Does Treatment for Neuropathy Pain Have to Involve Prescription Drugs?

Pearl L. KONING
AGE 95 - KALAMAZOO, MI Pearl L Koning passed away on Friday, July 15 at the age of 95. She was born on June 7, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Herman and Lena Tammeling. She was married to Earl H Koning on February 19, 1949. He passed away in 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents, son; Mark J Koning, grandson; Aaron Wykstra, and her siblings; Sadie Van Tholen, Lena Lindemulder, Edith Dryden, Henrietta Hoff, Peter and Herman Tammeling. She is survived by her son; Thomas (Connie) Koning, and daughter; Arlene (Andy) Wykstra, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a great-greatgrandson. Pearl was an 8th grade graduate of Ebenezer Christian School in Chicago and graduated from McKinley High School in Chicago in 1945. Previous to her marriage, she was employed at Sears Roebuck Catalog Mail Order Company in Chicago. She was a stay at home mother to her three children. Pearl and Earl were foster parents to several children in the Kalamazoo County. She also cared for several neighborhood children. Her husband and she were charter members of the Westwood Christian Reformed Church and Faith Christian Reformed Church. Most recently she attended of Faith Chapel Ministries. She was a volunteer at North Christian and Kalamazoo Christian High School, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, Alamo 4-H club, tutor for the Kalamazoo Literary Council, a Sunday school teacher, and volunteer for the Bible League International. In 1973, Pearl and her husband formed a dairy distributing business, Koning Distributing Company where she performed the office duties. She was later employed at S & L Bolt Company, Kalamazoo Conveyor Company, and the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. She enjoyed music, bowling, hospitality, writing, and learning. Pearl and her husband spent many winters in Lakeland, Florida. There will be a private family burial at the Liberty Cemetery in Alamo Michigan. The memorial services will be at Faith Chapel Ministries, 7736 W. G Avenue. Kalamazoo, MI, on Saturday, July 23, at 1 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries, 448 North Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI, 49007.

