VOTE Tuesday, November 8th STACEY WITHEE I love Otsego! I have been honored to serve our residents as a commissioner since 2017 and as mayor since April. If reelected, my goals include pushing for affordable housing to be built on the former Rock Tenn site, finding creative ways to bring more recreational opportunities to the riverfront and continuing to support our business community. Otsego needs a city commission that can work together to get things done in the best interests of the city and her residents. I cannot think of anyone better suited to work alongside than the people on this page.

LAURI KRUEGER No community fire department has a bigger supporter than the Otsego Fire Department has in Lauri Krueger. Lauri has a long family history of supporting the OFD and she has brought that historical knowledge to her position as commissioner since 2018. Over her first term Lauri has listened, learned, and questioned to round out her knowledge of all the city functions and revenue sources. She is extremely passionate about our city, but she never lets it get in the way of making soundly reasoned decisions.

CHUCK MOORE, JR. Chuck was one of the first people to attend an informational budget meeting. He listened to the whole presentation and asked serious, well thought out questions. But he did not stop there. He continued to come to meetings, listening to all questions and concerns and carrying his knowledge out into the community. When two seats unexpectedly opened on the commission, Chuck stepped up and applied. His letter of interest included the following “I would like an opportunity to serve our community…I want to be part of the solution.”

JASON SMITH “I have a deep passion to see this city continue to grow and thrive not only in commerce, but also in heart.” These words are from Jason’s letter of interest to the city, and I cannot think of a better way to show what a thoughtful commissioner he already is after only six months. He stood up and offered to serve during a deeply divisive time. Jason has served all over our community with the Otsego Rotary, Hometown Christmas, and Otsego Main Street.

WAYNE RAYBURN Wayne is a man who sees something that needs to be done and does it. When his wife, Kim, voluntold him his skills were needed at the first Gus Macker tournament, he showed up. Fast forward 7 years and he just shows up and does whatever is needed, no questions asked. When one sitting commissioner decided not to run again this year, Wayne quietly got his ballot petitions signed and joined the race. He had been attending commission meetings for months and knew he could bring a distinct perspective to the commission. He put in the time learning the city’s issues and volunteered to serve.

My name is Vincent Pagano, you may have seen my campaign signs or ad in this paper. I am running for the four-year term for City Commission.

Thank you for your attention and time. I just wanted to take a minute and have you hear from me what my agenda is and what my interests are. It has been indicated that we have a comfortable board and should stay with a slate.

Me, I think asking questions and having a healthy and open debate can happen without chaos happening. In this past year, my asking questions has provided a course of action that has given the citizens more options, that just following along would ever do. Most citizens agree with me on items that I have brought up and the ideas behind them. Minimal discussion and unanimous votes on everything just make me wonder about things.

I also am up front about being forthcoming with pertinent information for the citizens in matters, rather than controlling the narrative, to better the chances of limiting citizen input, through a lack of knowledge of understanding. Those that know me, and I have met, know that I have served the community well and with honor in the past and my desire is to serve the community again, to bring a different level of experience to mix with the current level of experience. I just think it is time for change, change that will make sure you are better heard, and you know of what is going on. I respectfully ask you to consider voting for me this coming Tuesday, Nov. 8th. Dear City of Otsego residents, let me introduce myself.

I am a 5th generation native to Otsego, so some may know me best as daughter of Nancy & Jerry Seibert. I am a 1988 graduate of OHS and studied music literature and performance at Central Michigan University.

For the last 8 years, I have been employed with Lyster Exteriors, a large exteriors company in Kalamazoo, where I am a customer service and marketing representative. I have been married almost 27 years to my husband Joel, an Otsego 1979 graduate, with whom I have 2 amazing children. Our son Hunter, was a 2014 OHS graduate, as well as one of OFD’s first cadet program members. He then went on to be an OFD firefighter. Currently he is working for Comstock Township, and is a Firefighter/ Lieutenant for Gobles Pine Grove Fire Dept. Hunter and his wife Alayna have one daughter, and another on the way. Our daughter, Grace, who was 2021 OHS graduate and previous OFD Cadet and Firefighter, now works for LIFE EMS as an EMT. She is also a Firefighter with the Bloomingdale Fire Dept.

I have been active in my community for many years as Otsego Fire Department Auxiliary President, Alamo Little League board of directors, Otsego Rocket Football Cheerleading coach, Otsego Creative Arts Festival and Gus Macker volunteer just to name a few. During my 1st term on the commission, I was head of the video/ marketing committee for our promotional Otsego video and am also assigned to the fire dept. committee. ADOPTABLE Pet of the Week! Lake came to the Allegan County Animal Shelter as an emaciated stray dog. He has filled out and his coat is now a handsome shiny golden brown! Lake is a friendly, silly, doggy that LOVES treats and will try his best to earn any yummy snack he sees or smells. Not only is Lake a playful, fun guy, he is also super lovey and affectionate. His sweet brown eyes steal your heart the moment you meet him. Lake would love to join an active, fun home with or without kids. It is recommended that any kids in his forever home are 8 years old and up. He would do best in a home where there are no cats. Lake gets along with other dogs, and he seems to prefer female doggy buddies the best. If your home already includes a dog, a meet and greet will be set up to make sure the dogs are a good match. Lake is estimated to be under 3 years old and weighs approximately 32 pounds.

All of creation will be made new and perfect once again. Paul is teaching us to put a high value on the coming of Christ. On that day Christ will gather us to Himself and we will truly be made perfect in unity. This awesome expression of God making everything new again will be a moment that we will cherish for eternity. For now, we wait with anticipation and accept this spectacular event by the means of faith. St. Paul writes that there is a lively view of Jesus’ second coming as a major part of God’s restoration. That day does not arrive quickly and therefore we need to be patient. St. Paul warns us not to let our spirits grow weak and fragile. Jesus promises it will happen, yet he did not know when, only His Father in heaven knows the time.

AGE 64 - DELTON, MI

Jody passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at her home in Delton. She was born July 2, 1957 in Plainwell, the daughter of Eugene “Bud” and Erma (Truax) Baker. Jody was a 1975 Otsego High School graduate and worked at Perrigo for many years. In her free time Jody enjoyed volunteering at the Orangeville Fire Department where she was known as the Fire Mom. She also liked collecting anything Winnie the Pooh and following the Kansas City Chiefs. Jody loved her animals, being outdoors and riding her dirt bikes. She had a heart of gold and loved her family more than anything. Jody married Stanley Patrick and spent 25 years together raising their daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Chastity (Jon) Morris of Shelbyville, sisters, Nancy Seibert and Linda Wason both of Otsego and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband, Stanley. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. A time for memories and fellowship will follow at the Orangeville Fire Department. Contributions in memory of Jody may be made to the Orangeville Fire Department. Can you remember all the neighbors you have known throughout your lifetime? I can remember as far back as Stevensville where I lived the first five years of my life. Mrs. Johnson was a kind lady who lived two houses down. She was always friendly and even invited me to play in her yard. I lived in Watervliet for the next l5 years and spent most of my childhood and high school years in a home my father built just outside the city limits. We had lots of room for “sand lot” baseball and other sports with our friends. Over the years of our marriage we have had neighbors who were just as kind to our children as our neighbors were during our childhoods. We still have nice neighbors! Jesus told the story about a man who was more than a nice neighbor. He was a Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). The story was the result of a conversation Jesus had with an expert in the law who asked, “Who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29). Short answer: My neighbor is the person who needs me most.
