、その特徴について話したいと思 います。 日本の音楽業界の中で、J-ロックはとても人気があるジャンルです。J-ロックの中 には、可愛いバンドと怖いバンドがあります。 日本にも、 アメリカスタイルのバンドが ありますが、 日本独特なスタイルのバンドもあります。1980年代のアメリカのロック バンドは、 このスタイルのバンドに影響を受けました。 日本のバンドには大抵4人以 上メンバーがいます。例えば、AKB48というバンドにはメンバーが４８人もいます。 このように、日本のバンドの特徴はメンバーの数が多いことです。もう一つの特徴 はミュージックビデオです。 ヨーロッパやアメリカと違って、 日本ではミュージックビ デオにダンスを取り入れることが多いです。それに、 ダンスには色々な振り付けがあ り、ビデオの主要な部分となっています。そのため、カナダ人にとって日本のロック バンドはとても変わっていて、少し不思議な印象を受けます。 最後に日本の音楽業界で一番驚くことは、ボーカロイドです。ボーカロイドは音声 合成装置ソフトウェアのことです。 このソフトに歌詞とメロディーを入れることで、サ ンプリングされた人（歌手や俳優）の声を元にした歌声を合成することができます。 一番有名なボーカロイドは初音ミクですが、他にもたくさんいます。それぞれバーチ ャルアイドルのキャラクターが設定されています。 日本の音楽業界では人だけでは なくて、 コンピューターも歌手になれるのです。

Pour conclure, un style particulier de l’industrie de musique japonaise, le vocaloid, sera expliqué. Ce style doit son particularisme au qui est un programme qui altère le son de la voix. Les voix utilisées sont préenregistrées par des chanteurs et des acteurs. Après avoir rédigé les paroles de chanson et la création de la mélodie, le programme va chanter ces mêmes voix par l’ordinateur. Parmi plusieurs autres, une des chanteuse vocaloid les plus connues est Hatsune Miku. Chacun de ces chanteurs(se) vocaloid ont un personnage animé pour les représenter. Au Japon, ce n’est pas seulement les êtres vivants qui peuvent devenir chanter au Japon, mais aussi les ordinateurs.

The Japanese music industry
The Japanese music industry is unique, and certainly interesting. In this article, we wish to talk about certain aspects of this industry. Concerning the musical genres of this industry, Japanese rock, or more colloquially, “J-Rock,” is one of the most popular. It can appeal to anyone, since the groups’ style can vary from something soft and welcoming to something more sinister. In Japan, musical styles can resemble those found in the United States. Even so, they possess unique traits which distinguish them from American musicians. It is said that especially in the 1980s, the rock music being produced in the United States influenced the music produced in Japan. As is typical in the West for bands to have around four members, in Japan it is the same. That being said, the unique style of Japan allows for exceptions such as the group AKB48, which is made up of 48 members just by itself. Another characteristic that makes the Japanese music industry particularly unique is its music videos. In contrast to Europe and North America, the focus of many music videos is on dance. The wide variety of the choreography used affirms this point. With all of its own characteristics, it is possible that Japanese music can seem quite different, and even strange for Canadians. Finally, we will explain one last particular aspect of the Japanese music industry, namely vocaloids. This style is unique in that it is a program which alters the sound of a voice. The voices used are pre-recorded by singers and actors. After writing the song lyrics and creating the melody, the program sings with its own voice through the computer. Among many others, the most popular vocaloid singer is Hatsune Miku. Each vocaloid has an anime-style character to represent them. In Japan, it’s not only living beings who can become singers, but computers also.

