Donald Elwin Aukerman, age 85, passed away on December 3, 2022 Don was born on October 7, 1937 in Cooper, MI, the son of Millard and Cecilia (Cerejewski) Aukerman Don started running the family farm at the age of 10 after the passing of his father and continued to farm for most of his life Even in the toughest of times, Don would pick up the pieces and work harder He was an avid deer hunter and sports fan He was an inductee of the Plainwell Athletics Hall of fame Don enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and playing cards with friends Faith was important to Don, he was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and knew he had perseverance with God’s help Most of all, he loved his family, Don loved being a grandpa and always attended his grandchildren’s sporting events Don is survived by his wife, Reva (Mills) Aukerman; children: Rob (Betty) Aukerman, Rod (Brenda) Aukerman; Michelle (Steve) Hook, Kyle (Julie) Aukerman, and "son" Tom Schofield; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister: Judy (Les) Witters; several nieces and nephews Don was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donelle Aukerman; six siblings; sister in law: Sandra Nyberg Don’s family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, 2022, 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home Don’s funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 10, 2022, 2:00 PM at Faith United Methodist Church, Delton, MI Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery

The parents of Jesus were common ordinar y people from an unheard of town named Nazareth Mar y was a poor peasant gir l Joseph was a car penter by trade and was not considered wealthy by any means They had some things in common such as the village they lived in and their ancestr y (Luke 2:1-5)

Their place in histor y defied a later comment by one of Jesus’ disciples who asked, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? (John 1:46) The miracle of our Lord’s bir th is beyond human explanation It is no wonder that Mar y questioned her central role in the Chr istmas stor y asking “How can this be since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34) Joseph, on the other hand, was confused by it all until an angel came to him and assured him that “what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spir it (Matthew 1:20-21)

The Roman emperor’s edict required them to t ravel down to Bethlehem, which fulfilled the prophecy that the holy child would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2) Their nearly 80-mile journey is well known and documented (Luke 2:1-7)

The image of this well-known couple is rather sketchy It is obvious that Mar y was joyful in her histor ic role (Luke 1:46-47) Joseph is descr ibed as a just man” (Matthew 1:19 K J V ), hardwor king, protective and a good provider

John the Baptist, who was in pr ison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Matthew 11:2-3

REFLECTION: I would like to clear up the perceived notion that John the Baptist is confused about Jesus being the Messiah It is exceedingly foolish to think that John is questioning himself about Jesus being the tr ue Messiah Nothing is far ther from the tr uth His whole life is based on him announcing this to the wor ld John 1:32 Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spir it descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him” John saw the Spir it of God descend, and heard the voice of God say, “This is my Son ” So what is going on here? John is ver y concer ned about his lazy disciples not willing to follow Jesus as he has instr ucted them to do So he sends them out to ask Jesus for themselves He wants them to see the miracles of God firsthand Jesus is healing the sick, the lame are walking, and the blind are seeing What more proof do they need? This Chr istmas I encourage you to ask yourself, do I believe Jesus really is the Son of God? Two-thousand years of Church histor y ought to influence your thoughts If you still have doubts, ask God to reveal himself to you this Advent season
