Chris Freer
Chris Freer is a diploma in hypnotherapy NLP Practitioner Transformation therapist. He has lived with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis for 20 years. In the beginning it was a struggle, however I trusted in the drugs prescribed for me to control and slow the progression of this condition, unfortunately they did not work. 6 years after my diagnosis I received the news I was secondary progressive and there were no drugs available to halt the progress. That’s when I discovered a lifestyle approach and took back control over my health.

Alessandro Ferullo
Currently working in Recruitment and as a Qigong teacher. An adventurous childhood - an Italian boy, having lived in multiple countries including Indonesia where I was born, Italy (Sardinia), Tanzania, Yugoslavia, Turkey & the UK all by the age of 9, when I came to study in the UK. I had always had an interest in different health modalities and have a therapeutic massage degree. One weekend in 1988, I attended a weekend that opened my eyes and senses to Energy work when for the first time, I sensed an energy beyond my own between my hands as Qigong was introduced into my life. I’ve been practicing this 4,000 year old Art ever since, an ever deepening energy practice helping us take more control of our health and wellbeing which has been invaluable to share with others particularly in these past 2-3 most challenging years we have all been through.

Benn Abdy Collins
We have always lived in uncertain times. The current ones are perhaps more challenging than we are used to. But we have choices. Choices built on our ability to hear what we need, said to ourselves, by ourselves with love, with honesty, with truth that is true to us as individuals. Nothing more. In observing both himself and the world, Benn sees uncertainty playing out as “truth” as many seek control following their heads, not their hearts or inner wisdom. In the process hope and light die, and fear abounds. With love and integrity, we can bring change and reverse these destructive trends, and together craft a future we both wish to treasure, to live, and provide as a legacy for the generations and planet for humans of the future. Benn’s work is as one who listens and seeks solutions for individuals is built on the above.

Key Collaborator: Andrew Miller
Multiple author and international speaker. A qualified insolvency practitioner, Andrew spent 16 years in the Restructuring department of the global accountancy firm, KPMG, as well as being seconded to Barclays Bank’s insolvency unit. Taking on leadership roles highlighted to Andrew a passion and flair for working with individuals and the issues that affect them at a personal level. Through working with company owners who were in the process of losing everything, he became acutely aware of the emotional connection that exists between a business and its owner, something that is not always recognised or appreciated. Andrew believes that ‘you’, ‘your environment’ and the interaction between the two should be looked at as a whole, rather than in isolation. Andrew works with business owners and their team to get all three areas right – which then allows you to truly enjoy what you do on a day to day basis. Andrew has worked for himself for over 10 years in which time he has written eight books, won numerous awards and was also invited to be a policy advisor to the government around business failure.

Editorial Gill Tiney
Tomorrow’s World As I write this editorial, I am in fear that history is repeating itself. We appear to have learned nothing from the horrors of our past and as I write we are still suffering from the fall out of the pandemic, economies are suffering inflation, distribution channels are still blocked, and global diplomacy appears to be at a stalemate with blame being tossed around and sanctions threatened as a feeble attempt to make others back down. #tipoftheiceberg We have been here before. Technology is supplying us with exponential solutions to the problems we didn’t know we had, and social media is fuelling the fire to insist that mistakes are admonished by resignation. Plus, borders are being redrawn over something no one can ever, or should ever own. Where has forgiveness gone? What’s happened to compassion? May I offer you this publication to bring you some hope in this fraught and volatile world we find ourselves. We are looking at what Tomorrow’s World might be like and how we can achieve it. Each member of our community at Collaboration Global who’s contributed has looked at what it means to them and has given us powerful insights into how we can make sense of the absurdity of life. I am encouraged by Gina Gardiner who always identifies the power we all have within us to take some action. Understanding we can all be radically responsible is a timely wake up call. Something we always commit to in our community is to understand ourselves and what drives us so we may support another. I am inspired by Chris Freer who tells his story of reaching rock bottom before hope came to rescue him. We all need to live in hope, that is the only way a better world can arrive. Louise Richardson goes all science on us, facts that are hard to ignore. Her view on life is tenacious 6

