Health & Medical 75-Hour Home Care Aide Certification

CPR Skills Check off

Obtain your HCA in 75 hours of on-ground training. Training will provide DSHS certifications in dementia care, mental health care, navigating challenging behaviors, and traumatic brain injury. This training is the minimum requirement for employment with home care agencies, assisted living facilities, adult family home caregivers and owners, individual state contracted personal care workers, group homes, and any other direct care workers providing home or community-based services to the elderly or people with functional or developmental disabilities.

This class is the skills check off for the American Heart Association Heartcode. In order to enroll, participants must have completed the CE Online component and provide printed certificate of completion. Class includes guided instruction in skills performance and time to practice for skills check off for: one and two person adult and infant CPR, adult CPR with AED and bag mask, and adult and infant choking. Upon certificate submission to the instructor and successful skills check offs, the student will receive an American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR card that will be valid for a two year time period. This card level is acceptable as the CPR requirement for Nursing and Allied Health programs as well as for most educational and workplace needs.

This one day class provides an overview of the AFH program and expectations of the AFH licensee in providing care and services to the residents in a licensed home setting as well as a brief overview of the process prospective providers will follow in obtaining an AFH license. This class is one of the requirements (see Washington Administrative Code [WAC] 388-76-10060) applicants need to meet prior to turning in the application for licensing. Parent/Child Aquatics

This karate class is an affiliate of Jundokan International and offers traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate instruction. The instruction includes areas typical of karate practice: basics, kata (a set pattern of offensive and defensive moves), and randori (kumite or sparring practice). The class is open to beginners or those with experience regardless of the style of karate studied. The instructor, Mary Roe, holds the rank of 7th degree black belt which she received from Sensei Teruo Chinen. She has competed nationally and internationally and provided instruction at numerous international clinics, most recently in Lima, Peru (2017) and the Ukraine (2017 and 2015). Students are expected to buy or bring a karate uniform.

For infants/preschool, ages 6 months to 3-years, and a parent. This four-hour class is designed to help young children become comfortable in and around water so they are ready to learn to swim. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmer or even to survive in the water on their own. Parent and Child Aquatics gives parents information and techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner.

Michele Heuer

Michele Heuer has been teaching swimming for over 50 years, with half of her experiences being here at the Community Colleges of Spokane! Prior to teaching at CCS, Heuer swam competitively in the 1960s-80s. She also coached swim teams, competed in triathlons, and is a Certified Pool Operator. Heuer currently teaches American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor Training both for credit and noncredit programs. She also teaches various swim classes for CWCE including Aquatic Fitness, Parent/Child swim, Preschool swim, and Learn to swim classes at levels 1 through 6.

When asked about her teaching experiences, Heuer says “I actually love all of the classes I teach because it involves all ages from 6 months to 90 year olds, and has a vast difference in swimming, fitness, and for some job skills.” Michele Heuer is the Spokane Community Colleges Aquatics Director, Wellness Coordinator, and also teaches noncredit aquatics classes for the Center for Workforce & Continuing Education (CWCE). Multiaxis The Mastercam University Multiaxis Curve / Drill / Circle Mill course provides students with a strong foundation in 5-axis CNC programming. The class starts out with an extensive overview of axis combinations, rotary points, and zero positions as they relate to Mastercam. It then builds on how to control tool axis vectors using different geometric entities.