Le Red Tiger そのモントリオールの食文化を特徴づけ る一つの要素に、世界各国の料理が食べ られるということが挙げられます。今月はそ の中でも代表格の一つ、ベトナム料理のお 店、Le Red Tigerを御紹介します。 ２０１５年５月にオープン。店名「赤い 虎」の赤はべトナムの国旗の赤、虎はベトナ ムを象徴する動物の一つを表しています。 カラフルで開放感のある店内でひと際目を ひくのはバーカウンター。諺「ばか騒ぎする 仲間が多いほど陽気になる」がベトナム語 で書かれています。 オーナーは、バーを切り盛りするD a n Phamさん、 シェフのPhong Thachさん、マ ーケティング担当のEmilie Nguyenさん。 シェフのPhongさんは日本料理レストラ ンKaizenを経て、現在は自身の経営する Sogenの寿司シェフでもあります。 Le Red Tigerの提供する料理はいわゆる ストリートフード。気軽に仲間とワイワイ盛 り上がりながら食べられる料理ですが、そ のルーツは母や祖母の作った家庭料理。 ど うりで体が温まるはずです。 ランチメニューは定番の一品料理の他 に、スープ類１種とご飯類１種が毎週リニ ューアルされます。一品料理からは豚のグ リルソーセージ入り生春巻き。肉厚のソー セージの濃厚な味が、たっぷりの野菜にほ どよく中和されて食欲を満たします。定番ベ トナムコーヒーを添えて。今週のスープは エスカルゴ入り。栄養価の高いエスカルゴ の食感は高級貝に近いと言われます。米粉 麺ブンや色とりどりの野菜とも相性良し。 ス ープは赤い色とは裏腹に程良くマイルド。 夜は小皿料理を並べてつつき合う居酒 屋風に。仲間と愉快に過ごすにはもってこ いです。 胃も心も満足、自ずと笑顔がこぼれます。 家族を思い仲間を思って、今日も赤い虎に 会いに行きましょう！

Selon le journaliste américain Alan Richman, « Montréal est la nouvelle capitale gastronomique de l’Amérique du Nord ». Parmi les éléments qui caractérisent la culture culinaire montréalaise, on pense naturellement à la facilité avec laquelle on peut manger de la cuisine de tous les pays du monde. Ce mois-ci, je vous présente un bon exemple de cette réalité, Le Red Tiger, un restaurant vietnamien qui a ouvert ses portes en mai 2015. Le « rouge » (red) du nom Le Red Tiger vient du drapeau vietnamien, alors que le « tigre » (tiger) est l’un des emblèmes du Vietnam. L’intérieur du restaurant est très coloré et spacieux, mais ce qui saute aux yeux avant tout, c’est le bar. Le proverbe « Plus on est de fous, plus on rit » y est d’ailleurs inscrit en vietnamien.

Les vermicelles de riz et les légumes multicolores s’harmonisent à merveille les uns avec les autres. Et malgré ce que pourrait laisser croire sa couleur rouge, la soupe est juste assez douce. En soirée, un peu comme dans un izakaya, on peut commander plusieurs petits plats pour y grignoter. C’est l’endroit parfait pour passer un moment agréable entre amis. Le cœur comme l’estomac satisfait, les rires fusent de toutes parts... En famille, entre amis, allons dès aujourd’hui à la rencontre du tigre rouge!
Dan Pham, le responsable du bar, Phong Thach, le chef, et Emilie Nguyen, la responsable du marketing, sont tous trois copropriétaires du restaurant. Le chef Phong a déjà œuvré au restaurant japonais Kaizen et il travaille actuellement comme chef sushi au restaurant Sogen qu’il administre lui-même.