and you can see how she spreads this into her wonderful work at the charity where she is CEO. We need to ‘be more Louise’ and see our world improve before our eyes. Looking back 4,000 years for wisdom helps me to feel steady in these turbulent times as Alessandro Ferullo shares his solutions and inspirations for reaching peace and identifies the need for connection to stay in harmony. Benn Abdy-Collins takes a global view and reminds us that the planet will survive whatever we throw at it – Chernobyl being a case in point, but we, as a species won’t. One of the quotes he uses that resonated with me is: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Howard Thurman I add my voice to the choir of future thinkers as I consider a world organised by societies run by caring citizens who are not committed to the status quo simply because it works for them. We want a world that works for everyone, and that time has come. Collaboration is a solution to making that happen. Please connect with us and share your thoughts on how you see Tomorrow’s World evolving and if you too remember the 1970s TV program like some of our contributors - perhaps it is time to resurrect it.

WHAT SORT OF TOMORROW? YOUR CHOICE – YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
8
www.CollaborationGlobal.org
I remember vividly being asked to write an essay as a primary school child, outlining how life would be in fifty years. The imagination of my ten-year-old self has been surpassed by the many technological and scientific advances which have revolutionised our lives. The impact of these changes has been like the curate’s egg – good and bad in part. None of us has a Crystal ball but it doesn’t take Mystic Meg to tell us that the Human Race and the planet is currently at a crossroads. If we and the planet are to thrive, we need to take a long hard look at how we operate as individuals, as businesses and as society as a whole. It is time for each of us to take responsibility for ensuring that the choices we make moment by moment start to redress the problems which threaten our wellbeing and that of the environment. It is common for people to believe that it is up to the politicians and huge conglomerates to look for and implement the solutions, to think that as an individual they are too small to make a real difference. It is that thinking, in my opinion, has created and perpetuated the problems which face
us all. Each of us has the power and duty to take radical responsibility for our choices moment by moment. Everything we do is a choice, and every choice has consequences. It is in those seemingly small and inconsequential decisions moment by moment that our future health and wellbeing, the success of our businesses and the survival of our planet depends. If you are reading this the likelihood is that you are an entrepreneur or leader. It means you are uniquely placed to make a qualitative difference to others. Imagine you are at the end of your life, what would you like to be remembered for? What impact will you have had on shaping the world from the day you read this article? When we talk about legacy many people think only of the inheritance that they will leave their children or a favourite charity. I believe that is a very narrow view of legacy and urge you to consider legacy very differently. There is a living legacy in every thought we have, in each action we take and word we speak,

how and when it takes place or whether it happens at all. Your living legacy can be a positive, neutral or a negative one. I want a world where the incredible beauty of the natural world is maintained, and the amazing diversity of living things is protected.
I may not be able to stop global warming, or the atrocities reported in the news all by myself but what I can do is to make choices that mean I live my life in a way which is both kind and compassionate to others and to the environment. Some things come naturally – being kind and compassionate to others is the easy bit. I’ve learned over the years to be kinder to myself but there are times when I slip up. Being kind to the environment is an ongoing challenge. I live in an area where recycling is far more limited than I’d like. I like to travel but recognise that, by doing so comes at a cost to the environment. I’ve changed my diet and I’m using more environmentally friendly products but recognise that there is much more that I can do.
I want a world where people collaborate effectively to create sustainable solutions to the challenges we face currently and to create future developments which will support the health, prosperity, and

There is a growing recognition that businesses that have a strong sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive difference in the world succeed. This approach is gaining momentum as more and more of the general population are becoming aware of the negative impact that many businesses are having on people and the environment. They are recognising the power of their custom and are making conscious purchasing choices based on the company involved, not only those giving them a high quality product or service but also one which supports the health and well-being of others and of the planet. The parlous state of the planet we call home is becoming more and more evident and will have an even greater impact on people’s decisions moving forward. Businesses have such a vital role to play in making the changes which will support the planet’s health for future generations. There is no time for delay – business leaders must take action. Collaboration is a vital component in creating a

brighter tomorrow. Individually we can achieve more than we think but the real power lies in effective collaboration. For collaboration to work well it must be based on mutual respect and a shared goal. It is, I believe, the greatest tool we have to finding a positive way forward – to make the world a better place. We are so much stronger if we act in harmony with others to achieve a common goal – it is when the collective skills, understanding, experience, expertise, enthusiasms, and creativity of true collaboration are released that magic happens. It is why belonging to a group such as Collaboration Global is so powerful. Shared values, the desire to make the world a better place whilst running a successful business underpin the fabric of this group. What sort of tomorrow do you want? Are you ready to lead the way? Are you ready to collaborate? The choice is yours!

