About @louaparis Sincerely, a cheap but instatiable traveller: for the people who made it possible
Les incontournables VISITING PARIS IN TWO DAYS IS POSSIBLE
Here is how: You should know this: Paris is a huge city. There are uncountable secret corners that will mesmerize you at first sight, they will make you fall in love with it as it does with every single person that visits it. Do you only have one weekend? Let me walk you through the essentials, and if you have some extra days, you can spend them lingering the streets and discovering your own magic corners.
Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too.
Lou around the world, Paris | 01
THE ULTIMATE PARIS GUIDE 18
The esssentials: You’ve probably heard about most of them: Montmartre, Tour Eiffel, Sacre Coeur, Musée du Louvre, Champs Elysées… Are all of them worth visiting? Absolutely yes, but Paris is a big city and there are many other places that you have to see.
I’ve spent five months exploring the city, and I'm ready to share with all of you my list of “les incontournables”, as French people name “the essentials”. I created a map where you can find an itinerary of two or three days to visit every single place. If you have the energy, you could walk everywhere. I personally recommend the bike but the metro is also a good option. Anyhow, if you prefer to make your own itinerary, in this document you will also find the list of places from my top favorites to my least favourites. Each person explores Paris in their own way, but all of us fall for it the same way. Whether you have a free weekend or you are already living in Paris, I encourage you to do this trip and follow this list.
And last but not least, a small note about Lou Around the World: this is a free space open to everyone. Did you like the article? Do you find something missing? Do you have any suggestions? Feel free to comment, share your thoughts, make suggestions, share your experience or recommend new places.
Sincerely, A cheap but insatiable traveller.
Itinerary
DAY 1:
2 DAYS VS 3 DAYS GUIDE
What will you find: This is a 2 day itinerary with extra activities for people with little time and a loads of energy. Another option is staying an extra day to be able to visit everything in a more relaxed way. In every page you will find a link that will lead you to a Google Maps map, with all the places marked with numbers and a small personal comment in each of them. Make sure to read everything so you don't miss a single thing.
DAY 2:
DAY 3: OPTIONAL
Lou around the world, Paris | 03
but first, some advice TRANSPORT Metro: 1 ticket costs 1,9€ but you can get 10 for 17,90€. Pros: you don't get tired. Cons: you miss the views. Bike: with Velib' 1 trip is 1€ but you can get a 7 day pass for 15€. Pros: you see the whole city and it takes as long as the metro. Cons: you get more tired and is not a good idea for big groups. Foot: Pros: you see the whole city and you can stop everywhere. Cons: Paris is huge and it takes a long time to move around. It's tiring so I would recommend this option for people who have more time.
MAP I highly recommend reading the comments of every stop on the map. You will find useful information and some advice about where to go exaclty.
FOOD In the final list you will find recommendations about where to eat while doing the tour. Paris is expensive but crêpes are always affordable. You could also buy some food in the supermarket and have a picnic in one of the many parks of the city.
TOILETTES Paris is full of public toilettes. If you're struggling to find one you can search for "toilettes publiques" on Google Maps it will show you the ones around you.
SOUVENIRS The best places to buy them are: Trocadero, in front of the Eiffel Tour, and in Montmartre, Rue de Steinkerque. However, my favourite shop is Paul Art & Design.

DAY 1
Morning
1h
18'
21'
The first day starts at Parc des ButtesChaumont, one of the biggest in the city. It's full of up and downs, which offers beautiful views and different environments. If you go to the top of the parc, on the other side of the bridge, you will find a metallic sculpture from where you can see the area that sorrounds it, including Montmartre. It also has a lake with ducks and a small waterfall. 1. Parc des Buttes-Chaumont
After having left the park, the next step is looking for the canal and walking next to it till Jardin Villemin. This park is smaller but full of charm. It's the perfect place for a morning picnic before leaving for the next destination.
2Km
Next to it you can see the famous shops of Antoine et Lili, that form a colorful corner next to the canal.
The canal takes different names and it goes from Parc de la Vilette till Place de la Bastille. After a small walk Canal Saint Martin will disapear under the streets but it'll come up again after 2Km.
2. Jardin Villemin
0,7Km
And last but not least, the morning of Day one will end at Place de la Bastille, a very important hisitoric spot where there used to be a prision that was destroyed in the end of French Revolution. If you are hungry it's a good moment to find a place to have lunch because the sorrounding area is full of a big variety of bars and restaurants.