According to American journalist Alan Richman, “Montreal is the new food capital of North America.” One of the unique characteristics of Montreal’s food culture is the fact that you can readily try food from all over the world. With that in mind, this month we would like to introduce a restaurant serving Vietnamese cuisine at its finest: Le Red Tiger, which opened in May, 2015. The “red” in “Le Red Tiger” represents the color of the Vietnamese flag, while the tiger is a popular symbol of Vietnam. Right as you enter into the colorful and spacious interior, the first thing you notice is the eye-catching bar. Over the bar is a saying written in Vietnamese, which translates to “The More, The Merrier.” Mr. Dan Pham, who manages the bar, Mr. Phong Thach, the Chef, and Ms. Emilie Nguyen, in charge of marketing, are the three co-owners. Chef Phong used to work at the Japanese restaurant Kaizen, and currently splits his time with his own restaurant, Sogen, working as a sushi chef. Le Red Tiger’s offerings are inspired by street food — the kind of food we eat casually with friends in a cheerful atmosphere. However, they are also firmly rooted in the home-cooked meals traditionally made by Vietnamese mothers and grandmothers. No wonder it warms us up! From the lunch menu, which changes every week, you can choose a standard dish that comes with a soup or a bowl of rice. I chose the grilled pork sausage spring roll. The rich taste from the meaty sausage combined perfectly with the vegetables that filled the roll. It really hit the spot. I also had a classic Vietnamese coffee and an escargot vermicelli soup to complete my meal. Escargot has a high nutritional value, and its texture is like that of the most prized shellfish. Moreover, the rice noodles paired wonderfully with the multicolored vegetables, and, despite its red color, the soup was on the mild side.
Les plats offerts chez Le Red Tiger s’inscrivent dans le courant de « cuisine de rue ». C’est de la nourriture qu’on mange de manière décontractée avec des amis dans une atmosphère joyeuse, mais, à l’origine, il s’agit de cuisine que préparent les mères et les grand-mères pour leur famille. Pas surprenant alors que ça réchauffe! Comme repas du midi, on propose l’un des classiques offerts à la carte, accompagné soit de riz, soit de soupe, ces plats étant renouvelés chaque semaine. Dans le menu à la carte, mon choix s’est arrêté sur le rouleau de printemps à la saucisse de porc grillé vêt. La saucisse dodue au goût riche se conjugue parfaitement avec les légumes dont le rouleau est rempli pour ainsi satisfaire notre appétit. J’ai accom-

Haru possède un goût très développé et une habileté sans égale dans la cuisine, mais en raison de son caractère bouillant, son mari lui demande le divorce après une année de vie commune. Un jour, Dennai Funaki, le chef samouraï de Kaga, lui demande d’épouser Yasunobu, son fils héritier. Servant le Seigneur de Kaga non pas avec l’épée, mais avec le couteau de cuisine, la famille Funaki est connue comme « Samouraï de la Cuisine » depuis plusieurs générations. Toutefois, la maladresse de Yasunobu place la réputation des Funaki en péril. Pour sauver sa nouvelle famille et son statut de « Samouraï de la Cuisine », Haru décide d’enseigner à son nouveau mari l’art raffiné de la cuisine de Kaga à sa façon. Ce récit s’inspire d’une histoire réelle. Haru has an excellent sense of taste and unsurpassed skill in the kitchen, but her impetuous character leads to her husband asking for a divorce after only a year of marriage. One day, she is approached by Dennai Funaki, a samurai chef from Kaga, to marry his son and heir, Yasunobu. Serving the Lord of Kaga not with the sword, but with the kitchen knife, the Funaki family has been known as “Kitchen Samurai” for generations. However, Yasunobu’s lack of culinary skills has placed the Funaki name in peril. To save her new family and its status as “Kitchen Samurai”, Haru decides to teach her new husband the refined art of Kaga cuisine from her point of view. Inspired by a true story. 主君の食膳を調える“包丁侍”として、江戸時代に加賀料理の基礎を 築いた舟木伝内。その息子に嫁いだ女性の視点から加賀藩の内幕 を描いた人情劇。舟木家のレシピ集「料理無言抄」から再現した料 理を散りばめ、当時の武家の台所事情を映像化した。 奥女中の春（上戸彩）は料理上手だが気が強く、1年で離縁された 身。だが加賀藩の包丁侍・伝内（西田敏行）に望まれ、跡取り息子の 安信（高良健吾） と再婚すると、料理が苦手な安信を鍛え出す。