MY HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR HEALTH CARE.

I woke up on a warm beautiful late summer morning the sky was bright blue, and I could hear the birds singing their hearts out. As I gazed out of the window, I felt quite detached and alone, there was no reason to life anymore. Today was the day I would end this misery; it was the perfect day to kill myself!
The day that I decided to end my life had a profound effect on me. I intended to throw myself under a large lorry, but as I locked eyes with the driver – I hesitated as I felt compassion for him and wondered what my action would do to him. That moment’s hesitation saved my life as I bounced off the side of the vehicle and was thrown backwards onto the verge. This Nearly 20 years ago I was diagnosed with caused a change in my thinking. Was this my Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an incurable auto new beginning? immune condition that affects the nervous system. This completely changed my life. As Following the incomplete attempt to take my I look back on my journey, there have been life, but not because of, the neurologist booked dramatic times, many tears and scrapes, and my second enhanced MRI scan. “My hope for tomorrow’s world is that lifestyle and how it plays a role in creating good or bad health will become more mainstream within our health services” I started to study, researching about my condition. Things were looking up! Additionally, I was also fascinated about how much power our brain has and the influence our thoughts have over our wellbeing. One of the charities I attended called SWANS (Sometimes We All Need Support) introduced me to a mindset practitioner and reiki master who started to treat me. It was in one of our deep sessions, I said to her “it’s great what you are doing but we have to accept the damage to my nervous system cannot be repaired.” She replied, “so why does it work sometimes?” A question I put to the neurologist, whose response was “I have no idea why.” That simple question and response opened my mind to new possibilities. I began to believe I could take control. I alone was master of my own fate. Well, not totally alone as I had relocated, moved in with my new lady. I could not believe my luck! Near where we live is a Victorian promenade park on the Blackwater estuary. On a trip out in my wheelchair to the park, I remember looking out over the Blackwater admiring the view. I could feel the sun on my face as my thoughts started to drift while watching how the people were walking. Were my walking days really over? A little voice in my head said, “if you don’t start using those legs you are going to lose them forever” and that was the motivation I needed to encourage myself. It suddenly made sense to me - we are what we eat and my diet had to change. In fact, there were many lifestyle choices that had become habitual. I needed a complete rethink! MS and other auto immune conditions are not something we catch. It is my belief that we create these conditions because of the lifestyle we choose. 16
I am a work in progress, and I will live with MS for the rest of my life. However, I refuse to give in and now think of MS as that best mate who you may not see for many years. Yet, when you do something wrong, they will ring you up and remind you that they are still there with symptoms returning when I stray from my new lifestyle approach! I am not suggesting that you should not follow the advice of your medical professional. Any changes you make should be discussed with them first. What I am saying is that you have more control over your health than you think. Believe in yourself and the power of your brain. Your body and your brain can build new pathways, and you can create healthy habits that will be to your benefit. Change is not easy and can at times be quite challenging but nevertheless the results are worth it! Little by little I have regained things I thought were lost forever. My wheelchair is parked in the garage and only comes out when necessary. I now find myself attracting some amazing people and organisations, one in particular being Collaboration Global, which I am proud to be a member of the community, a group of forward-thinking game changers. My hope for tomorrow’s world is that lifestyle and how it plays a role in creating good or bad health will become more mainstream within our health services. Good health is not a right, we must work at it and examine the choices we make. Deep down, I know I created MS within my body. However, I have chosen to take back my power. We all have the ability to change! The choices we make create our reality, and I am living proof!