DAY 1
Afternoon I hope you rested enough because here it comes the most bustling part of the day: le Quartier Latin. This neighbourhood has a very important history, and its name comes from the time when its inhabitants were students, who used Latin language to communicate.
On your way to the famous Panthéon there are two mandary stops. The first one is a hidden historic space situated in Rue Monge: Les Arènes de Lutece.
Second, Place de la Contrescarpe. A square full of live and crowded of students having lunch (try the crêperie Kantina, with a 5€ menu).
But just before jumping into the historical district, you have to visit Jardin des Plantes. To get there from Place de la Bastille, you will have to follow the canal and cross the river. Just after crossing you will find this giant park, built in 1635 as a place for botanic investigation and where today you can find one of the oldest zoos in the world, La Ménagerie, and the Natural History Museum. However, something that you can't miss is Jardin Alpin, a fairy tale garden that holds more than 2.000 plants native to different parts of the globe. Leaving nature behind, walk some meters and you will immediately see a big and exotic building: La Grande Mosquée de Paris. The entrace is 2-3€ but is totally worth it. You'll be able to discover an incredible patio, an astonishing architecture and a true oasis.
And finally, the breathtaking Panthéon. If you can, go inside, visit the graves but also check the views from the top. Continue right and you will encounter Jardin du Luxembourg, probably the most famous garden in the city. You can visit the Stuatue of Liberty, but I personally think the one in Allée des Cygnes is much more beautiful.

DAY 1/ DAY 3
Extras / Morning
Read here for Day 1 Extras:
Read here for Day 3 Morning:
If you got here it's because you are a real insatiable explorer full of energy. After having spent the day going through nature and history, let's move on to the trully important: the city centre. Depending on where you are you can do this tour backwards. If you finished at Église Saint Sulpice you can start at Sainte Chapelle, which is in Île de la Cité. The entrance is not free for people older than 26 and is not possible to see it from the outside. If you are not willing to pay a 10€ ticket you can skip this stop.
Welcome to the last day of your tour! You're probably exhausted and also very in love with Paris, but still there are many things to see. Today will be a quite relaxed day, so don't hurry up and enjoy the tour. You can read the previous paragraph but if you prefer you can start at Centre Pompidou, a more centric spot. Then continue to Hôtel de Ville and cross the river to enter to Île de la Cité. Discover Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle and finish the morning tour in the front corner of the island. I recommend to grab something to eat and sit there to have lunch. It's a beautiful place where you can enjoy the river from.
However, you must stop at Notre Dame. It's not possible to enter due to the works but you can admire it from the exterior. It's important to know that this island is the place where Paris was born, its heart. Exit Île de la Cité to encounter Hôtel de Ville, the City Hall of Paris. Every district has its own civic centre and this is the one of the 1st arrondissement, the principal.
YOU CAN ALSO ENTER TO THE FREE LIBRARY, NO NEED OF BOOKING AFTER 3:30 PM
Today ends at Centre Pompidou, a colourful bulding that is in fact the largest museum for modern art in Europe. You can go inside and pay the ticket if you are older than 26, I have to say that it's worth it and the views from the top are amazing.