Robert K. JACKSON AGE 79 - MONTEAGLE, TN
Robert was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 20, 1943 and passed peacefully at home in Monteagle, Tennessee on July 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Oval and Dorothy Jackson, his brothers Kenneth, Orville (Junior), Duane (Duke), James, and sister Denise Looman. He is survived by the love of his life Cheryl, wife of over 56 years. His children Jennifer and Stephen (Barbara Major), his grandchildren Lucia, Eli, and Garrit Jackson of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Riley and Harris O’Gwynn of Auburn, Alabama, brother Dennis Jackson of Elwood, Indiana. He loved family and held his nieces and nephews and extended family always in his thoughts. Robert graduated from Otsego High School in 1961 and held several Associates degrees from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Industrial Education from Western Michigan University, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University Owen School of Management. Robert went to work for Eaton Corporation in 1968 and retired in 2001. His thirty-three-year career took him and his family through 7 moves, two of which were international. His dedication to his work and family allowed us all to see the world and learn and grow with him, while making dear friends in Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, Bowdon, England, and Shanghai, China. Robert was dedicated to family, education, and community. When he wasn’t researching family history, he was serving the community in many ways. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, was an active member of Rotary International in Shelbyville, Humboldt, and Monteagle, Tennessee, served as the President of the Monteagle Tennessee club from 2004-2006 and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship award in 2011. He served on University Advisory Boards for Motlow State Community College and Middle Tennessee State University, always eager to share his knowledge and to support education. Burial will take place at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. AGE 74 - PLAINWELL, MI Audrey was born to Thelma (Morris) Thomas and Basil Thomas on August 26th, 1947 in Traverse City, Michigan. The family lived in southwest Michigan, settling in Portage where Audrey graduated from Portage Central High School in 1965. Audrey married E.J Hart on October 28th, 1966. She graduated from Wright Beauty Academy that same year and worked as a professional hairdresser before switching careers to medical and dental offices. Audrey went on to earn certifications in office administration and enjoyed a long career at Western Michigan University in the Office of Conferences and Institutes. Audrey and EJ lived in Chicago, Illinois, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Madison, Wisconsin before moving to Plainwell, Michigan in 1981 where they own and operate Hart’s Jewelry. Volunteerism was an important aspect of Audrey’s life. She volunteered with the Red Cross, Fort Custer, and was active in Parent Teacher Organizations at her daughters’ schools. Audrey and EJ were involved in local soccer for many years. In more recent years, Audrey served as a president of Sylvia’s Place and was on the fundraising committee for the O’Leary Foundation. Audrey was an avid quilter and member of the American Quilting Association. She enjoyed sharing her skill and passion for quilting and provided quilts for many local charitable organizations. She may perhaps be best remembered for her chocolate chip cookies, which were without comparison. Audrey passed away, Monday, February 21, 2022 in Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Thelma. She is survived by her husband EJ, siblings Russ Thomas and Patricia (Michael) ThomasFreese, daughters Erin (Chris) Bolda and Nikki (Matt) Hart-Brinkley, and grandsons Damien Hutton, Ethan Bolda, Jeremy Bolda, and Elliot Brinkley. Audrey will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. Friends may visit with Audrey’s family from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. AGE 94 - OTSEGO, MI Betty passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Ely Manor in Allegan. She was born July 5, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of George Jr. and Josephine (Dvorak) Jacobs. After graduating from high school, Betty moved to the family farm in Allegan. On December 30 1986 she married Robert Price Jr. who passed away in 1990. Betty loved cats and enjoyed collecting anything that had a cat on it. In her free time she enjoyed baling hay, going to garage sales and cruising to the Caribbean and Mexico with her friend Becky. Surviving are her nephew, Robert Jacobs of Bloomingdale and niece, Sharon Davis of Plainwell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Norman and Robert Jacobs. Friends may visit with Betty’s family starting at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at noon, with celebrant Mary Ann DeVries officiating. AGE 78 - PLAINWELL, MI
Dean went to be with Jesus on July 19, 2022. He was born in the spring of 1944 to Dean E. and Laura Hermann in the Upper Peninsula of MI as their second son. His siblings are Bill Ursula, Greg, Chris and Jim. He grew up in St. Ignace and Newberry. He joined the Navy the fall after high school and retired 30 years, 3 weeks and 3 days later. In civilian terms, he always said “I did everything from empty bed pans to run the place.” He married Vicki in the spring of 1965. They had 2 son, Tony and Matt (Karen). Dean and Vicki have 4 grandchildren, Zach, Ollie, Caleb and Brielle. He became a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in the spring of 1993 in Chicago and served in 5 different dioceses. His life was one of helping others including military personnel, health care workers, patients, and those who came to him for help. He believed in tending to people’s immediate needs, but also helping them to address the cause of their problems. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Dean’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, until the time of the mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M., with Bishop Paul Bradley officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 P.M, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Dean may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan or St. Margaret Catholic Church. AGE 69 - PLAINWELL, MI Sherry passed away surrounded by family on June 12, 2022. Sherry was born in Battle Creek, MI on September 27, 1952. Daughter of Glove and Arvietta Ray. On Augusta 18, 1983 she married Lawrence Klok Jr. and they shared 38 years together, raising their family. Sherry was a avid quilter and gardener. Sherry loved cooking, canning and taking care of family and friends. Sherry has six siblings, Gary Haywood, Edward (Diane) Haywood, Ralph (Trudy) Ray, Brenda (Brian) Owens, Judy (Ken) Kilpatrick and Mike (Nancy) Ray. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lily Cappie, parents and brothers Gary Haywood and Ralph Ray. Sherry is survived by her husband Larry, children Sherry (Brian) Moore, Maze (Mari) Stephen, Maggie (Mike) Curtis, Lawrence Klok III, Gordon (Diane) Henderson, Angie Henderson and William Sr. (Samantha) Henderson, 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren as wall as numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. CITY OF PLAINWELL, JULY 20, 2022 -On July 19th at approximately 1958 hours Plainwell Public Safety was sent to Gilkey Elementary School for a report of a fire. Once on scene, a fire was found in one of the rooms within the school. Firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the fire. The fire and smoke damage was confined to one small area of the school. A preliminary investigation appears to show that the fire was intentionally set and officers will continue to follow up leads on the investigation. Anyone having information regarding the fire is asked to contact Plainwell Department of Public Safety at 269-685-9858 or provide information anonymously through Allegan County Silent Observer at 1-855-SILENT-0 or through the Allegan County Silent Observer webpage. A reward is being offered for information in this case. Plainwell Public Safety was assisted on the fire scene by Gun Plain Township Fire Department and Plainwell EMS

By definition, lighthouses warn mariners of dangerous shallows and perilous rocky coasts, and they help guide vessels safely into and out of harbors. Now you know why I call Proverbs 3:5, 6 “The Guiding Light Verse.” In the realm of faith God has promised to guide us safely through the storms of life. There have been many times in my own life when I have turned to this verse for direction and have encouraged others to do the same. There are at least four components (words) which help us to apply this verse to our everyday lives. KNOWLEDGE God is all-knowing (omniscient). Therefore, God knows our situations better than we do. God knows when we sit down and when we stand up. God knows our words before we say them and our actions before we do them (Psalm 139:1-6). God’s ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah: 8-9). God knows all things (John 16:30). Thus, we need to make a decision. DECIDE Will we decide to rely upon God’s knowledge? Or will we “lean unto our own understanding?” Since God is smarter than we are, our best option is to place our trust in God. TRUST It is one thing to trust God when all is going well in our lives. What about those times when things do not go well?

Job, in the Old Testament, is the classic example of trusting God in the midst of terrible human suffering. God allowed Job’s faith to be tested, but Job decided to trust God saying, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15).
God is our Lighthouse, our guide for safe travels over rough waters. When we do not know which way to turn, it is best to turn to God. We may not know everything, but God does. We may not know the future, but we know Who holds the future. If we know enough to trust, we will experience God’s guidance in the seas of life.