BUILDING A SCAFFOLD OF HOPE FOR TOMORROW.
18
www.CollaborationGlobal.org
I was asked to write something about tomorrow’s world – when I feel I’m a bit stuck I think about change, but I also think about movement. In Cox and Forshaw’s book describing E=mc2, which is Einstein’s theory of space and relativity, they try and explain to people, like me, (non-physicist or scientific in any way) how modern physicists think about the nature of space and time. I don’t want you to think that I am in any way an expert in this matter, (excuse the pun), but the overarching aim is to state that space and time are relative, and energy is interchangeable. This is a great book to read with a lot of head-scratching and re-reading, but its view is that the world has different perspectives, and we sometimes need to see other people’s views on how they see it. Do I understand Einstein’s theory with any more clarity? Maybe not. But what it allowed me to remember is that perspective is individual, and energy can be universal, this is our interconnectedness without the disguise of conditions. We have 37.2 trillion (give or take) cells in our human body, we are a complex organism. Each cell has their structure and function, living, dying, and regenerating, so I guess, even if we
think we can stand still, not move, remain static – the news is (sorry if this is not what you want to hear) physically we can’t, even if we want to. We have been moving forward since we lived in the seas, from when we were hunter-gathers, to farming fields, to living in houses, moving to live and work in modern communities. What we should be aware of, is that we are in constant movement, a constant state of change, and unless we have released the power of back to the future and designed a time travel car, we are rolling forward. Sometimes, when running a business or being in charge, we can feel stuck. I would warmly invite you to take another look, when you last looked at a problem, the situation, a lot of the cells that saw that problem don’t even exist anymore. We must remember the ability to grow and develop is to be human, even though we may not feel it or realise it, it’s happening. Every cell has a small space, and this is multiplied by 37.2 trillion, so if you are feeling trapped or stuck remember that there is all this space for us to use to our advantage, we can imagine this space as our superpower to breathe into, to take solace in, this can be your happy place x 37.2 trillion.

“The old way of doing business
no longer fits the purpose of the world we live in. ”
As CEO of Absafe I am proud to be part of a unique safety education charity dedicated to saving lives and reducing harm by instilling a positive safety culture in our communities and inspiring a passion for safety through education and engagement. Our vision is for a safer future; free from life-changing unintentional injury and harm with protective communities, inspired by a passion for safety, so that no one must learn by accident. Protecting our future generations we provide health, safety, and well-being education and risk awareness. Protecting people and places from harm, helping communities thrive by building a strong positive safety culture, and giving individuals the confidence, skills, and attitudes to create a safer future. We deliver a range of unique projects and interactive training programs designed to inform, instruct, and engage to reduce vulnerability to unintentional injury and harm, and support positive decisionmaking concerning harmful behaviour. We help individuals to see another’s perspective, to get unstuck from a challenging destructive behaviour. Moving into the world of tomorrow Absafe has decided to design a new brand for our community charity. We collaborated with many members of our community, from young people to older members, volunteers and professionals, police officers to young people in secure units. Moving into 2022 we wanted to ensure we were able to encapsulate the opinion of as many people as we could. During this process we had to be brave and listen to feedback, have an honest heart, and keep the focus on the outcome for the charity, which was building a better representative brand for 20
Absafe. Generally, we can spend a lot of our time on the self-talk which can make use of our precious energy. We want to talk to young people about their potential, we don’t talk to our community enough about this, at Absafe we are inviting, warm and accepting of where everyone sits on the scale of self-potential realisation and offer a safe place to allow kids to show they can be seen and accepted.