DAY 2
Morning If tomorrow was beautiful today is going to blow up your mind, because we are starting with Montmartre. Take a deep breath and go upstairs towards Sacre Coeur. It's a long way up but I promise you it's 100% worth it. You MUST visit the inside of the cathedral. Tha entrance is free, but if you want to go to the top you have to pay a 7€ ticket. Once having visited the icon of Montmartre my next advice is to get lost. Yes: to get lost in Montmartre. That's how I've discovered all its secrets. However, if you don't have much time, I recommend you following this itinerary: Place du Tertre, Place du Calvaire, Maison Rose, Vignes du Clos and Cabaret Alpin Agile. Every place has its own history, they will transport you to another "epoque", and if you visit it after the sunset, its magic will multiply. I don't want to bother you with every detail about these places, just choose what you want to know about and look for it at www.parisinfo.com
YOU CAN SKIP THE STAIRS BY TAKING THE CABLE CAR. THE PRICE IS 1,9€
1. Sacre Coeur
0,2Km
Continue your walk through the most beautiful street of Paris: rue de l'Aebreuvoir. Go down till Dalida's square, one of the most famous singers and actresses who used to live in the neighbourhood. From there you can admire the charming street with the Sacre Coeur in the end of it. From there take the stairs down and walk a couple of minutes till Villa Léandre, a very small street with beautiful English inspired houses. On the way to Mur des je t'aime, you will pass by Le Passe Muraille and Moulin de la Galette. You will finish the morning at the main street of the quartier, near place Pigalle and Moulin Rouge. Here I recommend you two places to have lunch: L'Artiste, that offers a 16€ menu and that is very French and authentic, and Bouillon Pigalle, very famous and touristic but it offers cheap and French food.

DAY 2
Afternoon For the afternoon we'll walk towards the centre of Paris. Starting with some incredible views from the top of Galeries Lafayette. There are many buildings but you should go to the one called Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. First take the stairs to the last floor from where you'll be able to admire the inside of the building. Next, go to the top from where you will be able to see the whole city, including the Opera Garnier. But for a better view of this bulding, go to the big square in front of it. You can go visit the inside: the price of the tour is around 7€.
A few meters from where you are, you can find le Palais Royal. It has a wonderful closed garden and benches with famous quotes written on them. It's not easy to find because is not possible to see it from the outside, you may need the help of a map! And finally, we go somewhere you were waiting for: Mussée du Louvre. The entrance is 17€ but even if you don't want to spend money going inside it is worth apreciating it from the outside. You will see the famous pyramids and. in front of them, jardin des Tuileries.
Leaving the views apart, we'll continue thourgh Les Passages, covered streets in between the buildings. On the inside, you will find shops, bookshops, cafés and restaurants. There are many passages so it's a good tour for rainy days, however, the most important ones are Passage Jouffroy and Passage des Panoramas.
On the entrance to the garden, you will be able to see Avenue des Champs Elysées, l'Arc de triomphe and La Défense on the background. Continue the path in the middle of the park till Place de la Concorde, de most important square of the city. and the second biggest in France.
After the passages, you can walk the Boulevard des Italiens, a big and wide street, till you find Galerie Vivienne. This place is incredibly beautiful and elegant.

DAY 2 / DAY 3
Extras / Afternoon If you got here it means you're already in love with Paris. However, best things last. Whether you are in the end of a very busy 2nd day or in the end of a more relaxed 3rd day, you'll finish this visit with very sweet views. Let's get started!
1h 10
28'
It doesn't matter where you start, La Seine goes through the whole city, but since we are going till Invalides I would recommend you to start near Place de la Concorde. Go downstairs in order to walk next to the water till Pont Alexandre III. Cross the bridge and admire the views because on the other side you'll find Invalides, the building where Napoleon was buried.
1. La Seine
1Km
Continue walking next to La Seine till you get to the long-awaited Eiffel Tower. Behind it you'll see a big field called Champs de Mars, but if you really want to appreciete it, I recommend you crossing the river and going till Trocadero, a place that offers amazing views of the tower.
If you still have some energy, go check the last viewpoint: l'Arc de Triomphe. This is by far my favourite place to watch the sunset, so if you're lucky to be on time buy a ticket and go watch it!
2. Invalides
1,7Km
TO GET TILL L'ARC YOU HAVE TO THROUGH A TUNEL AT THE END OF CHAMPS ELYSÉES, YOU CAN SEE IT FROM THE OUTSIDE WITHOUT A TICKET
3. Tour Eiffel
2,2Km
4. Arc du Triomphe