“…Broken Crayons can still colour…” - Fab Five, Netflix Change can be terrifying as we don’t know what is on the other side. Moving into the world of tomorrow, we as a community need to have insight, wisdom, and feeling interconnectedness. We need to have experiential insights with healthy self-inquiry, to take some decisions from our heads to our heart. For Absafe it was beginning to understand that we can run a charity in a way that provides service for our community but also a safe space for everyone who visits – if we feel safe, we can learn and develop in ways that we may have hidden before, and it allows us to share our talents and be more accepting of others. It enables us to feel grounded and invites mindfulness to our daily lives, which can improve our working lives. If we could do that for every single person, imagine the positive impact that will have on our personal lives, and the improvements that could be made in our communities.
“… It takes a brave step to understand that we need critical development to see the uniqueness in others and ourselves…” - Robert Jagers
www.CollaborationGlobal.org
Imagination and thought are underrated, we all need to hear that we are capable and that the feelings that we have are of a temporary nature, like waves approaching a shoreline. This is more important now than ever for our young people, the purpose and mission for Absafe have become more vital, and with this is the need for us to concentrate our efforts on how we do this more efficiently and effectively. How do we ride the surfboard of change to ensure the longevity of the charity and continue to be relevant nationally and internationally? We are passionate about the power of educating in a participative and engaging environment, using fun to create lasting change in children’s lives and in the communities in which they live. We believe in the transformative impact that positive safety culture can have on the health and prosperity of future generations. It’s all about forward momentum, the inner and outer movement of our 37.2 million cells. For us it’s about how we continue to move forward with our new brand, in a world of financial uncertainty.
you understand your purpose. Sometimes we can move towards conditions that, like gravity, pull us back to the orbit of negative comfort. We have negative behaviours that can ground us somewhere we don’t want to be and to someone, we don’t even recognise. Remember we can slowly build a scaffold of hope and support, bit by bit to move into the world of tomorrow. We need to understand our systems of flow, whether in business, in relationships, or during our personal development. When we understand our ethics of belonging, we can develop natural cycles of our true nature, taking down the scaffolding when we are ready to reveal the true you, the true nature of yourself.
We want to build a future thinking, collaborative culture, where we construct positivity for all who come and visit here, to learn to feel safe and to feel accepted, not dependant on age, background, or lived experience. To build value systems through the way we deliver our “… I don’t want to just revolve. I want to evolve…” education but also systems in the way that the charity runs, a common alignment of human -Matthew McConaughey sameness and dignity. We are all greater than the narrative we have been given and that you give yourselves, due And what about our new logo? Well, I’m glad to the ever-changing makeup of our human you asked, it now contains the wording ‘Safety bodies. I used to watch “Tomorrow’s World” on TV with excitement during my school days, a show some of you may remember (it ran from 1965 to 2003). I always imagined that world. A world filled with so many inventions and technological advances that brought us so far into the future…Yet, with things moving and changing so quickly these days, there no longer seems to be an appetite for such a show. As we see people are having more and more trouble coping with (what is) today’s world… Creating and living in the Present It is true that we are creating tomorrow’s world today, in every moment of the present. Knowing this, I believe is the key to understanding and solving many of the challenging issues relating to how we can protect and live on this wonderful planet in a peaceful, collaborative, and sustainable way. Why wait for tomorrow’s world? Some challenges like the environment, global warming, inequalities in society, pandemics, may at times seem insurmountable and like many people, I often have my doubts too. Fear is perhaps one of the biggest obstacles we face, often created by the media to become one of the reasons so many people (including so many in the younger generations) to feel lost, with little or no hope in the future. Humankind has been through so many crises, yet I believe that with inspired leadership, collaboration, and by keeping hope alive and

nurtured, we are creating a better world. Right now many of us are busy doing this and making a difference. Universal and Natural laws I’ve been studying Qigong (from which Tai Chi originated), an ancient 4,000-year-old art for many years. The centre of study is of the mysterious energy called Qi (pronounced Chee), an animating, lively natural energy that drives all activity, helps nature thrive, that keeps us alive and healthy, and finding balance. When Qi is out of balance in us as humans, we tend to get ill, stressed and over time, develop more serious or chronic health problems. A very inspiring book is the Tao Te Ching of 81 short and inspiring chapters was written by Lao Tzu over 2,500 years ago explains many ways to live healthy, balanced lives in tune with nature and the Universe. One of my favourites advises us (in subtle ways) to live in harmony with nature or natural laws: Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu - chapter 29 Do you think you can take over the universe and improve it? I do not believe it can be done. The universe is sacred. You cannot improve it.

“By connecting with ourselves more deeply and collaborating with others we are building a more sustainable and caring world together .”
If you try to change it, you will ruin it. If you try to hold it, you will lose it. So sometimes things are ahead and sometimes they are behind; Sometimes breathing is hard, sometimes it comes easily; Sometimes there is strength and sometimes weakness; Sometimes one is up and sometimes down. Therefore the sage avoids extremes, excesses, and complacency.
(translation by Gia-fu Feng and Jane English) Comment: As humans we will encounter many problems if we try to control our environment or disrespect it. So much in this book seems written for modern times and I turn to it most days for inspiration, hope and understanding. Connection Community and Collaboration As we create tomorrow’s world today, connection, community and collaboration are all needed more than ever. I love this definition of connection…
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” - Brené Brown Connection is what helps us thrive as humans and keeps us healthy, joyful and vibrant. It brings us more hope, energy, inspiration, and growth. So many of us have been separated from each other
in the past two years or so which has created many challenges both with physical and mental health among all age groups. Great connection will naturally lead to more collaboration whether in the community we are surrounded by, or perhaps from networking with other inspiring people. Together, connected, we can and do make a difference. I have loved being part of the Collaboration Global community where there is so much support, inspiration and collaboration between members from such a wide range of different walks of life. Which just shows that despite our propensity in the world to compete with and compare ourselves to others, our most basic urge is always to connect. Human beings, science has proven, are like ants and are born desperate to play as a team. Connection to Myself and Others When I started my Qigong energy practice over 30 years ago, the day I met my teacher, I sensed this mysterious, subtle energy between my hands for the first time. This energy/Qi flows through us keeping us alive and well, helps nature thrive and brings balance and harmony into the world. By learning to connect with myself on a deeper energetic level this practice has been invaluable in helping me navigate some of the more difficult times in my life. Especially more recently. Qigong practice has also helped others improve their physical and mental health by connecting themselves to this subtle Universal energy that’s always available to us. Personally, I’m grateful to have been able to connect with people online all over the world during the pandemic. What once seemed such an unlikely technology in Tomorrow’s World is right here today, serving us all beautifully.

Connection to Nature Spending more time in (local) nature has been increasingly possible (and necessary) for many people during these past two years as travel and mixing with others has been more limited. Sensing our connection to nature, feeling grounded and nourishing ourselves was something easily overlooked with the fast-paced lives we increasingly became accustomed to. The Japanese developed the practice of “Forest bathing” which broadly means taking in, in all of one’s senses, the forest atmosphere. Not simply a walk in the woods, it is the conscious and contemplative practice of being immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest during the 1980s as a physiological and psychological exercise called shinrin-yoku or “taking in the forest atmosphere”. The exercise purpose is twofold: to offer an eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout and to inspire residents to reconnect with and
26
protect the country’s forests. This is in tune with the latest evidence from quantum physics offers the possibility that all of life lives in a dynamic relationship of co-operation. The Japanese quickly embraced this form of ecotherapy and in the 1990s, researchers began studying the physiological benefits of forest bathing, providing the science to support what we innately know: time spent immersed in nature is good for us. The concept at the heart of the practice is not new. Many cultures have long recognized the importance of the natural world to human health. There is a magic to appreciating and creating a better world today. By connecting with ourselves more deeply and collaborating with others we are building a more sustainable and caring world together. With the world in such a state of upheaval in the past two years or so, there seems to be a sense of urgency for us all to live with greater awareness, social conscience and responsibility for each other

and the environment. So I ask myself each day: How can I contribute to creating a better, healthier kinder world? Who and/or with which groups can I collaborate with as part of my bigger vision? How can I show up with clarity, courage, and positive energy so I can play my part in creating tomorrow’s world today? Now is the time for us to co-create, collaborate more, build a stronger sense of community, and keep hope alive for all generations, particularly the younger ones who will inherit our legacies. And so create Tomorrow’s World today with the active choice of the most powerful and positive things we can do for both ourselves and the world around us. One of which is to “Always keep a smile in your Heart.”