NEED MORE EXTRAS?
List of everything you have left Maybe you have many days left in Paris, maybe you live there and you want to explore every single corner. Whichever your case is, here I leave you a list of every place worth visiting. I've been in all of them and I can assure you they are as incredible as the ones you saw on the tour, but maybe not that important for a touristic visit.
Cimetière Père Lachaise
Bois de Vincennes
Cimitière Montparnasse
Parc de la Villette
Bois de Boulogne
Parc Monceau
La Coulée Verte
Cité du Figuier
Statue de la Liberté
La petite Ceinture
I don't have a map this time, because this is not a guide, this is a list that offers you the opportunity to explore the city in your own way. Just choose whatever destination you find intriging and go see it.
Did you skip something? During the tour you will have visited all the essentials. However, not all of them are listed on the map. There are many important places where you should have passed by, but in case you didn't pay attention enough, here I leave you the list of "essentials you may have missed". Champs Elysées: on the way to Arc de Triopmhe Point Alexandre III: on the way to Tour Eiffel Trocadero: in front of Tour Eiffel Shakespeare & Company: next to Sainte Chapelle Notre Damme: at Île de la Cité Pont Neuf: in front of Île de la Cité Place de Vosges: near Place de la Bastille Rue de Rivoli: on the way to Hôtel de Ville Les Halles: in front of Centre Pompidou Square du vert Galant: the end of Île de la Cité Châtelet: next to Les Halles Les Marais: next to Centre Pompidou Boulevard des Italiens: next to Opera Garnier:

1 day trips outside Paris
THE AMAZING SORROUNDINGS
What to visit near Paris: Paris is beautiful but there are some places around it that are as essential as it is. Here you'll find three options of 1 day trips near the city. All of them are good, however, for a more cultural experience I would recommend Versailles, for a relaxed day in a Park, Sceaux, and for a complete experience but a bit farther: Giverny.
Lou around the world, Paris | 13
Parc de Sceaux A huge parc with many trees and different gardens, an idilic place to have a picnic. You will find: a big castle from the 17th century, panoramic views and many fountains and ponds. I recommend spending there one day or at least one afternoon. It's specially beautiful when the cherry blossoms bloom. Entrance: free Where: Sceaux, 40' by train from Les Halles To get there: RER B stop Bourg-La-Reine Transport cost: 5,6€ round trip
Giverny Giverny is a small town located aroun 1h from Paris. In this place you will find Monet's garden and its house, the spot that inspired him to paint his famous paintings of water lilies. I recommend you to spend the whole day, because one afternoon is a bit short to visit everything. After the museum, you can go and explore the town, its shops, bars and parks, where you can also have a picnic. If you still have some time left, walk around Vernon, the village next to it where the train stop is. Entrance: 9€ (garden and house) Where: Giverny, 1h away from Paris To get there: SNCF, stop Vernon - Giverny. Once you get to the station you can walk 1h or take a 5€ bus from Vernon to Giverny. I recommend walking if you have the time Transport cost: 18€ round trip + 10€ of the bus (optional)
Versailles Versailles is the best option, it combines nature and culture and it's an exeptional place. You can spend the morning visiting the castle, then have a picnic at the garden and rent a small boat to explore the pond. If you have time left go visit the city, its center is full of life, shops and cafés. Entrance: 18€, free if you're european younger than 26. The gardens are free during weekdays Where: Versailles, 50' from the center of Paris To get there: RER B, stop Versailles Château Rive Gauche Transport cost: 5,6€ round trip