“The choice to be different is often unpopular as it challenges the Status Quo.”
Watching the Tomorrow’s World on the BBC each Wednesday night was our family tradition. I was glued to the screen to witness the new and clever inventions built to fulfil [perceived] necessity through ingenuity. Whether the live science demonstrations worked or not it provided good TV entertainment. Today inventors and inventions continue to abound. The exponential leaps and bounds of resources, computer-modelling, artificial intelligence, design, and manufacture, underpin much of this drive, to develop the next great product. The one that supposedly everyone desires, or thinks they need. Where, if one is ‘good’ then two or more of said item, is much [much] better. This current personal wealth and power paradigm believes that having stuff and fulfilling personal gratification is good, while attaining even more is seen as a worthy goal. That wealth accumulation is seen as the ‘reason’ of envisioning a future. Such a mindset is about competition and fulfilling personal desire above all else to combatively create [perceived] exclusivity, and that “stuff” brings class, elegance, and happiness, because one has X, Y, Z. There are many other paradigms available. These are thinly disguised as more stuff/more power is good. Others appear at least to have another integrity all together. Born a curious Baby Boomer, I’ve witnessed a broad diversity of views. The ending of the British Empire, and the Cold War; the 60s, 70s, 80s and all; the rapid rise of materialism and goods availability as wealth symbols, juxtaposed to strikes, poverty, and civil unrest. Plus, global warming concerns, through poor planetary resource management (money first) and a massive surge in population growth. Add to this the constant belief that if we market our messages just right, we’ll find the right
30
way out of the chaos, to leave a planet worthy of future generations. All this because they said what we’re doing is right, and so there is no poison chalice to pass on... That’s the background. *** Native Americans have proven pithy, profound social commentators; much of their wisdom holds as true today as when first shared centuries ago, when they observed the connections between humans and planet - nature management. That, one relates to the other, and the importance of integrity and relationships are to be in collaboration. Without which, ecosystems collapse, and resources vanish. The Cree Indian philosophy points to such: “When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money.” Yet do we realise this? Other non-Western or aboriginal cultures also share ecological awareness as a core element to culture and tradition. That, and the need to work collaboratively to bring change both locally – in the self and community first, are key to changes in the greater world. I’ve considered the issues of groupdetermination and dynamics and social awareness and cooperation for decades, in my own way. Where there’s a genuine desire and intention to make a difference to what is, then change appears to hold a chance in its fingers. If it is but words, a new lip service; a new PR campaign, with no intent for true readjustment, then nothing is really achieved beyond yet more rah, rah! noise. Going forwards, I witness people continuing to keep on keeping on with telling each other how things should be done according to this view or that with messages that contain no real change in their foundations, just more of the same. They focus on the external, no rigorous actual choice to

be different from what patently doesn’t work: the, ‘I’m in it for me’ approach that destroys resources, habitats, people, - life. Leaving our societies reeling between yet more calamities, and seemingly surprised by this lack of conscientious underpinning structure of morals, values, and fibre upon which change can be brought about.
so called, civilisations have grown and failed to be reclaimed by natural forces. It is only humans that think we are important. If we behave with the wisdom we claim to have and work [collaborate] WITH nature, then we can achieve much. Build a future, a tomorrow of wealth, abundance and possibility. Our choice. But where do we start?
The choice to be different is often unpopular as it challenges the Status Quo, and the egos of those invested in the stories they tell to keep up their power and appearances. Yet, without the fundamental changes we require to save our planet for the future, there will be no future for humans or the planet. The nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl is a fascinating case in point. Severe human error destroyed and laid waste to a massive amount of nature. Nature however, in the absence of humans, and in the presence of impossible radiation levels has never thrived better in the region with the return of rare species, healthy flora and fauna. Adaptation with no obvious adverse results.
*** So where do we need to face to bring about a sustainable change in our world, to make it fit for [purpose] tomorrow? We live in a world focussed on the accumulating and or manipulating of the external, rather than any observation of the inner workings of ourselves, and therefore of our society and the direction(s) it faces, we need pithy comments from observers who see “other” than the norm. Here, I believe their words are useful to remind us that all we experience, and therefore what we both make of the world, and remaking the world starts with us, as the individuals we are.
Nature survived Chernobyl; humans have not. Nature always survives, just look at how many,

desire. Success grows from the inside out. That’s why you’ll never be fulfilled by merely acquiring the tokens of success. These quotes resonated with me and I felt were worth sharing:
There is a life you want to live. To experience that life, become the person who will live it. If the circumstances of your life are not yet what you desire, there is a reason. It is because you have not yet become the person you desire to become. The outer circumstances of your life will change for the better precisely to the extent that you change for the better inside. Become the person who can live your dream, and that dream will become real. You cannot directly control everything in the world around you, but there is no need for that anyway. By controlling your own thoughts, feelings and actions, you can bring about anything you truly

Become successful on the inside, to the point where the superficial tokens of success do not matter. And you will surely have more than you could ever desire. – Ralph Marston Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. – Howard Thurman The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have

little to do with success as we have defined it. – David W. Orr Author Glennon Doyle took her life and COMPLETELY re-wrote all the scripts that drove her self-distraction and self-destruction. In doing so, she challenged the roles she as a woman, a mother, a wife, a person in society and the expectations each imposed on her. She came up with her own brutally honest way through, that she determined for herself. First. Her choice was simple: build a robust, deep, honest, and truth-filled relationship of understanding by asking herself what her needs and responses to any situation she faced were. Then follow what she found was the truth for her at that time. Glennon’s [simplified] routine was to face each uncertainty by sinking her awareness deep inside to find the knowing that knew, and then following whatever direction it nudged her towards. In doing such, she repaired her life, her sanity and re-built from the very foundations upwards utilising what she had all along; herself. The wisdom she already held within and when ready, was just requiring the
chance to express. To conclude: Often, we as individuals, organisations, communities and cultures, know there are other or better solutions, if we deign to gather our still small voices beneath the noise of scripts that we use to determine what is truth, or right (according to an agenda or two). But we don’t. At the peril of our planet, and the future of humanity. To break this cycle of abusing ourselves as a species, and the species that support our world, we can choose to collaborate. Together, when we as individuals tap into our innate wisdom, and share the outcomes, we can, will, and do have influence on the world of tomorrow. For we will be the poets and leaders from within, that the world truly requires. The truth can be found, not in the lies of the scripts and memos of humans seeking power, it lies in the wisdom within the essence that truly makes us who we are. We just need to be honest about this and the world will BE different. Full stop.

THE FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS.

When I was young there was a TV programme called Tomorrow’s World. We used to be amazed at what was potentially coming to our homes in the next generation. We were introduced to the prototypes and told by the time the next generation were 18 (10 years in my case) we would be able to make a telephone call without the use of wires connecting us. It felt like science-fiction, and I was riveted. I loved to imagine what life would be like then and how many new gadgets would make life easier. The implications and impacts seemed a lifetime away. Fast forward 50 years and the speed of change is so fast many are railing against it and hankering for a more peaceful, less busy time. It would appear the more we know, the more we obtain to make our lives easier, the more we want and the less happy we become. As an example, many things that have been invented to make our life easier and more convenient, have also added to the obesity crisis. We are missing the beauty in our lives because we are too scared to miss something happening across the world.
So how do we keep up with this pace? Is it to be welcomed and embraced – TikTok anyone? Or shunned as simply one thing too many. How do we keep a balance? That is only one consideration from an individual’s perspective. What about the bigger global picture? A few years ago, I read a book by Lynda Gratton (Professor of Management Practice at London Business School) called The Shift in which she identified that in the next 10 years (around about now) we would be experiencing a pandemic of loneliness. Very perceptive considering she knew nothing of Covid at that time. She predicted that we would mostly be working from home and our interactions with each other would be minimised, thus causing a strain on our mental health and potential and probable depression because of our isolation. Add to that, scientists utilising AI (Artificial Intelligence) to build robots that can give our elderly relatives, isolated due to Covid, a hug and we can see that physical touch is not apparently seen as a prescription for good health. As a substitute for our love, robots will never make the grade. It would appear that Lynda’s prediction is coming true, much faster

than we could ever have anticipated. Are YOU responsible for how our world evolves? If you have watched Russel T. Davis’ TV drama Years and Years, you will have seen the incredible speech by actress Ann Reid as the matriarch of the family. In it she lays the blame for the changing world firmly at the feet of everyone present. It was their fault that robots replaced people at such a rapid rate, and no one did anything about it. However, if you choose to surround yourself with positive, open minded, proactive people and you become empowered, inspired, confident and happy. There is much in our world to bring us happiness. So, feed yourself, physically and emotionally good ‘food’ and you will be well to tackle this speed of change. Feed yourself a constant supply of negative ‘food’ and your mental and physical health will suffer.
We are ALL responsible for how our world Not always…. But in my experience that seems evolves. to be the way. We can look at the changes being made as negative or positive, it is how we choose to view our world. From a negative perspective we ask, how can we be kept safe, how can we survive if the powers that be, choose to devastate our planet?
Let’s look on the bright side! Just because technology is moving fast, that doesn’t mean it is always going to be a problem. For example, advances in medicine have been astonishing, less people die of cancer than ever before. We have solutions to generate masses of food, there is enough to go around, plastic can be repurposed, and we know how to clean the oceans and of course we know how to generate free energy.
Or we can see our world from a positive perspective – how much has been gained from science, new technologies and global observations? Ultimately, we have to look at how we feed ourselves – both mind and body.