FREE ACTIVITIES
Galleries Most of the galleries in Paris have a free entrance for everyone. Enjoy art without spending a single euro. If museums are too expensive for you, galleries is the best alternative. Picnic If there is something that Parisians are good at, is having picnics. There is an uncountable amount of parks and gardens where people take some cheese and wine and spend the afternoon. The perfect plan for when you spent all your money on restaurants. Versailles Garden As I mentioned on the previous page, the garden of Versailles is free for everyone during weekdays. It's so big you can't see the end of it, so whether you want to spend a calm afternoon or go for a run, Versailles is a great place. Passages couvertes de Paris This is definitely a rainy day activity. Les passages are galleries located between buildings and on the inside you'll find shops, restaurants and cafés. These are some of them: passage des Panoramas, passage Brandy, passage Jouffroy, galerie Vivienne and galerie Colbert. Boulevard Vincent Auriol This street is an open air museum. The wall art is famous in the whole city, but the best place to see it is at the 13th arrondisement. There are many guides with the most popular monumental artworks but I invite you to get lost through the streets and find your own way. Sunset at Arc de Triomphe This is by far my favourite, but I've left it last because is not free for everyone. As you already know, public monumets are free for Europeans younger than 26, otherwise, going to the top of the Arc is 13€. However, I believe it's worth it, because is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

HIDDEN PLACES
HOW TO SAVE MONEY
Jardin Alpin
Fruits and Veggies
A secret garden inside Jardin des Plantes. The only way to get inside is from Jardin Botanique and by crossing a samll underground passage. Discover a fairy tale garden with more than 2000 plants from all over the world.
They're the most expensive product in supermarkets. However, every neighbourhood has at least one fresh market where you can find cheap and quality food. The cheapest adn biggest ones are Marché d'Aligre and Marché de Belleville.
La Grande Mosquée de Paris Free P' Star It may not look hidden because it's a huge building. However, you can get inside with a 3€ ticket (2€ for students) and travbel to another world. Its patio, flowers and fountains are the perfect oasis inside the Quartier Latin.
If you need some clothes you HAVE to go to Free P' Star. There are many shops in the city and you can find almost neww clothes for 1, 3, 5 or 10€. I don't recommend so much Kilo shops because they're more expensive.
La Coulée Verte Velib' I would say it's more colourful than green! This walk used to be an old train line that went from Place de la Bastille till Bois de Vincennes. Not many people know that it's 4.5Km long and that you can walk till the big park.
The most expensive thing in Paris after rent: transport. A monthly metro ticket costs around 70€, but Velib' costs 38€ for THE WHOLE YEAR. The city is covered by cycling lines, it's a save, cheap and beautiful way to move in the city.
Cité du Figuier Second hand books You may not find many photos about this place because it's actually forbidden to take them! It's a private closed street where people live but if you manage to get inside you will find a colourful and lovely street full of flowers and plants.
There are many second hand bookshops in Paris. But in the squareJoachim du Bellay you'll find them in different languages, anf the prices start with 25 cents!
Jardin Shakespeare
Le guide ultime
Without a doubt the best part inside Bois de Boulogne. It's a very calm place with loads of green fields, perfect for a picnic.
Follow @leguideultime on Instagram. Ths account shows where to eat good food for a good price. Some days restaurants offer food at incresible low prices. In this account you'll find out where adn when.
La Petite Ceinture TThis old trainline used to go all around Paris. Nature has recovered its place, however, there are many parts of it that are open to public. You can take long and quiet walks on this line. Some cafés and restaurants adapted to this space and they use it now as their terraces.
Free museums re you older than 26? Don't worry, you can still enjoy free museums. Most of them have free entrance for everyone on the first Sunday of every month. Make sure you book your ticket in advance. Unfortunately Musée du Louvre doesn't offer this option.

sincerely, a cheap but instatiable traveller
For the people who made it possible This is for you, for all of you. For my Erasmus friends, for random people that I met in the street, for my first and dear followers, for the people who helped me and gave me recommendations, for every single person that put its grain of sand and that now is part of this guide. It was not me who wrote it, but all of you. Thank you for your advice, for your support and your endless enthusiasm of exploring the world.
